I always slide hop in multiplayer. I’m a returning player with suck6 aim but once in catfish I actually captured all 5 flags really fast as i outran all competition
Can you actually show us how to do a bunny hop step by step? I have looked through dozens of guides here on RUclips and none of them are detailed enough to fully explain how to do it. Not that these tips are appreciated, but I can't even get the basics down and I've been practicing for a few weeks. Thanks in advance.
Manabeast first jump and once your character is in the air press your crouch button immediately, after that you want to time your second jump so that once you hit the ground you are jumping. once you get that timing down you repeat it over and over again.
You're probably holding forward on your analogs, DON'T do that. To air-strafe and slide-hop you never want to be holding forward. You still have forward momentum in the air without your fingers on the analogs. It seems like like the opposite thing to do but its how it is done. That said its a simple as building momentum with a wall-run jumping(a double jump slows your momentum FYI), ducking mid-air and then the instant you hit the ground jump again....rinse and repeat. Just don't press forward on the analogs unless you've come to a stand still or are hitting a wall-run. Also remember that this is a pretty advanced technique, its tough to learn and even harder to be good with.
Manabeast strafe a lot more and use wall runs to gain speed when you slow down. Simply going straight isn't gonna do anything and make you slow down. If you pay attention to video you can see he is turning a lot while bhoping and not just going straight. Also try not to slide to much while hitting the ground because that will slow you down as well.
On PC one keybind change will change everything, turn Crouch from Toggle to Press to Crouch, Hold down the crouch button and just hit jump as you hit the ground... done!
It's an exploit of Titanfall 2 being on the source engine. But, the developers have endorsed this type of movement, so it's kinda part of the game at this point. You can kinda do the same thing in Team Fortress 2 with the soldier class. Granted, it's a very advanced technique.
*AFTERWORD* - Slide hopping with a controller or M+KB are fundamentally the same so these tips can be applied to any of you PC players out there. Is it possible to slide hop without a special controller or changing up the button layout? I play on Xbox and I want to know if there's a way to do this without completely changing all of my muscle memory or buying an expensive custom controller.
Tony good tutorial, but when doing tutorials like this I think it would really help a good chunk of your audience by adding in the button commands when giving examples, or when giving us the initial directions. Or if it would be easier, adding in a cam of your hands going through the motions so we know roughly what it visually looks like. A good example of someone implementing those things would be MySmashCorner who does Smash Brothers tutorials on certain techniques, and fundamentals for those who are looking to be a competitive Smash Bros. player. Of course we're not talking about Smash, but it gets what I'm talking about across if it didn't make any sense. Just some feedback for you, keep up the good work!
For Titanfall wannabes like myself if you run bumper, map crouch to a button like right bumper. The only default control scheme that works well is evolved which isn't for everyone including myself.
PJbottoms Any action that requires a player to remove their thumb from the right stick is disadvantageous no matter how good he is. Without playing claw, bumper jumper is a disadvantage compared to evolve, especially for players just learning. For players that don't like evolve, a modified bumper set up is better to learn on than a standard one because of its drawback.
Basically, to slide hop you sprint, jump, hold crouch, let go of sprint and walk(don't worry you won't lose speed) and keep holding crouch until you wall run or stop. When you hit the ground immediately jump.
I love this concept. I've tried it a few times but I'm not really great at it yet. Although I feel like an ass when I see all the devotion noobs doing this, so until devotion gets a severe nerf (When will it happen, Respawn!?) I will start to try this more and more.
Something I cannot stress enough with slide hopping for controllers, regardless of system is to change the TOGGLE crouch to HOLD TO CROUCH, changing that is literally a godsend to make slide hopping so much easier, because instead of pressing 2 buttons over and over, which makes it much much easier to mess up the timing, now its only 1 button being pressed and one being held
For PC players a way I found that helped me tremedously was make sure to use auto-sprint and set your left shift key to crouch, not crouch toggle, just crouch. Happy skiing!
This is the third time I watched this but obviously I have no muscle, much less memory! You did the best job I have seen to explain how to do it and make it easy, well done. I will practice more and more! I use a Cinch controller with A & B buttons underneath like the Scuff and Elite paddles so it should work...
You can also do this: 1- Wallrun/Stim/Both 2- Single jump and while in the air, crouch 3- Slide 4- Before slide stops, jump 5- When you reach the peak of your jump, jump again 6- While still in the air, crouch 7- Repeat
I changed crouch to L1 and tactical to circle, also I put crouch as holding, very easy in that way and very comfortable. Took me couple match to get into the new settings
If you use the default controller lay out I've found that gliding your finger from X/A to O/B helps, just make sure your in a slide position before you hit the ground.
