    XIV's protagonist in not a Silent Dude. We speak all the time. Base XI is also way worse than ARR. Again, BASE XI.

      @gregtroyan 3 часа назад

      I liked base XI more than ARR, but I would agree that ARR is probably better as a video game experience. I think arguing that the main character of XIV is a silent protag is fair. Serge got some dialog choices in Chrono Cross but he's still considered a silent protag, and whenever the main character in XIV "speaks" they are silent. So I think calling them a silent protag is certainly fair.

    • @gysahlfields7506

      @@gregtroyan If you mean Silent by not having a VA, I agree. If you mean Silent by him being a mute character like Chrono, the FFI WoL, or a Dragon Quest protagonist, then nope, our XIV Character speaks all the time. He probably speaks more out of all XIV Characters. I am not even talking about the player Dialogue Options. Also, again, are you sure you are talking about Base XI? Not Base + Rise of the Zilart, but actual Base XI.

      @@gysahlfields7506 Warrior of Light is definitely a silent protag in ARR at least. I haven't played the other expansions, but in ARR and all the seasonal event, WoL is a silent protag (or at least as silent as Serge when he has "conversations"), but I acknowledge that might change with later expansions.

      @@gregtroyan No I haven't, because I have not finished all the Stories yet. I have watched all your Ranking Videos except a couple, and I am rewatching them now with the wife, but skipping any sections of X, XI, XIII, XV, and Tactics (thank you for the time codes), as she hasn't played them (well, in the case of X/X-2 she played them but doesn't remember much), and doesn't want to spoil herself. We have been actively playing all Instalments for 4 years now, she started with X/X-2 more than a decade ago, she then played and plays XIV alot, and then WoFF, and then around 2020, we started to play VII, VII:AC, VIII, IX, Type-0, VII:R, I, II, III, IV, IV:TAY, FBL, V, VI, SoP:FFO, DISSIDIA DUODECIM, XVI, CC:VII, XII, VII:R2 (still on that) in that order. And of course, tons of XIV in-between. ENDWALKER was perfection for both of us, and for me at least, it is almost impossible for another FF Instalment to reach what that game did alongside the entirety of XIV. Since you clarified, I am not going to argue this point since it's your personal preference, but for me Gold Saucer standalone would be better than Base XI's gameplay, and just some random ARR Side Questline like Hildibrand or The Postmoogle would be better than the entirety of Base XI's Plots combined. Doesn't even begin to touch ARR. PS: In fact, can you point me to a Sidequest in Base XI that is as good as Hildibrand, or The Postmoogle, or the Ixal Quests, or the Sahagin Quests, or even a Character as amazing as Godbert?

    What are we even listening regarding XII lmao. Fun Facts: 1) Playing XII without Gambits is the EXACT system of IV-IX plus Movement. 2) I guess VI and VII Combat Systems SUUUUCK because they "added a speed up button and this is damning to the original". 3) XII (original) is the 2nd highest rated Main FINAL FANTASY Instalment after IX. "Regarded like II". wtf. 4) Gambits are amazing. 5) Someone can not like an Instalment, but it is not acceptable to try and justify it with "feelings" and inaccuracies. 6) No one has any semblance of attention span anymore. Something to ponder about. XII has faster Combat than almost all Instalments. Maybe outside of V, XIV, and XV. Definitely faster than games like IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XIII, XVI, etc

