A commenter on another video said.....Mary can make her own water! Adore her videos and I have made so much from her recipes. I grew my own cabbage and made sauerkraut from her recipe. My neighbors begged me for more! Said it was the best they ever had! Thank you Mary! ALL your recipes are great. I also make my own cream cheese thanks to you! ❤
Mary just when I think you can impress me no more you share these amazing recipes and techniques. I wish I could take a cooking class with you in person. You are one of a kind and I appreciate you!!!
I think I've watched over a hundred of your videos , and I have to say -bar none- you are the smilingest, cheerfulest, most pleasantest person I have seen yet on RUclips 😊 You do things differently than I do, and I have learned a lot of tips and tricks from watching Mary's Nest...thank you for sharing your methods!
I just ran garlic and onion chives and salt thru the food processor. I definitely didn’t see your video before i started. It is in the dehydrator now. My eyes are on fire 🔥 !!!

I'm *super* intrigued by this idea right now, hence why I looked it up here on RUclips and was QUITE happy to see that *you* (one of my favorites) had made a video on the subject! ☺️👍🙌
What a brilliant idea to use garden herbs. I am going to prepare a few jars to give as Christmas presents! Thank you so much for sharing. I wouldn't have thought of it myself...
Mary, I could listen to you all day! You are such an excellent teacher! I’ve been growing a few herbs, and I think I will try this. I love, love, love the use of fresh herbs in food. I started experimenting with herbs when I was 14, and I fell hard for them. I tried every one I could get my hands on. So, thanks for showing me how to prepare the herb salt and store it. ❤️❤️❤️
I just made oregano, majoram, cilantro, basil and thyme, all separately. Found the technique on a home steaders site but loved watching yours. I am hoping my parsley will be enough to cut soon.
I remember a Christmas many years ago when I couldn't afford buying presents... but I filled glass bottles with herbs, garlic and sunflower oil that I already had and gifted them. Everyone loved it. After watching this I want to try making Herb Salt and fill some pretty containers. I think it would be fantastic gifts. Thank you so much for teaching and inspire us. Greeting from Norway, - Tonje

@@MarysNest Thank you. I've never heard the term nutrient dense food before I heard you say it. I don't even know if we have that term in norwegian but I understand what it means. I'm specially interested in learning about nutrient dense wild plants (I'm writing a novel set in the Ica Age) and I want to eat better food in general. We don't eat as much processed food here compared to the US and I grew up in a foodie family. We live in what could be translated to generation living (3 generations living together) and eat dinner together most days. We live by the coast and eat a fair amount of seafood incl. whale (my favorite meat but sadly sooo expensive). Anyway, thank you for your reply. I've already subrcribed a few days ago and watched some of your videos. I liked the breadbaking ones. My dad (retired electrician) is the baker in our family and provides us with bread. He tries out ideas and yesterday he had added pumpkin seeds - very tasty. We just resently discovered pumpkin seeds (as snacks). My family and I (and I suspect most norwegians/skandinavians) are unfamiliar with pumpkin in general so that would also be something I'd like to learn more about. Greetings to you and your family. - Tonje
@@MarysNest thank you, I made a purple basil salt once but it was so pungent, smelled real flowery, maybe because i also used the actual basil flowers with it, did not care for it
Thanks for sharing this. We love wine flavored salts but never thought about herb flavored salts. We will give this a try. You are so right. The ones we have bought have been extremely expensive. Take care and stay safe, Rob
Hi Rob, Wow - wine flavored salt sounds amazing!! Glad you'll give this a try too! I think you'll like it! Hope you and the whole SG family are doing great and staying healthy! God bless, Mary
That's a great idea! In my own Christmas gift boxes 🎄🎁 I can include a small jar of this homemade herbed salt, and also a jar of my home canned strawberry rhubarb jam, a jar of homemade pre-measured cookie mix, and also some dried mint, & dried lemon balm teas using my own home grown herbs🌿.
Thank you so much for your amazing content Mary , my mother loves your videos( even if she doesn’t understand English, I always translate your recipes,so she can make ‘m) by the way we are from Morocco 🇲🇦, we will try herbs salt asap, thank you again for your explanations and advices . Salam