Same here. I tried changing to bumper jumper with the original Titanfall and even remapped my Elite controller for Titanfall 2 but 14ish years of COD(and other shooters with "A" or "X" for jump) is too hard to forget for me.
i changed my tactical to right bumper, i changed my jump to left bumper, i changed my ordinace to A, and melee to B, so crouching is on my right joystick. this make slide hopping a breeze with a little practice
Toni I have watched this video many times and spent countless hours practicing but all I seem to get is a couple of bounces and then either I stop or double jump then stop. My gun is not staying in the laid-over position it just keeps popping back up - I believe this is timing but just can't seem to get it! Just don't seem to get it and that surprises me as I usually get things like this. I welcome any comments from you or your followers. Thanks
Away this weekend but will try on Monday. I am using Bumper Jumper which I believe should give similar performance, but I will give it a go. Thanks for your support and interest.
Well it worked so much better and even had one of my best games but I did stick with "Bumper Jumper". Spent a few games in a Private Match to test it out and practice. I am sure now it will only get better thanks for the help and perhaps I will meet you in the frontier some time...
Tony, you should be getting more love! I believe my problem is "heavy hands" my best friend is a scratch golfer and I asked him why he is so precise; answer "...you have to have soft hands" it is all about feel. I think my problem is that I am too heavy handed and that is hard to change - couldn't seem to do it in hockey or golf! I keep trying but feel I am hopeless...
With default controller setup, hit X and slide finger over O. That is the motion I have been using but speed seems tough to build. rub finger from X to O to press both in succession.
Great tutorial dude! I'm currently at the slide transition from wall to wall. It's great. But I'm way off being able to bunny hop throughout the map. I'll get there though. That's what I love about Titanfall though. I'm constantly improving :D
I recommend putting crouch so you have to hold it to crouch or slide. Also maybe make your own controls so LB / L1 is jump and crouch is RB / R1. I made swap weapons to B/Circle and ordnance to Y/Triangle. Hope this helps someone!
you don't really HAVE to be ablate move right to left while bunny hoping, just set a point, get there, wall run a bit and then choose a different direction
I play with the standard controller and i dont use jumper, i use default and quickly slide my thumb from the x to triangle button. It is actually easier than using bumper jumper. Try it, it doesn't even hinder m y aim
The hardest thing for me is timing between pressing O for crouch and X for jump and getting that right I've tried B-hopping and I get like 3-4 in before I begin to lose momentum
You can't airstrafe and slide hop without being able to claw effectively. If you don't know what clawing is, which I'm assuming you don't, you will not be able to Airstrafe and slide hop at the same time. In order to slide hop, you need to pull off your finger off the right stick, assuming you play on a default button layout, and swipe your finger over your A/X Button to your B/O Button after you slid to get the initial speed boost. But you have to do it quick. You know that you did it right, if your gun doesn't switch position from the crouched to the standing position.
I'm on ps4 and found myself struggling not really with the b hop itself, than with the controller schemes. So what I would suggest you do is to switch to the evolved scheme and go play the campaign for a bit until you're comfortable with it and you don't mash cruch to melee etc. that's what helped me out the most
justtroy95 switch your control scheme to bumper then map slide to right bumper. You will be able to slide hop by alternating left and right bumpers. The only drawback is that you will have to throw bases with a face button.
Slide hopping is so hard on console because without the controls "hold B/O" is really annoying because you literally have to slide your thumb from jump to crouch which is stupid because I sometimes run into the crouch button without pressing it
Nice vid bro...took me a little bit before I got this down. But once you do...you move around the map a lot faster. I seriously need to make more TF2 vids for my channel lol
as a cs veteran (pc masterrace) this took me like 2 tries... Never gonna go back maining cs from now on, fuck bhopping if you have wallruns and slidehops (and grappling hooks, but stim=yEs)
Is an elite controller more comfortable and better in general I slide hop with evolved and I have a normal controller and it feels sluggish to actually land slide hops
As a PS4 user, the controller is quite different and I'm not completely sure how to transfer what you told me over to the game. I'd be delighted if you made a video of you slidehopping, but showing your controller and hand movements etc. It would help alot, and other would say the same too.
you could get the FPS DOMINATOR MOD PACK that would give you paddles on the back of your controller. It's around $40, I've had mine for awhile and it's been working for me.
