You went from being completely off my radar to one of the anglers I'm gonna root for the most in 2024.
Of course the establishment is gonna push back on what you're doing, but truthfully I think you're doing the everyday BASS fan a huge service by speaking the truth. Keep it up 👍

Jacob, sheeting some light on tough subjects will always get scrutinized. Just keep telling your story about your journey and keep putting out good content, and great things will come of that. Haters will always be haters, but thats generally due to them having regrets of giving up on their own dreams and wanting someone to blame or vent about. I believe you have good things coming your way, and I cant wait to see it happen. Go make your dreams come true and then all the haters will be left with a bad tastre left in their mouths. Jacob Fouts Lets GO!!!!!!!!!!

I’m 77 years old know and back in the late 70’s I wanted to go pro. I thought I was ready. I was a pretty good fisherman around my area. Then when out on the road it hit me. Sponsorship wasn’t coming like I wanted but bills where coming at home. I just could manage it. That was back when entry’s where 500 bucks. You still had lodging and fuel. Had a job I could fall back on. Went back to fishing locally. There will always be haters so don’t let that drag you down. Live your dream.

Couple thoughts/questions: 1) Do you know how views/impressions actually translate into $ (from a RUclips and sponsor perspective)? I'd be curious to see a video on that. 2) Not sure of the technicalities of doing this, but my son mentioned that I ought to do it. Can you stream each of your tourney days (practice, maybe???) on something like "Twitch" and potentially get subscribers to pay to watch/follow along? My thought behind this is that the leagues ought to have this as an offering, where we as fans can have an annual or specific tourney subscription and pick say 4 guys to physically watch them fish on that day. I think it would be so cool to have a voice breakdown along the way (as if you're talking to a guy in the back of the boat), on why you decided to start here, throwing X lure because, and so on through out the day. Anyway, keep your chin up.

Definitely can be done now with the tech just not sure if the pros have any restrictions from series to do that live during an event given the series is also doing live feeds with commentary. Would be awesome though.

This is great stuff and I appreciate what you're doing and saying. Taking a "Dream" to reality and making it a career is tough. First off, it becomes a job and work. It's no longer for the fun of it. Then, you have to win, now you have to be an influencer and on all the social media. While this is the new reality, it is also tough to deal with. This struck a chord with me as I was a professional drummer for about 7 years. My love of music and drums was and is still in tact, but it became work at that time, because I needed money. The best musicians in the world are not making millions. They are WORKING and working every day. I had one time that I was stepping off a small stage, playing in front of about 20 people and I bumped into a very famous bass player. For that night, he was getting paid almost nothing and beer tickets, just like me. The only difference was that he would get a call to play on a tour at any point, and even then it's not for the millions that everyone thinks. To make a dream your job is hard and it is work and many times that can shatter the dream. Keep your head up, man. You got this and never let the dream die. Keep up the vids, do everything you can to build your following I know I subscribed, because I know how it feels. I support you...for whatever that is worth. I'll be sharing your videos as well. Cheers man!! Go catch-em!

Great Video. You are spot on about the sponsor stuff. I paid $$$ for my kid to go hear pros and sponsors "give advice and teach them". The biggest sponsor at the event, the owner said "I don't return anyone's emails or phone call. If I want you, I'll call you." I don't buy his product to this day. He wouldn't give the kids the time of day. BASS fishing is broken all the way down to the High school level in some shape or form. But our saying is, Participation is Voluntary. Keep Digging and rolling out the great content.

Coming from a somewhat introverted fishing nerd..... keep your head down keep grinding. Dont worry about those that dont support you in your endeavors.... the gurus that own the industry wanted to grow the sport and it grew immensely.... you now have a huge number all competing for fewer pieces of the pie. That being said with low to no sponsorship dollars you aren't tied down by telling the truth or doing whatever you want or need to do to keep your dream going..... Head down grind it out and along the way keep teaching what you want to teach in videos .... dont focus on the negative, just realize it exist everywhere and do your best not to be led into that aspect. Articulate your words to sound more comfortable in your talking and in no time you will be spitting out chats like Gman. God Bless and keep crankin!

I totally agree! Sadly the sport can’t sustain that! Solid sponsorship is the only way most pro anglers can remotely make it! The sport will never have the sponsorships like it did in the early 2000s. Hell, if I could live life over again, I woulda put my effort in being a pro golfer! lol Of course golfing is extremely difficult, but a gamble that makes way more sense then pro bass fishing! A shit ton of practice,(same as pro bass fishing) golf equipment opposed to the whole fishing equipment scenerio ( No comparison obviously) Plane tickets opposed to hauling your 150+ grand plus rig all around the country (obviously no comparison). Winning amounts obviously no comparison! When you think about it, to strive to be a pro angler in this day n age is pretty dumb! lol And for the record, I don’t even golf! 😜

Now there's local "guides" that use the buddy system sometimes to help find fish or what have for themselves to get clicks and some of them don't even fish tournaments. The worst part is they have sponsors that are solid in the industry not because of their effort.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the requirements placed on tournament anglers to have a wrapped boat and jerseys while sponsors aren't willing to pay for the advertising/exposure. Why the tournament organizations feel it's ok to require this? Would tournament anglers still promote these companies if they weren't required to?

