Nice presentation. Yours is the first one I've come across that actually showed where to place the stands and at what mounting point, vs just telling you where they go.
Hi Andy, I’m new to all this, ime a newbie, so have looked at most of the RUclips stuff on classic MGs and I’m really enjoying your advice and enthusiasm , thanks, regards Tim.
Thank you for your videos, always informative and fun. However I do not understand this one. The moment the car is with front wheels on the ramps, and you jack it up at the rear, it would slide off the ramps, because the handbrake is only on the rear wheels, at least mine does...?
Excellent video. Only thing I would add is the importance of having a level, solid surface to jack from. Jacks love to sink or tip over on gravel driveways.
John Twist (LEGEND) recommends using a block of wood on the rear diff with a hole in it so the plug itself doesn’t bear any weight. I use this method with the trolley Jack and works well. Also, my plug is all knackered up so I want to spare it any more harm!
Nice one Andy, just the video I’ve been looking for. Had my Midget for over a year now but never jacked her up mainly because she’s run ok but also because I didn’t really know how to do it safely.......I do now! Ta very muchly old chap.
Great narration. I just bought a 78 that sat 9 years. Having fun with it. I will recommend your site to our club. How about and episode on sourcing parts.
Get there John! Many thanks mate. I know a lot frown on using blocks of wood to jack sometimes, but need must a lot of the time! Yeah I can do that. Listing all the places I use... I'll add it to my list. Next big job is rostyle wheel re furb
13:14 please SHOW US HOW?!? Once I jack the front up like this there’s no way I can get my jack stands in there without sliding them way far back, so they interfere with getting the oil drained, or doing anything else.
Nice demonstration in jacking the MG Midget. How effective are the rear shocks mounted at that angle. Thought they should be more up and down. I am restoring a Midget and one of the things I have replaced is a badly dented cross member.
A buddy altered a scissors jack to use a lug nut instead of the ring to raise and lower it, and then used a pneumatic impact driver to raise and lower it. It was SOOOO fast, it was wonderful. Just kind of tossed the car up in the air, and dropped it to the ground, one speed setting shy of causing damage. He was a little reckless, but it did work.
@@AndysMGAdventures $13 scissor jack adapter on Amazon though this buddy welded his on 20+ years ago. Its even perfectly safe if your impact driver doesn't have many RPMs, lol.
I once used ramps on a non mg on the front / front wheel drive. I forgot I set the hand brake and went to back down off them and they shot out like rockets lol
I'm finding you on this Hi Andy your cross the pond pal. I haven't broke your stones in a while about more videos and your new mini. Any idea when we might see your smiling face again? :)
So helpful!! Made me feel steady enough to go buy the equipment to jack up my 1974 midget. I was wondering if you would be so kind to do a video for uber newbies like me? I have tons of old books and manuals but I learn so much better from videos than the black and white drawings. I have no Dave to help me:). I would really love a video from a midget owner such as yourself who goes over the location of each of the engine parts. My fuel pump was so small I didn't recognize it. Perhaps advice on what to beware before disassembling from your experience. Mg rehabbers already know everything( so I understand if it's not what you think your watchers want to see) but I can't find a basic video on a MG midget. Even the famous John Tester doesn't open up a bonnet and just map it all out. It's all segmented and he doesn't do it on a midget only MGB 's and there are differences. I have some parts in my engine and under the car by the back left tire that I still can't identify. Once I identify the parts and where they are in my car I feel more sure about reading up on them or trying to piece MGB similarities to tackle them. I am in the process of changing the master slave and cylinder and only because I watched videos.... the books are just too abstract for my newbie brain. Just a wish, no pressure. Love the channel regardless.
Fab idea! Once I've done my clutch slave in the coming weeks I'll move onto that as the next video my friend! Nay worries, I too find these diagrams a wee bit confusing at times !
Best vid on RUclips, thanks.
Well that is massively kind of you Jason. Thanks mate

Hey there Tim. Welcome along to the newbie club. It's the best 🤣 let me know if you need any help, and it can be the blind leading the blind !
Thank you for your videos, always informative and fun.

The ramps are notched so the wheel sits snugly inside each little cut out . Hence no rolling back off them!
Excellent video. Only thing I would add is the importance of having a level, solid surface to jack from. Jacks love to sink or tip over on gravel driveways.
Cheers Maurice and yup absolutely!

John twist is my MG idol. So yeah whatever he says haha

It's still daunting to do I won't lie! But so lush once you can get underneath and do all your lubing enjoy!
Good advice Andy. Even a Midget will hurt like hell if it falls on your head. Better safe than dead.
Exactly, can't stress it enough ! It would be like one of those acme cartoons with a piano falling on you
Andy your great and your vids are so informative and cheeky too
Cheers Robert. That's super kind.
Great instructional video! thanks for making this
Pleasure thanks!

If you jack high enough you can get jack stands either side of the Sump on the chassis rails my friend

You should see my cross member ! Holy moly it's bad!
The Konis were on the car when I bought it. And do you know what. They're reallt rather good !

I MUST SEE THIS. hahahaha

Hey Andy, fabby advice as usual. Looking forward to the next video.
🏴
Plenty more since that video James my friend !! And thanks for the kind kind words
I need a low profile jack as my V6 ford prefect uses mgb running gear and is low at the front
Complete game changer Phil. It really saved me so much pain
I’ve been needing to see this one!
Not for the purists I'll admit, jacking with a bit of wood can be risky. But im glad it can help some people @
Such a lifting upload thanks 😀
Oh god. I can see a lot of these puns coming thick and fast!
I’m sure you’ll have some ups and downs with it 🤗
THANKS Andy good job

Crumbs! Anyone hurt?
Pump up the jam, pump it up....... very good advise.
For jacking points refer to the manual...
The manual is certainly much wiser than this little old noodle.

Haha! Even I don't know yet I'm afraid
@AndysMGAdventures , well, I hope alls well with you and the family. Thanks for replying. Gears mate! Wait, is that right? Beers? Oh right, cheers!
@mikes6961 lol. You extra points for all that response! I'll be back! X
