5:23 She really struck a cord when she started talking about not wanting to go to school that day because this resonates with me so much. I was a sophomore in high school when Obama was elected and half way through the school day I went to the front office to call my mom to come get me. *You could cut the tension with a knife*. I should point out that I grew up in the south, however the city I live in is fairly liberal because it is an army base town as well as a major hospital town, so the demographic is VERY diverse. With that said, the true colors of the south were awakened that day. It was as if we all walked in to school no longer in the America that we had lived in for 14-18 years, but a cold, gloomy, cracked version of it - because of the people not happy with the outcome of the election. We had just elected our first black president - something I remember kids dreaming of while sitting in elementary school classes, the idea making everyone feel so excited. That day had come and it was nothing like we dreamed. When I got off the bus there were two black kids in front of me and I overheard one of them tell the other "don't celebrate, don't smile, don't say anything." Black students showed nothing, no happiness, no cheering all because of how other white "conservative" students where behaving. In 2nd period I was sitting next to this white girl that I knew was from a conservative background and she asked the girl sitting on the other side of her "what do we do, call it the Black House now? teehhehee" and across the row were two black girls just staring at her, clearly hearing what she just said and were just silent. It was miserable when it should've been one of the proudest moments in American history. Almost a decade has passed and we now have a new president, and students are still experiencing what I felt that day, but in such a different way. It's no longer the conservative kids that are upset because they got what they wanted and celebrate it loud and proud while black students again, feel hopeless. I do want to say though that these kids are so bright and talk about these issues without screaming at each other, which BTW if you watch the debate on Vice with GROWN ASS ADULTS they are literally squealing over each other like a bunch of piglets. You guys are our future and just remember that no matter what happens, with hope anything is possible.
r u dumb "the true colours of the south were awakened" yep everyone one in the south is actually racist and didn't have any legitimate opinions about Obama other than I don't like black people and that electing a black person should be the proudest moment in American history why because he was black or because he was a good candidate we both know it is the former. And why did you stereotype black people as democrat and anti-trump? like oh, the democrats were respectful and didn't celebrate because they were scared of all the racists in the school and they're humble. Trump was the worst treated candidate in US history STFU, if Hillary came under the same scrutiny as trump I think we would know a lot more about the corrupt Clinton Foundation. The divide in America between democrats and republican was caused by people like you calling conservatives and southerners racist, I think that people who don't even want to come to school because they don't like the president-elect are babies on both side blue or red but get out of here with the black kids were quiet while the conservatives were loud and arrogant while making the poor black people who you singled out btw felt hopeless again against what Trump is a racist? you will probably not reply to this or even report this because I hurt your feelings.
Nick Kerr I always find it so adorable when people who aren't even from America find it neccessary to shove their two cents in, granted we are a capitalist nation and do like our cents. Anywho... I'm not saying any of that. I'm only talking about what I SAW on a day that was SUPPOSED to be *ONE OF* America's proudest moments. It's completely anecdotal and not suppose to represent EVERY black person who's in America. But that's what people who don't agree like to do - generalize everything and everyone. Yes, a lot of people have admitted they only voted for Obama bc he was black, but his message of HOPE was the point I was trying to make. Here's a cool new idea for you: you don't have to agree and I genuinely don't give two fucks either way. "Trump is the worst treated president" will always be hilarious to me and further shows that you don't know what you're talking about. We've had multiple presidents assassinated, actually impeached, trump gets "you're a racist" and all of a sudden his sheep think he's been crucified. Btw, I don't think trump is a racist, I think a good group of people who voted for him are. I also agree with some of his policies believe it or not, but I can't stand how divided this country has become after the last two presidencies. I'm not saying that all of trumps followers are shitty people (some of them are) but there's shitty people all across the board including The Clintons. So, to answer your question: no, I r not dumb.