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 5 часов назад

      1. No, in IV-IX the enemies continue to attack while you select manual commands. In XII the enemies freeze while you select commands manually, bringing the entire battle to a standstill. 2. XII's battles, which largely play themselves, benefit from the speed up feature the most because it requires the least amount of manual input from the player when the battles actually begin, and because of a lack of battle music and dynamic character animations, makes the speed up feel far more necessary in this entry than in others like VII, where the fighting is far more stylized. 3. In the eyes of the community, without the remaster, I don't think XII would be highly regarded and would fall into the FFII, FFXIII tier of games. FFXIII was critically well-received when it first came out. FF games get good reviews in general. I was talking about community reception, and without the 4x speed, I don't believe XII would have a good reputation in the community. I don't think it's a bad game, but I think more fans would rank it significantly lower. 4. I agree, gambits are great. 5. I think justifying why someone doesn't like an installment with feelings, while acknowledging the game is good, but conveying how the game just isn't for them based upon their response to the product, is actually pretty reasonable and nuanced. Rather than saying, "This is an objective fact", saying, "This is how I personally respond to this piece of media and the emotional response it gives me" is honest. Saying you don't vibe with something doesn't mean it's bad, it just means it isn't for you. I don't vibe with Dream Theater, some people do. I wouldn't say Dream Theater is bad, it just isn't for me. I vibe with Taylor Swift, a lot of folks don't. Doesn't mean she's bad, just not for them. 6. This is just flat-out false, sorry. XII does not have faster combat than almost all installments, unless you count 4x speed. It's significantly slower than a bunch of games you listed. In particular, VIII, XI, and XIII are all significantly faster than XII. Hell, X is faster and more responsive than XII, and it's completely turn-based. XII, outside of 4x speed, is on par with FFIX for slowest combat in the main series.

    • @gysahlfields7506
      @gysahlfields7506 5 часов назад

      @gregtroyan 1) Nope. "Active" and "Wait" option in Settings is there for FFIV-IX+XII and they behave EXACTLY the same with the addition of Manual Movement (if you want to) in XII. 100%. 2) Nope. XII's Battles if you ignore Gambits, are EXACTLY like IV-IX plus Movement. 100%. Also, because you can move they are also definitely NOT less dynamic animation-wise and movement-wise by default. 3) XIII has the 3rd worst Rating of all Instalments after XV and XIV 1.0. XII has the 2nd highest Rating after IX. You cannot speak about the Community, because you do not know. 4) Yup. 5) Nope. This is not what I am talking about. Feelings+inaccuracies. Like for example saying that "I don't like this, because when you choose Abilities time stands still, while in the other it continues to flow". THIS is not acceptable. 6) Yeah, no. Literally no. XII's Battles end before VIII's have even LOADED, and before even having the Enemy Staggered in XIII. I won't even comment about XI, as XI's Battles are the absolute slowest in the Series (slower than IX). You may not actually be saying what you mean, you may be meaning to say "fast-looking" which would place XVI, XIII, XIV, XV, at the top (XI again at the bottom), but still XII is above all the Turn Based ones in that category. PS: I don't want to be misunderstood, as a Battle System being slow or quick, does not mean it is bad, just correcting the factual inaccuracies. There are some other reasons that you two do not like XII as much, but not what you are articulating. For me, I know that if XII had a Battle Theme it would definitely be my #5 on my List. Maybe #4. If it also had a controllable Airship, it would be #2. As it stands, it is between #5 to #13, cannot decide.

    • @gregtroyan

      @@gysahlfields7506 “Also, because you can move they are also definitely NOT less dynamic animation-wise and movement-wise by default. “ Just because the game has a walk animation and you can circle around an enemy doesn't mean the attack animations are more dynamic and stylized. They aren't. The attack animations in XII are deliberately more realistic, and thus come off as more bland in comparison to the wider, bigger, and bolder strokes of attack animations in games like FFX. Compare the sword strike of Tidus with a big massive leap versus any character in XII just flailing their arm. It's less cinematic. “XIII has the 3rd worst Rating of all Instalments after XV and XIV 1.0. XII has the 2nd highest Rating after IX. You cannot speak about the Community, because you do not know. “ I really don't understand what you're talking about here. You saying I can't speak about the FF community is...odd. I've been a fan of the series since the 90s. I've beaten all of the mainline games (minus XIV expansions and XVI). I've been discussing the games online since 90s on message boards, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, RUclips, etc. Typically, the three lowest ranked mainline FF games are XIII, II, and XIV 1.0 (if they are bothering to rank it). XV usually does not rank below those games and I don't know what you are talking about in regards to XV ranking below them. If there is some game review site that aggregates fan reviews that places XII at the top behind IX, I'm not aware of which specific site you are referring to. If we're talking about Metacritic, XII is behind IX, but it's also tied with X, Endwalker, Rebirth, and VII, so calling it “number 2” is a little disingenuous and bordering on being a lie. “XII's Battles end before VIII's have even LOADED, and before even having the Enemy Staggered in XIII. I won't even comment about XI, as XI's Battles are the absolute slowest in the Series (slower than IX).” If you think the battles in XI are slower than IX, I have no idea what to tell you. If we're talking about loading times between battles, then sure, XII is faster than VIII, but once you're actually in a battle VIII is infinitely more fast. XIII has longer battles, but a much quicker battle speed in terms of gameplay inputs, responsiveness, etc. Are you gonna sub to the channel?

