Hi, i have been wanting to have a go at this hat for ever, and i finally had a spare hour this evening ( yes, it took me just under the hour). I have looked at other tutorials on here, tried a few out, but ended up launching the failed hat across the lounge in shear frustrartion. Then, i came across you, and yay! I succeeded! Thaank you so much for your clear instruction. I completed the hat and i am chuffed to bits! Best i sort out all the ones i launched and try to undo them. Thanks again. T. X
Hello again figured out what I did wrong was doing 2 hdc all the way around for every row and not counting when to do them amazing what slowing down and paying attention will do lol thanks for responding so quickly I think I'm getting the hang of it!
Love the tutorial!! I have a few questions if you could help me please. I need to make this hat for 6-9 months. I did one so far with the 7 hdc and an I hook and did 12 rows. But still too small. Should I do 8-10 hdc at crown? Then follow tutorial And how many rows would I need to fit a 6-9 month? Tyvm for the video and your help
You make this easy to follow, I thank you! Now I wonder if you would have any idea how to convert this to like a "Marines" dress hat? My Marine grandson and his wife are expecting, I know they would love to have it!
Just crocheted this hat but where I slip stitched at the end the brim now looks untidy and not like a neat row of stitches. A shame because it's in such an obvious place. Everything else was perfect though. Also with the band, do you see it on completely or just see the ends down? Thank you.
Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as joining, 1 hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc (hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc next hdc) around; join (35sts) Newborn, stop increasing here. Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as joining, 1 hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc (hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc); join (42sts) Infant, stop increasing here. Round 7: Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as joining, 1 hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc (hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around; join (49 sts) Toddler, stop increasing here. All sizes: hdc around for 6 (7, 8) rnds. Fasten off and break yarn
When I look at the pattern I don't see where it says the final length for an infant? I know you say stop at 5 1/2 for a newborn? am I just missing it? haha 😊 thanks!
+iKNITS I posted to your Facebook. I plan on using more of your patterns. I recently started crocheting newborn hats for our local hospital. I have to adjust the pattern to accommodate a larger size. The hospital asked if I could make them for the bigger, 10 to 13 lb, babies.
You made this hat for a newborn, so you went 12 rows, making it approximately 5 inches long... I went by the pattern instructions, and made this hat for a toddler. My question is, how many rows of hdc do I need to add to fit a toddler, or will 12 rows do it for a toddler also?
Tanya Kingsley hey the written pattern actually has all the different sizes there! There is a link to the pattern underneath the video in the description bar. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
Please help. I took this as my very first ever crochet project and I found your video amazing. My end result however is not quite the way I think it should be and I have no idea what I did wrong. the whole cap is fine, but the bill seems out of shape, I have no idea why, I saw it and then restarted my bill and it came out the exact same way.......
Why don't you ch 2 with each new row like the pattern states in the pdf? Also your video, what size hat are you making? If I wanted to make this for a toddler, would I keep on increasing beyond the 3 hdc? Such as 4 single hdc then the 5th one being 2hdc? TY
I am pretty sure I mention the reason why in this video. It's because it creates a seam and I don't want a seam because it doesn't look as nice. So I make a continuous round, that way it looks seamless and much better in my opinion. But you can do it either way :) The written pattern has the sizes newborn all the way to 3 years old. So if you download the pattern, it should help you with your question. Let me know if I can help you after doing that.
In the pattern document it shows each row you chain 2, your video doesn't show you chaining two when starting each row. you said you did 6-12 instead of 11 bc the size you needed. what size did you make it? I am wanting newborn so would going to 12 like your video work? Im little confused on directions on pattern when i pull it up bc of the chain 2 part. thx
Yes, I didn't want to do the Ch 2 because it shows where each round starts. I made the newborn size but added a few more rows cuz it needed to be longer. When you look at the written pattern, just ignore the ch 2 part and then it should all make sense! Unless you want to do the ch 2 and that would be easier for you then do it that way :)
Hmm, I think it's because you're not keeping track of where your round ends and begins so you make an extra stitch which makes your circle bigger and bigger. So I would use a marker like a scrap piece of yarn, and pay close attention on if you're putting an extra stitch there. Let me know how it goes!
So can i make the pattern of your video and hook j and i will be for like a 6 months old baby. Im just really bad reading patterns i get confuse, but i watch them on video and i can make them. Thats why i ask so much😊
You can make an adult size out of this pattern! I would use chunky yarn, and a bigger hook. Then keep increasing until it fits your head. So start with 4hdc, 2hdc in 5th st. then the next round do 5hdc, 2hdc in the 6th stitch. Does that make sense?
Hey if you click on the link to the written pattern that I have under the video in the description bar it'll tell you how to make one for a one year old!

