When I had my encounter with our lord and savior and received that gift and the revelation that come with it I knew what I was doing wrong and what I had to repent and leave behind in my old life . I used to listen to a little bit of everything but mostly rock heavy metal stuff like that. Once I received Jesus into my heart I had that discernment of that the music was just deceiving me and furthering my anger . I decided to get rid of it completely. Why not sing just for the lord I don’t listen to music that can make me happy with the lyrics I get my happiness from the lord ❤️

Music can be used for good or for bad. It is like everything else, you have to cherry pick the good things and leave behind waste. You cannot assume that a particular musician is all good or all bad. Some songs have a good positive effect while others open a door to temptation.

Cornerstone Television Network I thought he had a very balanced Biblical answer! So many Christians are either black or white. With music.... just like any other art form which includes tv, art, movies... if the message brings you closer to God/Jesus then it is from Him but of course if it causes someone to stumble... just like our words or actions then it is not of God or it is sin. This was really of interest to me because back in the early 80's I actually burned all my secular vinyl because a well meaning Pastor told me it was ALL evil. He actually told me that demons lived under the plastic protective covers. He told me there were demons in my earrings, that wearing make-up was a sin... etc. I was such a mess from that man and was damaged for years. I believe Christians... especially Pastors/teachers carry a big responsibility when they decide to present truth and they need to be careful that they aren't causing people to stumble from the legalism that is not from Jesus. So bottom line.... many things are sin... often things that we think are not. Thank you! Blessings.

Yes. God knows your heart. That is the real test. I started learning guitar in my middle age and everything I like is either rock, metal, or country...obviously i LOVE Christian music because it is getting SO much better as well. But when you pick up a guitar, the first songs available to build your chops would be clearly secular music. I practice Ozzy, Metallica, ZZ top, old-school country, you name it. I just steer clear of the ones with a bad message. Having said that: I do practice some 'not so good' message songs purely for the riffs, but I don't sing the lyrics, that's not what I'm after. Practicing secular music has made me a better CHRISTIAN musician. Period. Plus, MANY secular musicians are glorifying God by getting to know him, and REAL country music will NEVER leave it's gospel roots. Again, God knows our hearts, and his Holy Spirit speaks. Just listen to Him. And make SURE to set aside time EVERY day for praise and worship He deserves; read your Bible, and you WILL grow. We're ALL a work in progress and praise God for his grace and patience. OH, and it's okay to have pride in being a musician and honing your craft. It is a gift from God that you can do such things at all. Just stay humble and seek his face!

