  • In this episode of Dirtcheapdaily, Aaron welds up the Legacy rear subframe to mount an IRS Ford 8.8 inch differential.
This is part of the rear wheel drive conversion on the 2004 Legacy outback so we can drift it without breaking it!

What a find! I just measured up my spare 2005 Legacy rear subframe which is pretty similar to these earlier subframes and found that it would fit actually very well in my S10 for independent rear suspension. I have a few videos for that project on my channel. The rear end ratios arent a great match for the front differential ratios available for the Chevy, so I was thinking a 8.8 would be the perfect way to upgrade this differential.
Great work! I'll be looking into this further.

Glad to see your channel doing so well!
I may have to do a similar mod in the future.
Not sure if you have seen my V10 Impreza idea.
    Gonna be a wild ride!
Just wish I was as good at getting work done quickly as you.

There's a canadian guy with a v12tt subaru, I just recently grabbed an 01 outback gt that if I can't get the title for it may become this spring/summers project

@@802Garage So I actually had the WRX on the backburner for a while, but I recently started cracking back into it. I'm going LS/CD009 though. I did the Japanese V8 thing in my Nissan Hardbody, and while it was fun, there's no arguing the market for LS stuff here in the US. I'm throwing together a 5.3 currently, and there's a fellow that makes a nice tubular front subframe for Subarus to swap in an LS, so I've been talking to him about that. I'll probably do some update videos later this year when I have some real progress.

@@SavageMotoring Very nice! Yes definitely can't argue with American engine parts availability, hahaha.

I was crying laughing watching you drilling that crooked plate (been there). Can't wait to see how it comes out!

While you have the crossmember out, it's worth looking into replacing the mounting bushings with solid aluminum or poly. My stock rubber mounts twist/flex enough in my rwd BD that the driveshaft rubs the "mustache" bar

Whats the plan on axles? I heard you're using 2 of the shorter axles...I had the same idea because they're about 1" different. Specifically, what's the plan for the outboard joint to match up with the Subaru splines. I know this is a few years old but this is why we share our process. Thanks!

just run across your video I like what your doing …. pinion angle needs to match output of the transmission angle … if transmission angle is 3 degrees down then pinion angle needs to be 3 degrees up.... Just saying

      Price, availability, aftermarket, durability.
Mainly price though. I picked up an LSD 8.8 for $50 this last weekend.
