Krishna Thapa- We saw the Gurkha soldiers near the barracks in Church Crookham (Quetta park) and in Fleet in the 90's. Every single Gurkha wore an immaculate green jacket, pressed trousers, perfectly polished shoes buttons buckles etc.. well groomed hair, and full attention given to every detail of their appearance when they left the barracks. They were always polite and respectful, every single one of them were the most well presented respectful soldiers I have ever seen (most certainly when compared to the British ones down the road in Aldershot over that decade!) Great interview, very interesting.
5:38 Hey Krishna! Hi from Folkestone. You've probably run past me when I looked after the canal you used to use to fly that bloody Chinook down to the firing ranges. That thing, below tree height, following the canal, fuck me it made me jump! Keep safe man & I'm always grateful that Ayo Gorkhali! 😎☮️

Without a doubt what Krishna has achieved and done in life is simply mind bending. I am disgusted by how the UK government continues to treat Gurkhas as second class citizens. As American when I was with the 3/75 we went to Belize and served along side and trained with the 4th Princess Ghurkas. Patrolling the border with Guatemala. Had 5 fire fights with the Guats. None of us were hit. Later in life, served along side the 7th Duke of Edinburgh Ghurkas. That was a fun year! They are true professionals. Totally warriors, ancient warriors. They are violent when it comes to war. I was happy they were on our side. Great sense of humor and genuine guys.
Krishna is such a warm spiritual person and its lovely seeing his connection and love of the environment and people around him. The Gurkha regiment is one of the finest regiments the British Army has, they should be respected and honoured by this country's government equal pay, pension and rights. Thanking all the Nepalese (Gurkhas) which have served this county, Thank you
Absolutely, you are so very right. Joanna Lumley many years ago protested very loudly on behalf of the Ghurkas for exactly that. Equal pay and Pension rights. These men are well respected by other Armies everywhere. Only not by the Boffins in Whitehall. Cheers from Oz. 😮 🦘
Had the pleasure of meeting a few ghurkas over the years very very capable soldiers and very polite and humble people you wouldn want to get on the wrong side of.

