Ole man here, I was into RC (heavy) back in 96’ ish I had the Team Associated 10gt with my 3PS and epic upgrades, best days of my life. Race days I put in my 9003 servos for speed. I’m in FL now, the tracks are so hard to find. Traxxis has always been upcoming. Thank you for sharing this. It’s an outstanding hobby and I can’t understand why the sport isn’t crazy involved
Hey Kevin, I wouldn't tape the holes in the rims. A vacuum is created in the tires. They get very narrow at high revs. In addition, there is no pressure equalization and the vehicle becomes harder and restless. That's my experience with it.
Hey Kevin and anyone else. Ive had that same problem with a few rc cars. You said about the Kraton motors not supported at the back. I just put a big dab/glob of Black Rtv Silicone down on the chassis , by the rear of the motor. Then install the motor and let it set a few hours or more. No more loose, or messed up motors. Easy fix I use. Hope it helps you. James
I do same. My brother installs car windshields so he gave me some of the super strong Urethane they use to put windshields in. Never had a problem. Although getting the motor back out is a bit more work but nbd.
Always a proper test coming from Kevin. If you're going to buy an RC car, always come here to find it's true pro's and con's. Kevin is a national RC treasure who has saved me tons of money.
Ahh yes, the joy of watching a Kevin Talbot video as I got a notification that a brand new Kevin Talbot video was just released! Much love from a new RC fanatic!
Some additional criticisms given that it's priced at £750/$800: - anodised parts not colour coordinated (unless you choose the blue body) - plastic shock caps - no cooling fan on the motor (Traxxas sell it as an optional extra) - heavy at 5.77kg (without batteries) - appears to understeer (not properly remedied by TSM) - lack of control at high speeds due to ballooning tyres - same old Traxxas ESC - motor brace doesn't screw onto other motors like a Hobbywing - 6061 chassis of 3.2mm thickness
Traxxas wants you just Buy their gear. The batteries, electronics and so on. That motor mount and it's position doesn't give you much room if any for a bigger can for more power!! It's just the Traxxas way!!! 😝😆😆😆👍
That is a really cool new Truggy. Even if Traxxas did essentially make a Kraton. It does look suspiciously like Traxxas did their homework watching this channel to find out the weak points of the Kraton design. Great work Kev!!
And considering traxxas filed a law suit against arrma for using similar shock setup as the Revo leading to a stop in sales of a really cool arrma car.
Also love that it comes with pins for the battery tray to keep batteries from popping out. That would have been a good feature to point out. Another little addition to detail that they paid attention to.Thanks for the vid. I go by your durability tests. If it holds up to you.... I dont bash as hard or get as much air, just love the fun and my sessions are like a Monster Jam session. Lol
Damn Traxxas was smart making that chassis tubbed around the edges along with the pinch bracing, it’s like they studied all the flaws with the arrma than corrected them even the motor mount! I approve 👍🏻 Great content as always Kev!
While I like the motor mount bracing, I am not a fan of being unable to install heatsink and fan on it. Though it does seem to have at least fan mounting holes. Maybe that would be enough.
At least with Kevin doing the testing you know that he is giving an honest response to the models. He is the only person I have seen that can be more abusive than a 10 year old on Christmas morning that is really trying to break something as fast as they can so they can break the next toy . Keep up the great videos Kevin 👍👍👍
I see this as being more stable in turns than my X-Maxx and as equally durable. But when it comes to bashing and off road, IMO the X-Maxx does it way better than what I saw here. It quite possibly because of the lower ground clearance. While it helps with stability in cornering, it seems more prone to flipping when jumped. I can tell those stock tires won't last long. I agree. That steering servo is slow. I'm sure the ESC may require replacement after a while. So far I'm not seeing why I would want one unless I wanted a track truck that might handle better after a steering servo and belted tire replacement. I love to jump and go off-road. So far the X-Maxx has spoiled me :-)
Great vid, and it does look like a Kraton as Vinnie point out. A beefed up 1 that makes me think awesome specially after seeing the abuse it took 😂 Traxxas definetly put some thought into this new release and smashed it although maybe a little on the high side price wise. Those tyres definetly need swapping out for something belted, then it really will be a great stable platform. More for racing around with belted but for just bashing about the stock tyres do the job all that rotating mass certainly gives good air control 😎
In regards to the price. If you buy a kraton 6s and mod it up to be ‘good’ I bet it costs more than the sledge. This car does look like it does what the Kraton should have done out of the box. Just those horrid traxxas batteries though.
