You can backup a save file right before you attempt the black knight fight, if you fail to get the item drop you can just replace the save file with the backup and keep trying the fight until the desired item drops.
On my first ever playthrough, I got the Black Knight Sword and a Black Knight Shield in my first two Black Knight fights, but because I didn’t know they were good weapons, and because I got lost, I ended up starting a new game and deleting that old save file It wasn’t until I beat the Moonlight Butterfly on my followup playthrough that I looked up better weapons and found videos talking about how the Black Knight equipment is the best equipment in the game It’s always the noobs who have no clue what the fuck they’re doing that have the best luck, then throw it away
I'm on my first blind playthrough right now, and didn't realize how insanely lucky I am. I've played the majority of the game as hollow with zero humanity (because I haven't figure out how to git gud) and got the BKH, BKGS, and 2 (two!) BKSs. The BKS+5 is truly a beautiful thing to behold and is probably the only reason I was able to beat O&S with my sloppy play.
and I got a BKH with small humanity, but I died and backup with backup-file and I lost my BKH 😢 And I'm realy shocked how you are doing pareing on easy. This teqnique don't work when I try to do 😢😢😢 Sorry for my English.
Item discovery (higher drop chances) has a HARD cap at 10 humanity. Meaning you won't get any higher chances over 10 humanity. Also the human form doesn't affect item discovery.
They are certainly formidable weapons - but I prefer the claymore, which is a guaranteed item, has low stat requirements, an outstanding move set and can be buffed with resins/ spells. The major advantage of black knight weapons is the fact that they can be fully upgraded by O&S, but then again so can any weapon, if you’re willing to kill a NPC- and know what you’re doing in general. By endgame, the damage output of a Claymore on a quality build is incredible. Having said all of that, a black knight weapon will certainly make life easier for a new player- particularly when you consider the bonus damage to demons. I love your videos - please keep up the wonderful work! PS - Havel following you that far was hilarious!

It totally counters 2 of the more challenging enemies in the game: the snake warriors in Sen’s fortress and the dark wraiths in New Londo. Overall, I prefer the Claymore, due to its reliability & versatility: I find killing faster enemies, like dogs, with a zweihander awkward - but the claymore handles everything quite well.
My current (first) playthrough has been made SO much easier by the fact I have the BKGS. When I fought him, he somehow fell off his tower while I was backing away down the stairs! Got the greatsword without even having to kill him. Beginner’s luck, I guess.
A while back I tried to check out what all the gossip around the BKH was about, and I wasn't really ready for the results. It's fast, has range and hits like a truck. With the elite knight set I managed to down the Capra demon on my first try within 5 seconds of entering the arena. It literally feels like cheating.
The Black (Dark?)Knight EVERYTHING is the best gear and weaponry in DS1 hands down, end of conversation, so many problems solved. I am almost finished on NG+ and I have been using the Black/Dark Knight everything, with the exception of a set of Black Leather armor, for quicker movement and its leveled to 10. Great video!
Seems I was lucky then, because I got my Black Knight Greatsword on my first try, with zero humanity and being hollow. Liked it a lot and used it until the end. I asbolutely love the heavy attack with it. I trained on some oppponents to beat them with, which requires a good timing, as its buildup is SO painfully slow. But It's really fun to see them flying if it connects. 😄 In some cases I used some other weapon to go along with, because I feel that Astorias is quite hard with the Black Knight sword as it is so slow. 😄 But so far Astorias is about the only one that I can't handle with it.
OMG i just started my souls adventure, and i managed to get bks by falling into abbys when doging his attack and he just folowed my steps. Then i play with it and wonder why everyone says its such a hard game, now i realizee how lucky i was 😅