    • @gysahlfields7506
      @gysahlfields7506 4 часа назад

      @gregtroyan I have subbed. I am talking about what we can quantify, professional Reviews. You cannot talk about fan reception, because there is not Data. It's NOT a lie calling XII the 2nd highest professionally rated Main Instalment, it is an absolute truth. Only IX is above XII (tied doesn't mean anything between such amazing games, the Top games in Metacritic are separated by decimals, just like professional runners), and XII is DEFINITELY #2. REBIRTH is a Sequel, I am talking about Main Instalments here. Do you know which are the highest rated Games of all time for Square? 1) FFIX 2) CHRONO CROSS 3) REBIRTH 4) FFXII 5) VAGRANT STORY The difference between REBIRTH and XII, is ALOT less than the difference between XII and VII. Also, the old games have way less coverage (generally less coverage means higher review aggregate), so XII and especially REBIRTH being so high is super impressive. So, you don't like XII Animations. You think they are bland. That is personal opinion and acceptable. Calling them less Dynamic than VIII's or X's is ridiculous and a factual inaccuracy. Also, you are talking about responsiveness and quickness regarding XIII once you are inside the Battle, but it takes about 3 seconds from when I Paradigm Shift until you can play again, EVERY time. Mind, XIII is my favourite Battle Theme in the Main Instalment series, after XIV's. And again, all these are things you have convinced yourself about, because you just like XII less than others. And that is ok. But you don't have to go about inventing reasons. Like for example XII being ANY different than IV-IX with its Active/Wait Battle System.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 3 часа назад

      @@gysahlfields7506 If you go on Metacritic, right now, Final Fantasy X is ranked above FFXII when you rank based on Metascore (if we're going by decimals). User score is a 7.6 for FFXII. Subjective opinions about a work of art and its quality can't really be quantified. If you want to say, among critics, XII is one of the best reviewed games in the era it came out, that is fine when talking about how it was received by critics at the time. But if you look at the longevity of the game, among fans and among critics (look at different articles ranking the FF games), XII is not commonly ranked as 2nd place. It's all subjective. Basing everything on metascore or the tomato meter is missing the forest for the trees. Just because a game is reviewed better doesn't mean the game is objectively better. According to Metacritic, FFXIII is better than XIII-2, but a large segment of fans think XIII-2 is superior. It's all opinions, everyone has theirs. Look, I like XII, you made some good points about the battle system in terms of battle speed in active vs wait, but everything else is basically just a difference of opinion and taste. You can argue the battle animations are more dynamic in XII, but most fans would probably disagree with you, and that's a matter of opinion and taste as opposed to something clearly defined in fact. Resonant Arc actually discussed the battle animations of XII in comparison to other entries and generally agree with the assertion I'm trying to make here. Despite having higher graphical fidelity than previous entries, the movements themselves are less dynamic and cinematic because the character movements aren't as wide and theatrical. Instead of wildly swinging their sword overhead in a jumping motion the will instead do a swift and simple thrust, which feels less flamboyant and thus less dynamic, to many players. I think you're mixing up opinions with facts with a lot of the commentary and are defending XII because you love it, and I agree, it's a great game, and I think your point about active and wait is fair (it's been a while since I played XII and honestly forgot about that bit), and I'm willing to concede you brought up a good point that I was wrong about. But most of what you're arguing is fact is really just arguing opinion and deferring to the opinions of others as proof of the game's quality, when what we were discussing here is why the game didn't vibe with us.

