Yeah, SOMEBODY got inside and saw it wasn't worth the fix so they haphazardly slapped it back together and sold it. Or the mechanic just threw it back together to give it back to the owner, who in turn sold it knowing it was shot. BTW, love your videos. You have a wealth of knowledge, but even moreso, you have a great demeanor and patience that is evident in your videos. Good teacher brother!
Great video - coupled with "I Fix It All" video, which actually references this video, full confidence can be gained to tackle what is actually a complex project, and save a huge amount of money repairing your own transaxles!!!
I have a older john deere L130 Tractor with hydro trans. It never performed as well as I needed and I replaced it with a another tractor and parked the old john deere for years. When I had time to researched about the transmission decided it wasn't worth the money or labor to miss with it and tried to give it away ( nobody would take it). So as last ditch effort I changed the oil to 5w50. Now many years 12 years it final runs great. All the power I needed much better than when it was new. I found out through research that John Deere to save money didn't fill with transmission manufacturer recomended oil to save money, they used standard 30w oil instead of higher grade fluid 5w50 . I almost replace transmission $1200. Thanks John Deere.
They make rebuild kits for these between $300 and $350 that has the two hydro motors, pump housings, seals and everything you need for the hydro mechanical side, not counting things like the drive gears and outside fan and pulley, even comes with a gallon of fluid.
I watched your video, I have a trans of a kubota zero turn that leaks, I thought I would have it re-built you showed wear damage inside the trans. This was was your friends trans. You mentioned his best bet is to purchase another trans. Your video was helpful, thank you for the video.
Great video man, interesting how many parts were altered in that pump... I actually bought a slide tool from harbor freight and boy was that a good investment time wise...I rebuild lots of EZT transmissions now that most won't with a very good success rate.... mostly center sections... Keep up the very informative videos.....🙂🙃
Looks like some shade tree mechanic was in there and just halfway patched it up to sell the tractor to me. Thanks for sharing Bob. Have a great weekend!!
Silly question, but if a guy wanted to replace his zt 2200 hydros, could he replace them with zt 2800 hydros? The mounting tabs, hubs, and linkages other than the parking brake seem to be the same but not having them side by side, it's hard to tell. Any info would be appreciated
Troy built used to be good long lasting pieces of equipment but that has sure changed. Couple years ago I got a new troy built blower that developed carb trouble after about 10 hours of use. Because it was under warranty I had a new carb put on no charge. Then that went bad . Had an older small engine guy work on it & he said this is junk.
Have a zt3100. Loss of power due to cooling fan hitting battery and acid everywhere. Overheated transmission. Long story short got it all back together and now I have 50% power from that hydro-gear under load. I've bled it and done everything I could possibly do to fix. Any idea what it could be? I'm going to pull it sort and see what I can find but not sure what I'm looking for. TIA
A new unit is almost $850. I would say it would be cheaper to rebuild it rather than replace it. I am working on the same unit for a friend and need to go the cheapest route for his small business.
I have watched this video before and now I have the same one. The only issue I have with this one is the seal that is behind that brake sprocket. I was able to find the kit number through hyper gear though. I should be able to pull that seal and put the new one in without removing the transmission and replace the sprocket and c clip
I rebuilt my transmissions, bought new pumps kits . sanded the revolver barrels 400 up to 600 grit. still does not pull/work correctly. But one thing I did notice when I had them apart. I have two 7 barrel revolvers in my hydros. I've watched a few of these videos, Every one I've watched, I see a 7 barrel and a 5 barrel in their hydros. Do you think that it could be my issue ?
This a great video! I have a cheap zero with a ZC-Dubb-3D8C-2DPX and only has 114 hours on it but it has gotten weak on hills and gets weaker each time and I can hear a whine. I am great with engines but never worked on these? Is it rebuildable and worth it? A new one is $800. Thanks for the video.
Twice? I’m on rebuild #3 of my left unit. I get a year out of it but both of my yards are crazy steep and I run tire chains. The right side is original 2009. Hour meter quit years ago.
Is a transmission worth rebuilding ? it depends on the price of a new one and, IF you rebuild it, you know it will be done right. Not like them, John Queer mechanics that put 5W30 oil in a hydrostatic transmission.
Can you tell me if the bypass pin the center section - is the pin normally inside the center section for normal tractor use or sticking out for normal tractor use. (whichever the opposite is that will be the free wheeling mode.) Thank you.
I have a Question, I have rebuild my transmission twice, and I still cannot get to work. I have rejust the handles and nothing. I was wondering do you have any Ideas what is going on.
I replaced my left hand unit, I might try to repair the original unit, looks like a real challenge! I think it got wet internally, it then overheated !
The guy who torn this thing down watching right now with a big laugh. The seller also is probably whispering “sucker”. I on the other hand, I am pissed at both. Hope the mechanic will be banned from fixing things. Hope the seller will get sued. These two people are bad people. Meaners….

