They all came out to see it for themselves and stood guard so I could back up and then turn around. I'll never forget this.
As someone who has grown up and still lives in NZ, most gangs over here are actually pretty chill, at least in public, they can be annoying at times, if ya don't like loud noise, but a lot of them are actually quite friendly people. We've even got some that make lunches for schools and keep drugs out of certain communities. Most of them are related also, as the locals have very big families, so sometimes it's just a ton of uncles and cousins and such. Not as bad as gangs around most of the world, and are pretty friendly, but there are the exceptions to that rule, but most gangs won't bother anyone except rival gangs.
Yes, gang members are usually human. Humans tend to have families. That doesn't excuse their criminal behavior. All gangs are garbage. Stop defending them.
Thank you, this guys is making it seem like it's a criminal pad everywhere, but what he forgets to mention is that they support a lot of initiatives for people around Aotearoa. They're also citizens that have families here, so they tend to take care of the communities they are from. They won't bother people unless you fk with them, owe them money, or owe them blood debt. They're generally loud and noisy, sometimes violent towards their own, but they leave a lot of people alone. It's the new gangs with no roots here that are the problem because they have no issue with shooting up whatever area because they have no ties anywhere.
We spent a month in N few years ago and never saw one gang, despite touring extensively in both North and South Islands. Had a great time among the friendliest people on the planet!
Gangs in NZ serve a purpose. They're not just organised crime. In isolated communities they are the social club and the community support that people don't get from the government or the police.
We have ‘gangs’ like this in Australia. At Christmas time they get together, hundreds and hundreds and ride their motorbikes in a big group to deliver Christmas presents underprivileged children. It is a fantastic sight to see.
It's funny, I remember a thing years back where there was a natural disaster in Japan I believe, and the Yakuza were the first to rush out and offer aid to the people with food, clothing, water, and other necessities, long before the Japanese government actually came out to help. Sure they extort people but at least they have some kind of moral code, it's honestly better than insurance here in America lol Insurance here will take thousands upon thousands of dollars from you every month and only cover part of damages and only after you spend a certain amount of money, they don't care in the slightest. My dad worked in New Zealand for 9 months. He bought a car in his first month there and it got stolen but 3 weeks later they found it in an airport with a gang sign in the backseat.
I lived next door to some gangsters in NZ, they are intimidating to look at but don't draw attention needlessly. But they looked after the old folk, did their lawns, no late parties. The younger ones or the kids aspiring to being a gangster can be a nuisance, but they tend to keep them in check. Gang vs gang is pretty scary to witness though, which is where the majority of the problems are.
For the most part its the juvie prospects that cause all the trouble. Trying to prove their worth to the gangs by doing dumb shit and getting people hurt

IF they commit crimes. If they are protecting themselves and their families from false and dark governments that threatens their land and culture thats another story, isnt it.
Yall clearly misunderstood the motorcycle mention. He wasn't saying their crime is riding loud motorcycles, he's saying they don't care so much that they don't even try to hide. They'll let you know they're coming and wear their uniforms openly.
It's not that he said the motorcycles were crimes, it's the way he said it the sheer snobbery in his tone of voice, the judgemental attitude and implying every biker is in gangs.
I did not know wearing uniforms is illegal🤣 or riding motorcycles. In fact, what bothers some, is people gathering, which could make them resilient to being abused, right?
Like most people have said, if you don't go out of your way to start trouble then gangs here usually just mind their own business. I work at a hospital and there were a bunch of gang members hanging around because one of their senior members were sick. The security at the hospital reached out to the gang and said they left a whole load of rubbish around where they've been hanging out. When one of the elder members of the gang heard this, he made them go back and clean it up lol.

