    Re. the tiring dominant leg:
    When I started out learning to master my beast, I did a whole lot of half-moon circular back-and-forth repetitions equally with both feet, so that I grew relatively used to dismounting with either foot.

    Several things you said rang true for me. I also found rocking my feet front to back or slaloming can help with the foot and leg cramping. Practice has lessened my tendency to overuse one leg. I've been riding two years now and still intentionally practice mounting and dismounting on each foot, tight left and right turns, stops and backing up, riding on different surfaces, taking curbs and steps, carrying things. I want to be able to react flexibly if something comes up, so work at what I'm weak at, and it's fun. I'm more interested in agility than speed, and have rarely felt the need for a faster wheel, most times I'm fine in the 15-20mph range. I still should wear more protective gear though :-/

    • @GreenwithAnvy
      @GreenwithAnvy  3 года назад +1

      I’ve tried mounting on my opposite foot and find it impossible :( Much respect to your ability in being a flexible rider! And I agree, I’d much rather go 15-20mph with a more agile wheel than a heavy/faster one. However, bigger wheels really do help with the bumpy roads, so it’s a trade off. Wearing gear is pretty important. I’m still getting scolded by people for not wearing a full face helmet 😆 Baby steps! Stay safe on the roads, and thanks for sharing your story :)

      @@GreenwithAnvy - you might want to try opposite foot dismount, which is easier than opposite foot mount. Opposite foot dismount might help for emergency stop. I'm an old guy (almost 70), and bought a V8F (at 35 lbs, it's easier to transport), since EUC is just a hobby for me (bike trails, private streets where I live, ...). I weigh 190 lbs, so I limit my speed to 18 mph, mostly 12 to 15 mph, since the V8F is a lower powered wheel, although it does have good torque. One issue with most of the faster wheels is they have lower torque and don't brake well. I have a 2001 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle, so less motivation for speed on an EUC. As for gear, I bought a Bell Super 3R MIPS helmet, which is very light, well ventilated, and has a camera mount. I bought a "dual mount" and Shred Lights for headlight and taillight to mount on the helmet.

    thank you for sharing, foot, leg, mount/dismount fatigue will pass the more riding you do, just like exercise. Foot fatigue is the hardest to overcome but with time and pressing past the discomfort more stamina can be developed. Falling is discouraging, road rash, sore muscles, bruising are probably more discouraging for a woman than a man, let your skill and improvement grow naturally with time, at some point recognizing potential troubles will become more recognizable and the necessary skill to overcome those potential problems.

The fact that people started learning EUC often forget how important the safety gears , most of the people only put on a few protection gear which is dangerous, and until they get hurt they realise they needed more . Practice and ride it daily is the key to reduce cramp and tiredness to your legs ,because you are training your muscle to do so .

      @@rcgldr It's still the only pavement crash I've had. I found at the beginning, I was turning only by manipulating the wheel by bending my knees, lifting my heels, etc, and I was practicing turning by leaning, like on a real unicycle, and was trying to keep my knees fairly straight. I was turning somewhat tight circles, for then, ( I can turn real tight circles now) and also doing figure eights. I got wonky, and couldn't recover and I crashed. I had thought it out beforehand, that if I crashed I was going to roll and not stick my hands out like I do when I crash in-line skating. My plan worked. Your brain wants you to stick your hands out; you have to train it not to do that. For the beginners out there; think about what you're going to do if and when you crash; don't let it be a surprise. I've crashed a few times on the trails, hauling ass, and I haven't even hurt myself a little, because I really prepare myself for crashes.

    • @rcgldr
      @rcgldr 2 года назад

      @@bepriceless - Only leaning to turn on an EUC doesn't work in most situations. For EUC, the two main ways to turn are yaw steering (twisting EUC side to side to steer it directly) and tilt steering (moving one foot down, the other foot up to tilt the EUC sideways), which causes the EUC to steer due to camber effect (the radius at the inside of the contact patch is smaller than the radius at the outside of the contact patch, causing an EUC to steer). The response to tilt steering is not linear, and depends on multiple factors: weight, speed, turning radius, ... . For slow speed, tight turns, the EUC is tilted more than the rider leans. For higher speed, large radius turns, the EUC is tilted less than the rider leans. An EUC does become stable at some moderate speed, where if the rider loses balance and only leans by a small amount and the EUC is tilted the same as the rider leans, the tilt steering response is enough to correct the lean for balance. Below the stable speed, the rider will need to steer into the direction of fall to maintain balance. On a real unicycles, yaw steering is the most common method, beginners can arm flail (flail arms left to steer right and vice versa), while advanced riders can use pedal pressure to yaw steer, which works because the rider is applying leverage from the seat on a real unicycle onto the moving pedals, a situation that doesn't exist on an EUC. On a real unicycle, tilt steering only works somewhat for some tires and at some pressure, and generally, you (counter) steer to lean, not lean to steer as seen in this video: ruclips.net/video/UzG9_8NgngI/видео.html . In the case of an EUC, in order to lean, technically a rider briefly applies more pressure on the outside pedal, which counter-tilt-steers the EUC outwards a bit, resulting in an inwards lean. A rider then needs to steer inwards (yaw and|or tilt steer) to control or reduce the lean or return back to vertical. In my case, it helped that I've been counter-steering to lean on motorcycles since 1968 (old guy here).