Oh yay! So glad you figured it out!

+iKNITS I will post in just a bit...when I figure out how to add a pic.

hi I love this and was successful making it but the brim sits flat on my son's forehead... any suggestions ? did I do something wrong ?
Very nice
Very cute! I'm going to try this.
Yay!!! Let me know how it goes!!!
You made this hat for a newborn, so you went 12 rows, making it approximately 5 inches long... I went by the pattern instructions, and made this hat for a toddler. My question is, how many rows of hdc do I need to add to fit a toddler, or will 12 rows do it for a toddler also?
Debbie Warriner
waiting on this answer. I am also making one for my son who is four. Need instructions for this.
Tanya Kingsley hey the written pattern actually has all the different sizes there! There is a link to the pattern underneath the video in the description bar. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Do u have a military news boy cap
Or how would I make it?

I had the same problem as well. Your video conflicts with the pattern.
Hey i did with 3mm hook,it came out too small..even newborn cant wear that hat:(
What size is for a infant?
And what size is for a toddler?
hi I'm a bit confused tried making but just came out as a flat circle...trying to understand how yours formed a hat..please help! thank you :)
Hmm, I think it's because you're not keeping track of where your round ends and begins so you make an extra stitch which makes your circle bigger and bigger. Very easy to follow. Thank you

Спасибо большое!!!
hi
want to make for one year baby
do you need to change the hook or any pattern for 6 month old hat
Giselle Plaza-Garcia the designer made them all in size J hook. So you should be good with just following with the pattern for that size 😊
So can i make the pattern of your video and hook j and i will be for like a 6 months old baby. Im just really bad reading patterns i get confuse, but i watch them on video and i can make them. Thats why i ask so much😊
i couldnt get the written pattern but it sure looks easy and cute
Renita Rowing oh no how come?! I just tried the link that's underneath my video in the description bar and it worked...
It goes to raverly but cant find
Mine keeps coming out floppy. :( I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
When I've crocheted and mine comes out floppy, it's usually because I'm putting more than one sc in one spot. Does that make sense?
Thank u sooo much 😘 soo clear
Can u make a video like this but knit it? I cant krotch
What size is this for?
The pattern has infant all the way to 3 years old.
Je viens de le faire et il est trop petit..Je l'ai essayé sur le poupon de ma fille il est déjà juste c'est dommage

If you click on the link of the free pattern that's in the description bar under the video, it will have the directions for the different sizes :)
Thank you!! :)
thank u! I love it and done it! :)
Can you make a video for adult size.
You can make an adult size out of this pattern! I would use chunky yarn, and a bigger hook. Then keep increasing until it fits your head. So start with 4hdc, 2hdc in 5th st. then the next round do 5hdc, 2hdc in the 6th stitch. Does that make sense?
Yes it does thank you so much.
you're welcome! Let me know how it goes!
ESE NO SE ENTIENDE TIENE QUE SER EN ESPAÑOL

Hey if you click on the link to the written pattern that I have under the video in the description bar it'll tell you how to make one for a one year old!