Big difference between a 40ft drop off onto a smooth surface graded hill, and a 40ft vertical jump onto flat ground. The skatepark will show what kind of sends the sledge is ACTUALLY capable of
6:50 the older 3s 6400mah batteries puff like hell. A few runs in and I wouldn't be able to fit it into the car anymore...😅 the 5000mah on the other hand, I had no puffing issues; the packing or something got a hole in it and the lipo stopped working entirely... yet still no puffing
Must say just from that one crash where both of them hit the posts going the same speed in the same area, that traxxas really toughed it out compared to the exb, if it takes the licking from the skatepark and doesn’t bend the chassis I’d say it deserves the title of the worlds strongest metal chassis rc car
except the sledge hit more center and more towards the top allowed the post to bend a bit more and absorbed some of the the impact that way,as opposed to the exb that hit right the bottom off centre.
Hey KT! You may have to pickup a couple more Traxxas battery pack for the Sledgehammer when your out and about bashing and testing with the gang bro! Like the first run you need to put the pins in the battery holder they supplied for it to lock it closed no issues with the batteries bud! Great unboxing and first run can wait to see more!😉👍📹✔️💯👋👋👋
Not a fan of Traxxas electronics, I can't wait to get a roller/slider on eBay. I'm hoping I can fit a max6 and 4082 1700kv. Looks like there's not much room, nothing a Dremel can fix
It definitely needs thicker center diff fluid. It baloons the crap out of those front tires. I feel it would have more get up and go with thicker fluid
From watching Kev's video for years we all know he will break the sledge. But what we are more interested on is how much abuse it takes before it breaks and on which parts break.
The Sledge really does look great, looks at least as good as the Kraton. The problem for me is the pricing. at $800 before tax, that's way up there. The E-Revo 2.0 is $650, and the Kraton 6S is $600. I could have one of the latter two cars and a battery+charger for the price of the Sledge alone. At $800 you're getting close to the price of the X-Maxx, I'd probably just talk myself up to the X-maxx if i were committed to spending $800+ on something. If they'd come down on the pricing this would be a no-brainer.
This video is epic! Thanks Kev! I think The Sledge will be Kev's new favourite RC car behind the X-Maxx. Only annoying thing about The Sledge is the fact that it only seems to take Traxxas sized cells meaning you can only run certain lipos which is really annoying. But overall, The Sledge looks epic!
Just need some proper tires and a better steering servo and I think it would be pretty much perfect. Looks like they learned from a lot of the mistakes of Kraton and others, and most likely saw the extreme bashing Kevin does and were like, "Let's see if we can make an aluminum chassis 1/8 electric monster truggy that even Kevin Talbot can't bend." I am pretty sure he will still find a way, but I doubt it will be anywhere near as much as the others, and if he can only bend it a negligible amount, then most people wont ever be able to bend it realistically.
I think they put those tires for the control they give you in the air, with the rotating mass. I find my control mid air isn't as good with belted tires.
Cool! The Traxxas seems far more superior than the Arrma. Only thing for me not using it would be the battery restrictions. Definitely it needs to be able to handle bigger batteries. Can’t wait your next bashing video!
How does it seem superior?? If you watch the video when they both crash into the pole. The sludge hit it centered the armma just hit the tire which will brake basically any car.
Can't wait for the next video I wanna see how strong this is see if I should go pre order one now or not so far I am really liking it it's every thing you would hope for the erevo to be and looks like its holding up better then a stock kraton
Looks solid. Can't really compare it to the Kraton EXB because the EXB is whatever you want it to be. With the Sledge you're stuck with the Traxxas electronics. Compare it to the Kraton 6S RTR for a true head-to- head. I wish Traxxas would start making rollers (especially an XMaxx roller). I'm not really interested in paying for their stock electronics.
I still compare all to my very modified T-maxx. 7075 bulkheads, titanium hinge pins, aluminum fuel tank, etc. etc. But I'm liking the Sledge....also my first traxxas was a Sledge hammer.
