Carrying for my first week reminds me of when I started wearing watches and jewelry. I just wanted to fidget with it to make sure everything was snug, but sadly you cannot do that all the time with your holster and firearm. If you've got rental ranges near you, I highly suggest trying out your top 3-5 choices before investing in a gun, ammo, holster, and most importantly: training.
Wish I would have done that before trying to conceal a g19. I used to try and make myself carry it all day to the point I would sweat from pain. Now I carry an xmacro that I had the grip professionally chopped to take 12rnd xl mags. Went through a lot of unnecessary spending on holsters and guns to get to this when I could have just rented them out to see
I can not overstate how appreciative I am of how grounded you guys are about this subject and firearms in general. I also dress in a very particular way and always feel like I'm printing and will try some of your guy's apparel suggestions. thanks for the great vid.
Just so the big boys know it is possible to carry appendix with a little extra padding. I do it comfortably using a tier 1 xiphos with a large wedge. You just have to try different things to see what works best with for you with the “tactical tummy.” Definitely look into wedges for your holster if you are a bigger guy. But of course the best thing to do for a more comfortable carry is to hit the gym.

You guys are the first ones to mention the feeling you get where you feel like your gun is so obvious. I just started carrying since I turned 21 in July and in the summer I have been so worried that I was always printing even when I know it most likely is not that noticeable.
Spotlight effect is no joke- It's a whole lot less noticeable than you think; our mindset has been gun people who notice don't care and people who don't know about guns don't notice.

I was in the same boat, I am 6’0” 168 and I’m a skinny guy. I noticed that I don’t print nearly as much as I thought its just cause I can notice it in the mirror. I’ve gotten hugged while carrying appendix and that’s the only time anyone’s noticed I’ve been carrying, even in summer time t shirts it’s all in your head.
I am 5' 8" and 140 lbs. I carry because 6' and 225 lb males like to intimidate people. I carry a gun for personal protection only. I do not want to scare people like "some" big males do. You do not want people to detect that you have a weapon; if you do,...they will see you as a threat! Very good video on dressing to concealed carry 👍🏾

Another pretty decent option out there and probably one of maybe 2 universal holsters I'd actually use is the phlster floodlight and the enigma system to expand that out to the point you could wear your pistol w/light, extra mag(s) and wear a support belt for medical and miscellaneous equipment

As a big boy myself (6’5” 330lbs )I’ve found that appendix can be comfortable you just have to play with it a little bit and find something that works I carry a Glock 45 and it’s pretty comfortable for a full size gun
This is very informative for me. I still struggle with conceal carry especially in summer. Most of my pants and/or shorts have elastic waistband with no belt. I hate belts!
I recently bought a velco belt called comfort concealment. I also hate wearing belt loops, and ive worn it a few times since ive recently got into concealed carrying; I think its worth checking out.
7:25 i've been carrying for years and have never seen that maneuver to tuck in the shirt prior to putting the gun on. Thats an amazing technique. Just jumping through some of your content, good stuff.
For me as a bigger dude, behind the back or off the hip works best. Skinny boys can appendix all you want but a 226 hammer in the gut is not comfortable at all, lol.
I carried a Sig P229(.357SIG) for years, in an IWB (at around 2:30/3:00. For me, the game changer for concealability and comfort, was when Alien Gear came out with their I believe Sport Tuck belly band. It's like a modular belky band that works with their IWB holsters and Ive use Stealth Gear as well with my P229 with a TLR2 and now using a Hidden Hybrid IWB with my FNX45 with a TLR1. Im more of a legit "dad bod" than a standard fat guy. I have really broad chest and shoulders, but I dont have a giant food blister. I can perfectly the FNX45 with the belly band set up, placing the floor plate of the mag basically where my lat meets my ribs. With the way shirts hang from my chest and shoulders, I dont have an issue carrying closer to my hip, and carrying actual appendix qould probably print more than what I havve going on, now. Tucking in a shirt for a semi dress casual is bo problem, as the holster is completely under the shirt, and no exposed belt clips. Just remember fold under the tucked part of your shirt, where you need to clear for pistol access. Although I can oerfectky conceale with just a T-shirt, i usually wear an additional hoodie, whether it be a sweater inbthe fall, winter, and spring, or a thinner T-shirt material zip up in the summer. Living in Nor-Cal with triple digit summers a sweatshirt style zip up is too warm and too out of place. Honestly, more companies need to get into the modular bellyband type of set up. You can't get a holster pressed tighter to your body, than with a belly band. Having an actual kydex or hybrid holsteer rayher than just a material pistol pocket and retention strap, is way more safer and secure. The biggest advantage of a modular belly band, is no matter what orientation you prefer to carry, you can easily use the restroom, without exposing your pistol and keeping it accesible should you becaime the target of a bathroom assassination attempt. Additional plus, is your waistline won't bunch where yiur homster clip is, and if you carry more toward your hip, you don't have one pant leg bunching at the ankle, or the need to periodically pull up your belt where the weight of your rig settles. There's no weight on your belt or pant wasitline. It's all supported by the belly band. Admittedly, it doesn't work too well for formal dress unless you're wearing some kind if maybe cardigan, or suit coat.
The biggest tell is when people fidget with their carry gun, nobody is looking until you start adjusting your waistband. I carry a fullsize in a Blackhawk serpa owb and it really prints, nobody has ever mentioned it.