    I have to admit I am responsible for adding this to the Lizzy catalogue of reviews, but its not really Phil's best moments. No worries, I blame Greg for not knowing there is a Lizzy version of the song that is superior. I also feel the hate for the Phil with Dire Straits version is a little much. I find it much more enjoyable than any song BSR ever produced.

    Although I haven't played all final fantasy games (in fact i only played vi through x) I expected ultimecia to be lower, as i found her to be a very weak villain. You just don't soend anywhere near enough time with her, she doesn't have much of a back story and ultimately comes across as bland and generic

      So, looking at the list, all of the villains listed are from games you haven't played. I think Ultimecia could go down a few spots without me losing any sleep over it, but I think I placed her in a decent enough spot compared to those other villains.

    Mark Knopfler has his place in a certain style of music and he doesn't fit at all on this and i feel he was more comfortable on a couple of Phil's solo offerings. Phil's efforts to bring his usual energy just doesn't work on this as Dire Straits are totally out of their comfort zone. I would hesitate to suggest a vibrant and excitable Gary Moore jumping about on stage would have excelled with this imo.

    I was dying inside listening to some bunch of hacks turning a rock and roll classic into a dirge. I suppose it was a case of Dire Straits getting Phil on stage for an unrehearsed encore at the end of a gig. And to be fair, it's a Dire Straits audience, all cardigans and loafers, near comatose from birth and certainly up past their bed time. To think Phil was at the same venue just a year earlier recording Live and Dangerous. This is indescribably poor.

    Keep A-Knockin' Dates back to the '20s and every actual musician on the planet digs this tune. Maybe if you ever had the chance to play some epic gigs with high quality musicians, you would be able to groove on it's greatness. Killer way to close a show. Think next time before you F rank a classic. Little Richard made it popular in the '50s. And to F rank anything with Philip involved is still really not ok to most of us that frequent your channel. Sure, you could have low C ranked this if you wanted to make your ridiculous point, but I digress. This version with Philip and Dire Straits is longer than most versions, and not my fav, but still cool. The Thin Lizzy Live version is great as well, worth a listen. Sound quality isn't the best but you get the picture. It's just Phil, Brian, Darren, and Snowy. ruclips.net/video/n7mQL7R2oQ0/видео.htmlsi=MkT5m4aakPyJ88M6 Perhaps Greg played it during the reaction, that could redeem him some. I wrote this at like 3:30 a.m. After I wake and get a chance to watch the reaction, I may return and clown Greg some more for his piteous take on this tune.😌 Happy Thin Thursday everyone! You too Greg! Edit: Watched it now and only saw the F ranking before watching it. Didn't see you also ranked the Little Richard version. Now hopefully you rank the Thin Lizzy version in A or above as well. Why you didn't react to the Lizzy version in the first place? is beyond me.

      @@gregtroyanI am not questioning Phil's involvement or reacting to this version. I am just saying this version is more influenced by Knopfler than Phil. Obviously more of Phil's influence in the Lizzy version.

    I really have to say that, aside from kids, you're probably the only people to my knowledge who genuinely is a fan of Frozen, because I don't hear a lot from them. As for me, I thought Frozen 1 was fine and enjoyed overall. I haven't watched the sequel though. Is worth it? Also, Batman v Superman >> Civil War sure is a take

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 7 дней назад

      For clarity, the Civil War I was talking about is the A24 film Civil War, not the Marvel film Civil War. The Marvel Civil War is better than Batman v Superman. The A24 film is (based on my reading of spoilers), sillier than the two comic books films. I'm pretty biased in favor of Frozen, so it's hard for me to gauge whether or not you would like Frozen II. I think Frozen II has some very powerful moments, great character beats, great songs, and some interesting lore additions but the ending feels disconnected and like it belongs to a different movie. I think it needed to be about 20 minutes longer. It's weird, in a FFII/FFXV kinda way, so if you're okay with getting weird with it, it's a great time.

