Having watched this after the direct and looking closer, Yoshi puts his whole mouth over his nose.

It looks like the artwork from Mario World, yeah...
The difference is that Yoshi's nose is completely round and ball shaped, which means in order to get that expression...his mouth has to overlap part of his nose instead of meeting it halfway.

Honestly, at least now he looks like he could actually eat all of the shit he normally does. The SMW design also had quite a wide mouth and a nose that Yoshi could still see through. The Yoshi's-Story-and-onward design went the other direction completely. This one doesn't fix the nose, but at least it fixed the mouth.

Simple solution to if you wanna play Yoshi but not on easy mode. Pretend he has one life and if you get hit restart the level. Boom.
While the Yoshi face is good, the best part of the frame that Vinny paused on is the two other creatures looking directly at Yoshi uncomfortably.

Also, I’m also bummed that Yoshis are “easy-mode” characters. Their flutter jump and spitting projectiles back are more than enough to make them a must play for everyone! Also, who legit likes Nabbit?
I wanna add something here and say that overall, I more than glad Yoshi’s even included! I’ve always been real frustrated whenever Yoshi is added in a mainline Mario game after World, he was always a context-sensitive power up meant for the one level he’s in. Just seeing him as a standalone character *in a Mario game* is quite the breath of fresh air. Unlike Nabbit, which I find a bit of a meh character anyways, I would definitely play as Yoshi in many runs of Wonder: I’m just slightly disappointed playing as him won’t be as challenging as playing as Mario and the rest solely because of his enemy damage resistance.
Although, now that I think about it, it kind of fits. Yoshi in Mario games can never be killed by enemies, getting hit by enemies only knocks Mario off of him. It’s always environmental hazards that kills the steed, so in a way, Yoshi always had this buff from the very beginning.

I love the new Yoshi noises and faces, the sounds they make are so cute, and the faces are also pretty hilarious.
I get that there are 4 characters for normal mode and 4 for baby mode so everyone can play how they want in a game, but i just wanted a normal difficulty yoshi so i could still play as him without it being easier

It confuses me why people keep asking "Why is Yoshi easy mode?" as if him having a flutter jump and the ability to defeat most enemies more easily by eating them wouldn't make the game easier on it's own
what's more confusing is how people expected yoshi to take damage considering the fact that he has never done that in 2D mario games

@@hedgelad712 Same, a good trade-off to having these extra abilities would be for him to take damage *and* not use power-ups outside the Super Mushroom (as the action button is already occupied by his tongue)
In every 2D Mario game, there were negative consequences for taking damage with or as Yoshi. You'll either be ejected and he'll start running, or you lose Baby Mario and have to scramble to get him back. He's never just been given a free hit (not to mention he takes actual damage in games like Yoshi's Story). And Yoshi's Island is way harder than most 2D Mario games to boot.
And yes, flutter jump and being able to eat things does make it easier on its own, but some people might wanna play as Yoshi without completely trivializing the game. They could have easily just kept Yoshi as a normal character and included a badge that grants invulnerability to enemies. There's a big difference between enhanced abilities and being unable to be killed by anything except instant death hazards.

When you want to play as your favourite character but doing so makes the game easy : B I G S A D
Yoshi not taking damage while not being able to use power ups is a fair compromise in my opinion. Sure, it takes away some of the difficulty but at least it’s in spirit to how Yoshi is as a character. He’s mostly been “invincible” throughout main line Mario games. Besides; it makes the game a lot more accessible to kids and their parents who want to play.
It strongly resembles a drawing of yoshi in the SMW manual.