Man I'm glad you got your hands on one fast the Traxxas actually send it to you man I hope if they did it's about time they send them to you and people really see what it's about
I was hoping that they(traxxas) wont. This way there is a high possibility of a disclaimer signed. I would have preferred his review a month later but bought with his own money.
@2:25 in my RC Time about 2008 it was normal that aluminium Chassis had such strengthening and they had usually a upper deck to were Servo and center Diff were mounted. Never bended one. Hope that the RC Hobby will join the quality side again...
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. The vent holes make it worse as it sucks air through them as they expand. Had he not plugged the holes, he would have blown a tire, 100%. My source is me, whose never blown a tire off a rim again since plugging the vent holes. X-maxx included.
That's not how physics work. But hey, there are people who think that the Earth is flat and that we sail through universe on the back of a giant turtle.
The sledge feels a bit loose. And the tire donut phenomenon is too severe. The high-speed driving performance could not even keep up with the Kraton Peninsula.
All those bends in the aluminum makes it way stronger than just a flat slab of aluminum. That goes for thin sheet metal hold a floppy piece than put a few bends in it and it’s way more ridged
A few years back I had quite a few different RC cars, the Kyosho DRX 1/8 scale nitro Subaru Impreza, still the best nitro car I've ever owned, the traxxas Revo 3.3 nitro which yes was a nice car but the engine was riddled with problems from the get go, and then there was the traxxas slash ultimate edition, and holy crap what a car. No matter what I did to that thing it never broke once even though I had enough spares to build a second car I never had to use one, those things are bomb proof and so much fun I can't even begin to tell you, if you want to reliable and strong and all out fun RC car that is the one to buy. If this traxxas sledge is even half the car the traxxas slash is then it's going to be incredible. Fully waterproof brushless motor and simplicity in itself 👍👍👍👍👍👍
1/8 truggy is the most popular rc class? Since when? I must have missed that memo. It is amazing that traxxas has actually released something that isn't 90% parts from a previous model.
got me an ole sledge yesterday ran about 5 to 10 min in front yard and wow this jank is fast REAL FAST! Still got to run it a few times see how tough it is although I'm not real hard on my cars but I do have fun.
Common Kev! You hardly did anything with it! Taking it way too lite on it. You absolutely beat the K6 EXB the first time out, and it held up great. You hardly drove the Sledge, let alone bashed it! Dude!!!
I remember as a kid having a Traxxas JATO 3.3 and ramping the shit out of it n being impressed at it's capabilities and top speed of 65 mph.seeing this make me want to get a new on bc no matter what age there still fun
Loving all these vids! love the fact you don't sugar coat anything!! you are 100% honest!! would love to bash with ya one day but I'm over here in the states :(
I bought one of these a few weeks ago. On my 3rd outing, it broke at the skate park. M2C chassis should be here tomorrow. Most of the other little pieces are already here. It's fun but getting expensive quickly.
Traxxas provides one of the strongest rc stuff out there. That's why I am a traxxas fan boy. Even Kev couldn't bend the chassis of sledge. Dude, they are amazing than all. 🤩👌😍🤟😎❤😇🤗☺️☠
As someone who grew up constantly destroying and rebuilding his Stampede XL-1 and VXL, the ethos of this truck speaks to me! I'm sold. The only issue I can't deal with is the battery options...
I was going to get one today. But, the shop was closed. Now I second guess if I want to deal with that tyre ballooning. Just minimized it some on my XMaXX. Damn traxxas made them durable though!
Bro kev that thing is sick even the chassis is still straight whatttttttt that’s just madness I would say it totally beats the kraton 6s can’t wait for the skate park
Finally🤙🏼the only Review I really trust. Everybody talks about how tough a car may be, but kevin always Tests the car properly 💪🏼
True
True
Especially since he buys the rig himself and bashes it proper!
You said it right!
Not this time, apparently...

Great start for the sledge. The skateparks are the biggest tests for durability so bring it on!
