The best part about this series is how Soma isn't afraid to admit he's messed up and genuinely learns from it. He doesn't pretend to be some kind of wunderkind or a prodigy, he's a dude that loves to cook and puts everything he has into it.

Joichiro himself said that Soma is no prodigy, it's in fact, Erina who is a prodigy. Souma is more like Shinomiya, both are from middle class families. Both dedicated their cooking to their mothers, because it's not Joichiro who inspired Souma to cook but it's because his mother liked his father's cooking, he wanted to make something for his mom. So, when his mom said that she still prefers his father's cooking is what made Souma dedicate himself in cooking in hopes of surpassing his dad and which he finally did when he defeated Asahi. And, both went on to become world famous chefs.

Honestly this season for me was meh, i felt it could be way better
His father seeing his son perfect his mothers dish and absolutely killing it. He knew his opponent had no chance.
In his shokugeki against Erina, Soma does not seek to win, after seeing Erina's state, he simply wants her to go back to who she was, basically he wants to remind her, it's funny because before that he, before his fight, thinks about her and in everything they went through together, something that was not shown in the manga, ironic and fucking adorable
The ending is still going to be the same, lackluster

The manga was a letdown. I struggled to watch the final season. Everything is quite repetitive after a while and its lack luster and predictable battles. I think it should of ended after the 3rd or 4th plate.
In the end he said he was going to become the best from the first season and beat his dad. In the end he just becomes the same as his dad a travelling chef and never battles him but beats him indirectly via Saiba.

I love how the epitome of all cooking is the one that reminds you of your mom's cooking. When you make a dish and it reminds others of their mother's cooking than that's the highest compliment anyone can receive, because no matter how big you are mothers will always be there on a pedestal that no one can ever compare.
This was a perfect realistic dish. Fried rice is extremely flexible with ingredients. You can put an leftovers or an array of ingredients and it would still taste good. To top it of this was the first fish Soma learned. Good way to also bring it full circle. Wish for better closure in the end though. May be an OVA?
2:47 I couldn't help by cry when I see this. She is the spitting image of Soma, Her headband she passed on to Soma after her death broke me but he dedicated his entire life to honor her by making this dish. In a way Tamako was there with his Son every step of the way.

What really amazes me is that customers would pay and gamble if Souma's mom will produce a good or a bad dish. These are not just customers. They have a more intimate relationship with that diner because they love the chefs-owners. Goes to show what kind of people they are:)

I always laugh at how stupid the characters react everytime they eat soma's dish. But when they start spitting facts about the food, the taste it's origins and etc i'm instantly reminded to be amazed at how much research and thought was put in to this show. Also, that "taste of failure" part is just so real. I like the show when it's spitting facts.

@Jon Doe it wasn't even the author's fault. Blame the publishers because they wanted to rush the ending and MADE the author go this way. He still did it a little mildly I suppose, now reading the situation but it could've been worse imo. The author also had released three extra chapters called "le dessert" with more details that the anime didn't cover all the way. I've kept saying since the end of the manga that they should make a film like Naruto The Last Movie and finalize erina and Soma's relationship like with naruto and hinata.

I like the fact that the series shows how soma’s dish is good when the judges started quickly digging in to the dish. It reminds me of one instance in master chef where one of the contestant’s dish was so good that even gordon ramsey licked his share of the dish clean.
This last dish ties the series up pretty well. All the inside jokes about disgusting food throughout the series that seemed so humorously pointless; they were all ways for Soma to keep his mother’s memory alive.

one of the big reasons i love anime, is it teaches you it's okay to fail, that failure is natural, but it doesn't spell the end, if you work hard enough you can turn it around the next time, you can turn a failure into a victory
it's something a prodigy with never understand, they spend the entire lives with natural born talent so they rarely experience failure, anime has taught us to take failure alongside with wins, and make it yours improve it till its no longere a failure

Quite the bold dish. Crossing just two regional flabor profiles is a challenge, but you'd have to be legendary to get 5 together in one dish and have it be palatable, let alone delicious.

I love that the regulars at the eatery made a game of chance out of Soma's Mom's fried rice, and she was in on it she was truly having fun. I do wonder what I wonder what the rules between them was, maybe guess right and its on the house, guess wrong and the bill is on you, they truly seemed to be having fun.
Too be honest. If they showed Soma's past more earlier like his mother and the first food that she made as a failure being fried rice that would be symbolic showing that this is his final and best dish he made of the first failure dish representing his mother. Then it can also symbolize like, Erina and her mother or something. Idk. Felt like there could be potential. But they just showed Soma's mother midway while this episode was going.

Can confirm. Everytime I go home on weekends from college dormitory, I dice up every leftover food whether it may be meat or veggies on our Fridge and put them all into fried rice. Add in some egg salt and pepper and pretty much it's a good meal.