Great video, after pecking for about 20 minutes I made a slide hammer like yours took less than 5 minutes to pull it, thanks for the tip

very true !! some videos are sooo hard to watch , they just ramble on about useless information . Drives me nutz.. like this guy !!

Just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Much appreciated.

this is 100% true. ive was told this right from Tuff torq rep. Robert HydroHouse Spring green Wi.

Where?

Love it, i am having some problem with mine. I’m looking forward on doing mine this winter when it gets cooler outside. Thanks
Thanks. This is reality, good call DW6

New trans is almost $1000.00. You can rebuild it for around $350.00. Go for it
Looks like some shade tree mechanic was in there and just halfway patched it up to sell the tractor to me. Thanks for sharing Bob. Have a great weekend!!
I wonder if the guy who was in this hydro before will see this video, and hope no one finds out it was him.
I like your slide grip tool
Have you ever put one of these back together with new pumps and it still wouldn't work after warmed up
You have to bleed the air out of the system before it will work.
very helpful video thanks. having trouble with a drive on my zero turn. Cox Cruiser Australian Made
Great video, very knowledgeable on these transaxles
Can you drop a link for a breakdown of these and where to get parts?

I have this same unit and tractor ZTR 50 with 478 hours running good so far. How long have you seen these last? I'm basically flat land.
Never a good sign when someone else has been inside.

Mtd bought them out

Great video on how to’s 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

I was watching to see where to drill a hole for a drain plug to service so it never gets that bad.
Pry or hammer?
You can spend up to the value of the tractor.
Hope he did not pay a lot for that tractor cause if he did he really got screwed. Some sellers are crooks for sure. Thanks for the video
Usually if you have this problem with one side if you see metal shavings then maybe your other side is next ?

If it’s a 2200 then for sure. Does the other side have 2 5 barrels?
This a great video! I have a cheap zero with a ZC-Dubb-3D8C-2DPX and only has 114 hours on it but it has gotten weak on hills and gets weaker each time and I can hear a whine. I am great with engines but never worked on these? Is it rebuildable and worth it? A new one is $800. Thanks for the video.
Did you rebuild it? I’m having similar issues.
Hum... 350.00 in parts to fix, or 1200.00 for a new Transaxial. Tell me how this is a better deal to get a New Transaxial?
Why does the left side all ways goes bad first ????? Can anyone explain or answer ???😢
Why has my left side transmission broken twice, and the right hand side is still original. Look forward to any advice please. Gazz
Same here - can't find any information.
Twice? I’m on rebuild #3 of my left unit. I get a year out of it but both of my yards are crazy steep and I run tire chains. The right side is original 2009. Hour meter quit years ago.
Got a strange problem, looses pressure and wheel slows to a stop.
Then I loosen the bolts on the pump on bottom of them it starts working
Someone did a huge cobble job on that transmission! How expensive is a new unit? Nice video! Roger
A new unit is way too expensive.
$750 for a questionable online refurb “china new” replacement.
Is a transmission worth rebuilding ? it depends on the price of a new one and, IF you rebuild it, you know it will be done right. Not like them, John Queer mechanics that put 5W30 oil in a hydrostatic transmission.

Pin in is engaged out free wheel
Is it worth the trouble on these lower end units to tear the drives off the tractor and changed the oil in them at some point in their life?
I believe yes - but try finding any information on it.
The trans has been lashed up Bob .Someone trying to hide faults.
I think you're right.
Those things look pretty precisely machined so throwing in Chinese washers that look “close enough” just isn’t going to cut it.
Thanks again
Good vid 👌
..... I wonder if Mr. Bean had access to the rest of the tractor ?
I have a Question, I have rebuild my transmission twice, and I still cannot get to work. I have rejust the handles and nothing. I was wondering do you have any Ideas what is going on.
Check valves could be loose or pump or motor gouged up
Did you change the charge pump cover? Might be on backwards.
Is this a 2800 or 3100 or what?
Someone already tried fixing it? Double labor rate day 🤣🤷♂️
How do I get a hold of you
The oil is too thin.
Looks like 5 or 10 weight.
sucks when you think you got a great deal on a mower to find out you were scammed
Sand paper and sand those peaces it be like new
Someone made it so it would move lomg enough to send it down the road. With any luck you buddy will still be right side up on the deal money wise.
I replaced my left hand unit, I might try to repair the original unit, looks like a real challenge! I think it got wet internally, it then overheated !
Hydro pumps and motors are ridiculously expensive and are so unreliable. The last less than 1000 hours?
👍👍
The guy who torn this thing down watching right now with a big laugh.
The seller also is probably whispering “sucker”.
I on the other hand, I am pissed at both.
Hope the mechanic will be banned from fixing things.
Hope the seller will get sued.
These two people are bad people.
Meaners….
feel sorry for your friend... hack job from the seller
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Sorry your buddy got ripped off by Seller.
80 Foot Pounds!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHATEVER!!!! LOL
Ya. Might be 80 inch pounds
You charge your buddy for repairs? Not much of a buddy
Looks like a DIY job to me , junk😢😢