Hey Kevin and anyone else. Ive had that same problem with a few rc cars. You said about the Kraton motors not supported at the back. I used a rubber pad that you’d normally use to keep your furniture from sliding across a wood floor
Hi can you buy rc airplant
Some additional criticisms given that it's priced at £750/$800:
- anodised parts not colour coordinated (unless you choose the blue body)
- plastic shock caps
- no cooling fan on the motor (Traxxas sell it as an optional extra)
- heavy at 5.77kg (without batteries)
- appears to understeer (not properly remedied by TSM)
- lack of control at high speeds due to ballooning tyres
- same old Traxxas ESC
- motor brace doesn't screw onto other motors like a Hobbywing
- 6061 chassis of 3.2mm thickness
Traxxas wants you just Buy their gear. The batteries, electronics and so on. That motor mount and it's position doesn't give you much room if any for a bigger can for more power!! It's just the Traxxas way!!! 😝😆😆😆👍
I can almost guarantee Traxxas was watching Kev’s channel while doing R&D for the Sledge.
Seriously!!
Agree! I also think that traxxas watched all of Kev’s videos on the Kraton to make the sledge stronger 👌
Any Smart Company Would Be… lol
Plot twist Kevin is on staff in their testing department…
I bet they watch all the major channels and read comments etc. I would.
You have far too much fun on this channel!🎉 I have an old Monster Beatle being a child of the 80's and loving this!
You can also pit body clips in the battery tray on the little holes on top so the battery’s don’t ever fall out
Hello from V&b speed a new rc community channel looking 4 new subscribers stop in say hi thank u ✌️
10:02 The Sledge smokes the pole head on and survives, the kraton just catches the edge and breaks 🤣🤣🤣
“It’s broken, it’s broken. Oh it’s not broken…” 😂 I want one and I want one now! So epic! Great video! 🍻
Traxxas should qoute him on the side of the box!!! :D
I broke my rc truck and it doesn't work anymore. So ya
Kevin if u see this I’ve been watching your videos since u had 1.40m followers and you made me get my first Rc and thank you 👍🏼
That is a really cool new Truggy. Even if Traxxas did essentially make a Kraton. It does look suspiciously like Traxxas did their homework watching this channel to find out the weak points of the Kraton design.
Great work Kev!!
That's why I hate this new release !! BIG SHAME on Traxxas !!!
And considering traxxas filed a law suit against arrma for using similar shock setup as the Revo leading to a stop in sales of a really cool arrma car.
My sledge broke after 10 mins 😢
doing what ? with stock parts ??
@@sf8334
They should release one as a roller, or even better as a kit. I know they won’t, but that’d be cool
When the RC chop shops get a hold of it, that usually happens 😜🤣
If you want to build it as a kit the best way right now is to buy every part of the car.
Seeing how close they made it to the Kraton, they might make a roller version to compete with the EXB
and put hobbywing max8
The only way I'd be interested in one would be as a kit. I don't care for the Traxxas or Spektrum electronics.
Kev is the best rc youtuber of all time. He dose such a good job at editing and does what are always very reliable reviews.😃😃
Dose he? jk
Dose acid?
If it survives the skate park and Stempi I will surly be impressed. Great vid Kevin 👍
Also love that it comes with pins for the battery tray to keep batteries from popping out. That would have been a good feature to point out. Another little addition to detail that they paid attention to.Thanks for the vid. I go by your durability tests. If it holds up to you.... Great content as always Kev!
While I like the motor mount bracing, I am not a fan of being unable to install heatsink and fan on it. Though it does seem to have at least fan mounting holes. Maybe that would be enough.
@theAessaya the motor has fins on it, and the motor cradle mount is already pre drilled to add a fan.
Classic kev lines: TuMblE wUmBle, FOOTAGE, Game over, NEXT LOCATION, aRrmaA tOuGh BaBy!
Was really looking forward to this. Can't wait to see how it handles the skate park.
That sledge is the winner thank you for posting that again. Enjoy that new sledge
So far the X-Maxx has spoiled me :-)
I’ve been waiting for this ever since the sledge was released thankyou so much Kev
10:20 ...This is where all the Kraton owners throw a hex wrench at their computer screens. 😅
Probably worth venting the tyres, will stop them ballooning as much Kev
I hate belted tires it sucks
Probably the coolest onboard footage ive seen on this channel yet (the race near the end)
"we haven't really beaten it too hard"
You just dropped it of a 40 foot cliff at max speed!😂
Big difference between a 40ft drop off onto a smooth surface graded hill, and a 40ft vertical jump onto flat ground.