What a lovely interview. I met some Gurkhas when I went with my dad to a WW1 battlefield tour. We were in Ypres for the two minute silence and a coach of old Gurkhas turned up, they were immaculately turned out, very proud and polite men. When it was over and time to leave the guy in charge just put his hand on his head and all the old Gurkhas politely said goodbye and walked to their coach, it was such a pleasure to meet and see them, thanks for the interview.
@@ForceRadioHQ Placing your hand flat on your head is British army sign language for 'on me' or come to me. These older Gurkha gentlemen responded like old cavalry horses do to a bugle.
Big Phil you done it again. Another brilliant guest. A Gurkha Sas guy. That's double amazing achievement right there. The way the Gurkhas have been treated by our government is a crime. These soldiers are brilliant for our services. 🙏
Stop repeating propaganda you read. The Gurkhas contract was excellent and their claim of discrimination was rejected by the European Court, it was just a money grab.
@@snowflakemelter1172what shit are you talking about . I am not repeating anything. I am only going by what i observed in the papers, tv, and on the streets. You would have came to the same conclusion as me if you did.🙏
I have never heard a Gurkha talk at length like this. I rarely watch anything or do anything for more than 15 minutes at a time, but I'm 40 minutes in and absolutely captivated by this gentleman's stories.
I had the honour of serving on the same barracks as the ghurkas in Aldershot years ago and even call some friends they are polite respectful and have the most courage I love them respect to all of you ghurkas who serve alongside us every day and godbless you all
Always in shirt, tie and blazer in the ‘shot. Then we went to the GT in our dessies, jeans, maroon T shirts and bomber jackets for some craphat bashing😂😂😂😂😂😂1970 - 1993!
Gurkhas are known to be as fearless in combat as they are good natured in daily life. To this day, they remain renowned for their loyalty, professionalism and bravery.
I loved working with the Gurkhas, they never ever got messed with in Chatham, very smart and tough soldiers, every single one of them !! They are a credit to our nation and Nepal !!
the gurkhas originally belonged to the british indian army....they were so good that the brits decided to take them and recruit gorkha personnel after the indian independence...india originally had 16 gorkha regiments...out of which 8 were taken as her majestys gorkhas and the remainder was affiliated to the indian army.
Gurkhas never ever belonged to India . Gurkha regiment was started by Britishers in British India. Britishers were very impressed by bravery shown by gurkhas in Nepal British war. And they were even more impressed by their humility, honesty when they started recruiting Nepali gurkha@@bibaswanmukherjee7237
A humble and beautiful soldier. This was an encouraging podcast. My father Terry Jickells was A Sq 2 Troop for 22 years - my point is he always rated the Gurkha - had a lot of respect for them. He'd certainly welcome this dude into the Squadron what with his fantastic mind set. Someone you can like and work with for sure. Thanks Phil - a great GurkhaSAS guy.
I watched a tv show where a young guy had to carry his father miles across a mountain every week. He carried him in a basket with the strap across his forehead. When the interviewer asked "Isnt he heavy" his reply was along the lines of "He is my father, how can he he heavy?" He looked genuinely puzzled by the question. This shows you the mindset that makes a Gurkha. Their bravery is second to none because they see life differently.
I have huge respect and admiration for the Gurkhas but the way they are treated by every UK government is beyond disgraceful and I would stand with these men long before any politician
Their campaign was rejected by the European Court, It was BS to fool the gullible British public into giving them more money on a contract that was already good for them as Nepalis, they were never UK citizens . By the way the hunger strikes were faked and done in shifts.
In what way exactly are they mistreated by the UK government - equality of pay, pensions and conditions to UK soldiers, perhaps? If so, have you considered the possibility that equality in all forms would make the continuance of British Gurkha recruitment unsupportable on military or financial grounds? After all, why go to all the extra expense of maintaining facilities in Nepal and dealing with distinct cultural and language issues if all other things are equal?
One thing I would never resent paying my taxes for is supporting retired Gurkhas, and keeping the regiment going. Proud, admirable people: they, and their families, should get automatic citizenship.
Im Ex 4 PWRR & have the utmost respect for all the Gurkhas i worked with whilst i was in ,they are always polite , humble ,hard working & never moaned about a single thing in any adverse situation, Cant say enough good things about the quality of these men. This interview really was inspiring , keep up the excellent work Phil.
This is how we will raise our kids. How about you? It's not a lot to keep your mouth shut. Raise them with expectations. Don't let them soft. If you do then their losses will be on your hands. So I guess you can't be weak either. God bless you and make your stronger than your are
Current 4PWRR and I second that. Humble and courteous people, no nonsense and tough for when it matters but with a warm smile for their brothers and sisters in arms. 👌🏻

