Car looks like it needs a bit of love
@Analoguedialog😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
After all these costs displayed paid, he could use some himself :-
Tyres and suspension overhaul is not a yearly thing so its not that bad IMO. But putting 22K on it in a year is madness.
tyres can be every other day for some lol
It's not madness. I have done 40k in my RS6 in 2022. Loved every mile
22k a year is crazy?..
@@oWR3CKL3Zzoin the uk it is
I find it insane you've driven it 22k miles in one year, despite having multiple cars as well as driving other peoples cars too !
tbf if i had a e92 i would put at least 35k on it yearly
Tax on the purchase, tax on the maintenance, Tax on the parts, Tax fuel bill is 80% tax. You are paying for Rishi Sunaks next offshore account.
Lad took a new 4wd 5 seater hatchback and turned it into a trackcar and now dailys an old RWD V8 Coupe hahaha.
Exactly, more money than sense.
Not sure why you didn’t turn this into a track car and use the golf as a daily. Surely makes more sense
guy fumbled the bag on that tbh. This would've been a perfect track/drift beast with the R doing what an R does, being a daily.

I've owned mine just under 10 years now. Yes, it's a daily. 168,000 miles. Dread to think what it has cost, I don't think about it. Incredible car, the most smiles per miles I've experienced.
Same, im at 8 years of ownership, its an amazing car. I can't fault it.
This phenomenon is known as the “sunk cost fallacy”. It hasn’t been worth it at all, and you know it hasn’t. The mind is a wonderful thing! 🤣
@@HealthyMotherfcker the typical response to anyone that drops stupid amount of money on a car and justify it by saying 'it makes me smile' ....
@@HealthyMotherfckerif it wasn’t worth it he would have got rid of the car years ago. Emotion, satisfaction and subjectivity overrides objectivity when it comes to cars for many. For him it was categorically worth every penny I’d say.
I bet this is the only e92 m3 in the uk that’s covered over 20k miles through 2023 😂
I did 1600 miles in mine
The thing about BMWs is that after all the expenses, you forget as soon as you hit the throttle. It brings back the smile on your face. Until something else comes up again and you think about selling. And the cycle repeats itself.
The road tax on that car in Ireland is 1800-2600 euro depending on the year of manufacture and how you pay it.
What is also scary is not only how much it has cost you in a year of ownership, for the simple basic things, but also how bad the car looks. Don't get me wrong, its a sweet car, but everything is fading. Everything looks very worn out. After replacing everything that was fading and worn out on the exterior and interior of my E46 M3 6spd, I have a really good idea of how much it would cost you to replace all the things with new parts. From the doors, seats, and center console trim, to the steering wheel and exterior trim and body panel parts...it adds up very fast!!
I've been on the cusp of pulling the trigger on doing a full interior restoration on my e36, shuddering at the thought of the price haha
bruv anything before e9x is going to shatter because materials were not so good
If you minus the fuel cost it’s not that bad tbh, still on my wishlist! Thanks for sharing
Luxury car tax was implemented long after these stopped being sold. The horrendous tax is just based on the emissions at this age.
Had one of these when I was 24, beautiful car, not the best for british roads but it was a bucket list car and happy to have ticked the box. Throttle actuators were on the way out when I sold but I actually had no bills in my ownership.
Think you need to put some money into tidying her up though, looks a bit scruffy now!
Correct. My question is tho. If it’s taxed on emissions then why can I drive it into a ULEZ zone ? 😂😂
What made you sell it, and what did you replace it with?
@@stephenwilson2793I know it makes no sense 😆 I’ve got a W204 C63 which falls into the highest tax band with a polar bear friendly 6.2 N/A V8, yet it’s still ULEZ friendly 🤣
I'm glad you set the record straight. It amazes that the owner doesn't know this.
@@ARDEN440i 11mpg was annoying even with the relatively low mileage I was doing at the time and I really didn’t think it was a great car for the UK, made a great noise and always felt special to get into but the rest wasn’t quite there. A few cars that I wanted to own came up and the M3 had gone up a fair bit so sold it and got an Integra DC5, then Megane 265 cup, then E46 M3, all of which suited British roads much better in my opinion, the E46 was very different to the E92, more fun to drive, not quite as special feeling but suited what I needed better
£0.77 per mile roughly since he owned it.