The skatepark will show what kind of sends the sledge is ACTUALLY capable of
Cliff!?....You need to look up the definition of the word Cliff
More like a 40ft slope/landing ramp lol
Except it carwheeled down it so the whole "slight slope" goes out the window when it violently flips down it same as if it were a cliff
You drop or fall off a cliff, you don't roll or cartwheel down it 😂
That's it I'm pre ordering mine tonight... Such a beast, the aftermarket for this thing is going to be unreal! CANT WAIT!
If it really is as good as they say then it won't require any aftermarket parts?
6:50 the older 3s 6400mah batteries puff like hell. A few runs in and I wouldn't be able to fit it into the car anymore...😅
the 5000mah on the other hand, I had no puffing issues; the packing or something got a hole in it and the lipo stopped working entirely... yet still no puffing
All of my lipos puffed up and I took really good care of them. I since changed to hard covered batteries and they haven't puffed yet.
Haven't watched this channel in awhile, I'm glad you're still going!
FINALLY!!! I was waiting for you to get your hands on this to truly test out the durability 🤘🏾💪🏾
Took my Maxx out yesterday while the weather was nice. Now it’s snowing. First day of spring!!
The pizza cutters that the front wheels turn into make me think the Sledge might benefit from some ear plugs in the center diff instead of the 20 mil.
Nar, the rear is already lively enough, Belted tires would be the go
13:35 That location is beautiful
Must say just from that one crash where both of them hit the posts going the same speed in the same area, that traxxas really toughed it out compared to the exb, if it takes the licking from the skatepark and doesn’t bend the chassis I’d say it deserves the title of the worlds strongest metal chassis rc car
You would have to say truggy because the fire team is very durable and if it only was made like a exb it would probably never brake
yea but it looked like the sledge took it more center mass and the exb took it near the wheel.
except the sledge hit more center and more towards the top allowed the post to bend a bit more and absorbed some of the the impact that way,as opposed to the exb that hit right the bottom off centre.
Yeah the electrics are junk, I will get this sledge as a roller too 👍
5 year old e revo 2.0 no issues ever have 3 acres in Texas run almost daily we have great weather...
Always looking forward to these videos keep up the good work kev!
We all know you’re making Traxxas sweat with that in your hands. Can’t wait to see you give it absolute hell!!
It definitely needs thicker center diff fluid. It baloons the crap out of those front tires. I feel it would have more get up and go with thicker fluid
Pack it full of High Temp Castrol Lithium Bearing grease, bit of a sacrifice on speed but better than waiting weeks for new tyres.
In the past Kev has stuffed the center diffs with silicone earplugs. It works like a charm
Yeah! Does it have center diff?
Says it has 20 million center diff fluid
Everyone right now waiting for the skate park!! The real Talbot test 👍🏻
Great video Kevin, you do such a amazing job, keep it up.
Awesome video as always Kev 😃👍but I would recommend clips on your battery tray before the skatepark 😉
If they'd come down on the pricing this would be a no-brainer.
If i had over £800 i'd love an electric 1:5 scale FG monster truck or 1:6 scale Losi super baja rey 2.0 or a v2 Losi DBXL-E.
Now you need the gas version of the losi DBXL 2.0
As a kid I had one of those tyco car that had two tops so if you flipped it'd be OK. That was my favorite car. This reminded me of that car
Like E Revo. But there are plenty Lipos which will fit. But not all, thats correct. And you will find aftermarket solutions will velcro straps so on
They seem to be getting greedier.
First the battery connectors and now the trays :/
Don't need such a car but HELL is it fun to watch you rip!
Just need some proper tires and a better steering servo and I think it would be pretty much perfect. Looks like they learned from a lot of the mistakes of Kraton and others, and most likely saw the extreme bashing Kevin does and were like, "Let's see if we can make an aluminum chassis 1/8 electric monster truggy that even Kevin Talbot can't bend." I think they put those tires for the control they give you in the air, with the rotating mass. I find my control mid air isn't as good with belted tires.
When you say "A better servo"? What exactly are you referring to? This one makes almost 500oz at 7.4V and has steel gears in it
Its obviously slow, doesnt matter if its 500oz, 1000oz or 1500oz. Its slow.
Cool! The Traxxas seems far more superior than the Arrma. Only thing for me not using it would be the battery restrictions. Definitely it needs
to be able to handle bigger batteries.