I've always wondered why people carry more rounds in the winter than the summer? The way I see it is crime is at its highest in the summer so why not have more ammo around that season?
Joe’s thought is if you’re reloading you are already pretty F*cked. It’s more about the max rounds we can conceal on our person; you’re wearing lighter clothing in the summer so in Joes case that’s less room. HR just always carry’s a G19 and sidecar

I've got a Vedder pocket holster. I carry a Springfield XDs (don't judge, it was 500 dollars, and the Sig P365 hadn't come out yet). Anyways, it literally disappears on my person and its super convenient. It's a little silly, but it works well!
More important question is WHAT BRAND PANTS?! Pockets can be such huge hit or miss options for any CC gun, even so called pocket pistols. Carrying a Springfield XDs in your pocket is impressive!
I live in WA I just ordered an XMacro conversion kit. Comes with everything needed except for the fire control unit. Also comes with 10 round mags instead of 17
Went from carrying a shield plus to carrying my M&P metal. Carried my shield till when I gripped my shield consistently I would eject the 13 round magazine when shooting. (The magazine was fully seated) I had the shield plus since it came out but have started to grip my handguns much harder.
That 2nd gun is single action not double action. Single means you must cock the hammer. Double means you can pull the trigger to fire. Or cock the hammer.

It's interesting that you equate wearing Carhartt and flannel to "obviously carrying a gun". I've noticed that when gun guys dress normally then whatever normal they choose becomes the next "tactical". 15 years ago people were mocking guys that carried "concealed" with 5.11 pants and Grunt Style t-shirts and said that you should just wear jeans and flannel. Now jeans and flannel is "obviously tactical" and you should wear North Face stuff instead. I wonder how long it will be until North Face is "obviously tactical" and you should wear [insert type of clothing that nobody associates with guns here]?

Can you conceal carry in a tracksuit? Of course. But cops are gonna hassle you anyway. Khakis + shirt with buttons + leather shoes + sportcoat = I can carry three guns (shoulder, hip, and ankle) and six extra mags into a police station, a school, a hospital, or an airport, and nobody will look at me twice. Dress like Carlton Banks not Will Smith
Thankfully, I live in a rural place where cargo pants and plaids/flannels are pretty much standard wear and doesn't stick out at all. This means, even during the summer, I've got tourniquets and first aid and sometimes a light on me in addition to a firearm. I carry un-chambered in a soft holster. I know, I know. But I'm not as fast or as good a shot as any "high-speed" guy already. I also carry at 3 or 4. So I've committed all of the sins of concealed carry. But I figure it might be worth throwing out some of my reasoning. I'm not a big fat guy by any means, but I've always found appendix carry quite uncomfortable. The things I do throughout the day require a lot of bending over and movements that just don't seem to work out with hard holsters at appendix. If I'm out in the mountains, I'll often just carry with a hard outside-the-waistband holster (and in that case be chambered). But I also live in a town with more guns than people, so it's not shocking to see if my shirt rides up on that kind of holster. If I'm ever in a place where there is a shooter, if I'm the first person targeted, I'm probably just down. The fastest draw in the west isn't faster than somebody who's already pointing at you with a willingness to pull the trigger. The reason I carry is to be faster in responding than police to something, perhaps at my children's school or the store. But if I'm not the first person down, it means I probably have more than 1.2 seconds to react. Would it be better if I WERE a "high-speed" guy in such situations, able fast draw and sprint into action with deadly accuracy from even great distance quickly enough to stop bad things faster? Yeah, that'd be great. But my job in life is not guns. I do try to practice and be proficient. But at this time, the comfortable holster makes sure I carry all the time. And in most situations where I am most likely (though still low in probability) to need to engage a foe such as a mass shooter, I will drop to the ground, ready my weapon, assess the situation, and come up ready and willing to drop a baddie. I know tons of people disagree with me on this. That's fine. But the way I do it means I DO carry pretty much everywhere, with a willingness to defend myself, my family, and my brothers and sisters around me, and put myself between them and danger. I'm not the best there is, but I'm there and willing. And even with the best gear, I'm never going to be the best. But I'm there and I don't have to go home or to my vehicle to be armed and ready.
Dude thank you for showing how you orient your belt. I was wearing my Kore the opposite way and it had my gun more offset to my right with appendix carry. Now my gun is more center and it is way more comfortable and better concealment. Im a big boy too but appendix is possible for us for sure
I found out my belt is just almost always on upside down but that's just how I wore it to make the gun fit my body size better. Glad you got something out of this! were working on a whole series of videos on concealed carry/use
I dont own a glock but yes... You need to be able to whip that glock out real fast and if you have a big long glock you really need to train to know how to handle it.
@@DeskPop A friend of mine just got a Glock 34. He let me borrow it at the range and I really worked it over. It would definitely take some practice learning how to whip it out fast from concealment, but once that baby's out, that long boy can be put to very effective use. It's definitely pleasant to make it reciprocate rapidly and repeatedly.