Having had this, or working toward this, you will be able to answer such questions yourself. It's so simple, a child can understand the true meaning of the Gospel, but we, as humans, have a tendency to try too hard, thus confusing the message. The Law was a simple mirror that shows us time and again: WE CAN'T DO IT...but Jesus did it, and so THAT'S what needs to be the focus...Not whether a cold beer or coffee that's too strong is 'a sin.' Come, as a child, and seek His face...You'll get there...and if your church is not preaching the Gospel EVERY Sunday, find another one...Keep pure in heart as you can, and keep giving Him the glory and the power of your life. Is it Okay for a Christian Believer
    to Listen to Secular Music?
    by David J. Stewart | May 2017
1st Corinthians 7:29, “But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none... And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.”
Yes, I do believe that it is acceptable to the Lord for believers to listen to some secular music. As Christian believers, we are still a part of the world around us. Most of my web visitors were also raised up in our American culture. I recognize three types of music:
    RELIGIOUS
    SECULAR
    WORLDLY
Most Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is just pseudo religious garbage. So you could further categorize between pseudo religious verses Christian music if you wanted.
Not all secular music is bad. For example: George Strait sings some great songs, like “I Saw God Today.” The song is about his daughter being born, and he sees God in the gift of life. It's a beautiful song. But that doesn't mean I approve of all of Mr. Strait's music, such as his bad song, “Overnight Male” or his adulterous song “Seashores Of Old Mexico.” These songs promote sexual immorality. These are worldly songs. These are very different than George's song “I Saw God Today.” Do you see the difference? So, yes, I do think it is acceptable for a Christian to listen to secular music, but should abstain from worldly music.
James Taylor's music is beautiful. I think it is acceptable to hear songs like “How Sweet It Is” and “You've Got A Friend.” I like Don William's song “I Believe In You.” Examples of worldly music would be Rod Stewart's “Do You Think I'm Sexy” and Madonna's “Like A Virgin,” which openly promote sexual immorality.
Also, we need to discern between groups that are serving the Devil verses listening to some of their acceptable songs. Some people would argue that to listen to any of their songs means supporting the whole caboodle. I don't think so. I love the song “Til There Was You” by The Beatles. Does that mean that I support the Beatles? Never! They are of the Devil. Churches ought not play their music, because then the church would be sponsoring it. But if you personally want to listen to “Til There Was You” in your backyard at a barbeque, I do not think it is sinful. Do you see the difference? Dr. John R. Rice (1895-1980) used to read Zane Grey (1872-1939) novels. But Zane Grey was an adulterous heathen involved in Hollywood. Does that mean Dr. Rice endorsed everything about Zane Grey? Of course not. Dr. Rice just enjoyed reading western novels.
I like singing hymns on Sunday at church. I enjoy the depth of theological meaning in the old hymns. But I like hearing Hawaiian, Country and other secular music during the week. I like many secular songs. I'm not as conservative when it comes to music as are some believers. I like all kinds of music, but stay away from heavy metal and music that promotes an evil spirit. I am a hobbyist musician and love all kinds of music. I think as believers we need to discern between music that is secular verses worldly.
Clearly, “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC and “Running With The Devil” by Van Halen are of the Devil. No Christian should listen to these kinds of songs. Nothing AC/DC or Van Halen sings is acceptable. Contrawise, I also really don't care for church music myself. I like instrumentation and steel guitars, because I play them. I like a bass and some drums. Music is a passion for me, which I continually thank God for enabling me to do. Please don't misunderstand, I love singing at church, and harmonizing while singing; but given the choice, I'd rather hear Jerry Byrd playing his album “On The Shores Of Waikiki” on his steel guitar any day! That's just me.
At the same time, preachers must take a Biblical stand against the dangers of ALL worldliness, rebellion and influences that corrupt our youth. There are many Country songs that I like, which would not be appropriate for a church service, but I think would be fitting for a barbecue. There are many variables to consider. Music is a powerful medium through which the human spirit is influenced. Satan fully knows this. There is music that I like by AC/DC, Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne and Van Halen, but I do not listen to it, because it negatively influences my spirit.

Isaak Flett So you are going to give Satan the glory for all the music in the world that doesn't have any lyrics with the word "Jesus" in it? I disagree and doubt that you even listened to the pastors in this video especially the first one. It depends on the message... the content. I'm sorry but listening to the Beatles sing "And I love her" is not a sin. I was like you once... I burnt all my 70's and 80's records in a bonfire and I deeply regret that I did that. On that day... Satan got the Glory not God because I let lies tell me to take the beautiful gift that God gave man and burn it! Just like everything else... there is balance and it's a personal relationship with Jesus that will change your heart and tell you what to listen to and what not to listen to. Legalistic Christianity has done so much damage to people. You need to check your heart and get to know God... the beautiful Creator that puts gifts in man.

I will tell you that a sin is doing bad things while knowing that what you are doing is bad. And that's why you see kids doesn't have sins because they don't know about it yet.
In conclusion, if you listen to music and your heart tells you that it's bad, then don't continue listening it,or you will be sinning in that case. And if you heart doesn't feel anything about a song then you good to listen it.

And thats because I keep a strong mind and know that the evil flowing through the lyrical context will not corrupt me. I believe in the gospel and I know Jesus loves me. I listen to it primarily for the instrumentation. Stating your mind about certain secular topic is just an art form in the material world, and the idea of art is a gift given to us by God. It allows us to appreciate the material world through so many different perspectives that dont include our own, yet art can be interpreted in our own seperate ways, and we can choose to ignore certain aspects of an art form if we dont deem them fit in our lifestyle, yet appreciate other details and thing about that SAME art form. Its not a sin to experience art, but it can be a sin if you perceive it the wrong way. And thats on the power and ability to resist the forces of darkness on yourself. God bless 🙏

I also look at the fact that that you should not be legalistic to shun everything either. I view music the same way I view TV and holidays celebrations. We as believers have to understand just because a song or film may not say or have Christanity next to it does not mean it is evil. Even the hymns of the church were written by heathens.People like to quote the scripture that says you can't serve God and mammon when it comes to the secular music subject. The bible also says in Phillipians 4:8 Whatsoever is pure and of good report and have any good value to think on these things. My answer to this is if the song no matter if it is R&B, Pop, or Rock and it advocates uplifting messages that the scriptures condone it's not a sin listen to it. But if it is promoting the filth and sins of the world then we do not need admire it.That is the reason why the bible says in Psalms 97 :10 He that loves the Lord hates evil. It also says in Roman 12:2 Do not be confirmed to world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind for the same reason.

