The problem is people feel like they have to pick a side or team, they all have good and bad models. Good and bad aspects from all brands. Just buy what makes you happy and you like 👍
No, not so much in my book, trax ass is just a garbage company. They flood the market with crap, (garbage electronics, brittle plastics, gimick over substance) They are as proprietory as they can be, they are sue happy. (They own the word MAXX? I think not.) There cars are good enough to move for a battery, but I've never seen one win anything but drag racing one time. Garbage company selling mediocre junk. That's why I won't even think about a trax ass.
This is very true. I would never stick to one brand, why limit yourself there is so many options out there. As you said rc is all about having fun, buy whatever puts a big smile on your face. As others have said every brand have great products and bad ones.
I am a fan of Traxxas, but I wholeheartedly agree with the fact that Traxxas servos are sh*t. The stock 2056 and 2075 that comes in most of their models is a ticking time bomb, and even their actually good servos are far too expensive for what you get. Their 600 oz-in brushless servo is $160 when you could get a Perfect Pass Monster Servo with $900 oz-in of torque for $40 cheaper
I say: Buy whatever brand makes YOU the happiest. I own several of each brand: Arrma, Traxxas, Redcat, Tamiya, & Kyosho to name a few, and I even own some ZD Racing RCs; ALL of them put miles of smiles on my face for different reasons and I love, break, and repair all my cars. They ALL make great cars, and they ALL make some junk vehicles. Go with whatever YOU can afford and makes YOU happy, but don't listen to the haters. All of that said.... When you're the big boy at the top, everyone tries to knock you down to be the new king.
My problem with Traxxas is the whole thing about the lawsuits against other brands like HPI and Arrma. They were just trying to bankrupt their competitors rather than just making better products and becoming the top brand in a fair way. They are just big bullies in the industry and I won't buy their products for that reason. Having said that I do still have a Slash that I bought before I knew what they were like but it's had so many mods that it's only about 30% Traxxas now anyway!
@@getmoney12358 Well what Traxxas did was to put patents on designs like inboard shocks that had been around for years before Traxxas did it but not patented by anyone. Traxxas then sued other companies for using this design even though they themselves had not invented it. They did this for a load of RC car features that had been around for years but nobody had thought to patent. They are just using their power as a big company to try to ruin the opposition financially. I will never forgive them for bankrupting HPI.
@@PeteWylieRC exactly right, they almost bankrupt arrma too , I almost got stuck with rcs I couldn't get parts for after just getting back into the hobby. I think they took HPI out over the waterproof receiver box. Lol . Thing that's messed up is they copied team associated rc10 , which besides the jxr2 was only race buggy . It was called bullet
I tend to agree with most everything said, but...... I have had zero luck with traxxas brushless systems, several cars that overheat within minutes. I've tried running 2s instead of 3s, didn't help. Fans didn't help. All of my traxxas cars have hobbywing electronics now.
Started in my late 40's in the hobby and was directed to a 2wd Slash and never regretted it. Pretty rugged and fairly customizable and upgradable easily. I have a TA RC10B4.2 and have put some Traxxas parts on it because I like them better than the TA parts. IDK I like being able to get parts easily and are available. Plus not knowing much from the get go it was very user friendly and I changed the electronics to a more universal as I went along
I'd say a big reason people dislike Traxxas is them suing other RC companies like HPI and arrma (particularly when it's over patents that shouldn't have been granted to traxxas in the first place). It became obvious that traxxas didn't want to compete but instead use their size to muscle the competition out of the room. If you've been in the hobby for a while you can see the results of their actions by the lack of brand diversity you see at your local hobby shop, and compare it to how it was around 10 years ago. And in some cases it's directly impacted people who own cars made by the companies who got sued. I mean, I'm not going to say that the reason I can't easily get parts for my HPI car is all traxxas fault (HPI had their own issues before then), but they sure didn't help.
33 years in the hobby. Wrote for a major publication, hosted multiple events, ran a hobby shop owned nearly every single brand out there. I've seen and watched the evolution of traxxas since the fiero and trx10 bullet. I've raced competitive with the blue Eagle ls2, the trx 1, and srt. I've raced a slash, I've beat the daylights out of nearly every single model. Availability of parts is a huge attraction, as is the 30 model memory with the tqi. There's good and bad in everything, in every hobby. Traxxas outweighs the bad with good by a huge margin. Huge.
It’s not really hard to get parts for anything made today with the internet. I live in Portland Oregon we have Tammie’s hobbies a huge hobby shop. I wouldn’t go there for parts. It’s all on the web with the best prices, free shipping delivered to your doorstep in 4-5 days. “Parts availability” doesn’t go that far when you can get anything on the web. Traxxas is for kids since they left racing in 94-95 when they couldn’t beat associated and losi. Traxxas are plastic hobby grade toys. Nothing bad about that. They’re just not a racing brand so racing guys will speak poorly of them. Traxxas has their place and that’s a great place, rtr easy entry and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Arrma products are always on backorder it seems lol. Always waiting months of stupid things. Like right now, the steering servo is on backorder for the 1/18 grom. Like come on ...
Traxxas hurt the hobby so bad with their lawsuits. Had to get rid of my hpi stuff. Their self righting system guarantees you will be replacing gears. What ever makes one happy. Traxxas just doesn't do it for me. Very cool channel you have created.
@@rcjunkie260 I agree on both points bro. The lawsuits hurt everyone especially us enthusiasts . And the self righting option is a great way to order new drivetrain parts
@@norcalrc I just read a article on redit. Traxxass sued HBO over the max in HBO Max. They also sued maclaren over the name of their 2s esc MMax. Traxxas is a bunch of Traxxas Texas business bullies are trying to destroy all competition so their is only traxxas. And don't forget they also sued Tamya, Hobbieco and others.