That's insane when you calculate it like this.

@@scott12atnot really. Similar to bus prices
Quite cheap for a car like this tbh, I think my C63 must have cost me around £0.90 per mile. Most of that is fuel but also tax, insurance and maintenance.
Great video mate 👍👍👍 i can’t wait to get one again ! Can you tell me what the wheels are I forgot ?
Time to do a Mat Armstrong and raffle this bad boy off!
Not been funny here pal but you buy a car like this you can’t really complain at all!
I run 6 M cars, two 46 M3 cabs, M4CS, M4 comp cab, ZM roadster, M4 CSL & a B3S Alpina cab, there all on Admiral multi car policy , all fully comp which cost me £2186 a year.
Road tax adds up to about £2500 a year, serving is done at the main dealers ( Soper) all parts are purchased from Sytner Nottingham (get a better deal)… I use all daily buy put them all away during the winter months, tyres are all MPSS, there all low mile cars & they cost very little to run to be honest, people that moan about the costs are used to running a Ford fiesta, they buy the cars but can’t afford to maintain them correctly.
I have a M3 tourer coming at the end of the month (hopefully) it’s been on order for 18 months, as long as you don’t buy a bag of shit in the first place then they won’t cost you a fortune to maintain & keep.
Throttle actuators are £950 inc vat fitted with a lifetime warranty at Evolve, rod bearings are £1650 in vat done again at Evolve, these two things are what buyers look for before purchasing, I’d say you need to Chuck some money at yours as it looks a tad scruffy if I’m honest!
These machines are what they are… fun, if you have add everything up on these cars then it’s best not to buy one!
Wow, you’re amazing. What a top bloke.
Appreciate the honesty, bit of a eye opener for most people i think. These cars are not cheap to run, and to be honest a lot of the people that are in the market for this cars now can't really afford to keep them running.
You must have good job to pay for all three high powered cars
Daddy’s money 😆
Looks like you went to the most expensive garages for everything.
3.5k for Rod bearings and they didn't do the engine mounts at the time? Really?
Out of interest what do you estimate the market value of the car is now ?
That’s not the reason the tax is so higher the 40k thing came in later (2017) and reduces after 6 years.
Looks a lemon that. Shame to see such a low mileage example turned into a neglected daily. Surely a nice 335d or something would’ve been a better option? Or track car the M3 and daily the golf?
yeah my yearly cost over 14k was £2475 on maitenance - Throttle actuators, brakes/lower arms, £900 on tyres, and £9600 in fuel for a year. So all in £12,075 as a daily driver and I've lost £10k on the sale of the car (e93 vs e92). That doesn't take into account insurance or tax.
Great vid that is a few quid for a year's motoring but at least u enjoyed it
I had mine for 8 months, 2 tyres, full service, all fluids changed inc gearbox and diff. Diff pion seal changed, I averaged a tank a weekend in it and loved every bit of it. These cars are a money pit at no point can you stop spending money on them but you forget about it all when you are out behind the wheel.
I got surprise when you said 7k for fuel, glad I don't daily drive mine, but everytime when I go out with it, it eats a full tank, but it doesn't matter, it smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
how many mpg?
Love that it’s been driven but surely a nice diesel daily with save you some £ and hold the value of the E92
Hi. I had the e93 M3 2010 plate for 7 years. Very reliable. I had to get the throttle actuators done under warranty. The rod bearings never go, if you never thrash the car when the engine is cold. I had no issues with the rod bearings. Normal wear and tear. Tyres, replaced battery once. One headlight bulb. 1x ABS sensor. Brilliant car. But you get used to the speed. So I purchased the M6. F12. Monster. 👹. But, you can’t throw it around like the M3. But it slides in almost all gears with traction on. If I had the money, the Porsche 911 991.2 Turbo S, all wheel drive is an absolute beast. No sliding. 0-60 in less than 3 secs. 🎉
There was one on eBay here in Bristol with 198000 miles for £10995. Clear MOTs every years and the rods replaced by Redish in Bristol. I was very tempted to go and get it but my 650i Gran coupe is keeping me going for now
The only reason that puts me off going into a E92 or any older high performance car of this kind, its not for want its just not viable as a daily.
