Looks like I should have joined the British army lol. When I joined the US army (Mar 2001) and went to basic training our barracks didn't look anything like that lol. They were just big 3 story brick buildings filled with bunk beds. Of course in the US army our basic training is 9 weeks and broken down into three phases (red, white and blue). Red phase is of course the worst because everyone is screaming at you and you are basically running around like a chicken with its head cut off lol. But during basic you aren't allowed to go home or have any days/time off. Once you finish basic you will go and start your MOS training (AIT). My AIT actually was just as bad my basic training in the fact that we were still treated like new recruits and weren't allowed to do anything. I was a MP (military police) and my AIT was another 9 weeks. We did get one weekend pass towards the end of AIT. The best advice and simplest advice I can give someone joining the army (or any military branch) and about to start basic training is to be in great shape and to have thick skin. Just keep your mouth shut and do what you are told as fast as possible. The worst thing that you can do is stick out to the Drill Instructors. I ended up spending 10 years in the army and doing 2 tours in Iraq and one in Afganistan. Another tip is that you can make your time in the army as good or bad as you want. If you have the right attitude/think skin, then you will enjoy your time in the army. If you have a piss poor attitude and have a big mouth, then your time in the army isn't going to really miserable.

Great video. When I joined the U.S. Navy the didn't give a damn about who we were. The shaped us into U.S. Navy sailors over 8 weeks and who we were was gone. A very different approach than today's training environment.
This was so helpful, I’m female and 13, at the moment and in the Army Cadet Force (I get my uniform in 4 weeks. I plan to stay and fight for the country 💪
I'm sure you'll love it. My cousin is 15 and in the army cadets. He's signing up to the army the very day he's old enough to. I'm also signing up next year once my fitness is on track. So glad they've opened up more of their roles to us woman now :)
Great videos man got me and 3 friends we all from South Africa about to join the British army in the new year and we don't what to expect. Your videos have helped a lot
Currently trying to get myself more in shape for the army. Really excited to get to selection but also nervous af if I’m honest. Did about 2.8km in 20 mins jogging yesterday. Was doing cardio intervals to warm myself up. At the time was on a phone call with a fellow friend and soldier. I realised that the call helped me keep track of each minute. He was really pushing me and whilst I feel like I can certainly do better, I’m trying to just ease myself into it rather than jump in the deep end. The more I work out, the better I will get, right?
I served with the british airforce cadets from early 2016 to mid 2018. I’m guessing it’s totally nothing compared to the armed forces. Thankyou for your service 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Lee Thomson I was at glencorse for my selection, the staff are all down to earth decent and they've scrapped the ice breaker and made it a 'know your partner' where you talk about someone your sat next to. Be prepared for being sat in the medical room for about 5 hours, there is a tv in there all you have to do is ask. The PFA route is not bad it's really flat. Good luck mate.
Kegger i went on a royal regiment of scotland insight couree stayed at redford barracks for 3 days guys there where good to talk to we done the run 4 laps round the main building and they took us down to catterick the next day seen all the places were we'd do training the accomodation lunch hall gym etc and on the last day they took us to glencorse got to speak to a few guys from two scots (battallion i want to join) was amazing and yeah spoke to the instructors there too and some of the medical staff still speaking to the guys i was with on that trip 3 pass selection hopefully mine is soon cant wait to start catterick! thanks for the comment too

No Name That’s fair enough mate, i don’t understand why they do. If you look throughout history what ‘Britain’ has done its remarkable. Individually none of us are anything but as one we are the second strongest country in Europe
If I could sign up for the army again I would. I signed up for RMP regulars back in 2014 but had to withdraw my application because I ended up in hospital with suspected crohns disease. I work for the civilian police now but it's just not the same as what RMP would have been.
I’m also Civi police for the Met mate and I’ve spoke to some ex army colleagues and apparently RMP is a MASSIVE step down for us. I’m still thinking of joining as an infantryman but moving to close protection I just haven’t decided yet. Still figuring out if Civi police is for me.

I wanna join too but i got a bit of eczema inside my elbows, only time it ever pissed me off is when i saw it might prevent me from joining.
