What impresses me most in this performance is that he has been doing this for over 40 years. He has sung these exact words thousands of times. And he still finds the meaning in them, he still acts them out one by one, he still lets Jesus's prayer overwhelm him, take over his body and his mind. @@LusciousTwinkle A slightly delusional revolutionary? Brought up in a very strong catholic family. Now agnostic but Ted knocks me out every time with this song. So powerful and such a talent. The man brings me to tears. A great story just like many other fictional stories are when performed with such conviction. I often wonder his mind set after 40 years of performing as Jesus Christ.
I've seen Neely 9 times in this role and he was utterly amazing each and every time! Nine times and 30+ years between performances, Neely defines the role for me and I compare anyone else's performance to his. I've seen other artists attempt to keep their range as they age but Neely is a true master in this role.
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Jesus Christ Superstar in Augusta Maine on my 50th birthday and he was amazing in the role! This has always been my favorite musical and my sweet husband Gilson bought me 2 tickets and my daughter Angela who was in college came up to spend my birthday and go to the show with me! I will always treasure that time in my life..That was 9 years ago..We lost Gilson 2 years ago and I was a very lucky woman to have such a wonderful gift!
Ted Neeley, what an incredible and moving voice you have. You never age and neither does your voice. One of my very favourite albums of all time.. it still is . You are truly amazing. :)
I am in true amazement over this incredible artist,MR. NEELEY ! I have had the grand opportunity x 4 of seeing him in the last 3 decades. Unbelievable!
I think the emotion is greater now than ever. I am impressed that he has been able to keep this up. There is still power in his voice, even if it is a little rougher now than in his earlier years. Way to go, Ted Neeley. I will always be a big fan.
Wow! At the age Of 73 it was really amazing to hear him did that song again so wonderful im speechless i was so amazed when he did that movie 46 years ago and i still feel the same now. Thank you Mr. Ted Neeley 👏🙏🏻👍🏻
Ted Neely has portrayed Jesus Christ for over 40 years and has done so with all his heart and soul. I believe his reward will be to meet the one he has portrayed and The Savior's words will be, "Thank you, well done my child".
There's something that takes over Ted when he performs this song that is not of this world, that's why he's believable as a man in his 30's being in his 70's and having performed this for 4 decades, beyond amazing, a master class of artistry and emotion.
Wow I really didnt think he would hit THE note !...he made my jaw drop...loved this back in 73 and still love it to this day..so sad Carl Anderson passed away though as he was superb aswell!
I SO would've married him in 1973 and I would NOT be disappointed 44 years later with the shape he's kept himself in, both physically and vocally. What a dude.
Tom Sistermans it’s a bit difficult to do after singing for so long. pretty amazing he can still do it!! it takes a lot of technique and skill and he still puts in so much emotion. i think we should appreciate mr neeley instead of criticizing him
@@devilfangz3623 mate, he doesn't make it to the note anymore, that's the problem, he has aged past this role, if he keeps playing it, it's on him and entirely justified to criticize him
I read that it has been said that Ted Neeley had some problems with his voice on the night he did it in 2006 but he still managed to perform this incredible song with so much power that even his fellow cast and crew members couldn't keep their eyes dry. But he truly is an amazing singer and performer. Jesus Christ Superstar is my favorite musical and Ted will always be my favorite Earth Jesus!
He had the flu during his 2006 performance from what I read. How he can still hit those same high notes as he did over 40 years ago is just amazing. Few singers’ voices hold up that long. Most have to sing in a lower key after so many years.

Incredible. A performer for the ages. You're the man, Ted.
Ted Neeley,, my best actor of Jesus Christ, ever,,, 👍👍👍
"Listen, surely I've exceeded expectations".......you sure have Ted! I saw you on Broadway FORTY FIVE YEARS ago as Jesus, and you're STILL killing it!!
it beyond belief!! FROM 12 YEARS OLD I'M NOW 56 IT NEVER GETS OLD I WILL WATCH THE ENTIRE MOVIE AGAIN TONIGHT BUT MY GOD HAS THIS MAN BEEN BLESSED NO WAY HE DOESN'T KNOW THAT, HE GIVES HIS ALL TO GOD HE IS A TRUE BELIEVER ! U CAN'T BE SINGING THIS FOR THIS MANY YEARS GOD BLESS YOU TED!! I THANK GOD I HAVE SEEN U 3 TIMES IN 40 YEARS WHAT A MIRACLE!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS 2017 ITS ASTONISHING! I THOUGHT U RETIRED & NOW I SEE THIS.. PS. I CAN'T EVEN KNEEL DOWN ON 1 KNEE LIKE THAT ANYMORE & I'M 56
Thank you for sharing the glory of Ted with us :)
오래오래 사세요. 테드옹 ㅜ
JINSOO KIM
1:48 song starts.
And he still reaching the high note: G5.
