When I was a kid, I remember I was 9 years old, I only played for 30 minutes to 1 hour, the amount of fear and tension reached a level where I started to shake and I had to turn off the playstation 2 and watch some cartoons and let it go. Now i return to the music to have some relaxing moments, strange isn't it?
This is also my experience with the game. I remember forcing myself through SH3. Intro was so scary, it took me days to gather myself to complete it. I'd pause the game every time I see a monster and shut off console. Walking through the day city was a breeze compared to the nightmarish amusement park. When I reached the moment, when you go to otherworld, I noped the fuck out. Maybe now I'll give it another try.
Those were the good days. I was 12 when SH1 came out. Threw the controller and all I had played was the Demo from the playstation magazine. I don't usually get freaked out by anything, but this one did it. Still my favorite.
@@senkodan That was me in the subways of SH3. Seeing the 'cancer' monsters I said that's enough of nope today for me...That's the part I had to push through.
The first game I played alone was SH2, before I watched mi dad playing SH1. I remember that hearing the radio in SH2 starting to make noises was the scariest thing because I knew that some monster was around. The good old days, the last SH game that I played was homecoming, and that was also a long time ago.
Maybe we need to return to that silent place, to face our fears.

In the official canon, Silent Hill isn't an evil place by default - it simply brings forward the unconscious mind of its visitors (Fogworld is REM phase of sleep and Otherworld is a stage of deep sleep).

I'm from Italy and I believe silent hill is beautiful in every aspect
I picked these games up during college, and they helped change my life. I was depressed, and naturally drifted towards studying philosophy and psychology. This game invokes anxiety, dread, and self hatred like no other game has for me. My personal studies continue, and every time I return to the Silent Hill franchise, it acts as a Rorschach test, showing me things I never knew about myself. Having found meaning and purpose in life, these melodies provide context to my happiness, and remind me of darker more selfish days.

They truly need to be dedicated for the show to really come into light. As a Silent Hill fan, I say it's too soon for them to make a TV show. I know they'll ruin it. I'm curious how the new Resident Evil TV show is going to work out. So far, a lot of potential relating to the game.
I used to have problems with anxiety (well, I still do but it's a little better) and I would play the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack while driving late at night. I believe it helped me. I would think, How terrible it would be to crash and die while this music is playing! ...exactly as terrible as if other music was playing. I have the responsibility to drive well, and that won't change if I'm feeling frightened or feeling confident. The dangers of the real world aren't predicted by a soundtrack. I believe this music helped me understand that reality exists independent of my emotions, so I can keep going when I feel an irrational fear.

Just what I needed for my first semester of College!
The game and movie(first one) were really the only media that freaked me out. I love the ambiance/music. I use it for dnd all the time
Never Forgive Me, Never Forget Me puts me in a very weird mood, I just want to be left alone, lie down anywhere and just feel that I exist, but at the same moment I wonder what it must be to be forgotten... it's just incredible.

Silent Hill will always be in my heart. Kinda creepy to say that, but the way those games were made is just amazing. All the atmosphere, the feelings it causes... Damn! The soundtrack matches every single thing in the game. It adds all we need for a full experience, I simply LOVE IT ALL!

Resting Comfortably is by far the greatest track I've ever heard
Same here. I listen to it every single day. Such a moving track. Makes me think about my life and sadness for some reason.
What adds to the creepiness to the game, is how relaxing the music is. It's kind of like it's trying to pacify you into being okay in Silent Hill, and to just accept its crazy atmosphere.
The whole purpose is to make the protagonist come to terms with their sins, so technically that's exactly what it's trying to do, being okay in silent hill and learning to accept your sins

It's so strange that every time I listen to Promise, I get flashbacks from Silent Hill like nightmares that I had in the past... Creepy but somehow calming...

Years ago I introduced Silent Hill to my cousin. A couple of months later, she's using the soundtrack to fall asleep. 😐
She's in deep sleep while I am awake thinking too deeply for some reason. The music makes me think things too deeply.

i always go to my special place to feel calm, and it happens to be silent hill.
Suppose it's a testament to the games quality for something to be so messed up and scary but also have some of the most calming music ever.
My friend and room mate at the time bought the re-release of silent hill 2 when it came out despite NOT being one for horror. He sat on his knees on his bean bag chair super tense when playing the first part of the game and the first real jump scare enemy he screamed, threw the controller, curled up into a ball and rolled off the beanbag in one beautiful motion. It was the best thing I have ever seen to this day and Ill never let him forget it.
I don't know what it is about the Silent Hill movie, but it literally puts me to sleep. Like, every time. I have happily slept on my couch with that movie going more times than I can count. The only explanation I have is the soundtrack, it must be.

At about 1.5 hrs into this while working I finally realized that the background gradually gets darker and darker as it goes along. Really subtle but cool addition!

I usually have trouble with falling sleep. Since 3 days I'm listening to this and within 20 minutes I fall asleep. Not because it's boring. I love silent hill and its Ost. Is it weird to say, I found peace and comfort within these tones?

I wonder if Akira Yamaoka was partly inspired by Erik Satie (gnossienes, etc) when composing the soundtrack. It gives that "nostalgic" vibe as Satie's but adds a certain "uneasiness" element to it which fits the themes of Silent Hill. Either way mr.Yamaoka's job is impressive.

SH as a series is amazing. I love it so much. My absolute favorite.. It helped me through some very dark times, where playing the games for the first time was the brightest spot in life. I've come to love myself and life as a whole, but the games are something I forever cherish. I fall asleep to this playing every night. Amazing mix!

It's always nice to have another Silent Hill music compilation on RUclips. I believe at this point I've added almost all of them to a playlist. Yours is the newest. The Silent Hill series is such a special little gem, something well never get the likes of again in our lifetime probably. At least not until the gaming industry is willing to take risk again, let creators be creative with there ideas, and to explore all topics not worrying about censorship and offending others. Thank you for this video. The music of the Silent Hill series specifically the first 3, is very special to me.

This is amazing, I am so sad I didn't play the game, I was too young, I just watched my mother play it some times. Fantastic memories, most of which are of her playing the resident evil series though. So now I shall play the original silent hills!

Promise is great don’t get me wrong, but it’s not exactly something that puts me to sleep
The goal was to relax the listener first and create something that gradually relaxes you until you eventually fall asleep - in my mind, it's supposed to resemble the process of falling asleep. Of course, I agree, it's not ambient and not everyone will react to it the same way. Excuse the following cringeworthiness but that's the beautiful thing about art. I appreciate your feedback, glad you enjoy it.

If you truly played Silent Hill, then you know there is no sleeping to be had at all in any of the songs.
Good point. Most of the time, the songs are a stark contrast to rather stressful or suspenseful moments in the game. For example, Resting Comfortably plays when you're walking the corridors of an apartment building made of blood. Nonetheless relaxing when listened to separately.
Silent hill is the best of the best horror for me. The ambience of the game feels unique compare to other horror games. Dark and true horror.
