I'm very happy about the scoop on 3 boards, if I knew I was running it 3 times it makes queens a much easier call because you know you are most likely flipping an against opponents range which so much AK that also blocks the hands you are dead against (and likely to win one flip)
This is my 2nd Phil Galfond video. Just subscribed to his channel. He is really smart and so humble. I always liked his game but I'm all in on this guy now.
3 things of importance here: Bryn Kenny casually scrolling on his phone giving no interest whatsoever in the hand Petrangelo confirming he's, in fact, not a scientist And Lyne looking fine
I know that QQ probably can go either way here, where it calls a little more often as we saw with Dwan. What would Dwan do if instead of QQ, he has Suited AK ? Would that also mix up calling and folding, where more often its a fold and a call only sometimes ? (The other way round to QQ), since QQ can be ahead of JJ and has more equity vs AK, whereas Suited AK is behind every hand statiscally that JRB shoves barring AK itself
Ye that argument is like hes getting paid off easier ,but KK vs AA is always gonna be relatively easy pay off unless ur exreme nit and there are not that many being brought to those games anyway.
QQ can definitely get away when they are 600+ bbs deep and the stacks go in pre. KK vs Dwan is tough but best case scenario Tom has AKs, almost certainly not JJ or QQ. Most likely Tom has KK or AA if he is jamming 600bbs in pre. hes crazy, but hes also smart and if he gets out of line its usually because hes sniffed something out. But yea its the classic cooler AA vs KK, sometimes the moneys just gotta get in.
@@smackinmatt I think he should have folded the queens originally like Phil said. I don't think his implied odds were good enough to set mine there, but it was close. KK was tough, but I really think that could have been folded, although I'm not going to fault him for the call. I folded KK once in my life playing no limit holdem, and I happened to be right. The guy showed me the AA. It was pretty similar to this situation from what I can remember.
9:52 Hi Phil. I think that the 3bet by JRB was small and I don't think he 3bets that small OOP with aces. Your thoughts? Does JRB raise small and make the comment that he makes "let's sweeten the pot a little bit." with aces? Or kings even? No I don't think so. I think his raise preflop is a give away to Tom that QQ is the best hand preflop like almost always.
I remember watching this hand when the HSP episode came out. JRB's sizing was too small, I don't really understand what he was trying to accomplish (unless he anticipated another player to spaz jam as Lynne did). Obviously, the more standard play here is to squeeze with a much larger sizing so you don't have to play AKcc OOP against several opponents (a couple of whom have less defined ranges than the average player = less visibility on what a "safe board" would be). Phil, would love to hear your opinion on this as well as JRB's "squeeze" is the most interesting part of that hand.
I think a shove is fine here too, but the speed at which he did it I suspect is why Dwan may have made the call. 90%+ of players are gonna at least briefly tank with AA or KK.
I made a 600 BB call with pocket Queens a couple days ago and they guy had JJ. Situation was a little different though. There was a 10$ straddle and Villain A, an action player, Opened to $50, he was 2k effective, and I just flat called so I guess the strength of my hand was disguised. Villain B goes all in for around $380. It gets back to Villain A and he seems to think about just calling (what I wanted) and then decided to shove for $2000. I didn't like this but felt like it could have been a squeeze play to isolate. I was still obviously very concerned he may have AA or KK. so I begrudgingly made the call after a little deliberation. Villain A shows JJ, Villain B shows KK, putting me a pretty good spot to lose $400 but win a $1600 side pot. I flopped three of a kind and rivered a boat.
Missed the straddle in hand 1 I believe? You mention we are 600bb deep but unless the graphic is wrong it says 800 to call for Daniel making 300k about 375bbs. Still quite deep and I don't think it changes the analysis much, that is probably still over the threshold where Dwan could jam KK for value.
Had a similar scenario like this occur for me in a tournament. I had the pocket queens. Had both the AA and KK covered. Made the call. Flop quads. A hit the turn, 9 on the River. Crazy hand.
JRB shoved super fast. If he had a really strong hand like aces or kings he would have taken more time to try to bring Dwan in, and i think Dwan def noticed that.
couple of things i don't think were mentioned : 1. on the first hand, it starts out with Negreanu '3-betting' to $3,500...did we miss who opened first ? if QQ wasn't the first raise, it makes a huge difference vs it being the first raise on the button, but regardless, it's something worth clarifying 2. on the second hand, after it goes raise to 4k and the rest call, JRB only squeezes to 11k...that's definitely 'non-standard' and simply acts as a 'pot sweetener' as he even said out loud when he did it...that's never getting anybody to fold and almost surely played into the dynamics of Lynne shoving with Q10 and possibly Tom calling JRB's allin as well...just an important detail that wasn't talked about that i think probably played a part in the decision making processes for this hand
Tom is a real gentleman on the table and always he is very calm and nice and never angry or violent with other players and of course he is genius in poker in both side mentally and theory i really love Tom the great Tom Dwan