      Transitioning from a scooter to an EUC is a huge step! I think the e-scooter is a great vehicle. Easy to ride and no worries while riding. The EUC is definitely a challenge to learn, but the payoff is worth it once you get it. If you ever decide to learn the EUC, good luck! You can do it :) The EUC community is very welcoming. I’ve met some great people in this community, which is something that does not really happen much riding a scooter. Let me know if you need more tips. Take care, and thanks for sharing!

      @@GreenwithAnvy - too late for you now, but for some beginners, at slower speeds, arm flailing (flail left to steer right and vice versa), steering into fall for balance and direction control is almost instinctive, (it was for me). A 3 year old using arm flailing: ruclips.net/video/z9YiHu5HJ6o/видео.html . The alternative is enough speed that the EUC becomes stable, if the stable speed is slow enough that bailing is not risky. For the V8F, stable speed is around 6 mph or so. At that speed, balance isn't an issue, and I focused on leaning forwards | backwards for speed control, which was somewhat intuitive, and tilt steering (move inner foot down, outer foot up), which was not intuitive. At first, I just tilted the V8F a bit to see how it would respond, then did weaves, then large radius turns. Tilt steering response is not linear and is speed dependent, so it is somewhat a situational (speed, turning radius, ...) learning experience. I experimented with weaves and turns, with mid-turn corrections. It took a few months before tilt steering with my feet became reflexive. For some (or most) beginners, it's better to use support to mount and launch, and learn how to ride first, then learn how to free (unsupported) mount last, which will be easier since you already know how to ride (this is mentioned in Kuji Rolls video, where the beginner (a girl) uses support to mount and launch (she never free mounts in the video). Wrong Way (Adam)"s girlfriend Monokat (Kate), rode for 50 to 80 km before ever attempting to free mount (mentioned in his how to ride video), which she was able to do without issue since she already knew how to ride.

I recommend try to mount directly on the EUC. I saw on some vids doing like this and it looks better in spite of taking longer.

The electrkc comes with a rain cover, an optional large bag (ive fit 3 liters of water, chargers, and a large breakfast and lunch in there and it still looks small, the load feels weightless, with still room to spare). Its pedal assist mind you not fully electric, but i think you guys might enjoy it, if you want the feeling of a brisk walk after a meal, that gets the lazy bones and blood circulating again without breaking a sweat...and covering longer distances still - mine tops out at about 22miles. But again, ive used it on commutes (rain and snow, without worry abt the salt, water and rust). And the storage space is akin to my rs19. Try to be more in control of the EUC. You are the master. You tell it what to do. Do it with smoothness. You are taking it for a ride, it doesn't take you for a ride. It's like riding a horse. The horse has to listen to your commands and react to you. Not the other way around.

    The "dominant leg" thing is a myth, IMHO. At some point, I purposefully switched my default mounting leg. Now I can mount either way and at times I am not even sure anymore which would be my preferred leg. It's all a question of perseverant practice with the "weaker" leg until it becomes the stronger one. Another point to mitigate fatigue could be to not lift the body weight with one leg but do the vertical upward movement after both legs are on the pedals.

    • @GreenwithAnvy
      @GreenwithAnvy  3 года назад

      Gosh... you must have great coordination if you can mount with both legs. 😳 Just curious, are you left-handed or ambidextrous?
      You’re right though. Just gotta practice and persevere! I’m definitely gonna try to use my left leg. That would help so much. Thanks so much for the help!! take care ☺️

    • @shoakman
      @shoakman 3 года назад

      I wouldn't say it's a myth. Skateboarders, snowboarders, surfers etc have long had reference to dominant legs. If you can switch your stances though that's awesome
