I got punished a lot for expressing myself as a kid. I still go through life with a lot of internalized shame. So my explorer side is underdeveloped. I tend to get stuck in a state where I want to figure everything out in my mind in advance instead of trusting that I can find the answers and solutions along the way.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  5 месяцев назад +4

      Sorry to hear that :(
Well, you can appreciate that part of yourself that wants to figure everything out so that you aren't punished again. Though I'm sure there are different ways of dealing with it now that you are older and more wise / resourceful.
I wonder what would happen if you talked to that part of yourself and explained that it's time for a new approach?
If that made no sense, then maybe check out "parts work" as a changework modality.

I resonate with "internalized shame". I have to forgive myself and others for continuing to put me in a box so to "fit in" with a culture that does not understand my gifts. As an INFP, value has to come from within, and it's difficult sometimes when we are hard on ourselves.

I love praying, and it really helps me a lot. Thank the Lord for being so gracious.

What's helpful about it, if you don't mind me asking? I'm not religious, but I have my thoughts about why it'd be helpful.

It is hard to explain succinctly or in concrete terms. All I would say is that He is available for relationship and speaks through our feelings.

@@GeekPsychologyPraying is talking to somebody who knows me. I do not have to justify, explain (like I try to formulate a thought and I make a statement and then feel I need to modify the statement as there are obviously cases where the statement does not apply on 100% every time and I struggle how to express this and remember that He gets perfectly what I wanted to say, that he undestands that the authentic statement was not meant to impose on the other authentic cases it seemed to omit - if you see what mean :) ). It is talking to somebody who deeply cares. When I rely on Him (when in troubles, I pray and accept He knows and cares and the trouble may lead to something good eventually), it brings peace and strenght to go forward. Sometimes a miracle happens (a coincidence so excellent to be a mere random coincidence), sometimes nothing happens, I accept both and accept He knows where it is going and when is the right time. It is a journey, once you decide you want to try to learn about Him and start the relationship, going through different experiences deeper and deeper to discover His genuine love towards you (not a mere general love for all people, but deep individual love for you as a concrete person). Love that cares to heal inner wounds and save for eternity. Love that acts in your best interest in the long term, when you look back and see things that were hard at that time but now you are grateful for them as they were a necessary lesson for your growth. Like 1 small thing happening in "second grade" forshadowing or shaping the present as a super coincidence. Once you see it, you cannot unsee. Anyway, good luck on your personal journey and thak you for the videos!

I adore living in my dreamworld as an INFP. I enjoy allowing my brain to sort out philosophical ideas. It brings a smile to my face. My imagination has gotten me through some seemingly impossible situations by creative problem solving and believing I am part of a larger preordained narrative. I like being positive and try to help people feel lighter and see the good, simple things❤

I appreciate your videos. They are so validating. As an older INFP, I always felt something was wrong with me. Its been a difficult life trying to fit in with the hustle culture. I had to tough it out to be accepted and it's led me down paths of pure misery in my jobs and relationships. Personality exploration has changed my life and set me free. Especially knowing I am an INFP was eye opening! I love to watch videos from other INFPs that resonate with me, and be like...yes!! Thank you again and keep doing you!

Good stuff Matt. I’ve been expressing through musical theatre the last few years to feel some creative urge and use my support and harmony (pun intended) skills. I’ve found that version that encourages creativity and leads by example. My work as a counsellor improves every year with more authenticity. Props to the infps. Proud of us all , just nod , you get it. 😉

That's a great way and I'm glad you've leaned into both musical theatre and counselling. They both sound like great methods of using your strengths as well as helping others.

Like yourself I’ve been working towards a bigger picture of what puts me here. I’m a dad , a counsellor , a performer , but still that emptiness exists at times. Sometimes I come to just hear you speak as another INFP does. It’s the unfiltered truth that resonates most and I’m glad you’ve kept this part up . I can imagine it’s difficult but people would say that about a lot of things. I’d always love to sit down with you some day and shoot the breeze but I think I’ll get in line with others who find your approach open and inviting. Cheers , Tim

Is there an INFP without struggle with driving a car? I have had my driver's license for almost 7 years, and I don't drive. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm a 4w5 if that would be helpful 🙈

      What's the problem with driving?

    • @SW-oq8ip

Hello, I overcame my struggles when I wanted to help a friend and it required driving 2 times a week to her and back, for like a year. I would not drive for myself, I even walked an hour to a shop or took a bus, but my friend was going throuh tough times and walking/taking bus was not a viable option. With the practice came more confidence and experience. Now I can drive for hours accross countries and enjoy it. Find a purpose and place to drive to, refresh how the car works (I remember having to read how to start and stop the car as I was not sure after years without driving) and go for it. When the purpose is stronger than the "fear", it will work and get easier over time.

@SW-oq8ip ..yes..as INFP, once we found
The purpose of doing something, we will motivate ourself to overcome our fear, laziness, etc etc to accomplish the mission, like get into a car and drive it to our destination to accomplish that mission. That's how I overcome fear of driving.😊

@@GeekPsychology I guess everything. I think I would need some holy, fully grown teacher. I have this issue where I have high expectations of myself, unfortunately, for others as well. And I have problems communicating that well. So it's really frustrating for me to work for someone, or as in this example, if somebody tries to help me. One unkind comment makes me prefer not to drive again rather than having to put myself in that situation again. The other thing is that driving a car requires a lot of attention from me and being more grounded. So I wanted to hear that as an INFP, we are capable of doing it. And I know that we shouldn't think of personality weak points as limitations, but I needed proof that we can do it. And thanks a lot for that. Do you have any idea where I can look for motivation? Because I don't drive and my life is pretty easy. Nobody necessarily needs me to drive. But I don't necessarily want to wait if that situation becomes unavoidable. I also have been thinking that if I have children someday, that will motivate me.

I think it could be great ^^ depends on the openness and trust in your relationship. But all relationships do, I suppose ^^
