Final Fantasy VII's characters are some of my favorites in all of fiction. They all contribute to the story and grow in their own way. By the end, like you said, they feel like a family.
Take on 9 is spot on how I have always felt. It’s tempting to put 9 number 1 with how good their top 4 cast members are but there is a flunker in the game.
Cereal Guy, I got kicked out of the chat because I was viewing the video in playlist form, but yeah, Chrono Trigger is amazing. Tons of JRPG legends worked on that game. Kitase, Tokita, Uematsu, Mitsuda, Normua, Takahashi, Kato, Sakaguchi, Horii, Toriyama...it's wild how many greats worked on that game. Completely agree. Also ff7 cast is even better in Remake. Like the friendship between Aerith and Tifa is shown way better. Yuffie and Barret is also much more likable and developed. The personality change of Red is so good voice acted. etc.
My favorite partys would probably be FFX FFVII and FFXV say what you will about FFXV being unfinished and whatever other flaws it had but the party dynamic was second to none they were fluid you could feel a genuine and much more realistic bond throughout most of the experience and they were good characters each with its own deep and original side to him from the first to the last from Noctis to Ignis to Prompto to Gladio they were so good that i cried at their goodbye scene and a cast that can get you to care that much isn't a bad cast at all i feel like IX also deserves a special mention due to Vivi but one character doesn't make the cast of an entire game for me and the other members of the IX cast don't reach the heights of the casts of VII wich was so good that an entire generation of gamers still feel like VII is their favorite game of all times and the cast was a big part of that no death in FF brought as much heartbreak as Aerith XV the aforementioned reasons and most certainly doesn't top the cast of X with many great characters like Auron Yuna and even Tidus (he might not look it at first but his character development is actually amazingly portrayed throughout the journey in a well explained and gradual way plus the multiple payoffs he had were all good the last one is one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire franchise precisely because we got to care about Tidus too) as for XIV they're not bad but i don't feel they reach these heights without that villain who is definitely one of the best ones in the franchise and me being a damm Ystola simp from the moment she said "greetings" is a similar situation to Vivi she can't carry the entire cast of the game for me the others aren't bad but that just means that i feel like the ones i put above are just that good edit: i just saw where you placed FFIV a man of culture i also love the cast of IV my favorite out of the older FF by far
XV's cast is great. The casts of the FF games are great and it's an embarrassment of riches when it comes to ranking them because the competition is so fierce. If somebody were to rank XV's cast high I would find it totally reasonable. Also, from one man of culture to another, thank you for your words regarding IV.

@@Force-Multiplier One nice thing about these videos is that because each game excels in different ways I'm better able to spread praise across the games. So while FFI does poorly in a lot of categories, it got super high in the music ranking. But in terms of overall favorites, story and character is super important to me, so it's pretty easy to guess my rankings.
1) XIV 2) VII It is the only Category that another Instalment is even close to XIV, but XIV still edges VII out. VII has SUCH a good cast! XIV though is unreachable. Also, Galuf is a Top 5 FF Character of all time for many reasons, Laguna is the #1 Comic Relief Character, the Compilation of VII did not ruin Cloud's reputation (it was people's that are now middle aged US-centric 00s mentality of "fans" that couldn't get his development and made it a meme), and the twist in VIII is amazing and a Masterpiece. It didn't come randomly out of nowhere, but was a perfectly orchestrated AND executed plan. It's basically one of the things that makes VIII the Masterpiece it is.
Some scorching hot takes in there. I do think Cloud's compilation characterization has more depth than most give it credit for, and I need to play more of XIV. That said, I respectfully disagree about VIII's twist and would not rank Galuf nearly as high.

