I just do not feel the love for Zack like so many seem to. I am aware of his whole story, and can understand why so many people do like him, I just cannot bring myself to care for him as much as the actual playable party members.

Agreed. I do not feel the same reverence for Zach that many do. Rebirth is increasing my feelings toward him but before this game I was not really on Team Zach like so many in the fandom (and even at Square Enix) are.

they cut rocket town out of ff7 rebirth and made him cry and get rid of cigarettes as well. the new fans want him gone, so thats it.

2:28 Cait Sith's death was meant to be a contrast to Aerith's death before it happens. There's lots of melodramatic buildup to it, then he's just immediately replaced anyway; juxtaposed with Aerith's very real death which is sudden, no final words, no Aerith #2, just the cold and brutal finality.

I've only played the original Final Fantasy 7 (so far), but one of my favorite parts of Aerith's character is something that might just be poor translation in the original game: she's really socially awkward. I agree with everything you said about her, but I think her awkwardness adds so much flavor to her character. I hope it was intentional, because it makes sense: she has a very close relationship with her adoptive mother, but it seems like otherwise she mostly keeps to herself (until she's fleshed out a bit more in the rest of the compilation of Final Fantasy 7.)
Respect your list, even though the only thing I 100% agree and match with it is Yuffie and Cait Sith. I think the remake and rebirth are doing a great job of increasing a lot the amount of party interactions, making both of these characters way more likeable.
Cid is such a breath of fresh air for being so inappropriate, not being good or evil really, and so much fun. He has such charming, goofy movements. Like, even his running animation is just better than every other character's. Cid is my #1.:)

On one hand, I love Zack. On the other, I'm scared of what they might do to his character in the Remakes. His sacrifice is part of what makes him a great hero.
I mean, look at what they did to Aerith's death. It supposed to happpened, but the whole multiverse thing just make it confusing.

Aerith had the foresight & forward thinking to know what was going to happened later. Feel like she's quiet underrated
Post Remake and Rebirth, I think the weakest characters are Cid and Vincent, just because they haven't had a chance to truly shine yet. Yuffie and Cait Sith were both improved and deepened in the remakes to the point where I see them as much more interesting than Cid and Vincent at this point in time.
Im happy to see Zack get the spotlight. He is very crucial to clouds story and just wanted to be a hero but always failed except saving cloud in the end.
Would love to see one of these for the support characters in FF7. They all have pretty fleshed out plots too. Avalanche, Bugenhagen, Johnny, Charley (new game), Gast, Lucretia, etc.
My number 2 would have been Vincent. Nice Italian Senate shout-out lol. A little birdie told me that they approve your list.
I honestly agree with this list based on OG 7. Did the remakes shape the list at all, cus for me it shot barret up to 1.
its unfortunate that Remake/Rebirth executed his character arc. Sure would be a shame for them to write complex characters that are morally grey, instead of just making everything blatantly black and white.
Red XIII so low is so sad.
I think in Marlene-Cloud scene Barret is OVERprotected her or just dumb and aggeesive. I mean Cloud doing nothing and it's natural fear of unknown for Marlene.

Good list, but id say if we are talking remake/rebirth then atm Red XIII and Cait Sith are above Cid for me. Unless the 3rd game brings more of his OG self to his character, he is just above Yuffie for me. Rebirth Cid is just a little plain for me.
The original did a great job of saying why Yuffie hated Shinra and wanted all the materia. You had to play through all of the Wutai side quests

Barrett is an easy #1 for me. The whole thing with Dyne was so tragic.
Okay hear me out…is Zack a proto Zidane? They’re both optimistic, cheerful, emotionally supportive leaders who inspire those around them. Zidane got an extra hit of “shameless flirt” and Zack got an extra hit of perkiness, but they both seem temperamentally similar!
I never played CC but I’ve seen clips, and gotta say, I love Zack too even having only tangential interactions with him!
Editing to add: I love how CC shows how much of an influence Zack had on Aerith. She seemed a lot more reserved before, but meeting him had a big impact on her own personality. I thought that was sweet.
Zack had only about 5-7min of screentime in the OG game. Zodane actually kinda came before, since Zack didn't turn into an actual character till Crisis Core

Zack is good. He’s a better version of Cloud. But Cloud is kinda a dead pan honestly. He’s the hero. But Barrett, Tifa, Vincent, and probably Red are more interesting. Reds hate for his dad and his human grandpa with no legs are interesting and underrated

Love that even the characters at the bottom are still totally awesome. I share your sentiments Re: Yuffie. I never really cared for her until Intermission, and I'm still kinda mad that after years of finding her annoying the new games have made her so awesome ahaha.
Zack's fine, but I think I'm in the minority of not adoring him. I'd personally place him ahead of Cait and Yuffie.