@@norcalrc I still don't understand why one can't walk over to the flipped rc and turn it over. Too far don't go that far, maybe don't drive so hard at a distance? This might hurt some feelings learn how to drive your rc and keep the wheels down!(sorry)I really enjoyed my hpi blitz flux one tough and fast good handling truck. Until parts dissapeared and the ones I could find 2 to 3 times the price.
I just got back into the RC world after being out of it for over 20 yrs. I started in my teens back in the 80s when you had to build them yourself. I had the Super Champ ( had a rear mono shock and would always rollover) , grasshopper, Blackfoot, Clod Buster ( I loved this 4wd & 4ws ). Fast forward to this yr, I bought a 4x4 Rustler VXL in Feb and a Maxx V2 in May. I can not believe the difference and how far they have came. My Rustler is fun and fast as hell but I usually brake something every time I take it out. The Maxx on the other hand, I literally beat the shit out of it, like jump into trees at 55mph, off the roof of the house, head ons with other RC cars and just cosmetic stuff. The only thing I did crack on the Maxx was a front bulk head when the tire bead came off the rim and I slammed into a box filled with concrete. Surprisingly it still ran, it was just making a rubbing grinding noise. I do use other 4s batteries then Traxxas and I do charge them with my Traxxas charger and it still runs great and even longer run time. My RC cars from back in the day would never be able to handle what the RC cars of today can.
As far as a product line, I think there are some good models, I have a UDR that I'm pretty happy with. But as a company, it's chock full of the same proprietary, litigious, corporate bullshit as Horizon Hobby (which is killing many legendary brands all on it's own) But honestly, social media has just killed most of the joy right out of this hobby, and I'm a 38 year veteran. Marketing, sales, promotion, is all done on RUclips, Facebook, or Instagram, and it 's all about the clicks, and everybody is a fucking expert. Traxxas fans are particularly toxic online, and I'm not sure why, could be because most of them have never built a kit, or don't have a clue how to fix their own crap
I mostly see toxic traxxas haters ironically and level of skill is irrelevant to me as we all had to learn it, both sound like elitism which I expect from hipsters/fanboys. I prefer traxxas due to their selection and creativity with design and features but I have never felt the need to bash other brands and find such things childish.
I own all traxxas I do all the work on all my cars I don’t hate on other brands I just prefer traxxas but I would love to get some other brands to try out
@@psp420bam Just to set the record straight, a lot of Traxxas's "creative" designs and features are actually highly derivative of other manufacturers' models. Cantilever suspension and telescoping driveshafts debuted on the Schumacher Top Cat, the 3-gear transmission used on all of Traxxas's 2WD models is literally the "Stealth" gearbox from the RC10, o-ring sealed radio boxes have been a staple in the boat scene, on-board starting for Nitro models actually first appeared on the OFNA-Hong Nor Ultra MBX line, and even SCTs in the very style of the Slash originally debuted with the Duratrax Nitro Demon, but didn't catch on at the time due to the price, complexity and lackluster reliability of Duratrax's Axis platform (which the Nitro Demon was based on)
I’ve been wanting a slash for the longest time, I finally got one. Yeah there’s the senton and other trucks but the slash was the first I saw. And I love it. I’m very happy I got it, and I see there’s a lot of aftermarket parts so that’s a big part of why I wanted it. I do agree about the batteries, I haven’t upgraded the battery yet because I know when I go brushless im gonna use a different connector. Also (at least with my car) the charger that was included was a 12v car plug which I still think is odd. Thankfully my friend gave me a stampede along with a aftermarket house plug charger
The car plug upset me when I bought my 2wd slash but luckily I had bought a prophet charger and extra battery because I knew I wanted to run it a lot and I swapped from the stock receiver to a rc4gs to get the full capability of it
In my experience the Slash has been the most fun car I have had. I've raced an RC10 and Ultima and owned a dozen other models, but the Slash is the most fun and most versatile...and parts support is FAR better than any other brand !!.. including the aftermarket. True, they really aren't for racing, except spec racing -- like Slash spec racing, which is a ball - but for everything else they are great.
Most of my fleet is Traxxas and I've gotten used to the hate that's out here haha. I've had a few Arrma vehicles (3s Granite, 3s Typhon, 3s Vorteks and TLR Tuned Typhon) and most of that experience hasn't been great. What I appreciate the most about Traxxas is something you already mentioned and it's the parts support. Also, as you mentioned, I'm not one who is big into tinkering so my vehicles are going to stay mostly stock. Proprietary electronics do piss me off a bit though lol
Hands down, some of the best words ever spoken on the subject.. and the summary was spit polish dead on... if you love it, it's right.. even when it's wrong, lol.. you gotta new sub and I'm really looking forward to going through your content!! Thank you brother!! Keep it coming!!
Great video. I only have traxxas but only been in hobby for 3 years. I am currently saving for an Infraction. Ive seen pros and cons on all brands. Just like ford and chevy. Just get what makes you happy. Great video. 👊👊
As an avid electronics worker, the properietarity of it all is frown worthy. Personally, I rewired and re-soldered most of the connections on my decade old stampede so I could run my own custom electronics in it. The Traxxas Titan 12t is the pinnacle of planned obsolescence . It’s just an RS-550S with worse thermal properties (so that it wears out faster) and is extremely inefficient.
I prefer the traxxas charging system being so simple while having features like phone app support though if I wasn't satisfied with their stock esc I may feel differently. Course brushed motors are old tech but they still have their place and going brushless with traxxas is fairly cheap with their trade in program. I upgraded my 4-tec 2.0 ford gt to vxl, still have my ford mustang brushed as its mostly a loaner I only drive occasionally but still enjoy driving.