Dear Mary, thank you so much for your reply , we ve already tried many of your traditional recipes( sauerkraut, pickeled veggies, pickles , apple cidre , fermented tomatoes with basilic.) and it’s very delicious and healthy, I try my best to keep eating fresh and healthy food by using traditional Moroccan cuisine and traditional utensils, since few months, I’m exploring and trying more traditional cuisine across the world ( congo , Japan, italy) and I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered your channel , I discovered traditional American preparations and cuisine ... ( wich by the way is unknown in our country ) , and I really love the way you explain the steps, and all the advices you give are priceless , I’ll share with you soon some of our Moroccan traditional recipes too ! Another great video and idea for us that don't always think outside the box.🤔 I always look forward to your new videos and I am going to try this one out this week. I did your homemade bouillon recipe and keep it in the fridge and more in the freezer, I use all the time for so many things. This one will be just as great, and I do have plenty of time on my hands. Thank you.
Hi Charlotte, So happy that the bouillon worked out well. And glad you like the idea of making herb salts too! Speaking of bouillon, have you seen the videos where I show how to turn it into bouillon powder to make it shelf stable so that you can store it in your pantry? Here is the playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U3msGZzFDH0HNSbzDoooPVc Love, Mary
@@MarysNest yes, I saw the one about turning it into powder, but to tell the truth I forgot about it, thanks for the reminder. Since sending a message about making the herbed salt this morning I have already done that, just that fast. Love it!!!
I have a whole collection of mortar and pestles. Those who know me, and are looking for a gift, know I collect them lol. I've only gotten a couple duplicates, and I re-gifted them. I use them for a lot of things. I'll be using one of the bigger ones for this! Thank you~
Hi Sweet Mary😇 I just love your intro.. 💖 I’m learning so much from all your videos... I plan on making some small batches with the sea salts that I have on hand.
I will keep this in mind for my Husband, hes gonna love this Sweet Mary🤗thank you. 🍷🍾🍇🍞🧀🥩🥓🥗 I can't do this because last time I started using Sea Salt It raised my blood pressure. I need to get me a * Food Dehydrator * I look forward to seeing all your new Cooking Video's. 🤗💗🌻💐🌷 Love Debbie

