The Cult were an absolutely awesome live show...high energy! Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy have been the dynamic heart of the group from the beginning, creating their signature sound.
This is the reason all of us GenX-ers will be deaf before the age of 50. Music like this is MEANT to be played loud enough to FEEL it. Ive already got the hearing of my 82yo father from years of concert staging and my custom built car stereos😂
The singer is Ian Astbury and he's an amazing frontman, but never seems to be in the discussion about the greatest frontmen of all time. In my opinion, he's right up there with the likes of Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler and Axl Rose to name just a few. He's a true entertainer and Billy Duffy absolutely slays the guitar. Also, The Cult are one of the most underrated bands of the '80s and "Sonic Temple" has to be one of the top ten rock albums from the '80s.
I'm super looking forward to hearing more of their stuff! My hubby said one of the most iconic rock songs ever comes from them, but I've never heard it before.
@@TheCharismaticVoiceYour husband is right and you won't regret hearing more from them. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if they became one of your favorite bands to react to on here, that's how great they're!

Saw the cult a few years ago and Ian threw his tambourine up really high to catch it, but lost it in the lights, it hit him in the face and put a big gash in his face, just kept on rocking with blood pouring all over. So freaking rock!
Saw him Seattle 5 years ago and thought he didn't bust himself in the face but he absolutely wore out and destroyed about 6 tambourines through the show. It was hilarious he just got another one and kept on going.
Yay!!! I L0VE the Cult! I think you will too. Ian Astbury's got a distinctive voice....and just like you know Ian's voice when you hear it, Billy Duffy's guitar riffs arei also uniquely identifiable! Looking forward to you reaction and impressions ☮🖤🎶🎵
This song, amongst all of the 80s metal bands - to me - is the quintessential blues/hair/metal rock that has the growl, the drive, the supreme 4 on the floor straight adrenaline build that just has the great hook you can help but sing and stomp to. It was very common of 80s metal bands to film music videos at arena tour setups, catch it over a few sound checks and youve got a music video. This song, as all the comments before me say, is perfect to blast loud and sing your head off to!
Just saw The Cult a few months ago for the first time since I last saw them in '92. They still kick ass, and Ian's voice is still fantastic. Money well spent!
Dear young miss, I am very very new to this ....whatever?, platform? I have seen some of your videos. Your analysis, of most things, is spot on. My reason to react to you for this particular song, is my great and good friends recent death My friend introduced me to the Cult. I introduced him to Joe Satriani. We both loved Iron Maiden. We survived and helped each other through , honestly, death defying situations. He died of a massive stroke. Ten days younger than myself. I love this song. I loved my bud. Thank you for everything you do.
There was a joke in Canada that Jeff Martin of the Tea Party should have taken that gig since he looks and sounds so much like Jim Morrison already. Apparently Martin hated the comparison.
The Cult are one of those bands that are so great to put on headphones/ear buds and listen to. The production value is epic. The swirling in stereo sounds.
@@stevenporter8740 That bill right there sums up the musical journey The Cult took over the years. Trippy, gothy to start, to Love's swirling, pulsing, dynamic rock, then Rick Rubin turns them into a modern AC/DC for Electric, to this big arena rock flash and strut. I liked them all. Still do.
@@mckinnonkatz24 You are correct- I have owned every album since late 80s, seen them live, met Ian, and continue to love them. Dreamtime even has Native American images on the cover, and "Spiritwalker," one of my favorite songs of theirs, clearly from Native American philosophy. I even have Southern Death Cult album has a song "Apache" and references to desert flowers. I was convinced they were from the USA southwest for the first few years, I think.
@@jas137 Somebody from the actual US Southwest would've probably not disregarded actual individual Native Americans the way they did with the cover and videos from Ceremony. The Ceremony cover pic was used without the parents' or child's consent, and the burning of the child's image in the band's promotional videos had heavily negative religious connotations to that family. There was a lawsuit. The legal settlement seems to have had an NDA that prevents the band and the child's parents from discussing the outcome. Because of that, nobody knows whether the situation was remedied to the family's satisfaction.
