This video defines hitting the nail on the head, I work for a big agency and this is 100% facts. These big wigs are stupid. They don't know what is expensive, but the good thing is they also don't know what is cheap.
I deal exclusively with corporate clients. We are “reassuringly expensive”. We want to present value to the client during the production (because that’s what they are paying the closest attention to). I can do everything with my FX-3 that I can with my FX-6 (the FX-3 is better for B-Roll) but when I show up to a shoot the FX-6 comes out on the the video production cart. The 17 inch monitor with the feed from the wireless transmitter. If I’m using two camera angles, I use the other transmitters for an iPad so the client can see both views. As content creators, we know that all though some gear is superior to other gear, we can still get the job done. The client doesn’t care about the name on the camera or model number, what they do care about is getting their money’s worth. One other thing to consider is to bring a production assistant on the job with you. Adding one or two people on the job makes the client feel like you are not bagging the entire amount they are spending. They feel more value when a team of professionals show up rather than one individual doing everything.
Just starting a videography business - this video gave me a lot of insight on how to approach client scenarios. The psychology behind the service you provide is a big factor. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledgeable perspective!
"Treat them the way they want to be treated" You just summarized in one sentence 1 billion of book, videos, conferences, career coaching BS about marketing.
Earthy coffee stained LUT hahahaaa! On a serious note, it’s a real relief watching a creator saying what we all thinkin’. THIS is the type of content I hope to see more of, as the YTiverse seems to be pivoting from all these horrid collab deals

So!! Thanks a lot bro, now I can’t read these words without hearing your voice in my head. TRASH, PROFESSIONAL, SCIENCE, FX30, HEY MAN, and finally anything that costs 29.99. Lol Love your shit bro!
Also, i really like how you kinda termed “dress up” your camera. Im always conscious how i dress so i guess thats the best way to describe why i feel the same way towards my gear in front of clients.
If i could come work under you for a while to learn and cooperate - i would do it with no questions. the thing about youtube is that makes you feel like you know someone but you really can't. yet your honesty is not something that can be ever replaced by hype or any other crappy stuff that we see at other tubers. and also that i know you are honest in real life. It was informative, really helpful i didn't know why we would need this mat box instead of normal ND. now i know a little better. Thank you for your content man. every video of yours is valuable even if you see it or not.
all I got to say, is this shit is hilarious. And that's not to say what this man is saying isn't true, because it is. I don't have as such a bleak view of clients as him, BUT, can't say that many people that hire filmmakers aren't actually like this. I started shooting over 14 years ago, and my clients often voiced concern if I didn't always have a big ass rig. If I showed up with a rig fully built? No questions. I liked the comparison showing up to an office job with a shirt and tie too, because that's legit. Keep doing your thing Vu.
I luv the real world sound effects in the bg. By the way, where do u honestly think Sony is located, in Europe of course. That's why they made Auto Focus that Works and Screens that don't. Right? 😎😎
13:09 lol says the magnet attachments never work, then immediately drops a hex key and just leaves it. It works if you use it bro lol - love your content 👏
I want that exact ulanzi carbon fibre tripod. What's the model number? Can't find it on the website. Possibly not fully out in the wild yet? I'm at the point where I want the smallest lightest setup humanly possible. I used to stress so much about how professional I looked but tbh I have no shame anymore, I'll happily turn up to a big shoot with minimal stuff and still charge them big boy money! But to be fair it did take me a while to get to that point in confidence lol
Dude i totally feel you here. I went to an invite only show and recorded with the new gopros lol. I got side eyed for real, like i was trash using them, even tho most my videos looked better then anything else that hit youtube. So to look the part now i bought a sony fx30. granted it will be nice having the low light benefits now of the sony but still. So i will as you say, douch it out now. Its pretty funny in a sad way.
I was actually hoping for a huge battery pack mounted at the back of your camera. You know, the ones that can really break your back. I am also missing a huge shotgun microphone mounted with XLR cables to your FX-3 top handle. A tiny clip on microphone is so unprofessional. And it does not matter which light you use, as long as you use the biggest soft box that you can find. Why did you actually use that small monitor. I think you can find a small TV to do the job. Don't forget to bring 100 meter electrical cable to power the TV. And never show up in your car but actually bring a small truc and pretend the rest of your equipment is stored in the truck. Don't forget to hire your nephew who works out in the gym and give him a nice security guard outfit and let him guard your empty truc. While he is out there, let him call you a few times during the shoots and pretend that he is a customer looking for a videographer. Mention high project costs that are way over the top and of course he will agree with any price you mention. So, basically, do everything that makes your clients happy.
i love that he sounds like an army sergeant giving us a lecture on gun maintenance. also does he have a fishing tutorial for noobs? My late father left behind loads of fishing stuff and i have no idea what is what. Like what is this metal ball bearing with holes in it? Why does this lure flashes rgb and has a mini needle thing stand stabs thing with a motor? Why is there this glowing in the dark fishing line thing?
Next Time U make a corporate video, "Think Texan!" Get a Cowboy Hat, be sure and do lots of drawls, you'all and show up with even bigger Monster Cams, Sticks and Battery Packs. Dallas & Houston will be demanding u show up at their door step for the next big Offshore Oil Conference! 😎😎
Great video! I really love the Freewell setup you got. Do you really need the Mattebox to use the ND filters?' Or can those also be used indidually with the lens?
I like Falcam, but the one I just got for the A7RV has ONE MAJOR FLAW... the cage covers the Mode Dial so much so that you can't get a finger in to turn the switch from stills to video.
Slap on the matte box, a shotgun mic, external monitor....voila! What's your setup when you just want to film outside solo filmmaking without being robbed?