Mate, great video! I served in the engineers for 6 years, left for 4 and am looking to rejoin at 30 years old. Even with my past experience it was good to get a refresh! Mint vid 👌👊
Glad for him to serve his country this was actually similar to my training in the US air force I am a Airman so not all of it was the same
Great video.
So glad they've opened up more of their roles to us woman now :)
hey I'm in the same situation, good luck!
Did you join?
@@mrbritannia3833wow this is a throwback, im 17 now and unfortunately unable to join after being diagnosed with ptsd and some bad joint genetics.
Great videos man got me and 3 friends we all from South Africa about to join the British army in the new year and we don't what to expect. Your videos have helped a lot
Are you in the army now?
Currently trying to get myself more in shape for the army. Really excited to get to selection but also nervous af if I’m honest.
Did about 2.8km in 20 mins jogging yesterday. Was doing cardio intervals to warm myself up. At the time was on a phone call with a fellow friend and soldier. I realised that the call helped me keep track of each minute. He was really pushing me and whilst I feel like I can certainly do better, I’m trying to just ease myself into it rather than jump in the deep end. The more I work out, the better I will get, right?
right
Hows it going?
I cant wait to join. I'm currently 14 and will go into harrogate after year 11 to start my phase 1 training for infantry.
Great Video! i go down pirbright end of august for my phase 1! absolutely can not wait!
good luck mate
Really insightful so thank you! 👍🏻 Stay safe Liam and thank you for guarding us civis.
Hoping to join asap just gotta sort my life out!
Great video though pal
I served with the british airforce cadets from early 2016 to mid 2018. I’m guessing it’s totally nothing compared to the armed forces. Thankyou for your service 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
What do you think the likelihood is that British troops could be deployed abroad in the near future?
Vey possible, Not sure where though mate
Ian Brown 😂
Ian Brown so true Britain and us is so up their ass
Very good video and great insight to what it would be like joining as a soldier. I have been wanting to join for nearly 5 years now and you sir have almost made my mind up.
I currently work for a bank and have done for 4 years now (I'm 22) this video made me want to join more then ever.
You should be very proud of what you have achieved. Hopefully I can do the same.
NayTheHorsee did u join :/
@@zach4936 I guess not as he did not reply :/
Legend lad👍 didn’t know what to expect till I watched this. Can’t wait to get away now.
Great channel definitely subscribing, so many guys like nick bare, kyle gott, etc. doing videos like this about the us military but theres been very few resources like this for the british army, great resource to have thanks for making this! Video about the recruitment process would be brilliant if you could do one aswel, cheers!
Appreciate that mate! I plan on doing a recruitment video soon, make sure you watch out for it
Have the notifications turned on I'll keep an eye out! Plan on going for it in the new year probably will be handy to see! cheers again!
Are you intending making the ''green'' your career?
thats the plan, don't see the point of guys only signing on for the four years and leaving it then
Thanks for this video even more insight to the army life. After my brother signed up it’s made me want to join but in a different job, I want to be a royal marine commando. Lucking forward to it and can’t wait to be part of such an amazing lifestyle ❤️ so much respect 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for this! I've applied and waiting on my two day assessment date which I'm honestly shitting myself for, but this has really helped! thank you :)
Did you end up joining g
@@Glen38 I didn’t, I broke my ankle and had to get a metal plate, then two days later I got a call to go for my assessment
@@BeckyDixon17 oh well hopfully yoir ankle is OK now, what do you work as now
Great video Liam, I have my Army briefing next week watching this video has given me a insight of what to expect.
Good to see a video that's not 9 years old.
Respect from 🇮🇪. Our nations had a very bad start but at least the Irish army and the British army are training together and serving overseas together in places like Mali and previously in Kosvo, Bosnia, afghan and other countries
6:12 that music transition though
You sound proper sound buddy. Thanks for your service
LOVE FROM🇳🇵 NEPAL.. HERE NEW SUBSCRIBER
Love back from us in Britain some of our finest men come from Nepal.
@@gemmatindall haha..I know mate..they are called Gurkhas
@@roshangurung8045 yeah that's right heard some interesting tales about Gurkhas in combat.