Get the Black Knight Halberd by grabbing the master key and going down from the shrine right after you got there. Pass the valley of drakes and go up, lit the fire and beat the Black Knight ... you get a 20% chance of dropping without humanity. If it does not drop create a new Character. Each try costs you about 8 minutes if you don't die. Do not backup your save file and cheat your way xD
Great guide, I remember back in my first ever ds1 run I used the black knight sword to defeat ornstein and smough after having much trouble with them. All the black knight weapons are really fun but my favorite is the greataxe. You can also get it somewhat early but you have to go to the bottom of the catacombs and it’s pretty annoying, especially if he doesn’t drop it. I’ve mostly used it in NG+ because the respawning axe knight in the kiln is by far the easiest way to get it. Also something I usually do at the start of every run is go down to new londo, use the master key to get to the valley of drakes, grab some souls laying about while running to darkroot, then get the grass crest shield and kill the black knight by knocking him off the ledge after popping my humanities. If I’m lucky then I’ve got arguably the best weapon in the game within 10 minutes, and after that it’s just a matter of getting 18 dex and 22 str to two-hand it.
I defeated the Black Knight using Gravity when I lured him to his death in the chasm located in the cracked staircase railings. Those armored lummoxes are so simple yet so deadly too.

I love its R2. when i replayed it the undead burg black knight dropped it and i jumped out my chair XD
For those that want to win against the first dark knight(the one that protects the ring), you can lure him by that side of the stairs where you fall, you jump down there when he isnreally close to you and if you have luck, he will jump too, you will still get the loot
after killing the second black knigth, he gave me a "black knight sword" (wich is really a greathsword) and I used it for the rest of the entire game and in the NG+'s (yes, the knight in the stair tower)
I got the same thing. I got the Black Knight Ultra Greatsword last time but I accidentally hit Andre so I had to restart again and I lost the Ultra Greatsword. But at least I got its lesser variant back from the Black Knight in the Undead Burg.

I got this so early so i was exploring the undeadburg then come and stumble this tall knight i thought he was an npc and approach him bro started chasing me and somehow bugged out and drops the sword pretty lucky i guess
Everyone hates on the black knight great sword as being the worst but it's the best one for staggering enemies and has decent range really makes the O&S fight easy because you're able to get 3 hits on ornstein and stagger him on the second first time playing the game and I second tried the fight because I was stupid and didn't respect rolling and went in with 3 estus flask on ng+ I also second tried it but I did go with powered up ornstein instead of smough because I did smough last time
i watch your whole playthrough and i was kinda jealous that u have a bks. but i made a new character few days ago "thef" class to be more specific, i was so luck that i got 2 bkgs and 2 bks without even trying . The game was so easy that I first try every boss

Its a stab, but after the stab the character does some weird animation, thats not practical when fighting. The STRONG ATTACK also charges for too long. Claymore is better than this, or even the Katanas ( with their stab strong attack ) , especially the long one . Or the greatsword __________ So when you said you like the Black Knigh sowrd movement set, then what did you mean ??? Because i cant see anything good when it comesto the strong attack. Yes the damage stats are good but the strong attack ruined it for me... it also takes way to long to charge the attack and then that weird sword waving after the stab is done.

I got the BKGS after so many attempts in that tower I have to stop playing and do again Got the drop while being hollow with zero humanity And got in to a white glowing sign on the floor and some player got me ton of Great hero soul. I am now lvl56 with 74 GHS to spare

I think I'm the luckiest person, because on my new first playthroug on my PS4 DS1 I (just now) I received on the same run the black knight halbeard, sword, and great sword. (+ in that playthrough I got gravelorded and found a red double humanity crab, and found 2 twinkling titanites from the first crystal lizard that I used to +2 the BK Sword ) Idk if Im lucky af, or Fromsoftware patched stuff to make everything appear 100%
I'll be honest I love the knight set but when I got artorios sword I fell in love with and the armour but in the end game area I farmed for dear life and the greatsword for the black Knight and the halberd is just ace 🙏🏿💯
I don't think being human increases drop rate, unless I missed something? The Item Discovery didn't go up when I restored humanity. The wiki seems to insist it doesn't happen as well.
You can make the first Black Knight fall off a ledge and you get sword guaranteed that little ledge on the stairs where you go after that Taurus demon. You drop Down there the black knight does it too but he. Falls and dies

