btw even though I played all the examples, I'm currently usually practicing this around 150bpm! The most important tip I have is this: If you want to play fast your hands need to be as relaxed as possible! I made a totally free 30 min technique guide you can use to do that here: www.dimitrifantinidrums.com/techniquefundamentals
@user-lq9mw1sb8d I gave it a try, but I went back to what I was doing. There's nothing wrong with it. I just wanted my L hand stronger. This exercise is very even and doesn't really push ur L hand.
This is awesome, this video and some others of yours are part of my daily routine, when I first started this exercise I was starting to tense up around 110-140, now I can do 160 comfortably and 180 when warmed up, it translates extremely well to the kit, I am way more precise and faster... Can't thank you enough for your lessons!
I just started to learn to play drums. This video has been very instrumental in learning sticking. I'm done with week one(1) and I have completed the 50 bpm. Which seemed slow to me, but it helped my grip and hand technique
You never complete these. One week is great, rather than looking at it like you are done, look at it like DAILY, you HAVE to become bored, when you get bored you test your desire. Working through that boredom is crucial then, you can start to improve. It is that desire that is the key. Play everyday, push yourself a little follow this instructor, he is one of the top youtube teachers, you should stay with one teacher at a time though. When you can do what this one shows you. Just even in this one video, you will not need any more. And this applies to every level. Pro's, beginners, will get something from this.
I started doing this a lil. Not a bad lil practice. Ur 120bpm is unusable as someone else pointed out. Also add chapter marks in it if ya can. So it's easier to find each section. Thanks!
Yes I trimmed out the 120 bpm section since the notation didn’t line up with the video, appreciate the heads up! RUclips should have the video updated within 24 hours and then I’ll add those timestamps 👊
Could I suggest using captial letters for the R and L strokes? Brain ends up seeing all strokes as "r's", with these separating brackets "|'s" between them
Having drummed since 1980, I've found that playing triple hits (1 &a 2 &a 3 &a 4 &a...) with the left hand the same way you do with the right - Moeller motion coming from the shoulder on the eighth notes of the 1 &a 2 &a - really gets the left hand/wrist/arm closer to real right arm strength. Your right is used to playing straight eighths add infinitum without issue. Your left needs to, or that strength will never materialize. You have to get the shoulder and arm into it (whipping motion comes down from the left shoulder on the eighths) to get that right arm strength.
You put a space in your count talking about triple hits and talk about 8ths, so your post is confusing. Why the spaces and what are you trying to say? Wouldn't there be evenly spaced counts? 1 & a 2 & a 3 & a 4 & a. ?? RRRLLLRRRLLL LLLRRRLLLRRR ??
It's wierd. I've always played with a closed gap. I tried your technique and thats when I felt the tension. Do you have a video or explanation for this? Do you usually use when you practice or around the kit aswell? Excellent video btw. I feel the hard part is for me when I have to play the full bar 16th notes with the left hand lead. Currently at Level 10. Im glad that I found your channel, keep up the good work! Thank you! :)
if you feel tension when you keep the gap, something else is definitely wrong! Go watch my free technique course, it’s much more comprehensive to get your grip together and relaxed! Its here: www.dimitrifantinidrums.com/techniquefundamentalsyt
Chévere, lo hice 2 veces. La primera empezando con las izquierda, pude hacer hasta los 200 bpm. La segunda vez lo hice empezando con la derecha y le di hasta los 140 pbm. Hoy fue el primer día
I use a tool called looptube to repeat the level I'm on, doing about 20 minutes a day per level. Currently day 3 70 bpm, I'll let you know how it goes.
Day 5 140bpm 20 minutes...I tried this day one (of course) and tensed up, the alternating singles kind of stumbled along. Now it's smooth and relaxed. This is great, thank you.
Thanks for the video, it is wonderful! Im quickly seeing results. I’ve been playing drums for years, but never actually tried to learn how to play until recently. Currently between 160 and 180, it’s tough, but I’m hoping to get through 200 in 2024! I noticed you are gripping with your middle finger. Is that your preference, or do you alternate fingers? Or… am I completely wrong about that. 😂
First day ever and I got up to 100bpm (level 6). I only couldn’t do level 7 because it’s hard for me to read it. Will be practicing with this though. I love it!
@@DimitriFantini I am now up to 140, it is going to take some time to go to 160. That jump seems harder than the 110 to 140. Sorry I'm replying to this but I want to keep myself accountable, you don't have to respond :)
checking back in. I humbled my self and went back to 110. Today I was able to play 110 without mistakes 5 times, I feel comfortable enough to take the challenge and move to 140.
been doing this for a week and a half now, rn im at 160 bpm. this improved not only my speed but also my coordination and endurance. I started playing two weeks ago and this has been really helpful
You still make it look too easy. I had an instructor once who told me to strengthen my left hand to help increase my speed, to start doing everything throughout my day with my left hand instead of my right (because I’m right handed) He said that not only will this strengthen your hand it also allows your brain to reprogram itself where your not automatically using your right hand for everything. Of course the reciprocal of this would be the exact same thing. And just to clarify I’m not talking about anything uh..let’s say private.😊something that a man would do “alone “
great! make sure to NOT do the level that has you cramping up at all! always back it down to a tempo that keeps you relaxed and playing with great timing :)
Why after 5 years of drumming, I can't play 140 bpm ! I'm not that a fan of practicing on a pad (to be honest). But damn, can't do a simple roll on the snare as a break. Even when practicing drums 1h a day.. I saw many youtubers talkin about the "grid". How to develop it to better handle spacing between hits? Btw, great vidéo Dimitri!
I’ll make a video to help with that specifically!!! But the quick answer to help you now: practice “unisons,” both hands perfectly together without flams. Do it slow, keep the hands perfectly together and equal! This will help you a TON to keep the timing consistent when you split your hands up again for singles :)
Day 4 and I'm pretty close to mastering Level 3. I don't want to move on yet though until it's like second nature. Edit: I figured I'd try Level 4 and nailed it. lol
Ah i see what happened… I played some extra measures in the middle of the exercise, so the notation doesn’t match! I was playing from memory and tried so hard to get it right too! Guess this one slipped through the cracks… Darn! 🤣

