A few years ago I arrived in Changsha very late at night, and got lost trying to find my hotel. (Changsha has been split apart by multi-lane roads with no crossing points - it's hard for a pedestrian to find their way). So I went inside a different hotel and said I was lost, but if they had a room, I would stay there and ignore my original booking. The receptionist made a couple of phone calls, and then some guy came from out the back and asked me to follow him. He got on a motor-bike, and I had to sit behind him, with my suitcase and rucksack! It is lucky there was no traffic at 2am - the trip was slightly terrifying, but fun as well. He took me to my hotel, and I was so happy! I said; 你是一个非常好的人! 非常感谢! Good luck with your motor-bike skills!
Congratulations Yan, well done! I remember when I passed my driving licence I was so relieved and it gave me so much freedom! Can't wait to see you on your own motorbike at some point! 🙂❤
Yan, I love motorcycling "motorbikes" BUT I MUST to tell you, for YOUR safety, the REAL danger when riding "motorbikes" is not so much YOU but other car drivers NOT SEEING you! So ride as if you are invisible and expect the other drivers WILL make mistakes so you can avoid an accident. I have been riding "motorbikes" over 50 years. I want to watch your travels for a long time too! BE SAFE !
Good advice. I worry for her first 1000hrs riding. I taught people to ride motorbikes, cars and aircraft. All of them were taght basic technical details of their machines. An electric powered motorbike or car far easier. No power curves and transmission clutches to understand.
For the hillstart. You use the back brake with your foot, then slowly release the clutch while giving it a little gas simultaneously. You'll feel the bike starting to pull, then release the rear brake and release the clutch more gradually at the same time. For neutral, some bikes make it harder to find than others. Its a slight notch in-between 1st and second. Sometimes the bike requires you to move it back and forth while trying to find neutral or it wont go into it lol. Anytime before youre going to come to a full stop, make sure to shift down to 1st so then neutral is easier to find. Nicer bikes have a gear indicator on the screen that makes it much easier. You just need to get used to the clutch and coordination, youll get there!
Congratulation Yan. Experience is gained over the passage of time. 6 months from now, you will look back and feel proud of your achievement. We expect more videos of unseen China adventure.🥰
I have a motorbike license in a western country and watching you ride that bike without holding the clutch at slow speeds was a shocker. Especially when you turn near that steep drop near the ramp lol. But you are in 1 piece so well done 😀
Congratulations Yan on getting your motorised tricycle license! It is much safer riding on a motorised tricycle compared to a motor cycle, I’m sure you’ll get better as you keep practicing going forward 😊 now you can put your luggage in the space behind wherever you go! 😊👍
Congratulations Yan. Yes, its frustrating with crappy bikes to learned and tested on. Still, its a learning curve ...please practice more with the 2 wheelers before you hit the road. Your health and safety is utmost to us all. Good luck.
Congrats Yan! I am very excited for you and the new adventures you are gonna have with your bike:) thanks to you I am in Honghe County right now, what an amazing place. I am so thankful for your videos, they shine a spotlight on rural places I would probably never have visited or known about as a foreigner. Also loved your videos about my home country Switzerland, helped me to appreciate it more, seeing it through your eyes:)
Good on you Girl, do not worry, use the tricycle you can get one with a cabin, and full cover for the Tray, it would make a little travel van for you,Its much safer to drive, give it some thought, Cheers & Best Wishes to you, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli. Biloela Qld Australia.👍🐕🐎🦄🦌🐂🐃🐄🐖🐗🐏🐑🐐🐨🐨🐨🐨🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦃🐔🐓🦆🦢🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
congratulations! the sooner you get out there driving, the better - that is when you really learn. It took me two different instructors, three tests and a lot of money before I got my licence so I think you've done well so far. Good luck and thank you for sharing
Hi! Glad to know that you have got the motor tricycle licence. Congratulations Ms Yan. Practice makes perfect. Trust that in the near future, you will be more independent in travelling to and in places which are difficult to get public transport. All the best and always have safety in mind when driving a motorcycle.😊
Excellent, Yan! Congratulations on getting your permit! Getting that freedom of mobility is a liberating feeling. One thing, be very, very careful on the road as often cars don't pay much attention to motorbikes.
Didn't expect this session to be so interesting and engaging. Absolutely enjoyed watching what you had to go through to get your motorcycle driving licence. Stay safe!
WOW! This is one of my favorite episodes!! It is so funny and we get to see a part of Chinese society that is REALLY unseen from abroad. Congratulations on your new license! This episode may not get as many views as others, but it is so interesting. Thank you for telling us your driving training story.
Congratulations! Now all you need is to practise more and then hit the road 🙂 I really can relate. Driving exams can be very hard. When I once rented a small truck I had to watch videos about accidents for half an hour as well and it makes you drive very cautious indeed. I'm looking forward to your videos on a motorbike!
Oh, I am so happy for you!!!!! That takes a lot of courage and desire to keep going, good for you!!!! It is nice to have independence to drive! I have never had a motor cycle license, only a car, but not as many people in USA use motorbikes like in China. I failed my first driving test because I didn't know where the emergency brake was, I was borrowing a friends car for the test. They used to have drivers education classes in high school, and there is where I got trained, they don't do that any longer, which is a shame, because we got a lot of practice in. I look forward to your videos!
