It’s comforting to hear someone else had the same experience as me. I recently just got out too and leaving was the best decision I ever made, I’m so much happier now! Good luck
This was really interesting! I really appreciate how open and honest you are about your experience. It will help a lot of people considering joining! I’m sorry that it didn’t go as you’d hoped, but I think you are destined for something else. One door closes and another one opens. Very excited to follow you on your journey! ⭐️
Seen this a million times during my 24 years (RLC) where good and able soldiers, who were keen and offered a lot like yourself Zoe, were overlooked for no other reason than a senior rank being unwilling to make a decision or were themselves being micro-managed. Theres also a lot of box ticking going on and as the seniors have one eye on their own promotion they will never rock the boat and take risks for the good of their troops. Also you make a good point about Corps soldiers being posted away from a unit and losing a bond. I really used to notice that after a Tour when people got promoted and posted etc. All of a sudden the people who you spent 6+ months with in dodgy situations were gone and you might never see them again. All the best for the future.
You’re my new comfort getting ready RUclipsr to watch!! 💖💖Loved hearing about the army, I’m sad it didn’t go as planned, you have so much potential, it’s a real shame they didn’t truly see it. Everything happens for a reason, your future holds different plans! Xx
You've been really fair on your POV. I left PM troop just as you joined, i really thought you would fly you had/have so much potential so am genuinely shocked to hear you had to fight for promotion. I'm really sorry to hear you experienced struggles, it really isn't spoken about enough. Marketing/ social media portrays something the army isnt for most women. All the best in your future x
Thanks for doing this video and telling it how it is - had a very similar experience with the RAF. Loved the job and don't regret my time in uniform, but ending up in a unit where your 'face doesn't fit', bad management and poorly handled SJARs killed the passion and PVR'd. There is life after the uniform - the RAF helped get me into a great civvy career and lucky to have a house, marriage and beautiful daughter because of it. Being in the air force was living the dream in both senses of the phrase - haven't ruled out going back thinking of the good times but the downsides do leave a bad taste that affect things like your temperament, confidence and self-esteem and still recovering even today. You put to words what many who served feel but keep to ourselves so kudos for having the bravery to speak up 👍
I love how honest you are. My husband is a chef in the Army and some stories he tells me are crazy. There is definitely a lot we don’t know about. Great video and good luck in your new adventure x x
Zoe.. l my life long dream has been to join the army but the system has also done me over and my boyfriend has experienced it pretty badly as well. You’ve done the right thing for you and know you’re helping thousands with your brilliant videos ❤️
I found this video super honest and interesting-thanks Zoe. Sometimes things don't work out as you hope but better things are to come. Good luck with whatever comes next for you. Xxxx
I was born into army life, now married into it! Its certainly a lifestyle and I wouldn't change it for the high and lows. Having your own projects and goals helps when they go away and sound like you certainly have that 🙌 xx
My parents were in the army and I come from a huge army family… it definitely is a lifestyle! I couldn’t see myself in there though- best of luck for the future go smash it 🎉❤
I’m so tempted on joining as I find there’s nothing for me elsewhere and it’s something I’m interested in! This is such an interesting and helpful video 😘
So so interesting, yes my husband had a very unfortunate experience and the passion got beaten out pretty quick and he left, though it’s so hard to leave ! I put this comment on before hearing where you went his bad experience was catterick too... not by any means all but some definitely ended his passion and career decision changed fast
Love your channel ❤ I hope Danny has a good and safe 6 months away, hopefully it flys by for you both and the wedding prep keeps you busy 😊 My partner of 7 years decide to join the army 2 years ago, it’s so hard when they leave but you really learn to cherish your time together when they’re home ☺️Also congratulations on becoming an auntie🎉 x
I grew up round the army in Germany. And met my partner out there. I heard a lot about Cattrick who are still there. They all preferred Germany maybe your journey would have been different in Germany everyone loved it out there, the job and lifestyle. We had 1 Med out there. That’s king time as well to stay a private so sad that you had that experience. Infantry i agree would have been perfect for you as well. Best of luck for the future x
This is literally the same experience as my girlfriend! She joined the artillery and wanted to transfer to medics but every obstacle was put in her way until she signed off
My husband is in the grenadiers! Coming up to 10 years now. The time away is definitely hard but it Is amazing when they come back. Good luck on your future endeavours🤍
My partner has just left the army after 10 years , he was also based in catterick but different reg. honestly , the alarm bells ringing in my head from everything you’ve said is just sooo similar to what he experienced. He grew so disillusioned with it , and again due to s jars being terrible because of numerous reasons it stopped him promoting. Along with being a glorified skivvy - going in one evening to literally count and organise pens/pencils 😭. The seniors above him couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery let alone a squadron 🙃. 👏 for the honesty of this vid Zoe!! Life experiences were great but that’s about it … Now living happily down in Kent on my families farm, and 6 months later he’s not missing the army one bit!