Love my xmaxx, love my limitless, love my udr, love my Lmt sod, love my kraton, outcast, notorious. Absolutely love my infraction and felony. And my 1/10 touring racer.About to get the sledge. So yeh I don’t care what it is as long as I can have fun with it.
For me a beginner in the RC i bought a Hoss. It was used by a young 14yo kid. Never maintained. I expected it to have issues but kinda wanted it to, so I could learn to wrench on it. It's been over a year now and I've been able to upgrade and replace everything that needed to be to keep the truck running smooth. Although I understand the hate for the "brand" it seems to be a good truck. Reliable, fun, and tuff. Buy what makes you smile. Great vid.
I know Traxxas has done the lawsuit stuff and all that, but to me the most onerous thing is their requiring hobbyshops to have "Traxxas-Only" stores if they sell stuff online too. Apparently Traxxas doesn't like it if people compete with their own online sales, so if hobbyshops sell more than a certain amount and don't have a Traxxas-only store, Traxxas will stop giving them stuff with their holdbacks or whatever for better pricing. As a result, the closest hobby shop to my house is Traxxas-only. I went in there to see if I could get a traxxas to EC5 adapter and they said, "well, we're not allowed to sell those here, you'd have to go to our other location. However, you can pay me 5 dollars and I will go solder one together from 'repair parts' in the back."
I've worked in a hobby shop and done the repairs on customer vehicles as well as my own. I have actually had Arrma rc's in the shop for over 8 months cause horizon parts reliability sucks and have sent more broken arrmas back to horizon and horizon actually sent these customers new vehicles because their parts were on backorder and would take twice as long to get to repair it. Traxxas always had the parts on the wall!!!!!!! Never had backorder issues with traxxas. Don't get me started on hpi, team ass., Red cat or axial!!
The parts supply is what draws me to traxxas I have a hpi baja 5b that has absolutely pissed me off that the company has gone down hill and I have a $2000 rc I can't use because of parts supply issuse and now only can pay huge retail for parts because of there rarity so Im going back to traxxas
The reason HPI went downhill is because you guessed it, Traxxas sued them and bankrupt them. Same they sued Arrma because the horizontal shock system, and both times they won and bankrupt company's. That's also the reason I stick with HPI and Arrma because they are great vehicles, and I rather not bring my money towards a company that's trying to destroy other brands that I love.
@@feki122 guess that traxxas sueing the other brands worked for them because its has forced me back to traxxas brand but I see hpi is coming back finally they have new rc's available again and some baja parts are back
I have Kyosho, Arrma, Traxxas, Latrax, Haiboxing, Wltoys, Dromida and HPI racing. They all offer something I like. For me it's not about brand loyalty but rather how much fun I can have.
Perfectly explained. I have both Traxxas and Arrma with a few others, they all have their own character and every time I use them I have the biggest grin on my face, it’s pure enjoyment. You have a Wonderful channel, straight talking no nonsense say it how it is approach, much appreciated.
I think the reason Traxxas has a bad name is because they have a long history. In the past especially with their nitro vehicles they made them to very substandard standards. And then they would nickel and dime you to death to get the parts fixed. Or they were put in junk parts in the vehicle knowing that you have to go out and buy the upgraded parts or go broke buying the same parts over and over and over and over again. And then also they didn’t perform well or anything. They didn’t have the best bashers they didn’t have racers that were worth a darn. That said I think the newest generation of Traxxas are the best They have ever been.
Agreed on all points. My traxxas crawlers compared to other brands, I can say the quality is tops. The extra money I spent is money well spent. I have had no issues with them
Well said. I have 5 different crawler brands in the stable. I like them all. But I’ve got to say, if I had to only keep one, it would be the Traxxas. It’s not the best but it certainly is the most dependable and best “all around/overall” truck.
O and didn't arrma just copy team Durango. then team corally copy arrma. shoot there is a lot of monster truggies out there. the erevo vs nero thing I own both and I have to say that is a TVP chassis HD copy. erevo drives better nero bigrock is stronger.
Imo theres no value for what you pay for a traxxas cars in the basher department. Value for money is what a lot people prioritize. Then theres durability. Here in where i live my hobbyshop has almost any arrma part i need. Other brands are catching up in part support. For me what was the nail in the coffin was traxxas trying to stop competition with lawsuits. They even sued HPO max a tv channel like what. 90% of their cars are overpriced stuff that Have been recycled for decades.
No value? I still have a rustler 12t that I've done nothing with except bash, and let my young kids bash, for over 5 years now. Never changed any of the electronics, and have only ever had to change arms. 189, and came RTR. I've never came across any value in the rc market like that. I agree with the lawsuit stuff, but every company has done that except Chinese knock offs. So there isn't much you can say on the subject. As far as recycled stuff, ever hear the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"? It's like McDonald's. A #1 has always been a #1, made the same way for decades, people know what they are getting, no questions.
@@dwaynewilliams3077 like i said im a basher the value for money in the bashing scene with traxxas is non existent. They want you to pay it feels like 30% more than the competition and you get in a lot of cases less for ur bucks. There might be some value on the brushed trucks because they are slower and harder to break things because of it. Perfect for a little kid but for an adult who wants to send its rc full speed out of ramps its a big No
@@EXTREMERC416 and I was talking about their brushed models. They are perfect entry level bashers. That is why I was very specific on what model I was talking about. Now if you wanna step up to brushless, arrma and traxxas are pretty well tied, and I honestly don't think anyone has anything on either, be it ecx, redcat, etc... Maybe the mt10 might be up their with em but that's about it.
