Ok finished the video and was gonna say. It's very apparent you had fun with the edit. Be it nice matchcuts, the memes or little clip inserts. Outstanding work guys.
"So binding scroll to jump or using a custom config or macro to set +forward is off the table (and banned), and it's better this way." Mokey - I'm gonna pretend I didn't see that
I consider this the best video for TF2 movement guides; You're not only telling us WHAT to do, you're also telling us what NOT to do and what might cause problems. I struggled a lot trying to understand why copying the movement in other guides didn't work in my practice. This video answered a lot of my questions. Thank you!
this is single handedly the most helpful, concise, intuitive, comprehensive and easy to listen to guides for anything ive ever seen, let alone, covering something this complex
No matter how old this game is, or how long I already play it. Im still fascinated by how crazy and versatile the movement and combat is. Sometimes I just sit there watching like.. How you come up with stuff like that!? and how fuqqn Genius are players to master it, and break it down like that.. Truly a piece of Art just like this guide bro. Thanks
To anyone who has experience with the source engine, the Lurch mentioned in this video is something you can just feel. It's helpful to know how to prevent this but I learned most of it by feel. The only parts I needed to look up where airstrafing Via lurch
Damn, I’d learned airstrafing and basic wallkicks, but never learned about lurches, which were the main thing holding back my speed. Time to practice while the servers are down :P
Just in case you haven’t heard, a new mod called northstar client got released on pc that adds custom servers to the game, so I would highly encourage you to download that if you haven’t already.
im new to titanfall 2 and dont plan on speedrunning but this video was still so usefull due to explaing alot of mechanics that are just hard to grasp such as slideboosting having a cooldown and the exact time for wallslides. It was also just extremely entertaining!
I was introduced to your speedrun on GDQ last night and watched the whole thing at 4am. Beautifully done and inspired me to try Titanfall 2 because of the movement reminding me of Quake DeFrag and racing days. Another thing I noticed early on in this excellent tutorial, are you using Phendrana Drifts from Metroid Prime as music? I absolutely love it.
I'm gonna have to watch this over and over again, side by side on my other monitor and practice each piece of tech in a private lobby and figure this out. I had no idea titanfall's movement was so deep.
as a beginning pilot in multiplayer who constantly gets stomped because of lack of movement, this video is amazing! this is what i have been looking for
The Disembark jump is super easy to do in both multiplayer and single player if you hold down jump. Very useful for getting to the drop ship or on rooftops easily.
I bought Titanfall 2 yestersay, and I wanted to learn some movement but oh Boy this was not what I was specting jesus this so complex xD awesome guide video, keep up the great work
Outside the very detailed explanation for movement, I LOVE the Metroid Prime music in the background! Great speedgame, too! Thank you for explaining all this tech, I can't wait to gradually add it to my movement
Hey, super helpful video! I got interested in trying Titanfall 2 and practicing the movement after seeing the GDQ run this year, where you and Blaidan were great, thank you.
One thing I have to say is that toggle crouch is definitely viable and the timing is not hard to learn at all, plus its a good way to avoid carpal tunnel
Have many other important things to do, but here I am, trying to finally learn how to *speed* in TF|2. Couldn't get Northstar to work but I will get this movement down! Update: I really tried to follow with the directional inputs, but my hands are moving much faster, too fast for my brain that's trying to follow the guide and directional movements step-by-step. Felt like giving up, but decided to just empty my brain and do what felt intuitive. I managed to get some basic lurch slide hopping down after a slingshot, and I can only describe the feeling as my fingers playing triplets on a keyboard, or like if I was flipping a page in a book back and forth, or like if I was shaking my head side to side with my fingers, huh... my biggest enemy right now is accidentally double jumping, lol. Awesome video!
A man after my own heart, not only making an excellent tutorial for my favourite fps, but using part of the soundtrack from my favourite game while you're at it!
i've never been a serious sweat in any source game where i was going out of my way to learn how the movement engines work but i've been playing them for so long that i've already picked up on about 80% of these techniques intuitively through trial and error. i've always felt like i was slightly faster than the rest of my team in titanfall but now i know why.
