As someone that is in the medical profession with a focus on nutrition and musculoskeletal wellness, I can say this woman has it right with not only the proper electrolytes that you don’t get in most sports drinks, but also the quality of the electrolytes themselves. Magnesium glycinate is the easiest and most readily available for the body to use and you don’t see many highlighting the importance of the quality of the electrolyte. Bravo 👏🏼

G'day Mary. The RUclips algorithms decided to show me this video and I'm so glad it did. I was relieved to find out that the ingredients are actually easy to find and I don't need to spend a fortune on them. I have SIADH which is a health issue where my body just does not keep the sodium I give it. So I generally have one electrolyte drink a day, typically at bedtime and that works for me. But it's also expensive and I'd really like to stop buying the plastic drink bottles these drinks come in. The exercise electrolyte powders are expensive to buy too, so your recipe is just good common sense. I can take care of my health issue while saving approximately $60 a month. That's a lot back in my pocket! Thank you! I noticed the HEB logo somewhere in this video - oh my goodness, you're in Texas! My son lives in Houston. I live in Australia and I last visited in 2019. Love this! I ordered the potassium and magnesium while watching (have the salt already) and will make some of the powder up! I may a summer drink for when we're working out in the sunshine all day. It's called "Haymaker's Punch" and I got the recipe from Stacy from "Off Grid with Doug and Stacy". I might play around with adding this powder to that recipe, or just make it like you do.
This powder would be a good thing to keep on hand for times when someone in the household has a stomach flu with vomiting or diarrhea, as that's a way serious electrolytes can be lost. This would be like a homemade "Pedialyte" sort of substitute. When I was about a year old, I'm told that I had a stomach flu that warranted a trip to the ER. The doctor fed me a bottle of electrolyte-infused water and may have saved my life as I was really ill.

I recently bought a Copper Water Bottle. If I fill it up & put in fridge overnight you can sure taste the difference. Definitely taste some copper. Copper is good for the brain. Fires up the cylinders in the brain. In fact the ancient Egyptians used to hold copper rods in their hands for healing too. We are an electric & magnetic field. Also have a silver bottle. Both keep the drinks cold.

Hello all. I tried this recipe for a few months. Taking 1 liter of water daily with the suggested recipe. I did notice an increase in energy and less fatigue during workouts. However, was still gaining weight. Unfortunately I believe I may have overdone it, as I realized my body was retaining too much water due to the sodium content. I looked a little more plump. Since I have stopped taking it daily, I noticed my figure has slimmed down although I have probably not lost much weight. I think it's a great recipe, just something I would try a couple times a week as opposed to every day! The sodium seemed to have a building up effect on me! But it is possible those nutrients are readily available through foods. That being said I will still probably use it only weekly for the magnesium and potassium. Just something to be mindful of! -Alexandra

Hi there. I just wanted to thank you for your straight forward and simple recipe for an electrolyte drink. I was so pleased not to get involved in measuring grams etc. I put my salt mixture into a container and then put a half teaspoon into 7 little plastic pots with lids. Now all I need to do is measure out my 32 oz of water and stir in my measured salts. I found the saltiness a bit offputting at first but I stored my bottle in the fridge and by the end of the day I found I was enjoying it. I am not sure that my level of activity warrents an electrolyte drink, but I am on a strict low carb diet.
I am gradually winding down the pantry I stocked at the beginning of the pandemic, but here in the UK we have to store some things because of rising food prices. Best wishes, Carol UK.

I didn't see you mention it either here or on your recipe page, so I did the calculations to determine how much sodium, potassium, and magnesium are in each 32 oz "serving" (1/2 tsp powder added to 32 oz water). There's also a lot of chloride of course, but I'm not sure that matters much. Although the amount of chloride is usually listed in commercial electrolyte powders and liquids. My results:
      ---
      - Sodium: 1 cup salt is 48 tsp, so 1/2 cup salt is 48 1/2 tsp, which provides from 1000 - 1200 mg sodium per serving , depending on the coarseness of the salt.
      - Potassium: depending on the reference, 1/4 tsp KCl provides about 650 mg potassium, so 7 of those makes 1 3/4 tsp, which would amount to about 4500 mg potassium. That gives about 100 mg potassium per serving (1/48 of the total)
      - 1/2 tsp magnesium glycinate provides about 200 mg magnesium (per the Best Naturals brand of powder), so 1/48 of that gives about 4 mg magnesium per serving .)
      ---
For comparison, the values for these electrolytes present in 32 oz servings of commercial products "Keto Chow", "Keto Lyte" and "Ionic Lytes" are all about the same, at 125 mg sodium, 150 mg potassium, 45 mg magnesium, and 300 mg chloride. So, I think your mixture has way too much sodium and way too little magnesium. The potassium content seems to be in the right ballpark though.

This is great, thank you! I've previously searched for electrolyte recipes and so many simply suggest water and salt. For some reason, I seem to retain too much salt and require more potassium. It's so obvious to me when my potassium is out of balance as I get severely fatigued and have heart palpitations. If I supplement all electrolytes but omit the salt, I feel better within 1 minute. It's miraculous. Store bought electrolytes seem to contain far too much salt for me. I practice intermittent fasting/ time restricted eating and electrolytes are critical for my overall feeling of wellness and both mental and physical energy. Do you know if it would be okay to perhaps increase the potassium and/ or half the salt in your recipe to help balance this? Are there any additional ingredients I should avoid in terms of inhibiting the absorption of the electrolytes? I love this recipe, thank you, I'm definitely going to try it. 🌞 Here in Australia, electrolyte solution store bought, are extremely expensive and simply contain too much salt. I've read many people are not consuming sufficient potassium and magnesium in their diet whereas salt is in abundance in so many things. I'm presently camping beachside and don't have access to a well stocked kitchen, so while I'm doing my best to avoid processed foods, they're unavoidable at times. I truly dislike them, definitely feel worse both physically and mentally if I eat them, and prefer cooking from scratch, and I find your videos so helpful and inspiring for my future plans. Thank you. 👌

YUM! And thank you so much for your electrolyte powder recipe! I currently take supplements daily per Dr's order, but now I'll be able to drink them and still get my required amount for my body at an affordable price, while being a lot more natural than anything purchased already prepared.

Amazing! never knew we could make our own electrolytes. Our entire family has been spending on expensive electrolyte drops since 3 years since this is an essential on a Ketogenic diet. Much thanks and love Mary. Can't wait to start making our own.

This is an excelent idea especially for those starting on ketogenic diet...in the beginning muscle cramps were a side effect...I would just add real salt to my water...thanku soooooo much for this...I shall spread the word...no orange juice tho...that's just sugar water...the amount of oranges it takes to make the juice would be unnatural to eat and or it's pasteurized leaves u with sugar water...thanku...