Just found these videos, and I think it's great to have discussions on some really difficult issues. It has highlighted for me, that one area where we need to do better in our education is the study of logic and identifying logical fallacies. Again, great job in facilitating good discussion.
This is an example of an incredible teacher and an incredible group of young adults who foster intelligent conversation and debate about topics that most older adults would avoid or never have. The fact that they sit down in a respectful manner and share different ideas is already proof that the future does have a shimmer of light. I really do hope these students continue to share and be open to listening to different ideas from all perspectives and that their passion for learning about these critical topics will one day become solutions in the future.
Love this content. You guys could do this more regularly and actually monetize it. That would be a powerful teaching moment for kids to learn how to make money is this market as well as inspire more open conversation about difficult topics. Great work you're doing here!
Mr. Huhammad, so glad to see what you're doing with these kids and these discussions. I never had this when I was in high school and I think it is great. We need more teachers like yourself. @@everythingtwitch9385 2020 was a big sum up of how bad it was. Given I know that a pandemic would be hard for any president but he didn’t unite us in times when we needed him to. And that is probably a big part of why he lost the election.

its a public school. I’m in the same school district, and we have a very large budgets for education. We are getting new macbooks and the ones we have now elementry kids will get them
I’m assuming home ownership is high in the area therefore property tax is abundant. If the school is located in a more rural area a little funding goes along way. It’s significantly harder to get MacBooks for a school with 1,700+ students in a heavily populated state like California or New York however it’s significant easier to manage in the majority of the US where students per school is not only lower but the rates for home ownership may be higher.(may as this isn’t the case for lots of schools across the nation)
@@drewschimmel5463 Dude I love America. I think America is one of the best if not the best countries in the world. I don't think America is bad. @@vincentyoung2959 alright, well first of all, he put out to the general public that THE ONE THING THAT CAN HELP THE SPREAD IN PUBLIC was a hoax and was actually dangerous, which it has been scientifically proven not to be, but trump isn't a man to take science seriously now is he. Speaking of, he said multiple times in interviews that the pandemic is a hoax, that it was magnified significantly by the left, which it most certainly was not. He also said multiple times that we should do things to help that are very dangerous. Such as injecting our lungs with Clorox and lysol. 80 people were sent to hospitals because they tried that. He tried to say he was kidding, but you don't kid about something like that. He also went on air saying that uv Ray's kill bacteria, so we should just go out in the sun and that will cure our covid. Also, through all the stupid protests, where ARMED men were storming government facilities, he said that they were just good people fighting for freedom. Just watch any clip of the protesters, and you will see that these are terrorist esqe attacks. Not to mention the times he was interviewed and was misleading the general public by showing our recovery rate and saying it was good, when what he should have been focused on are the thousands upon thousands of Americans dead because of coronavirus. And, most recently he went on record saying if we took out blue states we would be good with our numbers. It makes me physically angry that this low excuse for a human was even elected, let alone still allowed to run the country after what he has done.
These debates are amazing. Why is this not everywhere as an example for what the adults need to do? I would love to see these same kids have this debate now that some have graduated and went to college
I'd be interested to see what these kids make of trump today. From the perspective of the world outside the U.S. he has done a lot more harm than good.
Great Discussion. I think one of the biggest take away's is how well the media has a hold on the people. The media has been able to stir up such emotion that it had people scared for their own safety by someone getting elected. It shows how powerful their words really are and it shows how much blind trust we have for the television.
The BOOST and mindset this teacher is preparing these students for is what the entire nation needs. All of these kids are so intelligent and well articulated and they're so young. I hope they come back to thank him at a later time in their life.
I respect these students. I'm a retired college professor. However, the problem is that voters make decisions based on what they learn about the candidates during the campaign rather than who they actually are. This information is readily available and candidates with all the money they need and their advisors and promoters can create a personae that is fake. In the case of Trump, he is a con man and has always been, His childhood history and parenting along with his education at military school and Wharton (which had no prestige in the 60s), He racism, treatment of women, marriages, crooked deals, failed businesses, bankruptcies, and most horrifying, his utter lack of basic knowledge, history, and politics was all known prior to the GOP convention....and he was nominated because his ability to con and get TV time was seen as a way for the GOP to perhaps actually win the White House. I'm hearing references to all these things in this discussion but it's too late. If the population was informed with facts before the campaign began, he would never have been elected.
Gregg Hanson I would just like to say that people arent always the same throughout their lives and i dont think you should be sooo focused on the bad that Trump has done but also balance it with the good
Your comment is really hard to unscramble. If you are so ignorant as to think Trump is honest about anything, you need to go back to school or read a book or watch a documentary about him. He's a crook, man.
Bernie Sanders is not a socialist despite his false claim of being one. his healthcare plan was looked at as a very successful plan by objective observers and it would have saved Americans 5000 dollars on average. every developed nation on earth has a better healthcare plan than the US, yet apparently people in American think ours is so great? 45,000 people die every year from lack of healthcare in the US. that just doesn't happen in other countries

Assuming the school put some kind of prerequisite to attend because of the attention these discussions get
Because this isn’t a debate
Are they told to not make faces or have any reactions or are they just so numb and accepting to the bigotry being spewed from these young white boys
HAHAHA rightt i’m over here being disgusted and having disgusted facial expressions cause this white guy said “i’m glad they bombed somewhere” huh?