Huge Respect for Gurkha Soldiers great guys very proud tough great sense of humour ! worked several times early 80's Hong Kong Bruenei and NZ Afghan, was a great honour love this pod cast.
Very inspiring interview. Nothing seems impossible listening to this guy over come every hurdle in his way. Least not to say his time in SAS on missions. He didn't dive into that much but one can only imagine the missions.
I have nothing but the highest respect. Where to start.. there are many ex gurka ( apologies if i spelled it wrong ) families in Colchester where i live. , generosity, kindness.. ❤ Great food and welcome in the 'Brittania' . Fantastic insight..
Both my mother and father have served with the Gurkhas and i had the pleasure of their torment on an exercise. Without doubt the most loyal, honourable and best soldiers we have ever met. Thank you for your commitment to the British Army and the UK. I pray we show you the same respect.
Used to help recruit the boys back in Nepal. Central Selection is no joke, and just to make it through Regional is an achievement in itself. The years I was there there were upwards of 16,000 applications for 150 spots. When the pukka hill boys turn up and you see the Goldstar trainers on you know it's on.
My dad was a Grenadier. Did some training exercises against the SAS. He said they were absolutely different class. He always spoke highly of the Ghurkas as well. Wouldn’t hear a bad word said about any of them. He really respected them. Thankyou both for your service. Thanking our troops/ex troops is something that we as a nation don’t do enough. It’s one thing the Americans have got right 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 💜👊
Wow, we are so lucky to have guys like this in the British Army. in the 80's went through my Jungle Warfare instructors course buddied up with a superb Gurkha.
I have the up most respect for this man. It must have been so difficult for him but he pushed on. Hats of to you sir well done.😊and thank u both for your service and this interview 😊regards to u both❤❤😊
The best soldiers you could want. Should be more of these lads and also I would be honoured to live next door to these lads, they are welcome anywhere and are as British as cricket. Respect
My cousin was involved with Gurkha selections back in the 70s, I still recall being in awe as a young boy whenever I got to see him on leave. Massive respect to you both, and thank you for your service! 🙏🙏
Yet again Phil you've knocked it out the park with another cracking episode. I could listen to these all day long mate. My old man worked with the Gurkha's in Burneo back in the 60s.He always said they were the best soldiers he ever worked along side and had the upmost respect for them. What a humble individual this man is Disgraceful how the government treat these men once they complete there service, they should be giving the choice to stay here & be giving a house etc, they deserve it for what they do/have done for the British government. Things need to change immediately.
@leewarnes1373 you are absolutely spot on instead the Government give’s these so called refugees ( young males of fighting age ) everything they want and it’s still not good enough for them, absolutely disgusting how the west has it all so arse backwards 😡 hopefully things will change and get better 👍🏻🇦🇺
Nepal wants them back and is part of the treaty, that is the agreement. It's unfortunate in a way but I also understand Nepal wanting these incredible men back at home at the end of their service,as they're natural leaders and philosophical warriors. They add to the society and are valuable citizens and men. From a rational and non-emotional standpoint it makes perfect sense.
@billwillson5361 Well maybe Nepal does want them back but what is waiting for them there? A good job or poverty? After service for 5 years I think it would be proper to ask the individual soldier what they want. Nepal has already benefitted by way of the salaries being sent home to Nepal. These brave men have earned the right to be offered citizenship if they want it. Pensions should be automatic no questions asked. Otherwise it is just usury.
I have nothing but respect, admiration and hero worship for the Gurkhas.. their dedication, mentality and honour is truly awesome. I’m so glad we have them in the British army. SAS and Gurkhas for me are the best in the world.
The British soldier, learns determination, professionalism, and the resolve to just crack on and get the job done. Gurkha's are born to the world with these qualities already installed. Nepalis are amazing people, make stunning soldiers, and I'm proud to have worked with them. Kris is a legend 👍
What a fantastic guy, and a brilliant interview, thanks to both of you. I first met Gurkhas during the firemans' strike in 1977. The men of Hereford in 1982, as they crossed decked to my ship before going forward onto dry land. Later on we were in the vicinity when a Sea King went down after a bird strike, a black day for everyone involved, but we did our best for them, but it wasn't enough and it still haunts me. God bless those brave men, and thanks to you all for having the courage to go out and do dark deeds so that we may sleep safely in our beds.
I'm from PNG in the South Pacific. I've heard of the gurkhas, men from Nepal recruited into and serving in the British Army. I even saw some of their Documentaries, the process they went through to become gurkhas. Fearless fighting soldiers, the best when it comes to knives fighting, deadly warriors. The best as well in jungle fight. Even though I'm a policeman serving in the RPNGC (SSD), I had so much respect for them.. They deserved the best and more from the British Government when they are done with their service in the British Arm Forces... Salute you man for you achievement and service. 👍... 🇵🇬
Im Ex British Army as a Filipino Asian 🇵🇭 always had funny moments being mistaken to be a nepalese gurkha 😂 i have so many nepalese friends and felt like one of them. Very humble and kind people. Wish the government treats the commonwealth better
Great interview. Been aware of Krishna for a while and he's come across as a thoroughly great human who can inspire young people who during times of hardship need men like this as role models
I would love to get a chat with Phil again and tell some stories of how he looked after Me in my first few years of military life I owe him a lot he’s a legend in so many ways thanks to him I woke up fast as a 18 year old soldier thank god I had him as my section commander I have a few stories I’m sure Phil would laugh at them now thanks again big man from clarkie xx
For some reason, I always believed that for a young Nepalese chap, being a Gurkha rifleman was IT. You will forever be a rock star. Clearly, some went a little further.
First interview of yours I’ve listened to and I’ve got to say you have great interviewing skills. Not interrupting but also when needed, bringing the most out of the person being interviewed to get the most out of it. Many can’t do that.
Gurka, SAS operator and buddhist teachings all rolled into one person. Extraordinary person and life, soooo very inspiring. Really like the part on the instinctive reaction of a soldier.
What an amazing man, fantastic interview, much respect for the Ghurkas, my grandfather fought along side them in WW2, he was a Chindit in Burma with them, had nothing but respect for them.
First time seeing your show, excellent. I have been a supporter of the Gurkhas for many years and contribite to the Gurkha charities regularly. Keep up the good work.
What an amazing, modest, grounded and intelligent man. I feel so much better mentally and spiritually by listening to this. Thankyou Phil and thankyou Krish for being such an inspiration for so many people 🙏
I worked with the Gurkhas a cpl off times whilst in the Argyles couldn’t believe how disciplined they were and glad they’re getting better treatment off our government they will not let Britannia down 👏👏