In my opinion, Zack is not even a main character on FF7. If we are talking about the whole Compilation of FF7 then we can start including him and in my opinion he is a pretty bad character that is a just a plot device.
Wish the list would also include characters of FFV aside from the main characters or else this list would have been more fun to watch.

I love Zack! I love that his personality is pretty much the opposite of Clouds. He’s such a fun character. Tifa would have been my number 1.

Zack is the typical traditional cocky confident hero who balances out the atypical approach they took with making cloud. I like zack but he is a pretty basic character put in relatively unusual circumstances.

I get that people are too woke today that they cant appreciate Cids original story arc, it was a man who had his dreams shattered, and had to live in a "rocket town" as he dreamt about space, very ironically. And ofc, his "wife" ruined his dream as well so now he has to wake up and looking at the person who ruined his day, and when he goes out he is reminded about not being able to reach space, yet the rocket is there every day. but all they (new fans) can focus on, is a man cursing at his wife. the fact that in rebirth they even made him not have cigarettes and even get "teary eyed" was bizarre , but I get it, new audience- have to pander to people who are triggered often. but yeah, being a kid back in 97 it made me realized that often broken people have a past, and not everyone who is sweet talking you are "good" and someone else who is cursing is "evil". thanks ff7! they even cut rocket town out of ff7 rebirth, you win lefties. we get it, get rid of cid! and "zack is back" you win!
I hope they can somehow do him and his story justice in the third game.

I really dont understand why people like tifa. I feel like her character is hollow and so Japanese with her mannerisms. I think people just like her because of her cup size.
That and she uses her fists.

she kind , caring girl that put other people feelings over her the girl was seeking revenge ( the flashback incident ) because she lost her home and family but find out revenge and rage will not solve anything finding out she in tight spot she find cloud she wants to get comfort with him but, that he's not the full man she knows, she want to fix him but every time he gets worse she afraid to lose the man she loves so she won't tell him about the incident about his memory 1- she afraid it will make him worse 2- afraid he is maybe a clone not the real thing , her moment in chapter 9 in rebirth was amazing from that moment forward she feels that she will believe in the man she love and trust him and try to fix him in the best way she could think off . Like cloud mother said to him you need find mature kind girl who will make you in the straight and narrow way .
Tifa has great personality people get attracted to that and her look men love's a beautiful ,kind , caring girl and she can cook that a plus in my book
I’m a straight woman and I love Tifa-has nothing to do with her appearance. I think she’s the most relatable and human character in the entire cast.
As a kid, awkward preteen me really related to a character who was hardworking, emotionally supportive of other people, but too reserved about voicing her own needs. I like the dichotomy that despite her appearance, her personality is more reserved and less ostentatious.
I like that she’s a builder of community, safety, and warmth-she’s the personification of a warm hearth. Yet, in contrast to her outer life, her inner life is a bit of a people pleaser, who despite being surrounded by people, is still sort of alone.
I like the contrast of a girl who has a fairy tale dream of being rescued by a brave knight…but also goes out and becomes a martial arts master so she can rescue people herself. And I like that despite her promise with Cloud to rescue her once he’s a big hero, she actually already likes him as he is-just a normal boy with a steadfast, protective heart. He already is a hero to her.
She loves deeply, cares sacrificially, but is struggling with loss to such an extent, she avoids voicing her truest thoughts and desires for fear of further loss. Like most the other cast, her arch is reaching a point where she is willing to accept the risk of loss -for her that means stating what she wants even if it’s not reciprocated.
There’s a lot of courage in that. I like her. She’s a complex mix of virtues and relatable weaknesses. The lady is a queen and it has nothing to do with her obvious external beauty.