This was so insightful, my dad was in the army and I could never get my head around what he would be doing if not on tour😅… now my mum telling me he would just watch films on camp sounds realistic 😂 good luck with your future endeavours, would love to see more about nutrition x🤍
This was really insightful. I'm an army wife, my husband was overlooked for a long time like you for promotion, in the end he did Sandhurst as a private, it's been such a hard process for him at times. Bigger and better things are on the way for you! 🥰
Thank you 😊 he's now 7 years as an officer, he works really hard to promote those who deserve it as he knows all too well what it feels like not to. His face obviously didn't fit in his first unit and they "lost" his application for commission for 3 years. Mad how badly it's run. Really enjoy your videos and looking forward to seeing you grow on here xxx
Never usually comment on videos but have to tell you how much I love your channel! I have just paused my application to Sandhurst after being unsuccessful at my first main board attempt but nevermind can always go back! Love your content so so much good luck with your next career❤❤
Met my hubby at catterick 34 years ago when we were both on our upgrading - royal signals. Great memories. Good luck Zoe in civvy street. Love your channel x
I have just left the RAF also! Had such bad luck with injury during my basic training it was awful so I understand the not so lucky side😂I love videos like this feel like I can relate. Have you ever considered PTI in the RAF, it’s a specific trade you can enter without a certain rank xx
Also that’s mad that you have the RFT, we only had the normal fitness test inside!😭that’s probably why I got injured on exercise with the weight and tabbing 😂😂xx
I have Asthma so In couldn't join I South Africa, I did not know what implications joining would have known my faith, but defending our country is not evil. As long as you're not a criminal. Im definitely not physically fit. I eat whatever and walk occasionally.
It's so sad that it's still the culture My dad's face didn't fit and stayed a cpl in the ramc for 22 yrs.... We moved around every few years, i settled in Aldershot still 👍🎉
Interesting. I was desperate to join when younger but my dad died suddenly in difficult circumstances and I decided to go to university instead. I was shocked to see that I can still join certain reservist roles at my age, but I have adult-onset asthma now. I wanted to join the Royal Physical Training Corps. I've had similar experiences to you in other walks of life though, very frustrating.
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but in general the army is not something I’ve had a special interest in (in South Africa) but I found this super interesting. Apparently our army has a requirement for there to be at least one woman per regimen for (direct quote from someone I interviewed) “level headed thinking under pressure” 😂
I left in 2006 and was also in a corps, I didn't mind the getting posting side of things as got to see lots of places, Germany was my favourite place but now that has all gone. I'm glad I'm not in now being stuck in the UK the whole time. Sorry to hear you didn't promote, it's a shame they couldn't get your boss at the gym to write your CR instead of your troop sgt and troopy who don't see how you perform, it would have been best for you to spend a couple of years at your sqn and prove yourself on exercise etc, promote and then go and work in the gym. Hearing you talk about outside areas reminded me of walking around with a bin bag and broom and shovel on a Monday morning lol. Good luck for the future 👍
As a Civi. My now ex is in the navy. He was appointed 4 months on 3 home. (Give or take depending on where based) but definitely away more than home. And contact can be difficult out in the gulf and taking him to fly out to Bahrain etc. One thing I will say if you have a partner who is in the forces you NEED to trust. Without trust it cannot work. It was hard at first. A complete shock to the system as we lived together. He had my full trust and I put up with the last minute life style for 6 years. He is basically an alcoholic. And decided to have an affair with one of very few women appointed. Literally got a text saying all the years are over. I had to leave our house- even though he hadnt re signed our tennancy only I did. I still love him which is stupid. But you need to know there is mutual trust or nothing will ever work. And I take my hat off for all the other couples who live this lifestyle xx
Just seen this- im sorry he did this to you. You deserve better. But such is life!- we never know how long anyone are in our lives and if they are a blessing or a lesson. I hope time has healed your broken heart. X
Great video, I've just left after 8 years. The majority of seniors ruined it for me, I found they were in those positions due to their arse licking and not actually being competent in their trade role, this system in general just promotes terrible leaders. Plus the whole officer and soldier system is completely outdated and those officers should actually be competent and not just posh. Much happier now I'm out, I will say that the army has done wonders for my CV and I got a job straight away. Cheers
You have just inspired me to tell you my story as it is pretty similar to yours although I joined a lot earlier than you and served 11 1/2 years before they sickened me so I left.