Susan Spencer you might try Real Brand Salt. I love salt and my dr says my numbers look like I don’t use salt at all and said she’s had other patients who also used “Real Salt” with similar results. Hope that, if you try it, it works for you.
Thank you for the information on the parsley. I've always had trouble with my kidneys anyways and I put dried parsley in EVERYthing! If it ain't sweet, it's getting parsley in it. Well, no more! I am gonna pull the reins and lay off the parsley. (As much as I can anyways) :)
What a wonderful idea for harvested herbs! I would dehydrate mine and babe them up but would think they looked like a bag of marijuana! We are getting into the second planting season start here in AZ, but it's too hot so far. Just a couple more weeks and I can plant in my containers.
LOL!! How funny about the bagged up dry herbs! I am with you - it's so hot here in central Texas, my garden is quite lacking right now except for the herbs which seem to be able to put up with lots of heat and no water! But yes, like you, I am looking forward to my fall planting!! So happy you liked this idea for herbs! Love, Mary
Hi Mary. I would like to make these for long term storage. Can you please tell me if I would place the seasoned salt into a low temp over to dry everything or would I use dried herbs straight up? Also, do add an O2 absorber or moisture absorber to my jars? Many thanks for the recipe. I cannot wait to make some.
Great informative video, Mary! However, there are too many ads. One or two ads is ok. Too many ad interruptions are a big turnoff. (Just thought you might like to know.) Thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful rest of summer!
Hi May, Yes, I understand completely. I never allowed mid-roll ads in my videos...but...On July 27, RUclips changed it's policy on how it places ads in videos. They decided to automatically put mid-roll ads in all videos. In order for me to change it, I have to go into each video individually to edit it to request no mid-roll ads. As you can imagine with 300+ videos, that is a major undertaking! Thanks so much for your patience. Love, Mary
My first impression, was interesting but why would I do this. By the end of the videa, I can hardly wait to try it. What do you think of adding chives? Have you used harisa? I bought a jar and am thinking it could easily be made at home.
Mary, I think you should make an online course that is educational and practical (including quizzes)... that walks novices step-by-step on how to turn their kitchen into a traditional foods kitchen and explains... how to find the right foods for them, that suite their tastebuds and bioindividuality (genes). The RUclips videos are awesome, but for busy people like myself, it is hard to watch 30 min video, know what brands to buy, how to make it quick and easy, and all that.
Mary, I love learning from you. My internet data time is limited, so your long time videos present a problem for me. Is there a way to get the just in less than 28 minutes. Thanks
Oh Cynthia, I understand completely! I also have a website where I share all the info and the printable recipe. That might work out best for you. The direct link to the corresponding blog post to this video is in the description under the video. Or go directly to my website MarysNest DOT com and click on the tab that has the work "Recipes" in it. Hope this helps. Love, Mary
I love love the recipes and information Mary gives us; however, this particular video is much longer than it needs to be. It was difficult to watch for this reason
Thanks for sharing. We're doing well. I'm still loving my new bags but might need a rain cover as the top doesn't extend to the edges of the bag like on some totes. I was planning to get another basic Kindle reader in September or October. I've been looking and think the Paperwhite version with the higher memory is a better fit for me so I will definitely have to wait until October since Lauren Brooks Shut Up and Train is still next on my list. Otherwise I'd go way over budget. Daniel changed his tablet to Chinese. I couldn't figure out by the icons as they didn't match mine to change it back to English so I had to factory reset it. I had to unlock all the goat mutations in the Goat Simulator games again. I also had to wait for the Endless games to complete downloading what we unlocked on them. Numbers and Wordplay went fast. Reader took a couple of days to complete as it's the largest file of all of them. I still have to add Endless ABC which is the shortest file and Goat Simulator Waste of Space as the file glitched so I deleted it but it no longer appears on our cloud like all the other games.
Hi Ginger, See if this video helps: ruclips.net/video/kurppVv40V4/видео.html It includes a section on how to dry herbs without a dehydrator. Love, Mary
Mary has written and released a cook book called 'The Modern Pioneer Cookbook' since this video was made. I'm going to buy it myself soon. I'm unsure if this video's 'Homade Flavored Salt' recipe is in it or not though.
mary i understand about the freshness of herbs..... but why not use the dried herbs that you buy in stores with the salt? wouldnt that work too???? seems like drying herbs when you can already get it dried would be less work.. ???
Hi Patty, You can definitely use dry herbs to make this too but there is something about using the fresh herbs that create a very intense flavor - especially because these homemade salts are dried at a low temperature. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest ahhh well that would explain it;];];] and you honestly DO NOT KNOW how old the herbs are when bought...they just have the expiration date ..and what temps they were dried at or how they were stored until shipped..etc....they MIGHT NOT have any nutrient value at all by the time you buy them also..i usually crush mine in my palm before adding them to "release" what flavor is left in them...and hope.. it seasons whatever its going into..thanks for reeplying mary;];];] i wish i could have even a container "garden" but my neighbor out back is at that age where she thinks every animal in the whole town is starving ..so she puts out food EVERY SINGLE NITE!!! i have skunks/ coons / cats/ foxes/ dogs etc... you name it.. show up because of her "buffet" .. im waiting for the bears and big foot to show up next... betwn them fighting over food and"marking their territory." all over every living plant.. a garden wouldnt have a chance. i have tried calling animal control and the town ordinaces and code officer and tried talking to her, i have even had tried her family... nope she will wait til 1130 12pm midnight... with her flashlight "stocking her food pantry" for all the "starving animals".wish and be dammed ... is my situation.the only way it would actually stop... is when she either goes in a nursing home or she rests in peace. which probably wont be for another 10 or so yrs..i have lived here 19 yrs..and couldnt figure out what i have soo many animals traveling in my yrd or what would attract them...until...i saw her put out food. time is the only answer to this miserable outcome. so i can only watch and wish ..
Hi Linda! LOL!! I have two coffee post because of this pandemic quarantine, I have a full house and I need to make sure that I have two big post of coffee brewing in the morning to keep everyone happy. :-) Love, Mary
I have a coffee maker and an electric kettle. I drink tea, my DH drinks decaf coffee and we have a French press for the regular coffee drinkers who come by. Everyone gets what they want
LOL!! I do have a lot of aprons! I think I need to do a video about them one of these days. Over the course of my life, when it comes to birthdays or Christmas, everyone in my family thinks of three things when it comes to getting me a gift… A cookbook, something for my kitchen, or an apron! Now that I am in my 60s, I think I must have about 20+ aprons! LOL! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Mary, I love your show. I'm not judging you, why are you heavy? You cook nutrition foods, but you look heavy. Don't get me wrong, I'm heavy too; thus, I don't eat nutrition foods all the time that's why I'm heavy
Oh Debbie, You are so sweet and gentle. I don’t take offense at all. I have tried very hard to lose weight and have lost over 30 pounds over the years and I continue to try to lose more. It’s not easy. I’m in my mid-60s. But I forge ahead. 🤗 The good news is that overall I am in excellent health. No diabetes or other type of health problems. I credit that to traditional foods. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest your show is so awesome, I love watching your show. This morning, I watched you and your beautiful son. He looks really healthy. You raised him well. Let's lose weight together. I'll keep in touch.