The Cult hasmany great songs. I think you'd especially like Edie-Ciao Baby. Its a tribute to Edie Sedgwick. It mourns her tragic early death from mental illness and drug addiction.
I used to play The Cult on cover bands, back when I started to play (96 through 2006). Lil' Devil, Fire Woman, Wild Flower, Love Removal Machine, She Sells Sanctuary... These were all simple, catchy songs that got everybody pumped on live shows. They just worked. I like Ian's voice a lot and, although he doesn't have a big range and lots of stylistic resources, I consider him a great singer. He does a lot with what little he has at his disposal. In some ways, I compare him with Mark Knopfler. While being nothing alike, they are two singers who can express themselves fully, while not having many "tools" to work with. I find The Cult to be the prime example of straight ahead FM Rock, although they get connected with gothic rock loads of times, due to their clothing and visuals. They are definitely an underrated band. As always, love your videos. Keep 'em coming...

1985 my ex-husband‘s best friend came over with a cassette in his hand, and he was trying to tell my ex-husband how good this band was, and I snatched it out of his hand, and I threw it in my tape deck, and I started listening to it. I was so mesmerized and so blown awaythat I hid the cassette just told him I couldn’t find it when he went to leave. I wore that tape out. I’ve been a lover ever since.❤
The Cult is an absolutely amazing band. Criminally underrated!
As a goth/rock musician for the last 38 years, I am amaze to witness the fact that you experience, for the 1st time, my entire youth, that I heard like thousands of times...
..
All these songs are carved to my brain, note by note, and they will follow me in etherals
I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm flabbergasted these people have never heard these songs!
The power of music is absolutely enchanting.... beautifully stated 🎵 🎸❤️🔥
Oh my, this song just ROCKS ;)
The Cult were an absolutely awesome live show...high energy! Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy have been the dynamic heart of the group from the beginning, creating their signature sound.
A really good friend saw them recently in Reno and said unfortunately it was disappointing.
I saw them last year and they were still awesome live
@@iainweller452
Good to know.
SHE SELLS SANCTUARY!!! ...one of my favourite songs ever recorded!
Yes
This is the reason all of us GenX-ers will be deaf before the age of 50.
Music like this is MEANT to be played loud enough to FEEL it.
Ive already got the hearing of my 82yo father from years of concert staging and my custom built car stereos😂
bah.... i'm 46 and this is still one of my most favorite songs. i have hearing damage, but not from this.
47 here and dealing with grade 3 tinnitus from jamming out to music like this in my youth.
What ?
Ian Astbury has an Irish Celtic background or ancestry. I see his footwork as reminiscent of Riverdance steps. 💃🎵🎸
This song is as good today as the day it was released. This was a huge song for them and well deserved.
This song gives me goosebumps.
The guitar, his voice and the lyrics.
Was a massive favourite of mine back in the day....
They are a great band with a great singer. As you get further into them, I think you’ll find a number of great songs off their Love album.
@@TheCharismaticVoice They have one of the best hard rock album trifectas (string of 3 great releases on a row) out there: Love, Electric, then Sonic Temple. Really cool evolution from Goth Rock to Arena Rock.
Truly one of the most underrated rock bands.
She Sells Sanctuary is killer!!!
She sells sanctuary is iconic and gives me the colly wobbles every time I hear it
One of the most underrated bands ever
Saw the cult a few years ago and Ian threw his tambourine up really high to catch it, but lost it in the lights, it hit him in the face and put a big gash in his face, just kept on rocking with blood pouring all over. So freaking rock!
Saw him Seattle 5 years ago and thought he didn't bust himself in the face but he absolutely wore out and destroyed about 6 tambourines through the show. It was hilarious he just got another one and kept on going.