Great video, I love my Traxxas Aton drones. The electronic parts for it seems non existent. Traxxas no longer carries the motherboards, GPS modules, etc..
i completely disagree with traxxas ease of repair. it's the only thing i strongly dislike about them compared to all my other RCs.. take the UDR for example.. its over engineered.. yeah its a GREAT looking truck and drives awesome when it works.. but having to basically completely disassemble the entire car to fix driveline parts that break extremely easily is a pain in the rump... the xmax is another example.. the plastic that holds the main spur gear in place is much too weak and will eventually wear out and your spur gear will move away from the pinion essentially stripping one of the other.. the issue i have with this is... its 32 screws to access the parts necessary to change them.. traxxas nitro: most post 2010 traxxas nitro engines are junk and wont last more than a gallon of nitro without losing pinch or popping a seal or throwing the rod.. they are ported for ease of starting (joke) not for performance and tend to far under perform.. the electric starter motor usually goes up in smoke within a few runs so people usually replace it with a pull starter so people can sit there and laugh at them for jerking their RC off for 20 minutes trying to turn it on.
I stay away from Traxxas just due to their patent lawsuits. Seems they'd rather sue then provide the better product. Even set up their HQ where patent lawsuits usually win, even when they don't seem like they should. However, their entry level stuff and part support is good and is going to help get more people into the hobby. That's really great. Though the proprietary stuff (batteries, chargers etc.) that you mentioned then tend to keep the new people going back to the same brand. Why try another brand when you have to buy a diff battery/charger.... First "hobby grade" RC I bought was a Helion. The entire brand is now gone due to a Traxxas lawsuit which seemed to be BS. Ended up getting some Arrma's since there were no more parts for the Helion and I didn't want to support the "Umbrella Corp" of the RC world by buying a Traxxas. Now I have 0 RC's. Had just one friend that I could go bash with and he got out of the hobby. Not nearly as much fun on your own. Might get something again soon but probably going to stick with Arrma, Losi, Team Associated (Horizon Hobby) brands. The part support of Traxxas is intriguing but the lawsuits are hurting the hobby so I won't support them.
My bandit vxl runs exclusively on $20 M12 Milwaukee drill batteries. It runs roughly the same speed as when it's on my buddy's lipo, if not faster. Battery gets hot, but it's a $20 battery. I've been using them for less than a year so I cannot speak for longevity, but they give me a decent run time. I just cut the cable from my old battery, crimped some simple connectors on it, and stuck them into the M12. The 12v is a little high for the speed controller, but I have not noticed any issues. I originally tried a 18v ryobi with a voltage step down buck converter, and it worked, but was not getting the speeds I wanted.
I have a smaller Traxxas Slash 1/16, and my 5 year old & friends is bashing the shit out of it, and stuff breaks when he smashes into things, and when tiny gravel finds it way into every little crack in the chassis. So I bought this Traxxas because of the availability of parts, the flexibility of its plastic, the possibility of dual batteries (for longer runtimes), the "training mode" (50% speed) on the ESC, and the easy-to-use batteries and chargers (even a 5 year old can handle it without messing things up). So... my question is, are there any similar (or better) alternatives to Traxxas for smaller kids, 5+ years old?
Traxxas plastics are second to none, they have modern chassis design in the x-maxx and maxx that are well beyond anything else on the market and their parts are cheap compared to others. However their electronics are pretty tame and not up to scratch even if they are pretty feature rich. And over here in the UK their warranty is junk, it is often 'voided' for abitrary reasons and is sketchy at best when concerning UK consumer rights, oh and proprietary shit. Its a nightmare and costly to buy out of the 'walled garden' if you arent happy with it. You've hit on 99% of this and Im impressed, its hard not to see a little bias in most of these types of videos and I think you've done a good job at being fair
Dependable, part availability and customer service. Traxxas nailed it. While I do love all my RC's, iIf I had to keep just one from the many I have, Traxxas would be the one.
Hi, I just found your channel by accident, and listened with interest to your talk about Traxxas, I totally agree with everything that you say. I have had all the main, and obscure Rc’s throughout my years and to be totally honest, Traxxas is my “go to” Rc these days. I know how companies work, and as you said the ecosystem of Traxxas is very similar to Apple, people want a plug and play life, somewhere you can get parts for all their ‘toys’ and I get it, I really do. I am 66 this year and for the past 40 of them I have been in and out of the hobby in some form or another, it gets into your blood, and i keep coming back to it, and the easiest way for me is Traxxas … I have a couple of other brands, but getting parts when they break, is not easy. Anyhoo….. love the channel, I am away now to watch more of your vids…. You gained another subscriber today for your honest and up front talk. Cheers from sunny Scotland.
I am glad you made this video....set the record straight!!! as long as you are having fun that is all that counts!!! no matter what brand that you drive!!! you make your own story!!!
Hey man excellent review! What was that channel name that you said at 6:44? Sounded like you said "scale signs" but I can't find a channel by that name
Yep. You nailed it. 💯 I've spent many moons pondering such thoughts, grasping for the truth of questions i havent yet obtained answers to. You have relieved me of this mental anguish. 😌 keep up the good work guys 👏
This is a change of pace from the regular content but I enjoyed it, it seems like you saw a tweet or post on social media and thought “$&@? This I’m sick of the BS time to set the record strait” haha great video 😄👍🏻
We went to a Traxxas dealer just to see what they had. My dad has a 12 year old RedCat nitro buggy that hasn't been run in like 11 years (sister ran over his radio). They guy who works at Traxxas picked the parts we needed, and told us how to set it up. Boy oh boy, seeing them old servos move was something to see. Can't wait to slap a glow plug in it and get some fuel in that car. I wonder how many more Traxxas parts we can put on that old RedCat. 😅
So i have something to say.... I am a grown as 39 year old man with 2 kids (Girl 19, son 16) My daughter and i collect weapons, and i struggled connecting with my son (magic, yugio, etc.) I remembered that my grandfather always bought me RC cars, and trucks when he came back from a trip. Now these are the ones with the controller on a cable... So nothing like now. I bought a super cheap 16th scale basher truck on amazon, and had a good time. Then i saw adds and whatnot for traxxas. After about 3 weeks or so i went and got a 2wd slash. I kept hearing about all the shock caps and other issues.. But im happy to report that i have had no issues, and run it daily. (i dont bash it though) I took my son to my local BMX track and we let it rip.... I can attest that we both fell in love and now we both have 2 traxxas trucks. We are looking into drift cars next, which is how i ended up here, but let me tell you Thank you Traxxas, you saved my relationship with my son. (at least for now) every night we are outside having a great time. We dont use any of the traxxas chargers or batteries, cause, yeah, no, not paying that much. But i do agree, its nice to know that when something does break, i can go to a local store, and get what i need. .... Cool video. Thanks.
