How do we heal if we don't have that and never really have had it? Trying to navigate mostly on my own and without much support unfortunately.

Grow in your knowlege and understanding about how PTSD effects you so at least you can stop blaming yourself for stuff that seems abnormal for "regular" people but is absolutely normal for victims of Trauma.
For example: 1) PTSD causes changes to the brain and nervous system (literally gives you brain damage) 2) Everybody understands that If you had a broken or injured leg for you it would be normal to walk with a limp while it is normally not normal for uninjured people to walk with a limp. The problem is no one can "see" a brain injury like they see a broken leg. 3) Take comfort in the fact that the brain has plasticity, meaning that it can heal and go back to "normal" just like the broken leg can with the right treatment. 4) There are various treatment options which can be used independently or in combination - one fantastic therapy endorsed by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk and many other professionals is Internal Family Systems (IFS) developed by Richard Schwartz who has been interviewed all over youtube - check out his amazing work. 5) Look for support groups in your area or online 6) Be patient and loving with yourself because not only can you heal PTSD or at least reduce its effects to zero or near zero but also because YOU ARE WORTH IT!

I appreciate Dr. Van der Kolk’s work. He is brilliant. Most therapists go for the easy for them and put you in meds, then it becomes addiction, so they are the ones that mess you up. This is in for humanity.

If we want a different life, we have to be willing to do something differently. We have to take risks that make us uncomfortable. Start by attending church. NOT for the people but to meet the savior who can change us from the inside out. Once we begin to change and become spiritually, healthier, we naturally attract healthier people.

Being alone doesn't work man. For as long as I am in a bad place or around people who hurt me. I have a very hard time thinking strait or having properly sometime I lose control on myself because my fight or flight can be so sensitive sometimes. You need people. You need a good environment and a good support system. Everyone does. But people who are alone and who have been for a long time, are very susestible to trauma. That how it was for me at least. Didn't take many bad things. But having no one there for me when I needed them is what ultimately I think at least led to me getting as bad as I have in the past. I have a better enviroment now but it's unstable and the people untrustworthy. Sometimes we can only try to make it better though and hope that what we can do and what we do do is enough to change things for the better. Just know that people are here for ya man. Make sure that if you can't find good people in one place you don't stop looking. It can be hard at times when life is empty and all you feel is the heart wrenching pain of being alone and sad and feeling like a failure. Just know that it's not your fault man. Know that you can always make it better. But for me personally I have to make what I was surrounded by better before I could do anything on myself. A positive environment is all anyone really needs, and genuine support of course. That just been my experience at least. Good luck man. Love ya. No homo.

Dr van der Kolk thank you for your work...may i add also that wiyh PTSD a core issue is that the traumatic events which induces PTSD changes your UNDERSTANDING of the world which is why it has a profound effect on overall cognition. I have had PTSD for 18 years and have analysed this issue for most of them years and i now know that it is because the events affected and changed my UNDERSTANDING of the world....the traumatic events changed my understanding of the world to a horrible cold place and it was only when i realised i have to change my understanding of the world through new experiences that teach the world is a secure place (the new experiences have to be stringer than the trauma events though) that the PTSD started changing. PTSD is a virus on our understanding of the world, what eradicates it is feeding new experiences that change our understanding from a trauma based one to a secure based one.