I've walked by guys open carrying in Walmart, and my wife didn't even notice the gun. 90% of people really aren't paying attention

As a bigger guy, yes it's not comfortable to appendix carry but it keeps my love ones safe. Plus you can adjust when you're sitting down.

Turned 21 and got my first handgun…p365 macro paired with sidecar. Absolutely love this setup!

I've got a Vedder pocket holster. I carry a Springfield XDs (don't judge, it was 500 dollars, and the Sig P365 hadn't come out yet). Anyways, it literally disappears on my person and its super convenient. It's a little silly, but it works well!

More important question is WHAT BRAND PANTS?! Pockets can be such huge hit or miss options for any CC gun, even so called pocket pistols. Carrying a Springfield XDs in your pocket is impressive!

I just ordered an XMacro conversion kit. Comes with everything needed except for the fire control unit. Also comes with 10 round mags instead of 17
Went from carrying a shield plus to carrying my M&P metal. Carried my shield till when I gripped my shield consistently I would eject the 13 round magazine when shooting. (The magazine was fully seated) I had the shield plus since it came out but have started to grip my handguns much harder.
Did you mention having a large box to dump all the holsters, belts accessories you try and discard to find the best combo.
The quantity of holsters I’ve purchased only to land on the $40 discreet carry holster 💀

I carry a 19 appendix just got a 48 MOS it’s easy sitting in a truck now using the bathroom is a fun time tho I prefer carrying that way

It's interesting that you equate wearing Carhartt and flannel to "obviously carrying a gun". I've noticed that when gun guys dress normally then whatever normal they choose becomes the next "tactical". 15 years ago people were mocking guys that carried "concealed" with 5.11 pants and Grunt Style t-shirts and said that you should just wear jeans and flannel. Now jeans and flannel is "obviously tactical" and you should wear North Face stuff instead. I wonder how long it will be until North Face is "obviously tactical" and you should wear [insert type of clothing that nobody associates with guns here]?

Thankfully, I live in a rural place where cargo pants and plaids/flannels are pretty much standard wear and doesn't stick out at all. This means, even during the summer, I've got tourniquets and first aid and sometimes a light on me in addition to a firearm.
I carry un-chambered in a soft holster. I know, I know. But I'm not as fast or as good a shot as any "high-speed" guy already. I also carry at 3 or 4. So I've committed all of the sins of concealed carry. But I figure it might be worth throwing out some of my reasoning. I'm not a big fat guy by any means, but I've always found appendix carry quite uncomfortable. The things I do throughout the day require a lot of bending over and movements that just don't seem to work out with hard holsters at appendix. If I'm out in the mountains, I'll often just carry with a hard outside-the-waistband holster (and in that case be chambered). But I also live in a town with more guns than people, so it's not shocking to see if my shirt rides up on that kind of holster.
If I'm ever in a place where there is a shooter, if I'm the first person targeted, I'm probably just down. The fastest draw in the west isn't faster than somebody who's already pointing at you with a willingness to pull the trigger. The reason I carry is to be faster in responding than police to something, perhaps at my children's school or the store. But if I'm not the first person down, it means I probably have more than 1.2 seconds to react. Would it be better if I WERE a "high-speed" guy in such situations, able fast draw and sprint into action with deadly accuracy from even great distance quickly enough to stop bad things faster? Yeah, that'd be great. But my job in life is not guns. I do try to practice and be proficient. But at this time, the comfortable holster makes sure I carry all the time. And in most situations where I am most likely (though still low in probability) to need to engage a foe such as a mass shooter, I will drop to the ground, ready my weapon, assess the situation, and come up ready and willing to drop a baddie.
I know tons of people disagree with me on this. That's fine. But the way I do it means I DO carry pretty much everywhere, with a willingness to defend myself, my family, and my brothers and sisters around me, and put myself between them and danger. I'm not the best there is, but I'm there and willing. And even with the best gear, I'm never going to be the best. But I'm there and I don't have to go home or to my vehicle to be armed and ready.

Dude thank you for showing how you orient your belt. I was wearing my Kore the opposite way and it had my gun more offset to my right with appendix carry. Now my gun is more center and it is way more comfortable and better concealment. Im a big boy too but appendix is possible for us for sure
I found out my belt is just almost always on upside down but that's just how I wore it to make the gun fit my body size better. Glad you got something out of this! were working on a whole series of videos on concealed carry/use

I dont own a glock but yes... You need to be able to whip that glock out real fast and if you have a big long glock you really need to train to know how to handle it.
The big ones hurt Joe so he prefers them smaller for sure
@@DeskPop A friend of mine just got a Glock 34. He let me borrow it at the range and I really worked it over. It would definitely take some practice learning how to whip it out fast from concealment, but once that baby's out, that long boy can be put to very effective use. It's definitely pleasant to make it reciprocate rapidly and repeatedly.