Hey Zoe good chat for this video and seems things didn’t turn out as you would have liked with the Army I would say after listening Join the reserves Took me 10 years after leaving the regular Army (13 years) to give the reserves a go and I found it great You only have commit to the time and stuff you want to do in the reserves, volunteer for stuff you want to do. Many think that they just can’t commit to the time required 27 days a year. However if you don’t do that time it’s no big issue you just don’t qualify for a bonus. If it’s not for you then leave but don’t be worried and thinking cos the regular army didn’t work out you won’t like the reserves either. Two totally different things Good luck
It’s certainly not for everyone. Uniformed life can be challenging. Simples. I left over 7 years ago now and haven’t looked back since. Good luck in civvy street. Real life will begin now for you. Certa Cito 👍🏾
The candle in the background so close to the other fragrance diffuser makes me anxious. Maybe move them further away, I'd imagine the one with sticks is flammable and probably getting hot from being near to the flame. Not nitpicking or criticising! Just really made me nervous xx
Hi Zoe, this was so useful I’m going through my assessments now and awaiting my dates for basics 🤞 I’m also hoping to become CMT, so this was really useful! Thank you for all this information really appreciated 💕💕
I have left the army after 21years and tbh after listening to you're video and you're experience it makes me feel like you are holding back in telling the whole truth about you're experience in the British army like you feel very afraid incase you say the wrong thing! Which is understandable! My experience in the Irish army I will try keep it short I was a 3* private female chef in the army! You are degraded in the army exatly like what you z trying to fill in you're days like basically been a cleaner!!!! Picking up cigarette butt's even when you don't smoke cleaning men's toilets even when you don't use them etc I could write a book on it. if you are not liked by you're "superiors" BULLIES!!! If you are not in the little "clicks" you will not win or get to where you want to be in the army! For me I struggled to get to my 21yrs in the army to get my pension but I got there in the end! But if I was to give any advice to any young people out there now or my own sons/daughters it would be to stay as far away and don't even consider joining the army! The army now is NOT like wat it was 21 years ago when I joined when everybody was friends and like family and they were my Galway days which was my best days in the army😁
Thanks for giving us the tips from there am joshua i submitted my online army application am from kenya and my country its among the commonwealth but in few day they sent to me a letter in my dashboard saying my application as been unsuccessful since they are not taking commonwealth until further notice please help me to understand. Can still do checking or can reapply
Your a cool cat zoe, you should speak to the the CO of PT core and RSM and explain I bet your get a slot on the PT Core course but your still young so get amongst it X
I was in pirbright with you back in late 2017 i went with engineers i got out last year and the best years is the first couple pf years then it died down so i got out in civvy street and joined the reserves instead
Promotion doesn't come through time served, it's takes around 4 years meanwhile you have to take your upgrading qualifications, this is why you didn't come of the board because your trade was a Combat medic, its pretty unfair to grade you higher amongst your peers. I transferred from the infantry as a substantive full screw acting troop Sgt, to the Supply Controller trade, I effectively had to start from the very start of the trade and get qualified as a grade 1 Tom, I did keep my rank however it took 4 years before I got promoted to Sgt, I had to do roughly 10 courses involving lots of studying before even being considered for promotion, it's mentally tough, it's a pain but perseverance does payoff.
Do you have any opinions about the historic controversy of the British army? I.e. Iraq, Ireland? Would be interesting to hear your view as you were in the army x
Such a relatable video for me! I’ve just left the Royal Navy after 4 years! I was sold the dream and stayed in Plymouth for my entire career! It wasn’t meant to be but good luck for your future endeavours!!!🫶🏻🫶🏻
My mate was a meteorology rating always said he was bored out his mind in Plymouth. He preferred Yeovil but eventually left he was bored of it hardly ever deployed.
I'm based in Catterick (not 5 MED) but from what I've heard 5 MED is a bit of a shambles. I think with the army you either get lucky or really unlucky with CoC etc. Such a shame you've had not a great experience but best of luck with your future endeavours! :)
Reserves x….you will have the experience you want x best bits of both worlds x……wounded soldiers need you x…. But until they do you can come and go x…..sounds good doesn’t it?……alll the good things and not having to worry about any of the bad things that you experienced?….get your boots back on soldier!❤
Did anyone else get excited? Because this girl just makes my evenings better with wholesome chats ❤️

Hey Zoe good chat for this video and seems things didn’t turn out as you would have liked with the Army
I would say after listening Join the reserves
Took me 10 years after leaving the regular Army (13 years) to give the reserves a go and I found it great
You only have commit to the time and stuff you want to do in the reserves, volunteer for stuff you want to do.
It’s so much more different to the regular Army
Your skills as a medic and your PT background will be so much of a benefit to the reserve unit.
Many think that they just can’t commit to the time required 27 days a year.
However if you don’t do that time it’s no big issue you just don’t qualify for a bonus. No big thing really
There is a lot in your chat that I feel you would enjoy as a reservist nothing to loose signing up to be a reservist and taking it one step at a time.
Really likes this video! Very informative and real😃even I could tell whilst at basic training it wasn't for me and left after 8 weeks 😩
Can you leave after basic training?
Resonate so much with everything you have said!

Hope you’re doing well!

The Forces are like the curates egg!Good in parts!5 year's RAF 1966-71.
How much litter was dropped on the base to warrant daily litter picks? X
Do you have any opinions about the historic controversy of the British army? I.e. Iraq, Ireland? Would be interesting to hear your view as you were in the army x

Me from India I am 43 years old how can I join British reserve forces
👀🤣 hahah thank you best of luck with you too! X
RFT - Role Fitness Test! :)