I've been in this hobby for the last 30 years. I have almost 300 cars in my collection, of almost every single brand but not a single Traxxas. Why? My TRX4 electronics went out the first week, my UDR gave me plenty of problems with the axles the gears and the arms, my Slash broke something every single time I used it and almost the same with the rest of the Traxxas cars I had, So I decided to forget about the brand, especially after the rude and discourteous treatment by the customer service, who also treated me like a fool. I don't hate Traxxas, but I can't stand their business model, their lies and their way of stealing money. Super cheap and bad electronics, plastics, old designs and how they're trying to kill smaller but much better brands are not for me.
When I was a kid, I watched traxxas videos and dreamed about an rc car. As soon as I turned 10, my parents bought me an hpi bullet flux. I think I’ve never been so happy, it was beautiful, and fast. Sadly, it was not as durable as what I thought. I think that during the 10 years I’ve owned it, it went through 10 diffs, and the same amount of a arms… As a teen, I barely had no money to fix these things, and parts were so hard to find and expensive. 2 years ago, for my 18th birthday, I bought myself a slash ultimate while visiting Texas with my parents. The difference with the hpi Just shocked me, being able to find cheap parts anywhere, being stronger than the hpi with metal parts and not having disposable diffs… for me traxxas is the perfect balance of performance and durability, and when you compare what you spend in spare parts in other brands, the price is not that high, but that’s just from my point of view.
Just got my first r/c truck at 53, I've always been a fly guy but an incredible on road/off road r/c racing track was built in my town so I picked one up. After taking a good long look at my options I went with the Arrma Vorteks and love it. I didn't go with the Arrma because I "hate" Traxxas though, I just liked the Vorteks features and wanted to try something different.
Great video! I am a Traxxas fan. My XMAXX is my number 1 favorite RC and I have put that truck through hell and back! I have no complaints with Traxxas. Parts for my E-Maxx are still available.
i dont like how exclusive they try to be, like how their wheels have the little spokes on the hexes so they only fit on traxxas hexes, or their connectors, but worst of all how much of a bully they are in the legal world. they will sue anyone just because they have the money to
I own a few vehicles from Traxxas. Most of them are currently dismantled in my workshop as I haven’t got around to fixing them yet, and currently im looking for a job so I can fix them, currently the pride of my collection is my Kyosho USA 1 that is borrowing my tmaxx body.
There are many low priced lipos with trx connectors on places like amazon that work great with the stock electronics. I've never understood that complaint.
Very well said! I have 9 RC cars/trucks right now and 3 of them are Traxxas. But over the past 25 years I've had quite a few Traxxas vehicles, electric and nitro and I enjoyed all of them!
The part support is amazing, but not all original tmaxx parts are readily available. The narrow arm stuff is getting a lot harder to find, you obviously have the option to update to the widemaxx stuff. Some of the 3906 parts are getting rough to find as well. I love traxxas and i have owned most all the big brands.
Traxxas started out with copying other brands and are now the biggest patent trolls on the block. They literally patent stuff that wouldnt hold up in court, simply to use it as ammo to attack other companies and if said company cant survive the cease and resist, its over for them. They killed off Hobbico, HPI and Maclan Racing and even tried going after HBO Max.
I have a few rc vehicles, my first was a helion from the local Hobbytown, but parts availability wasn't great, and there was no aftermarket support for if I found I needed a more robust part (looking at the plastic differential housings) picked up a Traxxas Nitro Slash, and now I've got a Revo, a second Nitro Slash, and even picked up a vintage early 90s Nitro Sport. The "new Sport" had already been discontinued, but I could still get factory replacement parts for it because Traxxas has great parts availability. My next RC is probably going to be an electric Traxxas of some flavor because I don't have anywhere local to get Nitro fuel anymore.
I got the traxxas bug back in 2008, the slash, been a fan ever since, along with redcat. I've tried many brand's, and found myself like you, my traxxas line is a bit large!
I had a big gap in my RC days from the early 90’s to around 2001. Saw a guy running a RC monster truck across a parking lot and the damn thing shifted gears! So, I had to go see. Obviously, it was a T-max and I was hooked again. I used to frown upon RTR style RC. If you couldn’t build it, you didn’t deserve to play. However, I think it’s great Traxxas has gotten so many people into the hobby.
I just personally dont feel like i get the full “hobby grade” experience of rc with Traxxas vehicles. But i dont have any negative feelings towards them. I would like to see them jump into the actual racing scene though.
Ima add a bit more, I have a 1/16 model that started life as the Kyle Bush Toyota Nascar Truck then got converted to the Mustang Boss 302 and now has been converted to a slash since the mustang body is falling apart due to it being used and abused as well as it being old. Almost all of the parts on the damn thing are the original parts and it's still running strong including the parts I cant replace due to them being retired. So far I've only had to replace a servo, spur gear, and the receiver and transmitter and that's just due to me owning for years. I recently got a TRX-4M and its stupid fun and I'm not really a crawler person. I've got 2 Tamiya's and one of them is about as old as the 1/16 traxxas i have and I've only broken the steering on it and I'm surprised that they still make parts for it.