I believe the 40k luxury car tax only applies for the first 5 years, don't feel so bad Im paying that for my little 1 series 😮
Tyres PS4s 235/35/19 nearly £800 for four, im guessing the A45s will demand equally expensive rubber
God that’s crazy, I had one of these for a year and actually made money from the experience!
Bought for 18.5k and sold for 21, insurance was 700, maintenance 1000, tax 650, and fuel didn’t do loads of miles so roughly 1000. Good times! Would never have one as a daily though that is crazy, I’m sure you’ve made enough from RUclips to contribute to the cost though so not all bad
You barely drove it
Sell it! Stupid money for an old car.
It’s about how it makes you feel not the age of it.
@natsiel I get its a great car but come on....£11000 in costs to keep it on the road.
@@andrewdent696cars a money pit ive had one.
Why does my comment not remain?
Tax is due to the c02 and is £675 annually from this year. (Thats what i paid!) the luxury tax is for april 2017 registered cars onwards
The e92 M3 is my dream car. I currently drive an e92 335d m sport. The price of tax here in Ireland is €790 per annum for my 335d. The reason why I'm not yet driving an e92 m3 is because it would cost €1809 per annum to tax here in rip off Ireland
Love the realisation of how expensive it can be to run such vehicles.
Luke been laughing my head off sat watching this hahaah😂😂😂😂
A set of PS4s tyres on your M3 is around £200 cheaper than what I pay for my Astra!
This is why cars like this will disappear soon as sad as it is
Awesome video explaining costs but that’s why I got a 335d 😂😂😂
Sometimes best not to add it up 😂 So much money wasted on our love of cars over the years!😊
Everytime i spend money on my bmw x5 i drink lots off beer at night and forget about it.
The only reason the tax is high on these is the engine, luxury tax didn’t exist when these were made and even if it did luxury tax is also for only the first 5 years. At least that’s the impression I’ve got from research I may be wrong
May as well enjoy it few years more.
I want a pre 2001 996 now
Mate when you pulled out the fuel receipts I was a little shocked, but when you added them up my jaw hit the floor 🤣
That’s the reason my two gas cars are mostly parked and I now daily a Mini Cooper electric.
@@rogermartinez78and then you looked in your pants and parked your balls too
I bet the 22,000 miles were not fun miles either, plodding on the motorway I bet.
I have a B7 RS4 … might cost a lot to run but how much longer will we be able to enjoy V8’s! To me it’s worth it
luxury car tax expires once your vehicle is 5 years old. So it has nothing to do with this E92
That's why I drive a 2ltr audi s1 and not a V8 😂
I owned an e92 330i for 12 months and it cost 14k in repairs..... thank god for warranty. I am very skeptical of e92.
This is why I paid more and bought one with well under 20k on the clock, feels like new and should not need worn parts replacing for another 40k (at least). The fuel is eye watering though.
i had one for 18 months, fuel is a joke, the garage knew me by first name terms. The car is overated.
@incognito96 as a weekend / 2nd car it makes more sense. Can't beat that V8 + I advise getting solid subframe bushings to sort the rear end.
@@ben2155 100% 2nd car, but then your paying alot to not drive it, also i had a bmw warranty £200 a month, if anything went wrong , its just not value for the money. The noise and balance was brilliant so traded mine for rs3.
@@incognito96 just fix it yourself warranty is pointless
what mpg is it?
Just to clarify the tax weirdness we have In the UK for anyone wondering. As of 2017 the tax system changed from a CO2 based one to a 'three band system' so any car that was registered in that year and had a list price of over £40,000 and wasn't an EV have to pay an additonal £390 for the first 5 years after the second year (first qualifies for showroom tax). In the case of your E92 being registered before 2017, it was simply based on CO2 emissions, and the M2 is in the highest band with 295g/km.
Doesn’t make sense tho that you can drive it into a ULEZ tho 😂🤷🏼♂️
@@jokerash Minimum and median wage people do not drive such cars anywhere in the world.
@@mnoovurviuk they do
@@philip244 No they don't.
The UK just as Australia is a great place run by criminal incompetent governments who taxes to the hill over ideologies that are not grounded in realism
you really are the kind of car owner i would never buy a car off.