Can’t wait your next bashing video!
How does it seem superior?? If you watch the video when they both crash into the pole. The sludge hit it centered the armma just hit the tire which will brake basically any car.
First off ..Arrma are one of the best it is not far superior also not as fast
Can't wait for the next video I wanna see how strong this is see if I should go pre order one now or not so far I am really liking it it's every thing you would hope for the erevo to be and looks like its holding up better then a stock kraton

Traxxas makes some pretty damn good amazing vehicles. That was an awesome video Kev!
Just brilliant kev, great video. Thanks for sharing. John. Yep thinking of buying one, would be my first traxxas...
This might actually be worth the $200 over a kraton if you save on chassis upgrades and bent suspension parts.
We will find out in the next video ! I wasnt expecting video so soon tho
Notice how many times the body didn't come off!
This was the review everyone was waiting for!
I’m thinking of buying the redcat rampage mt, do u think it’s worth it?
I have a rampage V3 and love it. For the money it's been a great truck. Damn massive!
@2:25 in my RC Time about 2008 it was normal that aluminium Chassis had such strengthening and they had usually a upper deck to were Servo and center Diff were mounted.
Never bended one.
Hope that the RC Hobby will join the quality side again...
Your tires are deforming into pizza cutters because you cover the holes. The air has no way of getting in/out and it creates vacuum.
You should get the camera man a OneWheel to get those awesome silky smooth camera shots. This new car took a right beating.ThankQ.TkEZ
The sledge feels a bit loose. And the tire donut phenomenon is too severe. The high-speed driving performance could not even keep up with the Kraton Peninsula.
But all Kevin does is mash the throttle, normal people don't drive like that...
Not just Traxxas but any company that makes rc cars should have Kev test them.
I dont feel this test was as extreme as the one the kratons went thru. Gotta be fair here
The skate park will be the test
Kev, the Race cinematography around 14th minute was awesome. Thanks for your great videos. Keep it up .

All those bends in the aluminum makes it way stronger than just a flat slab of aluminum. That goes for thin sheet metal hold a floppy piece than put a few bends in it and it’s way more ridged
It's still just a stamped body though..
Dude!!!
Dude, you have the best RC reviews on you tube, I don't care what everybody else says.
There needs to be a center diff to stiffen up the front and rear for power because when you wheely, the fronts just revs out
I remember as a kid having a Traxxas JATO 3.3 and ramping the shit out of it n being impressed at it's capabilities and top speed of 65 mph.seeing this make me want to get a new on bc no matter what age there still fun
I wish I enjoyed anything half as much as this man enjoys rc cars.
Kev, do a bash day with all your 1/8 truggies, Traxxas Sledge, Arrma Kraton 6s and Talion included!
So glad I bought one, it's my first big rc car. Things an absolute riot!
i love how you said people tell you not to do it. you can do what ever the hell you like
I’ve seen a few “ reviews “ on RUclips but I’ve been waiting for you to get the sledge as your review is the only one I trust to be honest
The Sledge needs silicone earplugs in the center diff ASAP!
Traxxas: Write that down WRITE THAT DOWN!!!
Traxxas provides one of the strongest rc stuff out there. That's why I am a traxxas fan boy. Even Kev couldn't bend the chassis of sledge. Dude, they are amazing than all. 🤩👌😍🤟😎❤😇🤗☺️☠
Traxxas should make a rc car just for Kev
As someone who grew up constantly destroying and rebuilding his Stampede XL-1 and VXL, the ethos of this truck speaks to me!
I'm sold.
The only issue I can't deal with is the battery options...
Best side by side footage yet with sunset
I was going to get one today. But, the shop was closed. Now I second guess if I want to deal with that tyre ballooning. Just minimized it some on my XMaXX. Damn traxxas made them durable though!
Bro kev that thing is sick even the chassis is still straight whatttttttt that’s just madness I would say it totally beats the kraton 6s can’t wait for the skate park
The new Traxxas Sledgton. Anticipating the skate park durability test.
Thank you for that. Brings back memories of my buddy's and me running our cars and wrecking
Finally Traxxas made a really good basher rc car :D Of course, xmaxx and erevo were good too, but this car is amazing i think!