      @@gregtroyannow it's clear. I don't why I thought MCU Civil War. I also want to be clear that I am no way a big Marvel fan either, at least not as I used to be, but It would be an interesting take nonetheless. Also, I am pretty used to "not complete, not properly connected or rushed" medias. For example, I personally loved the Super Mario Bros Movie but I aknowledge how flawed and rushed is. I can deal with that, just need the time and motivation to watch Frozen 2.

      @@cerealguy9979 Marvel Civil War and BvS are very similar films in a number of ways, came out around the same time, and are often compared to each-other. So, me talking about a film called Civil War and comparing it to the BvS without clarifying which film I was talking about is my bad, because of how closely associated Marvel's Civil War and BvS are. It makes sense why your mind would go there. I like Marvel, definitely fell off a bit after Endgame but I haven't hated the post-Endgame stuff either, just haven't felt the urge to watch all of it.

    I remember leavng 11 around 52lvl shortly after cop released. I could not find groups to do content. And solo anything was impossible. I tried returning years later. But was completely lost on where to go of what to do. 14 truly made thismuch easier and streamlined with msq. Maybe ill return again.

    I actually prefer this to any BSR track, but Scott's stamp on this track is pretty much absent weirdly. It sounds like any hair metal band of the time, yet there are better songs in the album. If I'm honest I'm still craving a normal Thin Lizzy song, but I am patiently waiting for that. Not had a Dare song for a while so that would be nice too. Keeping it interesting. 👍

    Im just happy to see 2 not at the bottom for once. Ff2's story was ahead of its time, and was basically the empire strikes back. It was underpolished in contrnt yes, but it was there. I feel that ff2 would benefit the most from a full on remake in the style of ff7 remake

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 9 дней назад

      Oh, absolutely. An FFII remake would be incredible. I don't know anyone who thinks FFII has the worst story in the series, so a remake I think would allow it to truly shine.

    Also SE had a chance to offer a server that rolled out expansions like WoW did but they didnt think is was worth doing. That would of brought an easy 4k players into ff1 subscription. That like double the current playerbase and community wanted 75 era server. So im in beleif that if u dont listen to ur community they will go elseware.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 9 дней назад

      I get why SE doesn't think it's worth it. You can play retail with level 75 cap and just ignore expansion content pretty easily. There was no musical or graphical overhaul like in XIV or WoW, or even Runescape. So, I can see them saying, "Wait, they seriously just want a server where we just remove some locations and QOL? They know they can just not use that stuff right?" and not making a classic server.

  • @albertplouffe5146

    Horizon 6 new endgame HENM and they have added changes to HNMs to not allow for botting. Which was a problem in retail they also changed how each HNM to make for a harder more teamwork based kill. They have new quests also. And a whole new music playlist for each zone. And they also have way better launcher then PLayonline launcher which is a big issue with playing retail.

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan 9 дней назад

      Horizon is on the edge. The new stuff they added is something creative and new, but by that same token, it really feels like it's trying to compete with retail with the goal of eventually adding all of retail's content into it. I can see it being bumped up to ethical, but because of the goal of adding everything from retail into it, it falls into borderline for me.

    1) XIV 2) VII It is the only Category that another Instalment is even close to XIV, but XIV still edges VII out. VII has SUCH a good cast! XIV though is unreachable. Also, Galuf is a Top 5 FF Character of all time for many reasons, Laguna is the #1 Comic Relief Character, the Compilation of VII did not ruin Cloud's reputation (it was people's that are now middle aged US-centric 00s mentality of "fans" that couldn't get his development and made it a meme), and the twist in VIII is amazing and a Masterpiece. It didn't come randomly out of nowhere, but was a perfectly orchestrated AND executed plan. It's basically one of the things that makes VIII the Masterpiece it is.

      Some scorching hot takes in there. I do think Cloud's compilation characterization has more depth than most give it credit for, and I need to play more of XIV. That said, I respectfully disagree about VIII's twist and would not rank Galuf nearly as high.