i personally agree with one of the first comments that said that if your heart doesn't tell you anything about being wrong about the music you're listening to, you're good. i'm open to hear others' opinions.
I didn't know this stuff if it wasn't for one of my friends who is Muslim and told me that Muslims and Christians have similar "rules". in fact even for Christians listening to certain music is wrong.
Since yesterday i've been do some researches and i got to this video, and i'm glad i've been hearing different people's opinions which were low-key similar.
In my humble opinion, we all cannot know for sure what is wrong and what is not, because it can be relative and changing based on the situation. For example if someone who is highly depressed commit suicide, I'm sure God will not abandon him/her but try to save His child.
At this point I believe that there are there are some stages of our life that we somehow go through at the end.
For example adolescence. This is a really delicate stage of our life when we are mostly rebels especially against our parents and sometimes even society. I'm a 17 year-old and a lot of my contemporaries smoke, use drugs, get drunk and so on. Personally I do not do any of these stuff and I am not so sure that these kids are committing a sin (I AM NOT SURE because i still don't know much about the Bible, so correct me if I am stating something wrong) and I respect their choices even if I high-key do not share them, and they know, but I just think it's their stuff, as long as it doesn't effect me I can enjoy their company without "throwing them away".
But that friend told me that even all of this stuff is a sin because it's "damaging" your body which before yours is God's creation (and I low-key agree with this statement).
The fact is that society if growing so fast and everything is changing, there are a lot of things that were a scandal ages ago and that now are considered legit (like divorce, abort etc.)
Sometimes I agree think that this "Old Book" needs a little refresh to somehow "follow" our time, so I question myself a lot too.
For example, going back to the adolescence thing, we know that most of teens in their blossoming age finding out their bodies masturbate, who more who less who not at all. In my PERSONAL opinion (after past a year reflecting on this subject) I realize that this is not something too ""sinful"" because it is considered normal; because it's a stage of our lives that will vanish after a certain age.
Now, going back to the main topic of the video, I personally think that if a certain music makes you happy, feel relaxed, distress then it's okay to listen to it. But there are somehow a lot of songs dealing about using drugs, a lot (mostly) american songs dealing about sexuality, songs' choreographs that have sensual moves etc. well, what you wanna do? Don't listen to music? I personally can't do such a thing, because of the previous reasons.
It is not true that if I listen to something that has in the lyrics something doing with drugs i'll become corrupted, not at all in my case (same with the smoking stuff and sexual perversions). I am not even a native English speaker so naturally I won't get completely everything of what lyrics is speaking about (plus I listen to italian songs, which is my country, and Korean songs - same here: I won't understand everything they say, I just enjoy music). So what about just enjoying and feeling music? If that makes you feel good and stops thoughts passing through your head giving you stress?
If we follow every single word of the commands then what about the one stating not to kill? (in italian "You shall not murder" was translated into "Do not kill") Don't we eat meat? Don't we kill mosquitoes or cockroaches? (You see what I mean?)
Another personal thought I would discuss is about dancing.
We all know that hip-hop, latina, classical dance classes are very popular nowadays. A lot of different dance style are studied by millions of people (I've been a dancer as well), so what about dancing in a certain way? Is it considered sinful? Maybe some moves are a bit hard, at the border line but if the aim of the dancer is to show off how much passion and effort he/she has put throughout his/her studies, if every of his/her moves
where sweated days, months because he/she likes this discipline, because he/she likes to dance... then what? Should it be banned? I don't agree with that. I personally think there must be a equilibrium:
if all of the choreography is based on twerking I agree that this is sexual, this is "tempting" and make someone we know what, but if the choreography has a little bit of this, a little bit of that, a little bit of twerk, a little bit of pop moves, how can it be considered sinful? How can I be considered sinful if I dance o a song that makes me feel confident, that raise my autostime, that makes me no more feel like a sheep in a bunch of wolves, how?
I think we all need to have autostime and dancing, acting and so on help us a lot (especially when you're a teen). So how can a dance teen be considered sinful under this point of view?
In my opinion this teen is legally showing his/her God's gift: he/she is showing his/her abilities, he/she's showing what God gifted to him/her.
How can this be considered a sin? If he/she makes it look in a bad malicious way, then, okay, maybe it can be considered like that, but what if it is not? it is just made it like a normal thing?
I maybe be wrong but I feel like this should be considered under different point of views and then classified as okay or not, because of everything I wrote up.
I just think that it's okay to make a mistake, the society after-all makes us doing that by foce of circumstances a lot of times. I believe that if we pray God, He will light up our hearts and make us see the right path to follow. If we trust our heart, we will not be caught in the wrong path, if we do something in good faith. And, sometimes, if we fail, it's okay, we are human, we can't be perfect, we're weak, we fall, we go up: we just need to find strength in the Lord and He will save us from falling again ❤

