    A few things:
    1. Stephen did really well in the human Ganon fights. I got my butt whooped quite hard by them (but I also was too stingy to merge any +50 attack horns 😅)
    2. The music gets so good in the final phase
    3. The final phase is just Link helping Dra-ganon pop some zits

    The implication of Purah being with everyone else in the post-credits cutscene is that she's essentially the closest thing to this era's Sage of Spirit-aka Mineru's successor.

    • @AnachronisticALLOS2401
      @AnachronisticALLOS2401 7 дней назад +4

      Yeah I'd agree with that. When I first saw Mineru in the memory cutscenes, I was like "Oh man is she the Zonai equivalent of Purah?" 'cause she seems to be a bit of a scientist like Purah is. She even has a quirky head accessory, like Purah's goggles.

    The comment Stephen made at 31:51 about how we won't have Ultrahand again aged like milk 😂 Echoes of Wisdom's Bind ability would love to have a word with you.
    Thank you for the long and great journey you took us on with this playthrough. Thank you, Dan, for your editing and adding your much needed and hilarious commentary. Thank you, fellow mods, for making Friday streams as great as they were during this project (and, of course, always are). Thanks to Hayley, Paul, Thomas, Chaz & all other vlog veterans who wrote the hilarious recipes we all got to see during the stream breaks. Thanks to Andy & co for running the Discord Bingo games on Fridays to make it an extra special and fun experience for viewers.
    Until the next Zelda game. ❤

    12:54 little piece of trivia: you can go the entire first part of the Ganon fight (and I assume the rest of the game lol) without obtaining the Master Sword. When the cutscene changes, a cutscene will play of Link pulling the Sword out of Zelda's dragon head.

  • @Lazer_Specter

    I love that even before the fight they were talking about Tulin being the best sage. Everyone loves Tulin.
    This has also gotta be my favorite Zelda final boss because of the whole atmosphere, presentation, music, everything. It's all just so good. Even Ganondorf's stupidly long health bar 😂 it made me laugh the first time I saw it and I was waiting for when Stephen and Mal got to see it.
    I haven't watched the entire series since I've yet to 100% the game myself but from what I did watch, this let's play was really entertaining, just like the Breath of the Wild one.

    • @GuyYouMetOnline
      @GuyYouMetOnline 7 дней назад +2

      Tulin doesn't let anything get withing a mile of Link without taking an arrow to the head. And I love that the expert archer actually loves up to said expertise in battle. And it's especially notable because you're likely to do a fair bit of archery yourself; usually the player will outperform the 'expert' ally, but here that's much harder, because Tulin gets ALL of the headshots.

    • @Lazer_Specter
      @Lazer_Specter 7 дней назад +1

      @@GuyYouMetOnline yeah every fight I've been in I've heard that little "ping!" without even drawing my bow. Tulin's a real one. Definitely the sage to go for first because he's so helpful in taking enemies down early on and is great at stunning stronger ones. His boost is also the only champion's ability I find not a hassle to use.

  • @IceMaverick13
    @IceMaverick13 8 дней назад +7

    Yeah, this Ganondorf is wicked easy even if you just go in with a raw Master Sword and full Cosplay Link gear from your favorite classic green tunic collection.
    It's literally trivial if you fuse a strong 50+ weapon attachment AND take a +Attack effect in. I feel like the majority of players are going to be fighting Ganondorf with a minimum of like half of the heart containers the game has and even with only half the hearts that you can possibly have, Ganondorf is basically not a threat in terms of damage. You don't really need food or anything for his fight because he might deal like 6 hearts of damage on a good day.
    He had great flavor, but I wish they made him actually, genuinely tough, instead of more an interactive cinematic finale.

