I've followed Miriam for years and Yan since her trip from Europe to China. I've always wondered what she had studied in Europe. I think she studied in Switzerland, as she had Swiss friends when she did that lovely video about cheese making in the Swiss mountains, a special video for me because I spent a month in Vallais, Switzerland yars ago. She was speaking some German with them.
I was curious about what she studied in Switzerland, good that Miriam asked:
    1- Bachelor in landscaping architecture.
    2- Master in Urban planning.,
    3- PhD in tourism geography.
So, besides being this adorable, adventurous woman, she has a serious academic background as well.
Wow, if I were some 170 years younger, hahaha, I would go to China and offer to work for her as a video editor, for FREE, as I don't need a salary.
I've been following everything about China for some 5 years and I'm "aspiring" to go spend my retirement as n engineer in China, specifically in YUNNAN and start a small FREE private Math school for kids in one of those small idylic village there.
I have to figure out how I could do that though but I definetely would love to spend the rest of my life in some Yunnan village around those little bubbly Math-loving Chinese kids.

That sounds just about what I hv in mind, but would hv to teach other subjects rather than maths, doubt that my maths degree from the UK is gd enough to teach Chinese children or I could be your assistant 😅

Two tips about hiking in China:
    1. Most natural spaces are publicly owned either by the state, or by the village collective. So there is no "private property/no trespassing" kinda thing in China. And Chinese people are generally not that territorial so as long as you are not crazy you can go where ever you like.
    2. Many trails in the mountainous area were built to facilitate the communications between the villages and they are generally called "Gu Dao/古道“ which literally means "ancient roads". They are usually very solidly built with stones and by following these "Gu Dao" you can go from one village to another. Most villages should have the modern paved road connected to the towns and cities so you can always get the ride if you decided to wrap up the hiking for the day.

@zchu3179 This is what I had imagined but wasn't sure about it. Thank you for the info.
Natural areas belonging to the state, province, or villages are 100 times better a system than the Western capitalist private ownership.
In Brazil, almost most natural areas are private property, and A LOT of land is not used for anything, owners keep it just for investment/speculation.
There are public natural parks but the total area is too small, compared to the huge size of the country.

    • @MiriamFollin
      @MiriamFollin  6 месяцев назад +3

That sounds quite annoying in Brazil! I think in the US it's also quite tricky with land? I'm lucky to have access to nature in Sweden, where you basically have the right to be in any natural area. So we have plenty of forest and hiking trails to move about and forage in!

There are so many influencers online, but Miriam and Little Chinese are two of my favorites. They are both well educated, positive, thoughtful, not really political and they bring me to places NEW to me! For Miriam, I like the way your chat with others. There are so many people you can chat with, and there are so many topics. You can sit down and draw an annual plan, or maybe two year plan if you like. For Little Chinese, it's completely ok to date and marry a Whiteman. It's ok for every healthy person despite that it's really not our business.

You both noted that language is a barrier and that is true if you speak no Chinese (usually Mandarin) at all. But if you can speak a little, enough to cover common issues, you will be very warmly welcomed even if their dialect/accent prevents you understanding them! A young person of 50 or less should be able to learn enough to make travelling rewarding in a year. It took me 5 years, but I was 60 when I had my first lesson, and now I have travelled a lot of the east alone!

And this is the second video I watched from your channel. I subscribed to Yan's channel when her video views averaging under 5000 views, but I'm sure her channel will grow very fast because her content is really captivating. I'm sure your channel will grow fast too if you keep making the kind of video like the one with walnut and chili. Hello Girls, From France, I am following both of your channels, I discovered First Myriam's one, some years ago before second child, when you where pregnant I think; I wondered if once you would make a vidéo together, that's done, thank you so much.