I remember Mike in Garland Tx. (DFW) back during the '80s. It was a slot car raceway and r/c was really making steam...Traxxas really took off and slots took a back seat at the time..What fun!!
I own 100% Traxxas and could care less what anyone has to say about it. I'm new to the RC Hobby and watched about every RC video on YT for 6-7 years before making my choice. Traxxas was the clear winner in all categories in my opinion and that was that! I own a Slash Ultimate, Maxx V2 and a Defender and have been 110% satisfied with all of them from day one. I'm just trying to spend my money wisely and get the most out of every dollar that I spend. I believe that Traxxas has absolutely provided that!
@@10thScaleGarage Thanks Brother! I appreciate the feed back. I am trying to avoid what I call the "Basher's Paradox"... :) I have seen hundreds if not thousands of examples of that and would like to avoid the schedule of "run it/break it" then spend time ordering parts/waiting for them to arrive and fixing it before it can be ran again, when I can be out there running it in stead! At some point, I'll probably join the "Basher's Paradox" club with one RC and see what I think about that kind of play, but for now, I'm sticking with a more financially sound approach! :) I haven't been in the hobby long enough to know which aspects of it that I prefer yet!
If traxxas was a bit more “affordable” they would get so much less hate. I’m an old school tamiya and kyosho guy but traxxas has always had a place in my heart since my first revo. Traxxas makes some awesome vehicles especially for people that want an RTR thats fairly reliable easy to use and has many aftermarket parts
I raced Team Associated RC10T & Team Car Graphite back in the early 90's when I ran them in 2010 or so parts were unavailable so i was afraid of going thru my stock of parts and i did my research and bought a Stampede to bash on and never looked backwards. I have a Slash 4x4 Ultimate, 2 Stampedes, Highly Modified TRX-4 Blazer and a LOSI LMT and that breaks the most.
There is just one thing i dont like about traxxas. Their mediocre quality at the same time expensive electronics, with stupid connectors. Other than that, i love what they do.
New to the hobby and experiencing everything you descrive... my local shop carries Traxxas but clearly prefer Armma...and pretty much anything else. I appreciate this video. You earned a sub.
Biggest pet peeve with any VXL 2wd model is how week the slipper shaft pin is, I have snapped more then I can count on two hands, does anyone else have this same problem? It doesn’t matter if my slipper clutch is loose or tight, eventually, after running my slash 2wd long enough, I shear off that stupid pin inside the transmission casing causing me to have to take the whole transmission out of the car and replace the shaft with a new one
Not a big traxxas fan, but I did use the new maxx slash chassis and an HPI XL body to make a long wheel base, LCG maxx that is pretty out of control on 6S.
I ain’t even going to lie the start of this video made me want to return my car lol glad I watched the whole video great content bro new to the hobby and enjoyed the knowledge
ON RTR @7:00 - If you've ever driven your 1/10 scale ANYTHING in anger, or truly bashed it - maybe fully submerged it in the river, whatever - you've got to get in there and disassemble EVERYTHING. It should be part of the process to learn your UBER EXPENSIVE electronics and toys, part of the responsibility for anyone old enough to run a real R/C. I specifically bought higher-end stuff for my family and young nephews to help them learn complex mechanical systems and microelectronic basics.
My son & I love our Traxxas stuff. They're fun, easy to work on, easy to get parts to repair or upgrade. Being RTR is a plus when you don't have time to build from scratch, then figure out electronics & the proper controller, etc. Those costs add up quick. Is why I gave up on Tamiya. The super clod buster I'm building, slowly, isn't even from Tamiya. Every part has been ordered through JConcepts or CPE so that it's all the upgraded aluminum parts from frame, to axels, 4 links, gears & bearings. A waterproof Hobbywing dual motor ESC. The rest of the electronics are all Traxxas.
Both my trucks are Traxxas, never had a lot of the issues most say they have other than one had a dead motor, but it's a super old stampede. That being said both are more RPM parts than traxxas parts. The stampede has a Hobby wing Max 10 sct combo, my 2wd slash has a castle copperhead 10 combo in it, and both have aftermarket servos so I could turn the voltage up. And swapped out the receivers for that reason, and to have them both bound to one remote with a screen. But like you said, they're simple to work on, parts are everywhere but online. Here in Canada I find local stores are better than anything online (amazon, ebay etc). And theres tons of info on them, everything is accessible and easy.
once you've been in the hobby long enough to know every company has their pros and cons you understand it's a childish mindset to have brand loyalty but i will say i have been really disappointed with my XMAXX. i bought it brand new because i didn't want to risk buying secondhand and having to replace anything right away. the first month of ownership i've warrantied the ESC and motor, and have had to replace the servo because of how awful the stock one is. my stock wheels blew apart as well. i am happy traxxas has one of the best warranties in the industry with about a week turnaround on parts but it's embarrassing to admit all the problems i've had on a thousand dollar truck. meanwhile my kraton 8s only breaks parts when i jump the shit out of it, electronics have been nothing but solid and i've got twice the runtime as the XMAXX in half the time. i was surprised at the stock settings on the kraton 8s though, you have to dial the punch and motor timing up to feel like you got your money's worth, and they don't even set the servo to 8.4v out of the box even though it can do it. very odd.
daym thats crazy... i take mine to the skate part every week and launch it ez 10ft and land on concrete. never broken a single part except for tires. (I like to 2 wheel drive it on its side causes the other tires to expand and sometimes pop) Guess you either got a bad unit or cant drive. Buddy of mine has a kraton. By now, hes spent more money on replacing the bent metal frame than the actual car. And no, im not a traxxas fanboy. I go to axial for my rock crawlers and i have an arrma infraction. But for 5th scale bashing, the xmaxx is king.