Clowndog07 trump and obama are both bad presidents but obama’s better. i never said obama didn’t
annabella a right, Obama was pretty trash but because he was so respectful we all pretty much adore him
Clowndog07 Obama was trash too, what’s your point
It would be interesting to have these students re-discuss how they feel about the administration now almost three years later and things haven't really changed.
The amount of knowledge and thought these kids obviously put into these topics is so refreshing. Keep up the good work, guys. Also, this teacher is amazing. No doubt you are impacting these kids lives forever. 👏
Totally agree!
“I like that he bombed a bunch of ppl” ........ok
Isn’t it funny that the Left is begging for war, just like they’ve been begging for an economic collapse?
Im The Real Tammy gonna he bombed less than Obama
@@Jay_Sullivan Your comment didn't age well.
@@e.t.gohome8042 , how is that the case? They have been begging for war and are only upset about Trump taking out a threat and saving lives. They're still so desperately begging for failure that they took information from a dictatorship and reported it as fact. E.T., go home.
@@Jay_Sullivan There was no imminent threat. That is a lie created by Trump and perpetuated by his administration. A non partisan organization even came out and confirmed that there was no evidence of an imminent threat. When Trump bombed Iran, his supporters praised him endlessly and ignored the threat of war he immediately created.
i really wonder if a lot of their opinions have changed
👏🏾👏🏾
This is a great post
r u dumb "the true colours of the south were awakened" yep everyone one in the south is actually racist and didn't have any legitimate opinions about Obama other than I don't like black people and that electing a black person should be the proudest moment in American history why because he was black or because he was a good candidate we both know it is the former.
Nick Kerr I hate to burst your assumption bubble, but I not only replied to your comment, but
Liked it. Your move.

Just because you're not personally affected by his presidency doesn't mean others aren't. and we should have more compassion for others.
Why would you be affected by him. It doesn’t make sense to me. He’s done everything for the people. Please explain

I really like how this teacher is so respectful and supports everyones views. much respect for him. definitely rare these days.
They should do one about the 2020 election
I wonder what are their thoughts now. Will there be a panel for 2018?

@@everythingtwitch9385 2020 was a big sum up of how bad it was. Given I know that a pandemic would be hard for any president but he didn’t unite us in times when we needed him to. And that is probably a big part of why he lost the election.
Terrific teacher. I wish for many more like him.

Can I just point out that their laptops from school are Apple?
How does this school have money for MacBooks?
Loudoun_Red14 my school does too
I think they might be a private school
its a public school. I’m in the same school district, and we have a very large budgets for education. We are getting new macbooks and the ones we have now elementry kids will get them
My school (public) has them
I’m assuming home ownership is high in the area therefore property tax is abundant.

I just think that America has a lot of problems that need fixing and in my opinion Trump didn't really help fix the big problems that I saw. And yes I do think he made a lot of problems worse. He wasn't entirely bad, and he did make some positive contributions and depending on what you value, you might think he made an overall positive difference. I don't think so. Hey to be fair you can’t blame Trump for a virus that destroyed the whole world, he was doing really good before it so I still believe he can bring it back and continue where he left off
@@vincentyoung2959 umm.. I think I can blame him for all the shit he did during the pandemic. And literally the only good thing he did before was the economy. But that doesn't take away from him completely screwing up the pandemic in this country. He didnt create the virus, but he sure as hell made everything worse. Open your mind and see that how bad it is right now is completely trumps fault.
Zoe MacDonald can you explain how he made it worse, he shut down the country pretty damn fast, and even stopped people from china coming to America and I distinctly remember people getting on him for the travel ban
@@vincentyoung2959 even if this pandemic didn't happen, he is still a horrible human.

Great Discussion. I think one of the biggest take away's is how well the media has a hold on the people. The media has been able to stir up such emotion that it had people scared for their own safety by someone getting elected. It shows how powerful their words really are and it shows how much blind trust we have for the television.
This is a great innitiative at high schools to get kids in a serious discussion abt politics. Normalizes conversation.

Gregg Hanson I would just like to say that people arent always the same throughout their lives and i dont think you should be sooo focused on the bad that Trump has done but also balance it with the good
Actually he is still the same as he was and anyone who doesn't see it is blind. Sorry