    • @LegendofKal
      @LegendofKal 8 дней назад +2

      That's why I feel the Wild final bosses are lacking as proper boss material. The open-emded nature of this new era of Zelda really hampered boss design, as I feel classic Zelda bosses, even final ones, had that bit of puzzle solving by having to make them vulnerable (like in SS, ripping off Koloktos' arms with the whip, then using his swords against him)

      I enjoyed the exploration and freedom of these games, but the dungeons and story are quite lacking. Echoes by no means have the best dungeons or story in the series, but they are an improvement over these games while also having an open world freedom. I do hope the developers took the story criticisms to heart and continue to improve.

    This is it, the final outing! And with it, my final remarks and trivia comment!
    Gonna be long, but probably won't be as long as the BotW one.
    As well, I have compiled a sort of travel brochure of everything the grandparents missed.
    Catch it in my reply to this comment below! (Slightly-filtered spoiler warning) Alright, normal-but-long comment time.
    --
    1:58 The grandparents may not have realized, but the gloom-y root things seen all over the Depths have been linking back here to Ganon--he is absorbing the Gloom to rehydrate himself
    3:07 Ganondorf is wielding the Gloom Sword--in fact, during this battle, he can wield any of the weapons the Phantom Ganons have had!
    5:01 (Ganondorf can actually wield the Demon King's Bow if you get too far away or attempt to stand out of his range; this is visible at 7:41)
    6:02 It's at this point that it's worth mentioning--reaching the final battle unlocks Ganondorf in the Character Profiles section of your menu, and beating his Demon King form or the Demon Dragon also adds his Demon King art to that screen. (It's only an extra paragraph or so of lore, but it's still a nice addition)
    6:20 "Afterimage", also known as Phantom Ganon 2.0! They're essentially Rehydrated Phantom Ganon (since the normal ones are based off of mummydorf's model) During this phase, the five sages will procedurally enter the room and help hold off the Phantoms while you focus on the real deal--either removing the Demon King's extra health or defeating all his Phantoms before him will trigger the next phase, where he knocks out the sages to make it a 1-on-1. (Highlighting this one since they were so focused on the Demon King that they didn't physically notice the sages entering, and finished that phase as soon as Mineru entered)
    8:03 For reference, Phantom Hourglass officially titled the Ganontennis as being volleyball
    14:05 (This stands to reason, since Ganon is the originating source of all Malice / Gloom in the world--presumably, not long after Rauru sealed him Below Hyrule Castle, he began emanating Malice everywhere, which slowly became Gloom between games)
    14:54 Breath of the Wild theme leitmotif! TotK's main themes love to reference it, probably leading from how TotK started as DLC3 for BotW before becoming its own game.
    17:09 (If only we had a Set Bonus that increased Skydive Mobility...)
    17:54 The logo for the game, as well as the majority of the Zonai architecture, alluded to and was all foreshadowing for this! The theme of two dragons, locked in an ouroboros; two opposing dragons facing off. It was there in the writing all along...!
    20:00 Breath of the Wild leitmotif, again!