Wow, what an experience!! Huge congratulations and welcome to FREEDOM!! I am sure you will ride a motorbike very soon. What a system you have to negotiate through!! In the UK, you have to do a theory exam first. Which is quite a recent thing. When I had a motorbike, I was allowed to ride one for 2yrs before having to take an onroad test. I decided to learn to drive a car. I really enjoyed being able to go anywhere without using public transport. I also had breakdown cover. I had to use that couple of times when I had a flat tyre. Am SO happy for you! Well done Yan, and, I hope you will eventually learn to drive a car as well, some time in your future!! Happy and safe travels!!
Congratulations are in place, Yan! I have to say that you were so cute when you were talking after the failure of the first exam. It was easy to relate. 😊 Please make sure that you have enough experience driving a bike, before going on a trip. We want you to be safe!
Congratulations Yan! I think most of us can relate to the nervousness. I remember having trained in one car, but took the driving test in a different car. The instructor asks you to identify a few random switches. They asked me to point out the defroster. I was looking for a button with wavy lines like it was in the car I practiced in. But in the car I was testing in, it was a button with the letters "def" for defrost. I didn't find it in time and the examiner pointed it out. It made me anxious to miss one right out of the gate. But I did well through most of the rest of it, including nailing parallel parking, and passed. This was way back in the 80s, but I still remember it.
Congratulations Yan. Good on you! I have driven motorbikes in the past when a drivers license was not yet needed. It's really not that difficult, but then I live in the Netherlands where bikes and motorbikes are more common and the traffic is more adjusted to them. With a couple of drives you'll get accustomed to it and you'll be driving like mad.
Congratulations that looked tough! I failed my first test also for a car license, I passed on my second try two months later. That was 51 years ago now but I still remember how nervous I was. I don't have a motorbike license and won't bother now, well done you!
Look out, @ItchyBoots... Yan is comin' for ya! Congratulations on your achievement. :) I've been riding for 30 years and I can tell you that in the beginning, it's hard for everyone. Then it will all of a sudden get a lot easier. Practice, practice, practice.
😅🙏🤍 thanks Yan, you put a big smile on my face. You did great and will have alot of fun. But be careful and take it slow please, i know you will. Preciate ya🤝
I have to say Yan that you are absolutely adorable in your frustration over the exam, switching back and forth between English and Chinese.😉 I admire your persistence very much. “Way more intense than my PhD defense.” 😆 And congratulations 🎉 , you are now an even more free woman.
Excellent experience for you because when you're out there on the road with other drivers and other unforseen circumstances, you'll be prepared. 😍🌞💪 Safe driving. 🙏😃
Congratulations Yan. You did well under the circumstances. Still, its the funniest video in your entire series. Someday you’ll look back on this experience and you too will have a good laugh👍🏼😄
Funny to see this, after I saw you speeding between cities with no effort. I never learned to drive a motor bike, but I am just happy with my electric bike. For longer distances I take it with me on a train (which is a standard option here in the Netherlands), and I was able to visit most interesting cities in my country, and the country side between them. I usually combine business trips with sight seeing om my bike, sometimes staying over for the night to visit special places. I never felt a divide between work and enjoying the world and its beauty, and I find it weird that many people do long commutes without enjoying all the amazing places they pass.
Congrats Yan. And yes its a hard earn license and the way you relate your story is comically cute and funny especially when the bike engine stalled and you were so frustrated.😂😂 Really enjoy watching it❤
Congrats on your driving license. Hope with this you will learn how to ride a bike and show us all the untapped places in China. Love your travel videos.
Congratulations to you for getting your motorbike license. I can offer one possible explanation as to why the lesson and exam are done on a motor-tricycle. During the learning stage, students can fall out of a 2-wheeler motorbike more easily. Therefore a motor Tricycle allows the student to learn to balance while learning how to change gear, start and stop without the falling risk. Since the student learned on the motor tricycle, then may not be able to expect the same student to pass an exam with a 2-wheeler. Therefore there is a stage missing, which is converting the riding technique from a 3-wheeler to a 2-wheeler. Maybe the government expects the student to learn that on their own.
I admire your enthusiasm Yan, and wish you great fun! (But always keep in mind over the years that almost every motorcycle driver likely experiences some kind of an accident - the greater the speed, obviously the more serious the outcome. Yet, even at slower speeds on curves, wet leaves, sand and certainly ice on the pavement can quite easily cause a loss of control.)
Congratulations Yan & ride carefully always bear in mind you're only on 2 wheels with only 5 inches on the ground at all times in your ride. Take care!!
Very funny video, you are excellent in telling stories. I liked very much when you compared your stress level with when you wanted to get your PhD, I still cannot stop laughing 😁🤣😁 I got my car driver's license in Shanghai, all I needed to do was to translate my driver's license and take a quite simple theory exam. The process was super efficient and it was also kind of funny. There was a huge hall, you go inside with documents in your hand and they guide you from room to room, like a production line and finally you go to the exam room and if you pass you get almost immediately your license. Almost no waiting time, the whole process took me an hour or so and by the way they spoke good enough English. Congratulations, looking forward to seeing more videos in your channel, riding a motorcycle!
Congratz Wang Yan 👏👏👏🎉🎉 I have to admit driving Tricycle is a bit complicated, you have to measure the big body behind you while you driving. Not just gas, clutch and gears. But nowadays there's a lot of automatic motorcycle option and more easier to adapt.
A few years ago I arrived in Changsha very late at night, and got lost trying to find my hotel. (Changsha has been split apart by multi-lane roads with no crossing points - it's hard for a pedestrian to find their way). Congratulations Yan, please be very careful on the roads as you are very precious to us all.

Congratulations on getting your license.. My driving tip is, Remember to ALWAYS apply yr rear brake first then yr front brake.