I love this story. THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
The most underrated/under appreciated bands from the 80’s. Ian is one of the most charismatic frontmen ever. I’m so glad you finally got to them!
Been with them since Southern Death Cult, always loved them, always will!!
17yrs old when this dropped.
Some amazing memories to this, that entire summer!
She Sells Sanctuary is a must!!!! Loving it 😁😁😁
THE CULT! One of the best front ment voices - so distinct, powerful, unique. The songs! The BAND. Come back to us.
ELECTRIC!!! One of the best rock bands ever! And one of a few distinctive vocalists of the genre. This will get your blood flowing.
Oh wow. So cool. Whenever I listen to The Cult, my neighbours do, too.
KLIPSCH: Pissing off the neighbors for decades.
If you don't want to get up and dance to this you are not human ❤❤❤❤
Billy Duffy is my favorite guitarist....so good
Agree!
One of my favorite albums of the 80s!
@@markmaioli4 LOVE by the Cult is one of my top 5 albums of the 80s...and Sonic Temple is up there as well.☮🖤🎶🎵
The cult had an amazing 3 album stretch in the 80s that culminated here. Love and electric are also great albums
Most under-appreciated band of their era. Astbury was one of the best frontmen in rock.
"She Sells Sanctuary" or "Wild Flower" next.
Dear young miss, I am very very new to this ....whatever?, platform?
I have seen some of your videos. Your analysis, of most things, is spot on.
My reason to react to you for this particular song, is my great and good friends recent death
My friend introduced me to the Cult. I introduced him to Joe Satriani. We both loved Iron Maiden.
We survived and helped each other through , honestly, death defying situations.
He died of a massive stroke. Ten days younger than myself.
I love this song. I loved my bud.
Thank you for everything you do.
Aaaaaand He sang for the Doors for a bit for live show tours!!Did a Great job filling in for Jim.
There was a joke in Canada that Jeff Martin of the Tea Party should have taken that gig since he looks and sounds so much like Jim Morrison already. Apparently Martin hated the comparison.
I saw him in 2002ish when he was singing for The Doors. Stewart Copeland was on drums.
They recorded a couple of the songs together for the tribute compilation around the same time
I was at the concert in Pittsburgh. It was more than a concert it was more like a celebration of Jim Morrisons life. It was awesome.
"Sweet Soul Sister" is also so good. Love this band. Very underrated, especially the guitar.
Their best song. Agreed. Full album version.
One of my favourites too. 😊
The Cult are one of those bands that are so great to put on headphones/ear buds and listen to. The production value is epic. The swirling in stereo sounds.
Love The Cult, i remember when they were Southern Death Cult. Soooo looking forward to this 🎵🤘🎵
I saw Southern Death Cult supporting Bauhaus; those were the days!
Still do.
Brothers Grimm is one of my favorite Death Cult songs.
I’ve always been amazed with The Cult being one of the greatest Americana Rock groups, whilst hailing from Northern England.
Not their first two albums
I love Astbury's previous band being called Southern Death Cult. Weren't even from South Yorkshire.
@@RobertSmith-js2kz While Dreamtime and Love have a bit of that Brit Goth undertone, lyrically and structurally they’re still quite Americana.
Going to their concert 5th of august for the first time🤘
Ian is one of the most underrated vocalists in rock....and he had awesome hair. \m/
The Cult hasmany great songs. I think you'd especially like Edie-Ciao Baby. Its a tribute to Edie Sedgwick. It mourns her tragic early death from mental illness and drug addiction.
It's an amazing ballad, one of my favorites. When I listen to it, I have to play it over and over. ❤
Sweet Soul Sister and Rise are another couple of songs from this incredible band.
Happy Birthday Elizabeth birthday 🎈 🎉 🎂 🥳 🎁 ❤️
The Cult was one of the few bands that you stopped to.listen from what you were doing when they came on the radio. Always loved San Francisco radio dj Big Rick Stewart for putting them on whether they fit the station format or not.