    21:13 The grandparents didn't strongly react to it, but the ending cutscene strips all of Link's armor except for his pants. (To make Rauru's arm more visible for what happens next) So, unlike with BotW's ending, you can only customize 1/3 of Link for the ending cutscene. (And just like the "secret" ending of BotW, Link's outfit is fixed during the final cutscene)
    23:40 The Final Catch theme! It also integrates BotW's theme leitmotif _and_ Zelda's Lullaby! (And if you don't do anything, the sequence eventually restarts) It also perfectly mirrors the start of the game where Zelda fell and Link _couldn't_ catch her!
    25:00 I also believe this is the same pool of water you dive into when you first leave the Great Sky Island, which in BotW used to be a Bottomless Bog (known as the Bottomless Swamp) housing the one unique Skull Base of that game that really didn't have a purpose other than being a monster camp. Now it has significance!
    25:58 I pine for the day Stephen learns the significance of this sound effect, but I also know he won't remember by the time he gets there
    28:50 Something that probably also played a factor in the difference of final boss difficulty between BotW and TotK is that, Calamity Ganon was a mindless phantom of Ganon that was filled with a mishmash of every boss, while in TotK Ganondorf is a true warrior with focus and grit. Possibly a bit easier to focus on a more-centered villain and not Boss Time: Trivia Night Edition
    33:10 I'm on the team 100% voting for Stephen to eventually play Skyward Sword. Whether with Mal or not, whether on stream or not. I'm just interested in seeing it!
    33:41 I just wanna highlight two names on the English VA crew here--Cristina Vee, who voiced Tulin and I believe Hestu, also voiced 5-Volt in the recent WarioWare games and Shantae in 1/2 Genie Hero, while Sean Chiplock, who voices Teba and voiced Revali and the Great Deku Tree in the last game, now also plays the role of Kinger in The Amazing Digital Circus!
    35:37 & 36:48 One more Breath of the Wild theme leitmotif!
    36:02 (Zelda was also playable in the Hyrule Warriors games and technically Spirit Tracks, the CD-i game notwithstanding)
    37:16 RIP Kass, his wife and five children will miss him
    38:35 The grandparents didn't pursue it, but the floating star island monuments explain why the Skylands can float!
    43:50 Jokes half-aside, Link doesn't have Rauru's arm anymore, so in this scenario Yunobo would have to aim for water and hope he doesn't miss!
    44:52 For anyone hoping there was going to be an end-of-game Hero's Path retrospective, for some reason they did it _before_ going to face Ganon, unlike last time, and thus there was such a long pause delaying the Ganon fight that Stephen just told Dan to leave it out. Your best chance for seeing it is pursuing the VOD.
    -:-- A final candid comment, echoing partially something I said in a comment on the vlog day they beat the game--while yes, they beat the game, good job, playing it the same way they did for BotW really plays a disservice to how much Nintendo added to this version of Hyrule. They very barely interacted with not only many new additions, but just the world in general. They took a very thin path through the whole of Hyrule, missing out on many interesting sights and interactions spread throughout. So, if they pick up this game again, whether for content or for leisure, I strongly encourage immersing yourself into the game world more; think less about finishing your goals as soon as possible, and more about just enjoying the game and its world~