Placing your hand flat on your head is British army sign language for 'on me' or come to me.

You hate Gurkhas after all they went through serving British army.... freaking hypocrite.

Thanks for watching!
Is that chat gpt bro
I feel a massive sense of pride just listening to a Gurkha on the screen i have no affiliation to them i just deeply admire them
Glad you enjoyed this episode!
Absolutely.Fierce pride
I loved working with the Gurkhas, they never ever got messed with in Chatham, very smart and tough soldiers, every single one of them !! They are a credit to our nation and Nepal !!
Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a comment!
the gurkhas originally belonged to the british indian army....they were so good that the brits decided to take them and recruit gorkha personnel after the indian independence...india originally had 16 gorkha regiments...out of which 8 were taken as her majestys gorkhas and the remainder was affiliated to the indian army.
You fucking What's Ur prblm if he is giving credit to Nepal(which it deserves) .he is talking about Nepal here@@bibaswanmukherjee7237
@@bibaswanmukherjee7237stfu they are Nepali !! Look at this Indians, now even claiming gorkhas is their own😂😂😂 jealousy
When the interviewer asked "Isnt he heavy" his reply was along the lines of "He is my father, how can he he heavy?"
He looked genuinely puzzled by the question. This shows you the mindset that makes a Gurkha.
Their bravery is second to none because they see life differently.
That's who they are, and they would even do that for a stranger.
Humble and deadly, the best friend and the worst enemy.
Thanks for watching
I have huge respect and admiration for the Gurkhas but the way they are treated by every UK government is beyond disgraceful and I would stand with these men long before any politician
Their campaign was rejected by the European Court, It was BS to fool the gullible British public into giving them more money on a contract that was already good for them as Nepalis, they were never UK citizens . By the way the hunger strikes were faked and done in shifts.
You have never done anything honorable in your life. As you say in your handle, you are a snowflake.
@@jamestyler3449 are you proud that British regiments have been merged and disbanded while the MOD still employs foreign contractors ?
Im Ex 4 PWRR & have the utmost respect for all the Gurkhas i worked with whilst i was in ,they are always polite , humble ,hard working & never moaned about a single thing in any adverse situation, Cant say enough good things about the quality of these men. This interview really was inspiring , keep up the excellent work Phil.
I've met Kris, such a lovely guy, so much respect.
Amazing guy, amazing things with Hari .#ALF Pilgrim bandits
This is how we will raise our kids. How about you? It's not a lot to keep your mouth shut. Raise them with expectations. Don't let them soft. If you do then their losses will be on your hands. So I guess you can't be weak either. God bless you and make your stronger than your are
Current 4PWRR and I second that. Humble and courteous people, no nonsense and tough for when it matters but with a warm smile for their brothers and sisters in arms. 👌🏻