Keep doing what you do. I do have a couple of things to say, though. I don't think getting to the Elites is an easy thing to do at all. You have to pay and fish all nine qualifiers and finish in the top nine. That's no easy task. Patch Pirates: That's a bit of a slap in the face to guys that are looking for any break they can get. If I can get a 15 to 20 percent break on a product you can bet I'd take advantage of it, in exchange for a little promotional work.

I applauded you brother for being a normal hard working person in the industry. However, there is no prestige behind the title of “Pro Fisherman” anymore. Once upon a time it was the pinnacle of our sport but unfortunately things have changed. As a whole, the professional fishing circuit is simply a platform for anglers to dance on social media for their sponsors. You’re correct in that most anglers, with a desire to succeed in the industry, could simply start any number of social media channels to promote themselves and respective products they use to catch fish. Unless our sport takes a solid stance, in support of the best athletes we have, The title of “Professional Bass Angler” will be replaced with “ The best fishing Influencer” regardless of your skill and talent level. SMDH. Keep up the good fight Jacob!

Focus on storytelling. Even in your on the water vids. If people want drama, mix a little of that in, too. Storytelling is everything in marketing and on social media platforms. People like Gary Vaynerchuck and Casey Neistat talk a lot about this and have great content. Being creative and original is difficult. Try to find something unique about yourself, and brand it. Whether it's something like a catch phrase you overus or something you wear, a signature technique, for example. I want to see you win this. Great attitude. Keep after it.

But more importantly, fish too well for them to NOT sponsor you. Top 10s and blue trophies. Good luck.

It’s a saturated industry and there isn’t much to go around. Every company has 100k boat, last year was the worst in sales for boats, and prices have stayed the same. That is what a resistant market looks like. Until something changes it perpetuates and steepens brand depreciation. It’s just like the railroad crash in the 1800s when that industry was over saturated. No one sees or accepts that it is going to happen until it happens.

I don't know of any anglers doing this out there, professional or otherwise, but perhaps you could do a Patreon? Again, not sure what the success could be from that but just a thought. Randy Blaukat just touched on the thing about his actual fishing and knowledge videos getting way less views than his industry or really gossip videos. You're correct, that's the world we live in sadly. It doesn't mean that the fishing videos aren't valuable, not all is about the views but reality is views pay the bills. Good luck!

I think you should try to do a collaboration with Randy Blaukat on the water, where you two can share your thoughts as they naturally come up while you both fish. I think it would be a nice juxtaposition to see two professionals from opposite points in their careers. I think it would be something you both could appreciate, and something both of your audiences should definitely benefit from by gaining a greater understanding and appreciation for the life of a professional angler, through the balance of both of your perspectives. Both of your sincere and honest personalities seem like they would compliment each other well, as your audiences are probably very similar too.
Just my two cents. You are chasing your bass fishing dreams, which is far more than 99% of us can say, sir! tight lines!

@@jacobfoutzfishing lol! well I think you have something on him that the audience would really love to see -- Randy Blaukat actually using FFS to fish, by default. It's got to be something people will tune in for and stay tuned in for till the end, just to see if he was convinced enough to see some meaningful purpose that benefits the sport.
Like I said before, I think the juxtaposition of both of your perspectives can have some very rewarding attributes for everyone. Almost like poetry, if I can dare to say so.
Thanks for the reply Jacob. You have a long career ahead of you if you accept the fact that there is no such thing as bad publicity in the marketing world. The hardest part has always been getting ones name to cross peoples lips to the point everyone eventually recognizes it. That's how a name brand recognition is established, and must continue to develop or it just gets forgotten about, no longer being recognized.
Tight Lines and best of luck to you, Sir!

I think the first video I saw of yours came off as a guy griping about gettin to have a dream job...I know it had its downsides and there's hurdles to jump, but it's still fishing for a living and it's the road you chose. I'm a diesel mechanic who loves to bass fish..that's the road I've chose, no reason for me to make a video griping about my job, if I want a pachcheck I gotta go work

Keep catching them. The majority of RUclips fishermen are clueless. Catching bass consistently is much more than a bait or a technique. The insight you share about the workings of the fishing industry is interesting, not many people are doing that.

The sport of fishing is amazing. Tournament fishing is just an exploitation of something pure . I still fish 3-5 big tournaments a year out of state but I really have my most fun just going on vacation catching fish . Tournaments are fun and overrated at the same time. I can guarantee anyone who fished saltwater for a season straight will wonder why they even chase 3 pound fish in freshwater.