This is one of the best patterns and video lessons I have ever found. Left handed 16ths at 140 you are a beast!!!
Just practicing on a pad will show results. I put it off 4 too long, not realizing how IMPORTANT it is. I'll give this a try.
Yes go for it!!! Keep me posted on how it’s going!

Things started breaking at 100bpm 😂 this practice was so much fun! I'll definitely incorporate this exercise into my studies
It’s gonna pay off! 🙌
Thank you so much - even by doing this exercise once has improved my hand speed instantly. Love your videos.
Could I suggest using captial letters for the R and L strokes? Brain ends up seeing all strokes as "r's", with these separating brackets "|'s" between them
I thought the same thing. It is more distracting.
Day 1 of doing this exercise (I play marching snare, so I’m doing it to work on my left hand traditional grip), and I did it at 140 BPM :)
Thank You 🥰
very very good and a awesome help. thank you for that extensive video 😊.
1 learned so much from this Video🎉😊
Glad I could help!!

day 3
140 smoothing out but tension creeps in. encouraging tho. great exercise!
This video help me so much thank you
thank you for watching!
Going to do this everyday! Just got my practice pad today, and hope to start lessons for christmas, I’ll update progress everyday!

how's the progress?

Me quedo en el nivel 11 😂, practicaré todos los días hasta llegar al 12. Muchas gracias 🫂
Just started. At level 2. Will be back tomorrow.
Yessss take your time!!!

that's awesome!!!
This was helpful! I was curious how you keep you index finger from wrapping around the stick and then you answered it! Thank you 😄

nice, keep pushing! About the fulcrum question, watch my 30 min technique guide it breaks it all down!
✨SINGLES ✨ 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
first day of druming with chopsticks and a mouse pad that bounce a little i manage 160bpm, i look forward to go to take drum lessons
Amazing.
Day 1: 160
Day 2: 160
Day 3: Almost to 180
Day 4: Still struggling on 180
Day 5: 180 (had to take an extended break due to traveling)
Very good video! How long should I practice a level? 10-20 min? I guess this exercise also applies to the feet? Thank you!
10-20 minutes at a time is good. That doesn’t mean you just jump up a level right afterwards however!
...very cool lesson- thx for sharing ...I'm getting ready to buy a practice drum pad ...what brand is the one in the demo? it looks like a good one
It’s a fantastic pad- it’s called the Chopping Block from Revolution Drum.
@@DimitriFantini cool- thanks ~!
That background music during the exercise reminds me of Ren and Stimpy for some reason lmao and it goes perfectly with the exercise
😂😂😂😂
Where did you get that practice pad from? Thanks.
Is there a music sheet for the whole practice?
First day ever and I got up to 100bpm (level 6). I only couldn’t do level 7 because it’s hard for me to read it. Will be practicing with this though. I love it!
You got this!
is there anyway to get the exercise chart into pdf to print it out?
same pattern on double bass?
day I don’t know: 200bpm
Yes!!!!
Started at 90 BPM. I will practice this every day for about 30 mins and see where we go from here.
Came back next day and realize I can do 110 BPM
Nice!!! If you have it perfect, don’t even speed up! Just keep repeating it at that tempo until it’s second nature.

I’m so glad to hear that!
140 bpm 11/1/24 Thanks!
you could technically do this for foot practice too right?
Absolutely
I am 12 years.Mostly my limiti is 70 bpm.but Iam trying to surpass it 😊😊😊😊
I took this video and added 120 and 130. And I guess 140 is my current limit. Weirdly I feel tension in my left rear shoulder/triceps area.
make sure you’re not holding your elbows out or back behind you, even a little.
@@DimitriFantiniI guess this helped but I am already on 160 and this first comment was month ago! Onto 170! BUT still left hand doesn’t work as right…
where can I find this pdf sheet
When I click the blueprint System link, I get a 'page not found'.
fixed the link in the description!
What metronome are you using ?
I made this track custom just for the video!
You still make it look too easy.

Haha your teacher has good advice! I used to brush my teeth left handed, vacuum and use a mouse left handed… it helps!
First time trying this challenge and I’m at level 10! Level 11 had me cramping and messing up 😂
great! make sure to NOT do the level that has you cramping up at all! always back it down to a tempo that keeps you relaxed and playing with great timing :)
Thank you for this video, managed till level 7. (You missed Level 8 :D, THE HIDDEN LEVEL)
I repeated some measures in the middle and didn’t notice until afterwards, we cut that level so it didn’t confuse anyone trying to play along!
Level 1 Black sheep - this or that
hi dimitri can i have sheets.
Not lying. Day 1: 160-180 BPM Still gonna grind it out so it's perfected 1000% before moving to that dreadful 200. My right hand refuses to loosen up
You’ve got this! Just keep practicing and if it’s not relaxed, back it back down!
the bg music is way too funny
Im at level 7900 i dont need hands to do it

keep it up!
Let’s try cause
Day1- fastest: 70 bpm

Day2-fastest: 90 bpm (that’s so exciting!!)
