3:51 Not much oil under that rocker cover... Is that normal? Wondering if I have a clogged drain passage or something. The valve side has a fair puddle of oil in mine. New to all this - your videos are invaluable! Cheers

      Hey hey.
The oil was so new at that point that she was very clear. Not dark at all. So yeah there was plenty under there it shouldn't be spilling out just nicely lubed ! (Least that's what I was told)

I have to say that a good quality distriutor with points and a high output coil worked very well on the A series. I've done this on several Minis over the years and never had any issues. There are so many after market parts for these engines that you have a great choice of options. If you want to get really nerdy about it, get hold of a copy of David Vizard's book on tuning the A series. He covers just about everything you need to know. Highly reccomended.

I might go back to points at this rate mate I won't lie !

Timing doesn't feel quite right at the moment. Choke disengaged and she wants to stall if I let her! So I might move the dizzy a little see if that helps

@@AndysMGAdventures Did you go back to Points Andy ? I took my electric out and fitted points into a pertronix distributor, much much better and can be easily static timed. But now I feel the weights are not advancing right. Don’t know about you but I’m a believer in going back to standard. Lucas 25D4.

@@carlbickerstaff5229 see I was told electronic ignition was the way to go. I'm finding that she doesn't run as well in my opinion. Dave and I are gonna hopefully look at it at Christmas. I kept all the points !

I considered this change. I was advised to reconsider as many stories are told about how unreliable these conversion kits can be. My MIDGET specialist mechanic convinced me to fit a new distributor with high quality points as a better option.

Did you go back to standard points or keep the electronic one ?

Before I sold her I left her as electronic and then put points in the kit with her

@@AndysMGAdventures If you kept her do you think you would have gone back, or did it get better ? I’m thinking of making the change on my 72 Midget but then read your comments and got confused !

To be honest I would have kept it. She ran fine once warmed up properly in the end !

Where did you set the timing? I did not hear you say?... been told the timing is different for Electronic Ing as opposed to points?

Hi mate, watching I noticed that when at TDC your rotor arm was pointing at 8oclock and not 2oclock. Is this right? To me that says it’s 180 out. Obviously firing on cylinder one can then be achieved by swapping the HT leads. Or did you just simply put it back in according to how it came out. ? Cheers.

@@AndysMGAdventures I’m from Birmingham originally and been in the States for 20 years now and I’m Living in Rhode Island currently. I always wanted a midget as a kid and mentioned this to my wife and she bought me a mk3 1974. I’m an absolute novice but loving learning about maintaining these cars. Our Midget is part of the family now, LOL. You have helped me no end. Simple things like jacking up the car. Important and overlooked. Can’t tell you how nervous I was the first time. I’m following your progress, just adjusted my valves. Actually replaced my dizzy electronic ignition back to points and the car is running much better now. Stripped my carbs and rebuilt. Love it. Keep it up fella.
