About the talking: I did start watching you because of poker knowledge which you have a ton of. But I watch less and less poker content now, still I always watch your videos BECAUSE of the way you talk. You have a very calm way of explaining things and talking in general, so if it were up to me, the more detail the better!
That’s the first video of yours that I’ve seen and that is the perfect amount of detail, analysis on the betting ranges and then also analysis on what bluffs the villain can have (as well as how likely they are to bet those bluffs) is really valuable to me. Wow, trapping a wild player with quads is the ultimate power move! It’s always thrilling to see a perfectly executed slow play like this. The patience and timing were spot on, and it’s what makes poker so exciting to watch. This hand will definitely go down as a legendary moment-awesome capture!

Another way you can do it, is by letting us watch the unedited clip then break it down after, although you might need to preface or give context. Aside from that, you explain the repping range of Mariano really well (river), along with the perspective of airball. This is one of your better videos, worth a like.

I do believe Mariano could've played the hand better by absolutely raising Airball on the flop! he Definity could've made this pot waaaaaaay bigger just bc of the way the hand started from the pre flop action. Its no way Nick would've believed Marino called a four-bet with 44's
Quick poker fact…it’s called the river on the end because they used to throw cheaters off the river boats where they could gamble out west. Cheaters would try to deal themselves an extra card on the end because they were playing five card stud and an extra card would give them a big advantage over time. So they would toss the cheaters into the river when caught at the end of dealing.:).
I enjoyed the analysis, and I'm so glad you didn't start with the usual Bro Talk of "What's up guys .." I'm also a little surprised that Nick kept betting even though Mariano bet on every street, then overbet the river. Either M's running a really good bluff .. or he actually has it. And a pair of Jacks is pretty far down the list of best possible hands for that board. Two pair, trips, a flush and a full house are all better possible hands.

This was my first video of yours I watched and it was a very informative and engaging analysis with a good level of detail for me. I'd love seeing hand breakdowns with more analysis in the vein of the 11:20 stuff, like weighting the combos in ranges or talking about how it relates to bet-sizing and GTO play, so I'll be subbing to see more!
I love your talks in this video, specially when you talk about the factors of bluffing frequency and bluffing range combination, would love get your insight on how other probable factors we can consider in certain positions.

If people just want to watch the hands, watch the streams. You broke down this hand very well. I would love to see you do some hands where you don't know the whole cards. This would be an interesting one for that type of breakdown.
Nik doesn't value bet big sizes thin enough to balance how much he bluffs IMO. If he overbet river here, getting away would be easier, but he also represents more air and might actually get called lighter, IMO.
I only watch to hear your analysis, so as much of that as possible please :) Many years ago, when I played NLHE for a living, you were my favourite player to watch. I think you were the most theoretically sound player at that time, and might very well still be. The concept of G-bucks (I think you called it?) was a huge eye-opener for me. Seeing your analysis again makes me consider getting back into the game.
Hey Phil ~ I loved your breakdown here. Everything you said made sense. I was unsurprised to see Nik call. He's definitely one of the more "loose cannon" players.
Because it's Airball, and Mariano knows it's Airball, Airball does have to call, I think. Long-term, Airball can't allow his overpair hands to turn into leveling battles on the river where he then folds. He'd be better off going to a check-call strategy in spots like this, than going to a bet-fold strategy. Or just continue taking his lumps when he runs into a monster. If he gets into the habit of folding in spots like this, the frequency of people floating and bluffing will go up and put him in more tough spots. In deciding whether to keep someone honest, sometimes you have to assign higher probabilities to certain people floating with very non-GTO combos. Mariano is one of those people, so then it becomes a question of whether you do or don't see any tell that something odd is going on in a particular hand. Tell-wise, probably there was something odd that Airball picked up. He just got the direction of the tell wrong, but no matter who you are, it is impossible to flop quads and be 100% unaffected by it.
I’m surprised Nik bet on the end, unless he was hoping the guy with quads would think he had spades, not knowing he had 4444. Or he didn’t want to call an even bigger bet on the river.
I was in the big blind with 10 4 off suit. I'm waiting for someone to raise so I can throw it away. Everyone limps in, literally everyone, no raises, so I check. The flop comes 4 4 4. OK so I have quads and obviously I check. A guy at the other end of the table has 6 6 and decides to bet out before someone else can make a bigger full house. It folds around to me, I "think about it" for a few seconds and call. The turn brings a 5. Obviously he is loving that because it still leaves him with the biggest full house. Anyone with a bigger pocket pair than his would have raised preflop so, he feels safe putting out a bigger bet. I "think about it" for a few seconds and decide to Hollywood it a bit and say "I just don't think you have the full house!" That gets him going "Oh yeah I do! I've got a great full house!" ....... and I call. The river brings a 3. How about that, another card that is safe for him, as safe as safe can be, so, he puts out a bigger bet. I only have so many chips left over his bet so I go all in. NOW, he pauses and looks confused. He tanks for a few seconds and calls and throws over his 6 6 as fast as he can. I turn over my quads. He goes ballistic and spends the next 10 minutes telling everyone at the table how badly I had played my quads. When he got up and went to the bathroom we all broke up laughing.
Niks turn bet is fine, clears equity and better to be H/U for river especially OOP, but his river bet makes zero sense on Ts. On the Ten of diamonds etc would make much more sense for obvious reasons but still be bad! What the hell does he think Mariano can ever call him with on Ten of spades specifically, that he also called turn with 3rd player still to act behind therefore making Mariano also OOP to 3rd player on river too, hence Mariano range is super strong
Ranges, combos, possibilities mean absolutely nothing when it comes to two key factors in the game of poker; luck and the possibility of getting bluff at ANY time.
This was great analysis but seems like a pretty easy snap fold on the river unless Mariano is a maniac. Even the value bet on the river by airball is thin to begin with.

I think in Airballs position its easy to put mariano on A 4 of spades as to why he came along and why he stayed

Mariano played perfectly on the flop & turn by NOT raising, his job description here is to keep Nik firing; which he accomplished.

When listing Mariano's value hands on the river, did we completely ignore all the A4s and K4s hands??