@@gemmatindall haha..cheers mate
.have a nice weekend
Respect thanks for the video Liam 🏴🇬🇧
Thanks for this 🙏🏻
No problem bro, hope you found it useful.
Really helpful mate. Thanks a lot. Hope you're still enjoying it!
ive sent my medical forms to the gp just waiting on them sending them and then my selection date for glencorse the hopefully starting catterick in the next few months!! cant wait to start i know its gonna be hard but it will be good too!
Lee Thomson good luck mate, if you need any help just message me
Brown Label Nutrition cheers im just nervous about going to glencorse dont want to fuck anything up
Its weird in the beginning, you'll get used to it. good luck mate
Kegger i went on a royal regiment of scotland insight couree stayed at redford barracks for 3 days guys there where good to talk to we done the run 4 laps round the main building and they took us down to catterick the next day seen all the places were we'd do training the accomodation lunch hall gym etc and on the last day they took us to glencorse got to speak to a few guys from two scots (battallion i want to join) was amazing and yeah spoke to the instructors there too and some of the medical staff still speaking to the guys i was with on that trip 3 pass selection hopefully mine is soon cant wait to start catterick! thanks for the comment too
Joining myself in 2 months, thanks for the advice.
good video. you should also do a video on what to bring to basic training.
Thats a good idea, will do
Please could you consider doing a video explaining the treatment of soldiers in basic training such as locker inspections and that? Cheers. Love the videos
im having trouble shaping/moulding my beret. i would love to see a video on how to do it properly (s/wales army cadets)
stay tuned
i tried shaping mine and let me tell you. i didnt have a great time. so good luck. and Rip to ur beret.
Enjoyed listening to your perspective of basic. You're doing a terrific job!
please do more army videos
More on the way soon!
I'm a 14 year old who's desire is to join the royal Welsh regiment as the role of an infantry soldier. I'm not a cadet but I am attending a military preparation school Called mpct. Your videos have been extremely helpful and have made my desire even stronger to join the British army.
How’s it going lad?
My dad was in the army during the 90s and just when he finished. Someone stole his beret
Bastards
Thanks Liam,, im just finishing my selection (having to go back to finish a few things), these vid's are very helpful!
Britain are strong together🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴(couldn’t find Northern Ireland)
True that, I’m honestly moving to England if we ever gain independence (I’m Scottish)
No Name That’s fair enough mate, i don’t understand why they do. If you look throughout history what ‘Britain’ has done its remarkable. Individually none of us are anything but as one we are the second strongest country in Europe
I'm thinking of joining the army so this is so helpful thanks bro .
I'm a CCF cadet I'm the United Kingdom, I represent the Royal Signal Corps. I have always loved helping people. In the next year or two I'll hopefully be joining the BA, then the Royal Medical Corps
This helped me a lot! I'm going for my basic soon, then I'm off to train for the Paras! Thanks, helped me a lot! :)
glad it helped mate, good luck
cheers dude
Dobblo I'm going paras as well mate, my trainings in September, you going??
T Wats I would be joining you mate, if it wasn't for a bloody Prescription 2 years ago. Good luck mate, remember mind over matter.
Dobblo how old are you? If you're older than 18 you won't be doing basic.
thanks so much! I have been meaning to become apart of the army for a while now, as my family have had a military history so this has helped me understand quite alot
11:56, you shoot the exact same weapons (look like the L98's anyhow) in army cadets. With the BFA's (yellow tings) and everything
Cadets shoot the L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle, Regulars mostly use the L85A2/L85A3 depending on the role or regiment I believe
Just been for my AB and have to hand the medical form to my doctors. cant wait! thanks for your help on your videos. ill be sure to leave questions i have on your twitter :) Keep it up!
the c drills are my schools ‘core values’
44 push ups... Could do 50 when I was 18, I'm now 31 and struggled to do 25. Thinking about joining, I'm tad overweight but I can lose it, I Lost 16kg few years ago going gym and dieting but put most back on.
go for it mate
They take anyone these days mate and youll get fit in training