I know everyone loves low mileage cars but it comes with a price. The fuel cost with all things considered isn’t that bad. 22k in one year is a lot in the UK. You’re definitely driving the wrong car if you’re looking for efficiency or decent costs. I reckon if you got one with lifetime actuators and the bushes already done albeit higher mileage you’d have saved a few thousand on purchasing and saved 5-8k on “maintenance” (bushes and suspension isn’t a maintenance tho)
That is mad mate but just think of the smiles per miles
As an E92 M3 owner, easily the best car I’ve ever owned, but I’d hate to daily drive it!
I have one , to me Its a daily car just like a c63. This is not some special lamborghini or ferrari. Fuel is a cost you have to bare.
really crazy...
Maybe you should add up the total price of detailing product and shampoos etc you might be unlucky there and go into double figures 😢
And you use that for your daily ?
I very nearly bought one instead of my M240i, but I knew as a daily would probably be a little pricey to run. BUT NEVER TO THIS EXSTENT.
is the m240i expensive to maintain?
@outsideboy23 No, had it 3 & a half years no. It's just service costs, brake pads & tyres.
That being said, BMW did quote me £289 just the change the front pads. So I took it elsewhere.
Just to tip you over the edge ..what about factoring in the depreciation on the car?😢
Damnit 😬
and this is why theres a lot of small cars on the road now
So your V8 M3 still costs less to tax than our 2.3 Ford Galaxy 😅
Not possible, the M3's in the highest road tax band, it's at least equal (which is still nuts!).
@@Assimilator1 We paid £675 this year (in one payment) Luke's was £630-40 (if he paid in one go)
@@FastDriver318 I (& others) mentioned elsewhere here that his road tax cost is now out of date, when I taxed my M3 in April it cost me £695! (lump sum for 12 mths).
Btw that's crazy your Galaxy is in the same group! It must be really bad on fuel?
I'm a little familiar with those Galaxy's as I used to work on them. They use the twin cam engine based on the later 2.0 Ford Sierras. I had one of those and used to average 33 MPG (it was a manual), which was pretty decent at the time.
But of course the Galaxy is much heavier! (and with a bigger version of the engine). Is yours auto? And 4WD? (did they do those with 4WD??).
Anyhow, it really annoys me how much they've put road tax up over the past few years, especially as I only do a few thousand miles a year in it!
@@Assimilator1 Ours is an '08 with the 2.3 Duratec 4 cylinder (Auto- that engine was auto only) and front wheel drive (I don't think they did 4WD of that gen of Galaxy!). I'm not sure of the exact MPG- I can't bring myself to check- but I know its really not great 😂. I've always put the high emissions/ tax to the fact its a (relatively) big naturally aspirated 4 cylinder petrol. The tax is definitely a hard pill to swallow but we've had the car for 11 years and 90k miles- and we aren't giving it up to road tax (even if its gonna start equating to a sizeable chunk of the cars value soon)!
@@FastDriver318 Wow! That's a long time you've had it! 🙂
Ah yeah, that's a different engine.
Would think it would do slightly better MPG then.
Well, the M3s can do the low 20s with mixed driving, if you go easy! Mid 20s on purely a motorway run, surely your galaxy can do better than that!?😂
Perhaps you should add up the fuel cost like Luke has!?😁
Just as well you do lowish mileage anyway!
It’ll be up for sale soon as it’s coming up to 100,000 miles and a major service. One careful owner anyone? 😂
truly feel sorry for the sucker that will buy that
Your tax is £695 as of April 2023 and it has absolutely nothing to do with "luxury car tax bracket" as that didn't exist in 2009 (or whatever year that is). Even if it did, it only applies for 5 years. It's £695 because it is measured as over 255g per km of carbon dioxide.
Go back to the mk5 golf!
I imagine you won't have to spend that much on maintenance every year, but I think you need to cut down on the miles. The rest isn't that bad.
YOLO mate, can’t take it with ya 😅
When you said 600 for 4 tyres I thought that was a good price lol. Mines 450 per rear tyre
Annual road tax on that car where I live will cost just. around 1400 British pounds. gasp....

This is a good ad for an EV.
Should have added the depreciation you lost by adding 20k miles to it. Probably what, 2k? So, like 19k per year to drive it? Insane. Love the car, but you need deep pockets to really enjoy it and not worry. Id rather have a slightly lesser car and go on 2 holidays extra per year. Each to there own though!.
Cheap for 4 tyres though. I’ve got 21inch and just shelled out 1100 😯 Live the engines in these. What a sound