I got the black knight sword off the first knight then the shield off the GS black knight in the tower. It seems the game wants me to sword and board thus time around lmoa
You can literally set yourself up better by spending 3 minutes at the start going and getting the gurantees Gravelord Sword in the catacombs. Better than all the black knight weapons aside from maybe the halberd, and you dont have to worry about rng. Even if its your first time and first game if you follow a guide it shiuldnt take you more than an hour, and if youre a veteran it shouldnt take you more than 10 minutes.
I thought it's a guaranteed drop form The undead parish tower black knight because in every playthrough I got the bk great sword from him. Is it only me or sheer luck

I play on PS3 and play bandit car.and first 3 black knights i killed i get all 3 weapons but i played with at least 10 humanities and in human form! Dont forget.
Got them all, but I think the sword is good, but inferior to the others. The sword have bad reach, and not enough speed to justify the lower damage output. You only get faster if you invested also in dexterity, which won't scale much for damage, so kinda disappointing.
@@HowToSouls What I'm saying is that for a sword could be a little faster, it's somewhere between the longsword and the greatsword in terms of speed. I think the BK greatsword is little better for the base game, the halberd is way better (at least when you need both speed and range), I liked the black knight sword, just got a little disspointed when I tried to use it agaisnt kalameet and artorias (could not meet the required speed or reach for those fights).

There’s more in the catacombs and tomb of the giants but peril. Might just be better to either restart and try again or just use a different weapon this playthrough

Take an advice from veteran: There is no "tutorial" to parrying. Everyone have different reaction time so all you need to do is to just practice. By far the easiest enemies to parry are Lothric Knights (sword and shield variant). Wait for thier basic combo, get the rhythm - repeat, but this time try to parry SECOND attack. Not the first one. With this you'll get more comfortable with parrying. After that it's all practice with different attacks, enemies and shield types. I'm not kidding. Souls games are built that way, there's no shame in getting hit or dying. Practice make a master. Hope this helped and let's shove some scythes trough enemy chests XD
@@sirith9157 ive already tried something, where i go through the entire game with a cheat that allows me to not take damage but still get hit so that failing the parries aren't too punishing, but i also know that i failed when i get hit. and for each enemy i try to get consistent. only the Ringed City DLC left. anyway, when i commented i was looking for more of a "tip" that would help me get consistent. for example, what helped me get better at parrying in DSR was a simple tip "Press the parry button as soon as the wind up animation is over and their weapon is going towards you" (i can parry i'd say most enemies pretty consistently now, including the black knights, maybe except the axe knight because i don't encounter one very often) or something like that i just thought there'd be something like that for DS3 as well
@@woolsword8200 well, the "hit parry button when enemy weapon fly towards you" is a good description. But I would go with "look at enemy HANDS", not the weapon. I know it sounds wierd, but just trust me. Enemy hands (or should I say arms) goes way ahead thier weapons and are closer to thier bodies so you see what's happening instead if fallowing weapon somewhere 5 meters away. Honestly, there's no "easy trick" to parrying just as there's no easy way to.. Well, do anything in this game. I'm not saying it's Prepare your Anus kind of game but it's not walk in the park as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be edgy souls hypocrite with "GID GUD" mentality. But, well... That's what all of these games are about after all. I struggled like hell with parrying in souls for years. It's mostly fear comming from getting hit. Try to switch your metality. Don't think of estus as "how many mistakes I can make" but "how aggressive I can be". Estus becomes more of spare hp instead of your mistake measuring. Turn off cheats, fight enemies normally and when occasion present itself - go for the parry with full confidence. If it lands? Great! It didn't? Maybe too fast? Maybe a little late? You won't die at first hit so why not try again? Sorry for all that preaching 😅