Awesome!
From The 70s to His 70s.
Brilliant.
Ted Neeley, what an incredible and moving voice you have. You never age and neither does your voice. One of my very favourite albums of all time.. it still is . You are truly amazing. :)
Incredible at 73! Ted you will be immortal!
I grew up watching Jesus Christ Superstar and boy he still gives a great performance! God bless Ted Neely, still going strong!
Ted will always be my earthly Jesus!
Donalyn Gross yup!
I hope he's a Christian.
Brian Book yes he is.
That's a good thing.
Brian Book who cares? Christ sure doesn't. I would prefer a Jewish Christ like the real one.
There's something that takes over Ted when he performs this song that is not of this world, that's why he's believable as a man in his 30's being in his 70's and having performed this for 4 decades, beyond amazing, a master class of artistry and emotion.
Oh my god, I teared right up, I can't believe this guy can still nail it at 73 (no pun intended)
A tingle of excitement spread through my body, with tears every time I watch Ted Neeley in this song!!! Thank you Ted!!!
Saw this show, still give me goosebumps, sitting in the first row just 20 feet away
Eternal Ted...
Jordi Vocals Gran Tes Neely
Wow I really didnt think he would hit THE note !...he made my jaw drop...loved this back in 73 and still love it to this day..so sad Carl Anderson passed away though as he was superb aswell!
I SO would've married him in 1973 and I would NOT be disappointed 44 years later with the shape he's kept himself in, both physically and vocally. What a dude.
OH MY GOD, I've just fallen in love with Ted Neeley all over again!!!!!
He is incredible!! Still after all of these years! I could watch him sing forever :)
The voice, the look, the intensity, the passion! Incredible!
He hit that high note in his 70s, and John Legend basically mumbeled his way through that at 40. I think that tells you all you need to know.
He didn't hit the note by the way, it's false
Tom Sistermans what do you mean it’s false?
@@MikasaOkumura out of tune
Tom Sistermans it’s a bit difficult to do after singing for so long. pretty amazing he can still do it!! it takes a lot of technique and skill and he still puts in so much emotion. i think we should appreciate mr neeley instead of criticizing him
@@devilfangz3623 mate, he doesn't make it to the note anymore, that's the problem, he has aged past this role, if he keeps playing it, it's on him and entirely justified to criticize him
There’ll never be another for this role again. Saw JCS 30 years ago, he’s still capturing the power. He is touched by a higher force!
74 years old here and singing like this....damn!!!
He's still got a great voice. Very well done & Thanks.
how on earth did he actually get better compared to his 2006 performance
Ramon Nario I said same thing. He’s been perfecting it for years and the makeup/hair is better too!
Ted ages like a fine wine
Always chokes me up seeing Ted perform. Legend
BEST PERFORMANCE EVER !!! This expression of his body and face... The impressionable sound and timing of his voice. This can't be done better: The more i see and listen to this, the more i'm getting fascinated of this 'once in a lifetime'- performance. @AndreiSosna: You have recorded a really masterpiece ! Thx for sharing with us :-)
73..is not old..people..he's amazing..always loved him..talented and made for this roll
amazing had the pleasure of seeing him live twice just truly amazing
and he still has it
..Have not expected to meet here Grigori Rasputin
Fucking legend. Nobody can ever compare to his YEARS of performing JCS
I am amazed with how much power and emotion he still brings to this. More so in many ways. He's just so good.
Ho visto questo show tantissime volte... tutte le volte qui in Italia io c'ero! Fantasmagorico, meraviglioso, incredibile, unico, grande DIOOOOOOOOOOOO TED NEELEY!!!!!!!!!!!!
God has truly blessed Mr Ted Neeley. He has been singing this role since 1973 He is my musical hero, all others pale in comparison.
I can't believe he has been doing this for decades and doesn't sound bored, tired, etc. His voice is still fantastic, too.
Ted Neeley is utterly awesome.
That's a word that's overly used these days. But not in this case...
Cant wait to see him in 2018!!
Simplemente un bendecido
Still is the one and only superstar... Bravo...!!!
He owns the role and what a voice!
Agree! But here's another great version. ruclips.net/video/CUVd87rXGVo/видео.html
Best actor/singer to play Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar!
정말 대단합니다. 너무 감동적이고요.
Thanks Ted, I seen you live. So cool. You are a Christian, it made it perfect ! Love you Brother ! The Holy Spirit moves through all this evil in 2020. Thank you Christ Jesus. !
Amazing performance by a true artist. Thanks for sharing!
That was a fantastic performance. I simply love it. His voice is so fantastic.
I love Ted Neeley for the role he made....he was genuinely touched by God!
I had the priviledge to see this very stage performance 3 years ago in my hometown. Ted Neeley still has a set of pipes on him.
He needs a life time Oscar award. Why this has not been done?