In Mexico they have their own organization, killing all the foreigners that make good business, and making the whole population become stupid drug addicts. The bars may look fancy, yet they all belong to the mafia. And their stategy seems to work out very well... isn’t it ?
Motorcycle gangs have definitely been involved in organised crime. They were certainly very dangerous in USA for a long time. Maybe not so much these days, and certainly not compared to the Cartel, but still enough to be taken seriously by the FBI. I know that motocycle clubs in Australia have been banned because of how much of a problem they were causing (or at least the '1%').
Most gangs won’t bother you in NZ. There’s been a wave of youth crime but that probably happens everywhere. The patched ones are usually cool it’s the prospects of them you gotta look out for. Young ones looking to prove themselves, usually doing bum jobs for the gangs to earn a patch. Unless you’re lucky enough to inherit a patch, you’ve gotta earn it by doing bum jobs(bein a bitch), doing time (taking the wrap) or getting a hiding (beat down). Like the mafia, being in the gangs usually means your whole family is involved too. It’s possible for someone born into the gang to go a different path but as I’m sure you know, being a product of your environment is easier than forging a new path.
That's why I am proud to be indian, in near 90's Mumbai was city of underworld mafia's but then government gave power to Mumbai police and then encounter rate was increased each single police have done 100ths of encounters and now Mumbai is one of the safest city in India❤

Most countries have these sorts of people and you don't get mixed up with them. They are large noisy motorcycle clubs .There are the notorious obvious ones to avoid but there are others less well known
That's mostly cause of the way they were formed, when the Maori and other islander population got colonised and had their dignity, religion and idea of family and tribes ruined the gangs started to form to hold on to their roots, culture and creating a family or tribe to belong to

No they are not. They are completely out of control and dangerous. Our government has been way to soft on them and it is showing.
Yes, gang members are usually human. Humans tend to have families. That doesn't excuse their criminal behavior. All gangs are garbage. Stop defending them.
Are they chill?
Thank you, this guys is making it seem like it's a criminal pad everywhere, but what he forgets to mention is that they support a lot of initiatives for people around Aotearoa. They're also citizens that have families here, so they tend to take care of the communities they are from. They won't bother people unless you fk with them, owe them money, or owe them blood debt. They're generally loud and noisy, sometimes violent towards their own, but they leave a lot of people alone. It's the new gangs with no roots here that are the problem because they have no issue with shooting up whatever area because they have no ties anywhere.

And country towns like Bombala welcome them with annual events. They even have permanent signs up welcoming motorcycles.

It's funny, I remember a thing years back where there was a natural disaster in Japan I believe, and the Yakuza were the first to rush out and offer aid to the people with food, clothing, water, and other necessities, long before the Japanese government actually came out to help. @@Gerald0613 my man, you haven't heard of underbelly or that hang leader that got sniped dead in public last year? Skinheads walk around NZ because they can. They absolutely cannot here in Aus
I’ve lived in New Zealand most of my life and can count on one hand how many times I’ve seen gang members. They’re not that common, at least where I live.
As a Mexican I sadly and paradoxically laugh at the concept some countries have of "organised crime" 😂😢
who donyou think could won between those 4?
Mexican cartels vs Russian Chechen Mafia vs the Taliban?
In Mexico they have their own organization, killing all the foreigners that make good business, and making the whole population become stupid drug addicts. The bars may look fancy, yet they all belong to the mafia. And their stategy seems to work out very well... isn’t it ?
you cannot have organized crime and not be part of the state
it's definitely a different perspective brother. violence to some means being loud on your motorcycle and not bugging you
Motorcycle gangs have definitely been involved in organised crime. They were certainly very dangerous in USA for a long time. Maybe not so much these days, and certainly not compared to the Cartel, but still enough to be taken seriously by the FBI. I know that motocycle clubs in Australia have been banned because of how much of a problem they were causing (or at least the '1%').
I lived in New Zealand my whole life and never seen a gang, it just depends where you live they aren’t everywhere