@@sirith9157 the reason i use cheats is because its a lot less punishing, especially if its for example against Blackflame Friede, she has 3 phases and it takes a long time to get to the third, and her third phase is probably the hardest to parry thanks for the tips about looking at the arm instead of the weapon, i'll try that. idk if that applies to DS3 though. also, i don't know if there even is a way to check if an enemy is parryable, and with cheats attempts at parrying none parryable enemies are way less punishing, though i was planning on turning cheats off once i go through the entire game once with it about the "you won't die at first hit"... yeah idk about the DLCs lol. and lastly thank you for not being like "GIT GUD" hate when ppl do that when i actually need help lol

The best way to get the black knight weapons is to do a sorceries only run and then the game will throw virtually all of them at you.

Kinda stupid the black knights don’t have guaranteed drops considering they don’t respawn.
I just learned how to parry the Anor Londo Silver Knights, so this will be a fun side quest to try.

Got the black night sword from the first guy, on my first playthrough and then was like oh cant use it so i forgot aboutnit, used the drake sword for half the game and then saw i had it realized op m finished the game with it,

I got this so early so i was exploring the undeadburg then come and stumble this tall knight i thought he was an npc and approach him bro started chasing me and somehow bugged out and drops the sword pretty lucky i guess
guess what, none of them dropped the sword, i'm so lucky
Everyone hates on the black knight great sword as being the worst but it's the best one for staggering enemies and has decent range really makes the O&S fight easy because you're able to get 3 hits on ornstein and stagger him on the second first time playing the game and I second tried the fight because I was stupid and didn't respect rolling and went in with 3 estus flask on ng+ I also second tried it but I did go with powered up ornstein instead of smough because I did smough last time

i watch your whole playthrough and i was kinda jealous that u have a bks. but i made a new character few days ago "thef" class to be more specific, i was so luck that i got 2 bkgs and 2 bks without even trying . The game was so easy that I first try every boss

I just spend time to get the sword only to find out how its STRONG ATTACK is bad. Its a stab, but after the stab the character does some weird animation, thats not practical when fighting. The STRONG ATTACK also charges for too long.
Claymore is better than this, or even the Katanas ( with their stab strong attack ) , especially the long one . Or the greatsword

Yes the damage stats are good but the strong attack ruined it for me... it also takes way to long to charge the attack and then that weird sword waving after the stab is done.

I think I'm the luckiest person, because on my new first playthroug on my PS4 DS1 I (just now) I received on the same run the black knight halbeard, sword, and great sword. (+ in that playthrough I got gravelorded and found a red double humanity crab, and found 2 twinkling titanites from the first crystal lizard that I used to +2 the BK Sword )

I'll be honest I love the knight set but when I got artorios sword I fell in love with and the armour but in the end game area I farmed for dear life and the greatsword for the black Knight and the halberd is just ace 🙏🏿💯
I just finished my first play through with the black knight halberd. It's basically easy mode.
I don't think being human increases drop rate, unless I missed something? The Item Discovery didn't go up when I restored humanity. The wiki seems to insist it doesn't happen as well.

You can make the first Black Knight fall off a ledge and you get sword guaranteed that little ledge on the stairs where you go after that Taurus demon. You drop Down there the black knight does it too but he. Falls and dies
It's not guaranteed to drop. But this is a great method yes!

I got the black knight sword off the first knight then the shield off the GS black knight in the tower. It seems the game wants me to sword and board thus time around lmoa

You can literally set yourself up better by spending 3 minutes at the start going and getting the gurantees Gravelord Sword in the catacombs. Better than all the black knight weapons aside from maybe the halberd, and you dont have to worry about rng.
Even if its your first time and first game if you follow a guide it shiuldnt take you more than an hour, and if youre a veteran it shouldnt take you more than 10 minutes.
BKS is my go to no matter what-once I get it in the beginning I already know I’ve broke the game.

@@byssmal both are so similar, go halberd if you have a more even strength and dex spread, and scythe if you are more dex?