I hate using evolved. I'll just stick to my personalized "Cowboy Ninja Gangster" bindings. Jump is left trigger, crouch is right trigger, shoot with the bumpers. Grenade is the right stick. Tactical is the left stick. B is melee. (I only use these bindings because they make my controller last longer i:e no stress from jumping with the left bumper, no stress from crouching with the right stick which preserves my deadzone.) If at all possible I would appreciate some thoughts from actual speedrunners about these bindings.
only thing with that is using a custom control scheme makes it so that whenever a dialogue option pops up or goes away the game just kinda releases any buttons you had held down so it does stuff like uncrouching you or throwing away a frag you had pulled if youre just playing mp youre probably fine tho
At first this video startled me bc I didn’t know if this was a mix of both console and pc binds and as a returning player this really helped me thank you and keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for this. I have now returned to the TF2, and I remember that despite being not terrible at movement, I wasnt too good either, so I hope this will help me survive longer in the multiplayer :D
I've start titanfall campain like 2 hours ago and i'm already looking into info about mouvement. It looks so good to be able to move that smoothly, I really want to be able to
God damn what a good video. I know feel like a true titan fall two veteran. You my friend, are peak Titanfall two fanbase member, who made the most (oddly) wholesome and comprehendible video about my favorite movement based fps of all time, deserve the title “peek Titanfall two fanbase”. Fuckin loved the video man
Titanfall 2 was one of the first games i ever was dedicated to getting quick in. Not even for speedrunning. but just for multiplayer. actually learned some of the basics for bhopping and slide hopping from a controller player, never realizing i was actually lurching. i probably should have felt it but hey, happens lol. Great video, and although ill probably not be using it to speedrun, ill definetly be lurchless bhopping air strafing around northstar. really great video
What's cool to me is that in MP the movement is a lot more cover based and control of your movement rather than speed, going fast and high just makes you more exposed and less likely to land shots unless the enemy is directly in front of you. That's what makes Titanfall 2's MP so good, there are pros and cons to every style and the best pilots understand what situations call for what playstyle. In pc MP you won't find high stat players always zooming around because winning is more about being on top of the hunter/prey gameplay Titanfall 2 has, and taking advantage of your opponents aggression. Many times me and other players have "carried" a team simply by staying around one area and letting the enemy funnel themselves into being at a disadvantage as an attacker.
You guys should do some investigation into motion sensor/gyro aiming as it allows for 1. Mouse aim on controller 2. Operation of face buttons (cross, circle, square, triangle). Note: this does not function on Xbox as Xbox doesn’t have a gyroscope or accelerometer(s) in their controllers. You’ll have to use steam’s controller support or joyshock mapper (JSM). Or in other words the evolved layout isn’t required and could allow for more dynamic and optimal layouts
This is a masterpiece, thank you so much for sharing all these info. Just recently got into Titanfall and is by far my fav FPS i have every played, it has everything. Pure FUN.
it's my third day of watching this video and I've only just been able to get down air strafing to a semi consistent level and am having an absolute blast can't wait to master all the different ways I can move in this awesome game.
bryonato if you see this would like to say I love the video as I found it very helpful as I am just getting back in to running this game. Also, I have a question for you can you msg me your pc specs and tell me what mouse and keyboard you use. Thanks Again

my low/high mouse speeds are almost identical to your recommended sensitivities, I thought that was funny/cute. You recommend 2.5 sens 800dpi > 1000dpi, or 20.78cm/360 on the slow side to 16.625cm/360 on the fast side. My sensitivity with accel is 22cm/360 on the slow end, jumping to 17cm/360 on the fast end. I tweaked my graph particularly for Quake 3 CPMA play, and of course my own style. Thanks for putting together this video, I've been interested in learning Titanfall 2 movement but too lazy because it looks complicated; it's easier to just keep playing Quake than learn something new, so this is really helpful for someone like me.

I find using the grappling hook exposes my position a lot and the only need for speed I have is in order to get out of a line of sight or to get closer to the fighting after a respawn, after that I'm happy to practise my positioning and aiming just like I would in a normal fps, so although I could learn to grapple low to the ground, this also depends a lot on the environment in the map and having to not just aim thr grappling hook at but also for the ledges to be available or not obstructed etc, so I find it much easier to use Stim on my loadout, simply sprint at the click of a button and then camp out in a building or tail/assist an ally titan or pilot sentry for protection. Also if I'm getting shot at, I don't have to look for a surface to grapple onto, I can instantly sprint about and make it at least harder for the enemy to hit me.
