Rare 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300SD is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-five paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Midnight Blue over beige upholstery. Equipment includes a sunroof, 14″ Bundt alloy wheels, a chrome grille and trim, fog lights, automatic climate control, wood grain trim, and an Alpine cassette stereo linked to a CD changer. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2022, and it now shows 58k miles. This W116 300SD is now offered in Florida at no reserve with recent service records and a New Hampshire title.
The car is finished in Midnight Blue (904) and features quad headlights, a sunroof, fog lights, a chrome grille and trim, impact bumpers with overriders, dual side mirrors, and a power antenna. A chip in the windshield is pictured in the gallery.
The 14″ Bundt alloy wheels are mounted with 195/70 General AltiMAX RT43 tires. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted ventilated front and solid rear discs. Service in 2021 included replacing the front brake rotors, front and rear brake pads, axle seals, and brake hoses in addition to repacking the front wheel bearings and flushing the brake fluid.
The seating surfaces are trimmed in beige upholstery with color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Wood trim accents the dashboard and center stack, and amenities include power windows, central locking, automatic climate control, floor mats, a first-aid kit, and an Alpine cassette stereo linked to a trunk-mounted CD changer and amplifier. The cruise control amplifier was replaced in 2021.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 125-mph speedometer with shift point markers as well as a tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 10 of which were added by the selling dealer.
The 3.0-liter OM617 turbo diesel inline-five was factory rated at 110 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Service in 2021 included adjusting the valves and replacing the valve cover gasket, fuel return hoses, fuel filters, air filter, glow plugs, voltage regulator, battery cables, shifter bushings, and thermostat in addition to flushing the transmission, differential, and coolant fluids.