I play on PS3 and play bandit car.and first 3 black knights i killed i get all 3 weapons but i played with at least 10 humanities and in human form! Dont forget.

Got them all, but I think the sword is good, but inferior to the others. The sword have bad reach, and not enough speed to justify the lower damage output. You only get faster if you invested also in dexterity, which won't scale much for damage, so kinda disappointing.
What are you comparing it to?
@@HowToSouls What I'm saying is that for a sword could be a little faster, it's somewhere between the longsword and the greatsword in terms of speed. I think the BK greatsword is little better for the base game, the halberd is way better (at least when you need both speed and range), I liked the black knight sword, just got a little disspointed when I tried to use it agaisnt kalameet and artorias (could not meet the required speed or reach for those fights).
@@HowToSouls Well, I stand corrected. Just tested on a new playthrought and worked very well. Just don't know if that be the case fot the DLC. Either way, great choice, even beat my previous time record. Just beat base game in 08 hours and 30 minutes with the black knight sword.

There’s more in the catacombs and tomb of the giants but peril. Might just be better to either restart and try again or just use a different weapon this playthrough

are you planning on ever making a DS3 parry tutorial?
Take an advice from veteran:
There is no "tutorial" to parrying. Everyone have different reaction time so all you need to do is to just practice. By far the easiest enemies to parry are Lothric Knights (sword and shield variant). Wait for thier basic combo, get the rhythm - repeat, but this time try to parry SECOND attack. Not the first one. With this you'll get more comfortable with parrying.
After that it's all practice with different attacks, enemies and shield types. I'm not kidding. Souls games are built that way, there's no shame in getting hit or dying. Practice make a master.

@@sirith9157 ive already tried something, where i go through the entire game with a cheat that allows me to not take damage but still get hit so that failing the parries aren't too punishing, but i also know that i failed when i get hit.
and for each enemy i try to get consistent.
only the Ringed City DLC left.
anyway, when i commented i was looking for more of a "tip" that would help me get consistent.
for example, what helped me get better at parrying in DSR was a simple tip "Press the parry button as soon as the wind up animation is over and their weapon is going towards you" (i can parry i'd say most enemies pretty consistently now, including the black knights, maybe except the axe knight because i don't encounter one very often) or something like that
i just thought there'd be something like that for DS3 as well
@@woolsword8200 well, the "hit parry button when enemy weapon fly towards you" is a good description. But I would go with "look at enemy HANDS", not the weapon. I know it sounds wierd, but just trust me. Enemy hands (or should I say arms) goes way ahead thier weapons and are closer to thier bodies so you see what's happening instead if fallowing weapon somewhere 5 meters away.
Honestly, there's no "easy trick" to parrying just as there's no easy way to.. Well, do anything in this game. I'm not saying it's Prepare your Anus kind of game but it's not walk in the park as well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be edgy souls hypocrite with "GID GUD" mentality. But, well... That's what all of these games are about after all. I struggled like hell with parrying in souls for years. It's mostly fear comming from getting hit. Try to switch your metality. Don't think of estus as "how many mistakes I can make" but "how aggressive I can be". Estus becomes more of spare hp instead of your mistake measuring.
Turn off cheats, fight enemies normally and when occasion present itself - go for the parry with full confidence. If it lands? Great! It didn't? Maybe too fast? Maybe a little late? You won't die at first hit so why not try again?

@@sirith9157 the reason i use cheats is because its a lot less punishing, especially if its for example against Blackflame Friede, she has 3 phases and it takes a long time to get to the third, and her third phase is probably the hardest to parry
thanks for the tips about looking at the arm instead of the weapon, i'll try that. idk if that applies to DS3 though.
also, i don't know if there even is a way to check if an enemy is parryable, and with cheats attempts at parrying none parryable enemies are way less punishing, though i was planning on turning cheats off once i go through the entire game once with it
about the "you won't die at first hit"... yeah idk about the DLCs lol.