COPYRIGHT STRIKE if you are having trouble, switch to bumper jumper and map crouch to right bumper. Using that control scheme, you slide hop by alternating left and right bumpers.
Tony, I have watched this vid several time and stopped it to go onto my game and try what you explained. I practice for 10 mins before each session and on both PS4 and XB. I just don't get it and am totally frustrated. If I take my thumb off the left stick I stop! I wonder what the sequence of buttons you punch or do you hold one of them - tried it all. I use a Cinch controller with the buttons underneath like the Elite and Scuff - better for folks with smaller hands like mine. Can you help? Also would you post your Network and what console it is on? Great job I'm just slow!
99bogatyrs99 .DARK BAWGS I can slide hope but I learned how to go faster by using grapple search iniquitys video on how to grapple and do what he does exactly go on private match and practice that's how I learned I didn't stop until I did what iniquitys did in that video took me like 20 minutes just grapple and slide hope and you can get across the map
T.M. i need your help after watching you video i deccided to use bumper jumper and it helped me a lot but i found my self having bad time with some of the abilitis so if you got any way to help please tell me
Hey Tony do this same video but film your controller/hands and then put that video in the corner as on overlay, similar to what FrothyOmen did with his Bunny-hop video. I think that helps people understand the technique even more.
Would you recommend any pilot load out like stim, grapple or anything? Cause I'm interested in learning this but I'm addicted to my grapple hook and have gotten so comfortable that i don't want to change my utility to learn how to do this if its not necessary.
I've used slides between wall runs for a long time, but have trouble with the 'strafing' part. are you saying that pushing forward at all in the air will cause you to slow down? This has never been made very clear
Tip:Make sure to change crouch to "hold to crouch", it really helps a lot when Slide hopping
Bubbly Gaming holy fuck thank you!!!
is this "hold to crouch" only for pc or consoles ?

Finally, THANK YOU!
I wonder if slide hopping was an intended way of moving, or if respawn knew it would be possible.
Coltin Yancey it was possible in TF1 and I'm pretty sure respawn put it in the game

FrothyOmen has a PS4 tutorial if you're interested.
How i do it:
1. I run then jump (make sure you are crouching midair)
2. Press X and O at the same time when landing
you don't really HAVE to be ablate move right to left while bunny hoping, just set a point, get there, wall run a bit and then choose a different direction
lmao it’s pretty fun when you get it down. my gun doesn’t stay in place but it works perfectly.
Slide hopping is straightforward enough on MKB at least for me.
Now, air strafing, I can't get shit to work for the life of me
I would also always start the slide hope of a wall run
Great guide really helped me a lot thanks my only wish now is there to be an evolved pilot layout.
He said tf2 and I had to look at the title of the video thinking I accidentally hit a recommended Team Fortress 2 video
My layout is default so i can't move the stick and press A and B at the same time, and when i slide hop my gun still moves in and out of its position
Good tips but can you do a vid for those without pro controllers?
"Something something use bumper jumper blah blah blah..."

Slide hopping is so hard on console because without the controls "hold B/O" is really annoying because you literally have to slide your thumb from jump to crouch which is stupid because I sometimes run into the crouch button without pressing it

My friend is a hardcore bunny hopper
T.M. i need your help after watching you video i deccided to use bumper jumper and it helped me a lot but i found my self having bad time with some of the abilitis so if you got any way to help please tell me
Hey Tony do this same video but film your controller/hands and then put that video in the corner as on overlay, similar to what FrothyOmen did with his Bunny-hop video. I think that helps people understand the technique even more.
Admin he's doing it sideways
dude this helped me alot. Very tough to not hold forward with left stick. This learning curve maaan!
I was just wondering, what sens u play on?
my favorite games right now are tf2 (team fortress 2) and tf2 (titanfall 2)
I can slide hop but I can't turn. Why?
Would you recommend any pilot load out like stim, grapple or anything? Cause I'm interested in learning this but I'm addicted to my grapple hook and have gotten so comfortable that i don't want to change my utility to learn how to do this if its not necessary.
+Carter Hoskins there is really no need. The slide hop is its own thing. You can choose to combo it with whatever tactical you please.
I've used slides between wall runs for a long time, but have trouble with the 'strafing' part. are you saying that pushing forward at all in the air will cause you to slow down? This has never been made very clear
Yup. Its really as simple as that.
Arlithian watch the video i uploaded today. You dont need forward AT ALL while bhopping and air strafing
i needed this us its hard to slide hop on console