It’s so crazy how people can have totally different experiences with the same RC. I’ve driven two different xmaxx’s. One stripped the spurr on a little jump. The other one caught fire. Meanwhile my Outcast 8S breaks every time I run it.
Mind you im talking from australia. Im no traxxas fanboy, but the biggest reason i have 2 is mainly parts availability. Unlike say a kyosho or losi, associated whetever, traxxas bits are easy to get. Plus theres a massive and available aftermarket. So my slash 4x4 i keep pretty stock, but my maxx, well thats had all the suspensions, telemetrys and runs 6s power and breakage is frequent. It tops out at 145kmh (90mph) on the gps and understandibly if you stack it at a high rate of knots things break. But parts are easy and comparably cheap to get and replace.
I own a Traxxas Slash 4x4, it's had a few parts broken, but I love it, love the experience, and love how easy it is to use. Good talk, yep, pretty much Apple in an rc car.
I own a lot of Arma and one Traxxas. The Traxxas is biult very well and I've hardly had to do anything to it. The Arma's keep me pretty busy but the better I get at driving them the more its about performance upgrades and maintenance than constant repair. I think both brands are very good. These two companies definitely seem to take different approaches to design with makes the hobby more diverse. I personally really enjoy driving both brands.
It’s not about not liking or not liking Traxxas RC’s it’s about liking or not liking the company which is a whole different thing no one has to support them in any way which is fine but to be an RC enthusiast & not have single Traxxas would be ashamed because they make some really good RC’s like it or not I fan but when I see an RC that I really want not liking the brand for other reasons besides the actual products isn’t the best of idea’s we are on,y on this planet once might as well get those Traxxas RC’s ya want.
I love my slash 2wd I have upgraded it pretty much to where it’s not stock and love it but I have been lookin into Amara recently because I want to get into 8s slash is on 3s and it’s pretty quick but I want to take jumps and be able to do tricks
I’ve gone through 2 traxxas brushless esc, and the cables to a third one broke but a small wire repair and somehow it works. But I’m just waiting to see some smoke one day and then no mas
Out of the 14 cars that I have, 9 are Traxxas. I haven't had any problems with durability with my Traxxas cars. If I need a part, my LHS has it in stock. Parts availability is probably the number one reason why I stick with Traxxas.
Bought a 2nd hand Traxxas Slash for my son to learn to race. In our second year of racing with myself racing the adult class using the same truck, Its had some mods since I got it and a gradual rebuild front to rear over the time. Best fun we have together and it doesn't matter what brand car you have, they all look the same on their roof.
I generally have a pretty simple view of Traxxas. I think they make good product. I hate their proprietary electronics and I think they're a little over-priced. But that marketing budget isn't going to pay for itself. But they do have a lot of 1st and they do make good product so at leas there's that. And no matter what we think of Traxxas, the RC hobby certainly wouldn't be where it is today without them so it's a good thing they're around just like other good RC brands out there. A rising tide lifts all boats.
I have been mostly a Traxxas guy for almost 3 Years total and most of my vehicles are Traxxas but i will be trying Arrma soon. The gripes i have are most of they're models are designed from stock to use they're expensive batteries and chargers and a few of their models like XO-1 which i have one the stock esc has proprietary programing in the esc to use with stock radio system. I'm glad i bought my XO-1 as a roller so don't have to deal with the proprietary electronics and i get to pick my own. and they're are many more gripes i have with Traxxas nut i like them the most so far but thanks for the video.
I work at a hobby store and our biggest sellers are Traxxas and Arrma. Both brands have their strengths and both brands have their weaknesses. In the end, it comes down to who YOU are and what you want your rc to do.
I have kyosho, and range of smaller cars, never had a traxxas before..then friend gave me a rustler that his kids got bored of..just a 2wd rustler but man the quality of the plastics and fit n finish are great, can only imagine what the high end cars look like
The problem is people feel like they have to pick a side or team, they all have good and bad models. Good and bad aspects from all brands. Just buy what makes you happy and you like 👍
For me you don't have to stick to one brand if you want a rc car go ahead and buy it
100%.
No, not so much in my book, trax ass is just a garbage company.
They flood the market with crap, (garbage electronics, brittle plastics, gimick over substance)
They are as proprietory as they can be, they are sue happy. (They own the word MAXX? I think not.)
There cars are good enough to move for a battery, but I've never seen one win anything but drag racing one time.
Buy them all!! That’s my motto
"if i had a dolor every time a traxxas servo broke i would have enough money to fix my arrmas" how to provoke two different fanboys at once
If I had a dollar for every woman who didn’t want me, I’d soon have every woman.
Underrated comment 😂
Awesome...
Too bad I have no dolors
I say: Buy whatever brand makes YOU the happiest. I own several of each brand: Arrma, Traxxas, Redcat, Tamiya, & Kyosho to name a few, and I even own some ZD Racing RCs; ALL of them put miles of smiles on my face for different reasons and I love, break, and repair all my cars. They ALL make great cars, and they ALL make some junk vehicles. Go with whatever YOU can afford and makes YOU happy, but don't listen to the haters. All of that said.... When you're the big boy at the top, everyone tries to knock you down to be the new king.
The only reason I don't like them is because they are an incredibly predatory company. The are litigious as F.
That's not true if the other companies would just build their own shit and stop copying what Traxxas has developed
Traxxas is in top because of their customers support and part support and not discontinuing products in 2 months making models obsolete
@@paulclancy2404 Yeah who'd have thought about putting the receiver in a waterproof box? Oh yeah, everyone!