Elizabeth your husband does have great taste. I really enjoyed your analysis of this song. Now l will have more to think.about while l am banging my head.
The CULT are a very UNDERRATED BAND, I've loved them since the 80's, they have alot of great ALBUMS/ MUSIC, you are barely touching the surface
Blues + Aggression = Rock & Roll 😎
Yes, this, 1000 times!
As Muddy Waters once said "The blues had a baby and they called it Rock 'n'Roll".
I would absolutely LOVE to see you react to Heart of Soul. His best vocal performance, in my opinion.
He is comfortable in his body and so confident in his artistry. Star power baby!
Their song Sweet Salvation is one amazing vocal performances. Ian Astbury is a massively underrated singer. His name should always be up there when discussing the best voices of rock.
Amazing band. If I may, suggest "She Sells Sanctuary" (or any other song from the "Love" album), "Edie", "Sweet Soul Sister", "Love Removal Machine".
Unfortunately, I'm going to be at the doctors for this. But, I am so happy to see this being shown. The Cult is a very underrated, phenomenal group. My favorite is American Horse
I hope everything's okay, John! ❤
@TheCharismaticVoice thank you for your concern, Elizabeth. Unfortunately, I got a few things going on, but they're not exactly life-threatening. Mostly, it has to do with surgery on my back. I hope to be back in full swing in a couple of months and be able to maybe get a part-time job so I can support you and a couple of other reactors better. Thanks for all the entertainment and the knowledge that you give us.
That's my favorite tune also, John. Be well sir.
Great song, great vocalist and great band! Can't wait! 😀
Request - VOLBEAT - A Warrior's Call (Let's get ready to rumble!)
Love Volbeat. I like "Still Counting" the lyrics crack me up.
@@samcrorie Same! 😆
that's a good song too
They have alot of great songs
She sells sanctuary!! An amazing rock’n dance song from the 80’s!
Awww, I love that hubby said it reminds him of you. And you had no idea what was about to happen. 🔥💃
her husband calling her a fire women is so adorable
Rain is my favorite.
Love that song. An old friend of mine's elderly father came into his room one time and said "Ok, so who's Lorraine ?" 😂 He thought the song was called Lorraine 🤣👍 So I automatically think Lorraine. Lol
🎵Here comes Lorraine!🎵
Rain is a great song. My favorite from that album is The Phoenix.
Good on your hubby. I love The Cult. I caught them open for Billy Idol in ‘87 before this one came out. Freakin’ rocked.
I’m jealous…that sounds like a great show!
Damn what a lineup
Me too. Left after The Cult finished though. Patriot Center. Fairfax.
Yay! The Cult is one of my favorite bands ever. I have been lucky enough to see them live four separate times in the last two years and they still kill it, so excited to see your reaction to this 😃.
Am i the only one who when they see the thumbnail you think to yourself, I can't wait to see her experience this, that and the third. Then she still manages surprise you great tune. Hope to see her rockin some more Cult.
You can't deny The Cult....awesome band...still touring !!! love'em
OH YEA!!!! Ten Thumbs up for this selection. This group got lost in the shuffle between Hair Metal and Grunge. Very talented and that Sonic Temple album rocked! Sweet Soul Sister would be an excellent choice as well
They were also surprisingly popular with the New Wave and Goth crowd which seemed to push away some of the pure metal fans.
So cool to see you reacting to The Cult! One of the great (but oft overlooked) Rock bands of all-time from England. They used to be the Southern Death Cult, in a previous early line-up. Anyway, please don't forget to look at Thin Lizzy and UFO, among other GREAT Rock bands of years gone by. 😎
Also oft-overlooked British rock bands: Catherine Wheel.
I think most people would say She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman and Love Removal Machine but I personally love Wild Flower by The Cult.
\m/\m/
Just saw the Cult live in Philly!!! What an amazing experience