@@Alexis-ei7ku Is there homosexuality involved? A lot of talk about bums and b!tches
who says they’re bad? they are members of a motorcycle club.. that’s what the m.c stands for. 🙄🤪
That's why I am proud to be indian, in near 90's Mumbai was city of underworld mafia's but then government gave power to Mumbai police and then encounter rate was increased each single police have done 100ths of encounters and now Mumbai is one of the safest city in India❤
as someone who lives in Dunedin, New Zealand, yes, gangs are really very common here but you will rarely see any crime going on in public. Some gangs even talk to random strangers in public like Haux Rides (yes I've had a small talk with them) but don't try to talk with any gangs you see in the public because all of them aren't nice lol. They're pretty harmless unless you don't go and annoy them. Pretty interesting to see how so many people don't know about this!
We had a bunch of gang memebers fight on my dads front lawn, couple people got stabbed just another day in west auckland lol
As a ex gang member its like you dont piss us off but also be feared by us something like that not always the fighting like you said i agree tho not all gang members stay public like that
Dunedin aye, ha not exactly in the a hot spot of gang assholdom.

That's shocking!
Why aren't they stopped by the police?
Police have no power?
@@aadtie5633 the gangs probably have guns and the police dont lmao
I appreciate how they clearly signal who they are. Makes it easy for normal people to avoid them.
Most countries have these sorts of people and you don't get mixed up with them. They are large noisy motorcycle clubs .There are the notorious obvious ones to avoid but there are others less well known
It's 'advertisement'...for 'admirers' like you 😄
That's mostly cause of the way they were formed, when the Maori and other islander population got colonised and had their dignity, religion and idea of family and tribes ruined the gangs started to form to hold on to their roots, culture and creating a family or tribe to belong to
Like the yakuza I think this just shows they are just playing “bad” and don’t really do much.
Actually, most of them are normal people.!
As a Kiwi I dont have issues with the gangs I do have issues with the prospects who want to be in gangs they are a serious problem.

You can hear them pay taxes from miles away
Wahahhaa oz can relate 😂😂😂😂😂
Seriously tho, the worst mistake you can make around these guys is calling them gangs, Just refer to them as Clubs, Motorcycle Clubs.
I live in N.Z and each gang wear their colours. They don't call themselves Clubs.
@@mahoradewes3212 Well thats nice, Here in America. Where Bike CLUBS started, they prefer not to be called gangs, because that puts them on a federal list immediately vs documented proof. Theres a whole History around them and a Lot of the ones in NZ and around the world originated here. They are a social club until you have proof a crime has been committed.
Agreed. And they have this in a lot of places, east coast, LA, Texas…not unique to NZ and nothing to be afraid of. While it is loud and they are sometimes in the way I like seeing that so many people are enjoying time and traveling together and they are usually focused on safely getting all their members from one location to another.

I’ve lived in New Zealand for 14 years (moved here from NYC) and motorcycle “gangs” are common, but you won’t have any trouble with them unless you’re looking for trouble. I wave and smile, they wave and smile back. I love motorcycles and have talked with many of them about their bikes, I’ve never had a problem with them. A lot of them will stop to help if your car breaks down (I had that happen twice). Of course, like anything else, there is always that one rotten apple in the basket. I lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan, both places were far more dangerous than anywhere in New Zealand. I’d tell anyone thinking of visiting here: come on down! The flight takes forever, but you’ll love it here. Don’t be surprised if you decide to live here, that’s what happened to me.
So who do they victimise and target then if they are that good around people??
@@treeoftrees7523 other rival members and their families who are involved in criminal activities, drugs etc. New Zealand government and other governments around the world violate basic human rights and are involved in crime on a global scale but somehow aren’t a criminal enterprise 🤔
@@treeoftrees7523 they are NOT good people, they can do acts of kindness, but that does not make one good. but the only way they can exist is if they keep their business away from good people. and they do a pretty good job of that. so its gang policy to act straight around good people, but really they are all rotten inside, you cant be in an organized crime circuit and not be rotten. but they pretend to be nice and rarely hurt normal good people so they get away with existing.