Mate, your best interview ever. This guy touched me and he's a Gurkha. I'm ex NZ military and trained with a few. Amazing men.
Thanks so much for the support!
What an amazing story from such a humble and great man. So proud to have the Gurkhas as part of the British forces.
What a humble guy... just what you'd expect from a Gurkah.
Great interview.
Two great men right there thanks for your service
Huge Respect for Gurkha Soldiers great guys very proud tough great sense of humour ! worked several times early 80's Hong Kong Bruenei and NZ Afghan, was a great honour love this pod cast.
Very inspiring interview. Nothing seems impossible listening to this guy over come every hurdle in his way. Least not to say his time in SAS on missions. He didn't dive into that much but one can only imagine the missions.
As a former British soldier myself, I've got so much love & respect for the Gurkhas....great bunch of lads, and a formidable fighting unit.
Thanks so much for watching!
I have nothing but the highest respect. Where to start.. there are many ex gurka ( apologies if i spelled it wrong ) families in Colchester where i live. , generosity, kindness.. ❤ Great food and welcome in the 'Brittania' .
Fantastic insight..
Thanks for watching!
Both my mother and father have served with the Gurkhas and i had the pleasure of their torment on an exercise. Without doubt the most loyal, honourable and best soldiers we have ever met. Thank you for your commitment to the British Army and the UK. I pray we show you the same respect.
Every Gurkha I've known has been an absolute gent...great guys!
Goldstar trainers... Fuck Yeah
Pretty common among aspirants and the one serving in Indian army aswell.

It’s one thing the Americans have got right 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 💜👊
Thanks so much for watching!
I am automatically feeling high and proud listening it as being person from Nepal.

Wow, we are so lucky to have guys like this in the British Army. in the 80's went through my Jungle Warfare instructors course buddied up with a superb Gurkha.

What a gentleman. The Gurkha are a lovely bunch.
They really are! Thanks for watching
Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a comment!
Got to be the best military interview I’ve seen. What a special (and humble) guy
Gurkha's are bred as warriors & live as warriors, then they prove it in battle. HUGE respect to these guys! 🫡 🇬🇧 🫡

I have nothing but respect, admiration and hero worship for the Gurkhas.. their dedication, mentality and honour is truly awesome. I’m so glad we have them in the British army. SAS and Gurkhas for me are the best in the world.
Absolutely. The Gurkhas embody incredible strength and resilience, their contributions to the British Army are truly commendable.🫡

The British soldier, learns determination, professionalism, and the resolve to just crack on and get the job done.
Gurkha's are born to the world with these qualities already installed.
Nepalis are amazing people, make stunning soldiers, and I'm proud to have worked with them.
Kris is a legend 👍
I befriended a couple of Gorkhas when I was injured at Headley Court back in 92. Small chaps! Immensely strong!
Thanks for watching
What a fantastic guy, and a brilliant interview, thanks to both of you. I first met Gurkhas during the firemans' strike in 1977. The men of Hereford in 1982, as they crossed decked to my ship before going forward onto dry land. Later on we were in the vicinity when a Sea King went down after a bird strike, a black day for everyone involved, but we did our best for them, but it wasn't enough and it still haunts me. God bless those brave men, and thanks to you all for having the courage to go out and do dark deeds so that we may sleep safely in our beds.
Had the pleasure to work n trained with Gurkha in Singapore police force!
we owe them ALOT.
Absolutely, their contributions have made a huge difference in so many lives.