To me, with VIII especially, the twist is a perfectly orchestrated plan, as it is proven by the ending. It's one of the reasons that I live VIII and it was my favourite for 16-17 years before XIV surpassed it. Also, my takes are always hot lol. Especially when I post stealthily, METAL GEAR like, in the office! :)

I think the thing with VII is that the original script is a little bit subtle, but everything you need to know about the characters is in the original game, it's just that Rebirth makes it more blatant instead of reading between the lines. A good example is Jessie. I knew, in the original game, that she obviously had a crush on Cloud and was super thirsty for him, wheras a lot of players didn't even realize Jessie was a girl. To me it was blatantly obvious from her dialogue and the way she interacted with Cloud in the original, but a lot of players just flat-out didn't pick up on this. So, with VII, folks who picked up on those character nuances in the original game loved it, and those who didn't pick up on those things thought, "This is fine". But I do believe all of it is within the original text. I don't know if you have time or interest, but if you re-play VII after Remake (or at least the Midgar portions), and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much of the characterization in Remake is just a faithful version of the original with some of the details painted in just a hair more. I've beaten all of the games on the list you sent, minus A King's Tale and World of FF, though I did play a few hours of World of FF. I love that XV's cast ranks as your number one, especially knowing your age because that means you are ready for a peak broad trip adventure.

Regardless, I still think Remake takes more time and energy and breathing room for it's characters, though much more blatantly. This is also something that 14 changed. The Scions become your party members from Shadowbringers forward. They made something called the Trust system where you basically change regular players for the actual characters. As you said these party members become pretty much the strongest cast this side of VII, X and IX.

Hi Lumina. I made 16 videos celebrating the release of Final Fantasy XVI. The videos, in total, ended up being over 10 hours in length and took about 6 months to make. I decided to focus just on the mainline games and Tactics for the sake of these videos, as including every spin-off would balloon the videos to a point where it would not be feasible to create them. However, I do talk about Type-0 in my video ranking the Expanded Universe of each game, so I do recommend checking that out for some Type-0 love.
That's cool. I think some characters in VI and IV are definitely underrated, but I still think the cast in VII is stronger. I love IV's Cid, but I think VII's has way more depth, for example, and I did mention in the video that I don't think characters like Umaro, Gogo or Strago have much depth compared to say, Tifa, Barret or Vincent. But hey, different things vibe with different people! :)

I looked at which ones came in first place, which ones came in last place, which ones came in 2nd place, and which ones came out in the middle and counted up the tally for each. So, VII ended up winning 8 rankings, but FFI came in last place in 5 rankings. @@gregtroyan Entirely agreed. I would argue that its faults are mostly it's grindy episodic nature gameplay wise, and that it didn't have new versions of IV's OST, and only 2 new Tracks. I would not say no to the World Map to have changed a little bit maybe due to some Events that would have happened in-between IV and TAY, but it's not so important, as it is a period of Peace. Story wise, Character wise, Systems wise, I think it is perfect, even if it redoes some story themes that already happened in IV. I would even say that IV's gameplay seems poor now without double/triple techs and the moon system. I wish they had back ported it in the PR and PSP versions. I LOVE IT. I wish we had gotten a Lore Sequel, but even Square Enix has thrown it away, even THEATRYTHM didn't have even one of the two new Music Tracks it had, and THEATRYTHM had music from everything, even Mystic Quest.

" A lot of video game discourse is extremely casual and chill without bothering to look into whatever narrative depth might be contained within the medium. I look at Final Fantasy games largely the same way I look at novels and treat them with the same level of intellectual respect and scrutiny. Beyond that, I've also experienced some hardship in my life that has forced examination of early trauma, and though I never really had issues with the identity crisis stuff, I do enough self-examination and have enough general human empathy to be able to recognize and comment on it. I've done the internal work, looked at the demons, and have come out the other side able to talk about it comfortably. I'm sorry for the hardships you went through that led to you further relating to Wakka and Clive, but hopefully seeing them work past their trauma and pain has been able to help you the same way great stories and characters have helped inspire me to move forward past the pain. At this point in my life I'm extremely lucky to have good friends who care for me, a loving wife, a great stepson and the best cat in the world, but I know not everyone is as fortunate to be surrounded by love. There were times when I was alone, living on the streets, so I know the pendulum and know just how cold the world can be. I can only hope that your hard times are past you, or if you are still going through them, that the light at the end of the tunnel is near. Wishing you health and happiness, mate. Cheers!