Christ will guide you in the right direction, don't be worried, he will provide just as long as you acknowledge his principles. The world wants you to be distracted because the enemy doesn't want you to know the truth, that Jesus Christ is the way and the truth of the world, believe in him and see it for yourself. There are days when I bump that Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Dmx, Lana Del Rey, Demi Levato, Eminem, Elton John, Nas, Wiz. Etc.... You get the point... And then there is days when I listen to Lauren Daigle, Kirk Franklin, Third Day, Jeremy Camp... which Most would call “Christian music”... Do I need to cut out all artist except “Christian Music”? From my life? Should I never write any more lyrics, create my own music, and perform it because every song isn’t about God or the Bible??? The answer is no Ladies and Gentlemen. The answer is no.

Just remember, it doesnt matter if you go to church twice a week, pray for every single event of your day, serve and love your master in every way you can...its not enough if the music you listen to doesnt exist primarily to praise the almighty god. He gave you EVERYTHING and if you don't stop to thank him at least once every 10 minutes then you are a sorrowfully selfish, secular, sinner...Now some people might be thinking 'what a needy god that must be' ...well I must tell you that thinking that way is a sin... But as far as that secular music goes you must be afraid!! We are so spiritually fragile that any lyric about something other than OOOH LORD YOU ARE MY KING!! OOOOH YEA YEA YEA YOU ARE MY SAVIOR JEEEEEESUS will surely destroy us. Just remember, any mention of sex or drugs means you must never ever listen to it even though its probably better sounding. Oooh god please protect us from this scary music!!! Its Satan! Hes trying to get us! We cant decide on our own what to listen to!!! We are sooo weak but through CHRIST we are strong. And since we are so weak, that means any instinct we have about what to listen to or about anything contradictory to the GOOD BOOK must surely be wrong. Dear God, i pray that we may continue to fear you and praise you and please you, and that our future generations can continue to be good little sheep, in your name, amen

Nope it isn’t a sin. So… anyone want a coffee?
Apparently, I just gave a difficult question the easiest answer. My late Dad was a CofE vicar. I grew up knowing to guys who later became Archbishop of Canterbury, I know a vicar (now an Arch Bishop who once got his meds mixed up, had a glass of wine with a meal and woke up in a skip three miles from his house.
Twinkle twinkle little star is secular, old MacDonald is secular, Frozen is secular, let there be love is secular, that’s amore is secular the list goes on for miles. Don’t be close minded.

The topic is secular music, and then you start talking about lyrics and messages. Words are not music.

@@solaade8297 Musically, there is no difference. Music is music. It can be classified by genre, Classical, Country, Rock, Jazz, etc..... But, any music called "Gospel" is called that because of the words, and it can be played in any of the previously mentioned musical genres.

Eniola Adelusi The words. The instruments are the same. The words are ARE different. What about music without lyrics? This legalistic Christian nonsense is the reason so many unsaved souls dislike Christianity.

Don Mcc melody is music, if you don’t have a melody you don’t have a song regardless of the type of words. So let me ask you all this: how do we differentiate a secular melody from a Christian one????

Answer: NOPE. Christianity has so many rules because of the cavemen who wrote them, kept changing them/adding to them/erasing things/editing, etc, in order to control you. It's that simple. Listen to music that speaks to your heart and soul. Don't make this complicated and stressful to your life.

Anne murray is secular music but it's not sinful have some discernment hip hop rock roll is awful and sinful but motown music the early stuff alot of it is not sinful but it became sinful with marvin gaye as he got older when he started doing songs like sexual healing and I heard it through the grapevine but his early music is not sinful. Ccm most of it is sinful because it has a rock roll sensual sound the lyrics matter so does the sound the lyrics should be primary not the best it's like dancing there's sensual dancing and there is dancing for the Lord and if you dance for the Lord like the Jewish christians did it's not sinful african christians dance and nothing sinful or sensual use Godly discernment

+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
The man in Luke 16:24 cries: ". . .I am tormented in this FLAME."
In Matthew 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,. . ."
Revelation 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE." And please believe and repent of all of your sins and be baptized by the Holy Spirit before it is too late, you will never know when the time of your death or Jesus' return will come 🙏! Amen 🙏!