Mary, I could listen to you all day! You are such an excellent teacher! I’ve been growing a few herbs, and I think I will try this. I love, love, love the use of fresh herbs in food. Oh Judy! Thank you so much for the kind words. You are so sweet. Glad you like the idea of making this salt. Love, Mary
I just made oregano, majoram, cilantro, basil and thyme, all separately. Found the technique on a home steaders site but loved watching yours. I am hoping my parsley will be enough to cut soon.
German krauter salz! You can't get it in the US and we love it! Fabulous!
I have made enough basil pesto to last a year. I was wondering what to do with my herbs. Can’t wait to try this.
Hi Debbie, Wonderful! I am so happy to hear that this idea will come in handy! Love, Mary

- Tonje
Perfect timing, need to harvest herbs from my garden and wasnt sure what to do with it

Sorry...
I use the name Spencer because 1 im proud the 2nd reason is my personal info was hacked one time. So Ive learned to safe guard myself by using my 2nd Great Grandmothers Maiden name & my middle name. Sorry.
Have a good day😘👱♀️
Susan Spencer you might try Real Brand Salt. I love salt and my dr says my numbers look like I don’t use salt at all and said she’s had other patients who also used “Real Salt” with similar results. Hope that, if you try it, it works for you.
Thank you ❤️Love your channel ❤️

You are so welcome
i like this video , you explaned everythinh , thank you ... if you have video on herb s oil i want to see....all best , and have a nice day
Thank you for this. 😊😊
Can you do this with dried herbs, if not will I get away with following your fresh recipe and adding dried lovage ? I love you Mary xxx
Great recipe..I love this. T.y
Happy to hear that you like this!! Love, Mary
I just love her !!!
Just started my first batch! X your fingers! I used pink Himalayan...so I used less.
Wonderful! Keep us posted!
@@MarysNest it turned out great! Sent some in a Mylar bag to my mom ...she was awestruck and loved it!
Great informative video, Mary! However, there are too many ads. One or two ads is ok. Too many ad interruptions are a big turnoff. (Just thought you might like to know.)
Thanks for sharing!
Love, Mary
I use the ads as time ro read all the helpful comments!😊
This looks amazing.
Hi Mary. Love your channel, your recipes, and your ethos. The word pestle has a silent ‘t’. So it sounds more like peh sel. Just like whistle.
Hi Amanda, LOL!! I am a wonderful mis-pronouncer. 🤗
Can you use dry herbs for this recipe?
Do you find that the herbs dried in salt taste better than herbs dried without salt? And do they last longer?
My first impression, was interesting but why would I do this. By the end of the videa, I can hardly wait to try it. What do you think of adding chives?
Have you used harisa? I bought a jar and am thinking it could easily be made at home.
Hi Ann, I love the idea of adding chives! I have not tried harisa yet but need to! Love, Mary
Do you have a recipe for mint jelly?
Mary, I think you should make an online course that is educational and practical (including quizzes)... that walks novices step-by-step on how to turn their kitchen into a traditional foods kitchen and explains... how to find the right foods for them, that suite their tastebuds and bioindividuality (genes). The RUclips videos are awesome, but for busy people like myself, it is hard to watch 30 min video, know what brands to buy, how to make it quick and easy, and all that.
Would it be safe to make celery salt the same way? ...in the oven....
Love, Mary
Otherwise you could reduce resolution, frame rates or only grab the audio, depending on how important it is to you
Hi Mary ❤️
Hi, can we dry this in microwave ?
Luv
That's a good question. I'm not sure about that. I would recommend checking the National Center for Home Food Preservation website. Love, Mary
BLESSINGS 💟💗
Hi. Cn we sun dry this
I love love the recipes and information Mary gives us; however, this particular video is much longer than it needs to be. It was difficult to watch for this reason
I needed to come see you to escape the politics for a few. Thank you for what you do ❤️
So glad you're here and that I can offer a bit of a respite from the daily trials and tribulations of life! Love, Mary
Great idea.
Question about 3 citrus marmalade - do you leave the lid on when bringing to boil? I think I made citrus toffee!
Hi Helen, Oh dear!! Best to leave the lid off when bringing it up to a boil. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Hi Jean, Thank for visiting! Glad to hear you and the family are doing well! Love, Mary

How to dry herbs without a hydrator machine? Do you have a video
Hi Ginger, See if this video helps: ruclips.net/video/kurppVv40V4/видео.html It includes a section on how to dry herbs without a dehydrator. Love, Mary
Do you have a cook book on all of this
Mary has written and released a cook book called 'The Modern Pioneer Cookbook' since this video was made.
Hi

SQUIRREL.. why two coffee pots? One for tea?
Hi Linda!
I'm wondering how many aprons you have, Mary? Seems you have a different apron for every video.
Why don't you just say that parsley is a natural diuretic.
Love your videos but you’re literally10 minutes in before we get started...
Poor knife egde,
Mary, youre lovely. You are. I am interested in your content, but could you please consider shortening your videos PLEASE. Even just 20 mins...not 30