No matter how you rank it Final Fantasy IX be whether it's by storyline character design character personalities biomes you name it Final Fantasy 9 has to be the worst Final Fantasy that has ever been made and that's comparing it to the very first Final Fantasy and the manager games that they brought over to the us that they changed the name to Final Fantasy on. @@gysahlfields7506 TAY is great. Extremely underrated. I can understand not loving it but the fact so many call it "trash" is wild to me.
@@gregtroyan Entirely agreed. I would argue that its faults are mostly it's grindy episodic nature gameplay wise, and that it didn't have new versions of IV's OST, and only 2 new Tracks.
I would not say no to the World Map to have changed a little bit maybe due to some Events that would have happened in-between IV and TAY, but it's not so important, as it is a period of Peace.
Story wise, Character wise, Systems wise, I think it is perfect, even if it redoes some story themes that already happened in IV.
I would even say that IV's gameplay seems poor now without double/triple techs and the moon system. I wish they had back ported it in the PR and PSP versions.

I wish we had gotten a Lore Sequel, but even Square Enix has thrown it away, even THEATRYTHM didn't have even one of the two new Music Tracks it had, and THEATRYTHM had music from everything, even Mystic Quest.

your insight about overcoming early trauma/identity crises was far more mature than what I was signing up for. Also I admit I played X when It came out with no profound hardship... after losing my dream job I built for myself, awesome brother and my awesome dad I really really really resonate with Wakka and Clive, just being so fucked over and left with nothing but pain and confusion. Also I haven't played 8 yet but anyone giving Squall shit for being 'emo' clearly hasn't lived without love before as a day-to-day. easy for them to say! I gather he gets warmer after the basketball court scene lol
Squall does eventually get warmer, but the basketball court scene isn't quite where his character pivot is, hahaha.

A lot of video game discourse is extremely casual and chill without bothering to look into whatever narrative depth might be contained within the medium. I look at Final Fantasy games largely the same way I look at novels and treat them with the same level of intellectual respect and scrutiny. Beyond that, I've also experienced some hardship in my life that has forced examination of early trauma, and though I never really had issues with the identity crisis stuff, I do enough self-examination and have enough general human empathy to be able to recognize and comment on it. I've done the internal work, looked at the demons, and have come out the other side able to talk about it comfortably.
I'm sorry for the hardships you went through that led to you further relating to Wakka and Clive, but hopefully seeing them work past their trauma and pain has been able to help you the same way great stories and characters have helped inspire me to move forward past the pain. At this point in my life I'm extremely lucky to have good friends who care for me, a loving wife, a great stepson and the best cat in the world, but I know not everyone is as fortunate to be surrounded by love. There were times when I was alone, living on the streets, so I know the pendulum and know just how cold the world can be. I can only hope that your hard times are past you, or if you are still going through them, that the light at the end of the tunnel is near. Wishing you health and happiness, mate. Cheers!

@@jonasfrohwitter8553 Boy bands can write their own songs. The Beatles (my favorite band of all time) were marketed as a boy band. Doesn't mean they aren't immensely talented, creative, or great players. They're the greatest rock n roll band of all time, and they also were a boy band.
And yes, I would argue other similar acts of the day could count as boy bands. It's not an insult.
The Jonas Brothers and The Click Five play their own instruments and write songs. BTS also writes a good chunk of their material. Doesn't mean they aren't boy bands, and being a boy band doesn't mean the band sucks.
No matter how you rank it Final Fantasy IX be whether it's by storyline character design character personalities biomes you name it Final Fantasy 9 has to be the worst Final Fantasy that has ever been made and that's comparing it to the very first Final Fantasy and the manager games that they brought over to the us that they changed the name to Final Fantasy on.
Everybody's personal opinion should be the Final Fantasy IX is by far the worst RPG probably in existence not just for a Final Fantasy

@@gregtroyan my opinion has nothing to do with April fools it has to do with every single Final Fantasy game that I have played since the 1980s when I was born. I have played every single Final Fantasy and I have pretty much enjoyed every single Final Fantasy there are some that I have liked more than others of course and there are some that I found that I didn't like as much as others but the only Final Fantasy that I can say that I have hated across the board in every way shape or form is Final Fantasy IX there is no April Fool's joke about it I dislike that game so much with a passion if I had the money I would buy every single copy of it so that nobody could get a hold of one unless it was in emulator form and burn them all in a big bonfire party
