Years ago, I used duct tape to provide a protective barrier between the nipple heads and my inner tube on a dirt bike. After a few tire changes I decided to replace the tape because it was starting to come loose. When I removed the tape the rim was badly corroded. What happened was water got trapped between the duct tape and the rim and began to corrode the rim. Had I used a rubber rim strip the water would have dripped away from the rim and not been trapped to corrode. Just FYI.
That looks great! The only thing I would have done differently would have been tubeless tires. Hopefully Ducati releases some OE spoke wheels next year.
@@ClutchFirst I’m new to this whole spoke wheel.. tubes/tubeless setups.. but SM Pro said I can bring wheels back anytime and then can make them tubeless (at a cost) with a 2-yr guarantee
@@reiayanami6946 Yeah I been watching.. however when it comes to tyres/wheels that keep u on the tarmac I tend to leave it to experts just for the safety side
Wheels look great. Good luck with running tubes. Even without a puncture, tubes will wear and eventually shit the bed, so have a set ready for your next tire change.
@@hypermotardking I’m not surprised to be honest. Standard wheels would be just cast. The SM wheels are pretty solid stuff. Plus the hubs look quite beefy. With that extra weight though it’ll balance out when we next ride together 🤣
Did you measure the stock 698 wheels? I have weights for the different scrambler wheels and hubs I’m putting together a chart, if you could share that would be helpful
@@maxbreemer First I didn’t know I needed to cover the spoke ends in the rim.. the tyre guy said a rubber rim band isn’t always good.. and just to get the tyre on any tape will do. This is all learning and I plan to revisit this to go tubeless
Spoked wheels look sick! I dig it! 🤙

@@rickflores2420 Good tip and I’ll keep an eye out for it. The plan will be to go tubeless once I work out what to do with the front wheel
Great job on spoked. Love them.

Why don't the wheels have seals to protect the ball bearings?

They look pretty good mate. Much better than stock. You can buy and fit the tape for tubeless tyres yourself.
Shame about the spindle hassle though.
They are quite a lot heavier compared to the stock wheel

it looks way better. Can't get it when Ducati decide to give it cast wheels. All stock supermoto should have spokewheels.

Why didn't you use a proper rim band? The glue of the Gorilla tape might pulverize over time and may even eat into the aluminium.
