  • The legend of Isildur will likely go down in history as the greatest rise and fall in poker. He came out of nowhere. A mysterious kid from Sweden was suddenly playing all the greatest players for the highest stakes, sometimes simultaneously. Before he was known as Viktor Blom, he was Isildur1, an instant fan favorite. This is his story.

one part doug failed to mention about that "day" is that hastings won 4.2 million from blom in the span of about 4 hours, not all day. I think this makes the story even more epic....losing a milli every hour for 4 hours in a row to 1 player...rail heaven for sure. Pretty sick tenacity from blom to still be playing today.

Those were the days where I lost a lot of sleep. I had made full screen (1600x1280) camtasia studio recording of all of Isildur's sessions, capturing all 6 tables always on one screen. Captured the epic Jungleman session and all of Isidur1's showdowns as well.. I had lost a lot sleep recording all these sessions because you had to be ready every moment to start arranging the new tables onto the screen as they frequently closed tables and opened new ones. I still go back and watch them sometimes, preferring that over hand histories because you have a better sense of the timing they took to make decisions.

This was one of Full Tilt rules at the time they played that session: "The use of shared hand histories provides detailed information on opponents a player has little or no personal experience playing against, and is deemed to be an unfair advantage. Violating this policy is subject to the maximum penalties for prohibited software use".
Did they punish Brian Hastings for that? Did Isildur receive some of his losses against Hastings back?

Doug, in that wrap vs 2pr hand...you have to know that Hastings can be crushed here. Yes he has a big draw, but his hand is absolutely crushed by a hand like 5678, 6789, etc. I'm not a "nutfear" guy, but Hastings has a hand that plays great against serious made hands and horribly against worse draws. I don't feel that you put much thought into this part of it. It's like Dwan's AK vs Isildur's AA hand, except a better draw in the plo hand is a lot more likely than AA is in the holdem hand.

I guess its not just me, and people do wanna see those kind of Limits. I have seen 100/200 Action on Pokerstars. But it seems like the "real" nosebleed Tables are just gone. Idk if Pokerstars ever offered these Tables. But maybe you have some inside on why there are no longer those Limits or why Pokerstars (or any other site) dont offer them. It seems since Black Friday this Action closed completly. I really would aprecciate an Answer, thx a lot for your time! Keep up with the great Work! Greetings from Austria

My downfall was playing Omaha as well lol. I was a winning player playing NLH. There's so much more money on Omaha . I Played Omaha a couple times a week for about 6 months, it messed my money up

I wonder how much 2009 money is worth in today´s money ;) Can´t believe it's been 12 years!! Back then I was playing NL100 and 11-22$ SNGs/MTTs part time while studying. It was a great time to be alive and playing poker.

He didn't lose 4 million to Hastings. He lost it to a 4 man team with absolutely no repercussions.

I wonder how much of the loss was down to Isildur1 tilting? That EV graph clearly shows how bad he was running and iirc he pretty much told Hastings to take his last couple of hundred thousand, saying that he (Isildur1) didn't want it.

Doug, frankly idk how you guys can cope with the stress of losing that kind of money I personally would be sick to my stomach and probably become suicidal. 4.2M USD in one day? I can't even think of the words to describe what I am seeing here. Aside from totally fucking mind boggling.

I know Viktor. Were from the same village, later on moved to the same town and played a lot of poker tourneys togheter with our common friends before he was famous as Isildur. He cheated a lot and stole money from younger kids.
He is a very strange guy, some kind of autistic, who learned everything he knows about poker from swedish "celebritys vs pros"-shows. He has no other knowledge, has just read one book (a "poker for dummies" kind of-book"). He´s just a guy who loves to gamble and has no respect for money, wich I guess everybody knows cause thats what made him famous.
But now he is back in his hometown, or home village, its just 5k people who lives here. He moved togheter with his father when he got broke. But now he is back in business, and won like 2 million dollars 2 years ago.