      *MISSED ACTIVITIES IN HYRULE:*
      - At least 5 new yet-unseen minigames; you can find them near the Outskirt Stable, on a cliff northwest of the Great Plateau, in Tanagar Canyon, and at the Gerudo Southern Oasis! Another is available in Lurelin following the reconstruction of the village, but only if you've been to Tarrey Town first!
      - Kilton in Tarrey Town (not to be confused with his brother Koltin) has a fun little side activity for folks who photograph monsters with the Purah Pad! You're not even required to do specifically what he asks for all the time!
      - Koltin in the Fang & Bone travelling shop balloon (not to be confused with his brother Kilton) has unique wares on sale in exchange for Bubbul Gems! As well, you do not need to get all the gems for all his wares--after a point, it becomes similar to the Gold Skulltulas in OoT!
      - If you want to get all of Koltin's goodies, find caves! Every unique cave (but certainly not all the wells) has a Bubbulfrog in it, and caves get marked with a check mark on your map when you have their frog! As well, rumor has it someone in the Stable Association knows where all the Cherry Blossoms are...
      - Be a true fashionista and obtain all the unique armor in the game! Buy all that the shop vendors have to sell! Find all of Misko the Bandit's stashes in the overworld! As well, there are treasure troves all over the Depths that have more special armor to find! Assemble a full wardrobe! (Fairy upgrades optional, though! Don't get discouraged!)
      - You found two statues that accept Poes in bargain for special wares--a small one in Lookout Landing, and a large one under the Great Plateau! But don't sleep on this yet, there are /four/ more Bargainer Statues you can find, each one incrementing what you can get from them! (Ask your local Bargainer Statue for hints on where to find the others! You may even already have one marked on your map that you haven't visited...!)
      - Talking of statues, previously in BotW, the Gerudo held the statues of the seven heroines in the Gerudo Desert highly, and they were even linked to a shrine--there's another set of statues in the Gerudo Shelter that, while not linked to a shrine, will reveal a secret about the Eighth Heroine…!
      - And, talking of the Eighth Heroine, their original statue harbors another secret…
      - Paraglider fabric may be entirely aesthetic, but this is a game about being stylish! You can find more unique fabrics around Hyrule by helping certain people! Sayge, the fabric-setter himself at the Hateno Dye Shop, can provide you several designs if you can get him photos of certain creatures, but you can find more special ones around the world! (Here's a special hint: Check the roof of the Zonai Temple of Time!)
      - You can discover the birth of a new vegetable in Hateno Village--just ask Mayor Reede for details!
      - Try out the Monster Masks that Koltin gives you, and Majora's Mask as well--you may just find that they make life easier for you when used right!
      - Remember that Puffshrooms, Muddle Buds, and Dazzlefruit can give you an edge in battle!
      - Every major settlement has a Zonaite Mine Forge under it, where there is always a Construct who will give you a new Schema Stone for Autobuild, and many of them also have forge shops where you can purchase Charges and Crystallized Energy in exchange for Zonaite! How do you get more Zonaite? Get Minecraftin' down there buddy! It's part of the game for a reason!
      - There are also some large friends in the Depths that might be willing to share Zonaite with you as well, if you play with them~
      - Want to find some Lynels? There's one under every Stable in the Depths except for one!
      - There are more special friends in the Depths if you explore more~ Some of them even hang out in coliseums that will reward you handsomely for completing them!
      - Every mountain and/or large structure of significance on the surface may have something interesting below it in the Depths! Explore and have a look!
      - Remember the Sensor+ if you want to find materials easier!
      - Instead of fusing things to arrows all the time, why not just try a traditional yeet with your bare hands now and then?
      - The Yiga Clan Hideout might let you in once you get all the armor pieces~ (no you haven't been in there at all yet)
      - The Thyphlo Ruins holds many mysteries... and you might just be able to solve some if you head back there now!
      - Try experimenting with Fuse more! There are surprising combinations and functions you can discover, not only with the materials, but with the base weapons! (Don't judge by the number, folks!)
      - Need to get an enemy out of your face, no matter the cost? Try an Ancient Blade now and then! You don't even have to fuse it necessarily!
      - Consider Horses less as tools and more as friends! Enjoy the countryside!
      - For a fun bit of tourism, try physically visiting every separate Chasm! (If you've visited one, its name and an icon will be marked on the map!)
      - Of all the armor sets, the Glide Armor has a particularly interesting Set Bonus...!
      - You found special helmets pertaining to Riju and Yunobo, perhaps Sidon and Tulin have ones as well...!
      - Don't count out your friendly neighborhood sign man, Addison! He's a regular test of your building prowess with Ultrahand~
      - More dragons than Zelda and Ganon exist--three of them, in fact! (They were in the last game too) Try to find them and interact with them! You might be surprised at where they go, but you also may find them easier if you explore a broader path!
      - When posing in the Camera rune, you can hold down ZL while moving the left stick to unlock more poses! There are even unique poses for a few different equipment setups! (This was in BotW too!)
      - Want to know what a physics prop is called? The Fuse rune might just be able to tell you!
      - Try checking out the Character Profiles screen in the Purah Pad! It contains nice art of the important folk you meet, and updates the text as the story progresses! (It also means you have no excuse on forgetting who these people are!)
      - The cavern connected to Lookout Landing, behind the many layers of rock, holds some armor and some hidden lore! (Tired of breaking rocks? There may be better methods to do so that you have but don't realize you can use!)
      - You found all the Geoglyphs--I'm sure Impa would like to hear the news! She's probably back at the Forgotten Temple, still ruminating in the secret chamber...
      - The Yiga have set up all over the Depths--maybe you could learn something from them if you pursued all their bases!
      - And lastly, remember: Stop speedrunning, and just have fun~
