    Thanks as always Maarten. For someone like me who shoots equal amount of video and stills, I do think the dynamic range improvements and upgraded IS, make it a worthwhile upgrade from my XT3. On the video front few competitors imo, but for stills, full frame seems to be pulling me back as iq, compression and overall look of the images still seems to have an added level of beauty and art to them.

    Great video Maarten. Most awaited video for an xh1 user. 🙂
    Like: very fast sensor, improved grip, new battery, upgraded specs overall.
    Don't like: same IQ almost from xt2 (no real upgrade), flippy screen, different media type slot, same small d-pad and old top LCD (no gfx50s ii version), still no sensor cover option...and, price! X-H1 became famous on the market while going low on price. Here you have similar price to R6, A7iv, and so on. Maybe they're not on par with some Xh2s specs but still very very effective cameras.

      Thanks, always nice to see your avatar, always a pleasure to read your kind words. Your comments are all valid - in my mind fast burst and improved stabilization would be the major considerations, but for many it’s the film sims that will push them. Otherwise, wait to see what the X-H2 brings.

    As always, thank you for the immensely detailed and time intensive efforts.
    I would love to see a test of if/how the 16-55 and 50-140 focus rings can be adjusted for their speeds in the setting shown at 24:00 . Unless that's something limited to PZ lenses for now. But considering the XF lenses are all electronically coupled, it would be nice to have this option for our favorite still lenses. It's the only reason I still use my legendary Sigma 17-50 with an adapter when shooting video. (Not the best focus ring feedback versus the 18-35 but fits my budget) I hate manual focusing with the Fuji lenses.

      I would think battery life is one of the easier aggravations to overcome (by buying a second battery). On the other hand, improved stabilization, faster burst, and new video features aren’t as easily remedied.

    Hello Maarten ... Joachim here from Germany ...
    thanks for this comparison! It´s greate like all your videos. I love them. I habe the x-h1, and I don´t need the x-h2 S. 4K 30 is realy enough. I have also the x-t3 . It´s also enough. Sometimes I want more megapixel for cutting photos. So I wait for the next cameras from fuji. the x-h2 should have 40 megapixel. I wait for the comparison. But also I think next year some big cameras will following. I think no new camera makes always better photos. Faster, more features and any other things are helpfull. Yes. But a realy good photo need not more features - need only better eyes and ideas. So my mind.

      For me, it’s an upgrade I’d definitely make. However, if battery life, burst rate and the video modes don’t do it for you - the X-H1 remains a fine camera. It’s not a toggle - although that would be an improvement and Fujifilm may change that in firmware.

    So detailed, thanks very much Maarten! The only question I had that didn’t seem to be answered was a very specific one - How are the dials compared to other Fujifilm cameras? I enjoyed/didn’t notice the dials really on X-T2, X-Pro2, X100V. Nice and smooth rotation, somewhat dampened, subtle clicks. X-T3 and X-T4 however drive me nuts. They feel cheap and slow, they loudly clicky-clack as you turn them, and they just annoy me. It’s been too long since I had the X-H1, so I can’t recall how those were, but it’d be nice if X-H2s goes back to smoother, “nicer” feeling dials! 😊

      While the prices won’t be stable forever, the style of the X-H1’s physical controls and the fact that the image sensor is only a generation or two behind means its not losing as much value as its four year old status would suggest. In a way, the X-H2s is a re-vector of the H series, not an upgrade.

    Thank you so much for this. I am an X-H1 shooter mainly with manual / vintage lenses, so naturally I rely on focus peaking and can't imagine living without "punching in"; with the removal of the punch-in feature to dial in focus how would /could you do this quickly on the 2s? Thank you in advance!

    • @MaartenHeilbron

    • @chasingvenusfilmarts
      @chasingvenusfilmarts 2 года назад

      @@MaartenHeilbron Precisely, this is my concern, being that there are no electrical contacts with vintage lenses used via adapters, there isn't a way for that feature (which I loathe anyway) to be used. Punching in, locking focus, and punching back out is my filming style. I don't use the auto-focus check feature- and keep it turned off with my XF native lenses- because I'm often adjusting exposure manually by turning my filters and it doesn't take much to engage the zoom-in. Really annoying for my personal style of shooting. I can't imagine Fuji wouldn't have thought of this issue for shooters like myself... but if there isn't a way to manually punch in and out at my desertion this particular model would be as useful as a beautiful brick for me. haha. When I list the things I actually use on the XH1 camera I soon realise the answer is not much compared to all the gizmos & useless things that are provided on the XH1, they are just not required and that also applies to other makes of camera. I shoot manual with vintage lenses, I don't use video at all and I own one digital lens 16mm that I've never used. The point I'm trying to make is, it would be nice if Fuji just made an all manual camera B&W without being over engineered. Hmmm where have I heard that before, Leica M10. But without the silly price tag.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Год назад

      Although you may not use them, that does not make them useless. Potentially, a day will come when you realize the value in one or more. In the meantime, they don't interfere with your use of the camera in the workflow you prefer.
      However, I do agree, and have from time to time encouraged Fujifilm to make a basic camera that doesn't include video and keeps the feature set to a minimum. The issue is that because the hardware already has those features, it's unlikely to reduce the cost, which means the camera won't be competitively priced - unless you compare it to Leica.