I agree with that.
I have a 2wd slash that I dump over a grand into. Now it’s a no prep drag car. Go figure.
Huge.
Super true, I feel like this guy is just rambling about only the bad things. I own a traxxas vehicle and really enjoy it.
Your full of crap
Lmao nah it’s all plastic junk.
Arrma products are always on backorder it seems lol. Always waiting months of stupid things. Like right now, the steering servo is on backorder for the 1/18 grom. Like come on ...
My X-Maxx and TRX4/TRX6 rigs are some of my favorites! Like them or hate them they have helped grow the RC world into what it is today.
Yeah the steering servo in the xmaxx made me a fan for life too!!
That would be Tamiya… Traxxas is the Toys R Us of RC.
Lmao! 😂@@RingLeaderElon
Just like Kev Talbot says.....Whatever car puts the biggest smile on your face , is the correct one for ya.
I totally agree with you on almost all these points. The Nero story is important to the industry. We were all robbed on that one
A friend of mine bought a Nero. First time I looked at it I knew there would be lawsuits from Big T. Nice truck though
But as a company, it's chock full of the same proprietary, litigious, corporate bullshit as Horizon Hobby (which is killing many legendary brands all on it's own)
But honestly, social media has just killed most of the joy right out of this hobby, and I'm a 38 year veteran.
I own all traxxas I do all the work on all my cars I don’t hate on other brands I just prefer traxxas but I would love to get some other brands to try out
Yeah....sounds like your the problem.

Just to set the record straight, a lot of Traxxas's "creative" designs and features are actually highly derivative of other manufacturers' models.
I’m with you. I either change the plugs or run adapters.
The Slash us a great rig. I just keep my Traxxas rigs the same. It's easier for me. Happy Rcing!
The car plug upset me when I bought my 2wd slash but luckily I had bought a prophet charger and extra battery because I knew I wanted to run it a lot and I swapped from the stock receiver to a rc4gs to get the full capability of it
Just do what Kevin Talbot does and change the battery plugs...
I too have different brands of rcs..sixteenth in total. I just keep my Traxxas electronics Traxxas but upgrade with Tekno, RPM ect. Happy Rcing!
I consider “Walmart brand” one of the 16 or so brands I have as well
Hands down, some of the best words ever spoken on the subject.. and the summary was spit polish dead on... if you love it, it's right.. even when it's wrong, lol.. you gotta new sub and I'm really looking forward to going through your content!!
Great vid.
Nice! Thanks for watching
I own all different brands of RC’s but i absolutely love my maxx v2.Easy to fix parts easy to find and tough as nails.
Ha!! Well that just make a good opportunity for someone else in that neighborhood to open up another hobby shop.
I still have my original tmax 1.5 and an original rustler 1.5 that still run. Now I did have to upgrade drive shafts on both but I love these cars!!
I love my traxxas, the tenth scale 4x4 cars (slash stampede etc) are basically rc car lego. So many interchageable parts.
Agreed
When did they bring out the high low transmission?
Beautifully said and I completely agree. Whatever makes anyone smile and enjoy this or any hobby is the only thing that matters. Each unto their own.
My TRX4 has never broken. My other cars break all the time.
I'm just wondering how traxxas copied arrma? Arrma was the first to build an 1/8 scale truggy. I'm guessing u r referring to the sledge.
@@dwaynewilliams3077 tell me where is the value in a entry 3s truck Like the slash for 430$ for the 4wd and The 2wd is 349.99$?
The “ultimate is 549$ who still needs upgrades if you want to abuse it
@@dwaynewilliams3077 like i said im a basher the value for money in the bashing scene with traxxas is non existent.
Brilliant as always. The Beard is looking good. Thanks for sharing. Catch ya on the flip side. John
Great video,
I love my Traxxas Aton drones.
Anything that is the best always attracts lots of hate. Cars, presidents, Buisness owners even you tubers it’s just jealousy.
Did you even watch the video or just the title?
How much Traxxas pay you for comment?
Everyone doesn't hate Traxxas. They may in your world but their numbers tell another story so..............................
Traxxas is trash, and yes thay sell well but also look how many people are trying to sell them after thay buy them.
@booost420 yes true, I bought one a long time ago and never again.
Cheers! I’m glad you’re here!
I have a Redcat shredder and the back left driveshaft pops out all the time. Do you know of a fix for this?
I always felt like Traxxas is an amazing brand to get people into the hobby, then they can go from there and try and buy other brands .
Totally.
But i do agree, its nice to know that when something does break, i can go to a local store, and get what i need. .... Cool video. Thanks.
I have a traxxas big foot and i cant get the transmission out of the truck it is just like your rustler do you have any tips?
It should be in a split case. Just remove the screws? There’s parts breakdowns available on Traxxas.com
Love the vorteks
It was a slot car raceway and r/c was really making steam...Traxxas
really took off and slots took a back seat at the time..What fun!!
Smart!
Haha I do believe that is Matt from RC Hobby Shop in Houston at 0:42 lol Interesting seeing him here
If traxxas was a bit more “affordable” they would get so much less hate.
What are the best alternative brands
I ain’t even going to lie the start of this video made me want to return my car lol glad I watched the whole video great content bro new to the hobby and enjoyed the knowledge
Appreciate it!!
Remember the whole Disney controversy?
I have an original Tmaxx and it's still running. I did replace some parts but minor.
That’s a good reason!
In the end, it comes down to who YOU are and what you want your rc to do.
so i guess you are from houston based on the store in the video. I just got into this hobby. I am enjoying your content.
I have kyosho, and range of smaller cars, never had a traxxas before..then friend gave me a rustler that his kids got bored of..just a 2wd rustler but man the quality of the plastics and fit n finish are great, can only imagine what the high end cars look like
