I can feel your excitement growing. Dan is a hoot, showing us around the room with the action 😂 too funny. It's all taking shape and easy to visualise complete. ❤
It's so exciting! Wow, they are really cracking on. You can't see, but I'm grinning like a fool. I love that you are restoring that old street light. It's just that kind of connection and preservation that speaks of honoring the hands that built these things. It's about respect for those who've gone before and our connections. Watching your videos always makes me happy. Joyful saludos desde Asturias!
Fantastic progress. So exciting. And the garden looks super, too. Lovely video. Thanks, as ever, for sharing a little slice of your life. Greetings from Devon.
So exciting for you both. Good idea to document where the wires etc are. Wherethe butterflies are, on te buddleia, a piece of music is playing. Many years ago I stayed in Cadaques, where the music was the Sardana. Is that piece the same?
Dan ‘in the shower’ made me think of Jungle Book. Then I remembered the swing singing…. ‘Now I’m the King of the swingers…’ etc 😂 Thanks for the lovely update
What I’d give for a barrow load of those potatoes! Great progress on the house, will really be getting exciting from here on. By the way, Meraid, your framed print came out fabulous.
Hi Dan and Mariad another informative and interesting video. Thank you for sharing the progress on your amazing restoration. It is going to be so grand when it is completed. You are both such characters and your videos are filled with lots of laughter. Till next time, thank you for sharing, Coen and Jay

The walk through was really fun. It helps to keep up with all of the changes both past and future. I truly appreciate the visual aids you used to show the layout in relation to where Dan was at.
Ah! Thank you. Your videos are always a balm to the soul.❤ From your beautiful, beautiful garden to your impeccable background music - & everything in between. So excited about your window enlargements. It is my secret dream to have most the windows in my dream home extend down to floor level.🤫🤭
great place. Since the entry is upstairs you might want to have the electrician put in an electric line in case there is a future need for an exterior lift chair. You guys are in great shape, but since you plan to stay a long time, why not prepare for accidents-- recovering from a hip or knee replacement, a fragile back after excessive gardening, guests that have such problems, or you're annoyed with having to carry up cases of Champaign and Port. For that last item you might wish to install the chair now. Cheers.
after so much destruction and reconstruction it really started to look like a house, and a beautiful home to be! Happy for the progress and sharing your excitement. What a wonderful life you will have, Meraid: always on the sofa 😂. That butterfly 🦋! Now wondering what will be in the parcel …
Amazing progress and so much more satisfying than knocking it down and building a new house from scratch. Love how you're recycling whatever you can and the garden is abundant! You must be self sufficient in food for the year! Hopefully the channel can help a little with your renovation costs, and your birthday present to yourself looks splendid! Where will you hang it? Deserves it's own wall. 😎☀️🥰💚
Thank you for the guided tour layout, its all so exciting and i bet it will be a sight to behold when completed. Lol on the couch tripping and the washing demonstration. Enjoyed video and looking forward to the next update.
From this side when things look like they're slowing down then all of this happens.😊 I remember those street lights being used with incandescent bulbs a long long time ago. It does look good over the steps. That "torn" wall writing. I can imagine what's going to be fitted there... torneira? How are you coping with this heat wave? It must be hard for both you and the workers. Cold alvarinho helps a lot. I can tell from experience 😇
Thank u for sharing another video . Ur garden looks luxurious. I can't wait to see u both sitting on the verandah again having ur coffee n snacks. I will love to vicariously enjoy ur pleasure and joy. As puerile as it sounds i will be very happy to experience things by watching u both.
@@NearbyVeggies we are on the process for a year now, unifying two plots to be able on a rural area to have enough land to build our house as well. So i just can imagine how happy you both are, and what is so special about your vids is the fact that there are no scripts, at least feels this way, is so organic and raw, very refreshing to see you both happy and sharing your experience with your followers. All the best, and have a wonderful harvest
I believe that so far this has been the easy part of the construction, now comes the roof, the hydraulics, electrical parts, flooring, bathroom components and other things. There's still a lot of work. but it will certainly be cozy.
Congratulations! And nice Coimbra poster too! If you're not far from Coimbra, you're probably aware of a small town called Figueira-da- Fôz, near the Ocean. Nice to see you're slowly getting setted and happy to see you're having great results with whatever you're planting . With time , everything will eventually grow (except maybe for the non native species ). My mother used to grow everything she could put her hands on, and she was living near Coimbra. Hope you're both doing great there . Take care and keep on ! ps how are your potatoes doing? Once you talked about eventually loosing your Irish nationality, due to poor results (in a joke).
If the budget allows, it would be a good idea to pre-install a heating system or even air conditioning to finish installing in the future. Keep up the good work!
Good point. It is hot as hell in Portugal at the moment and it will only get warmer. Let's hope they thought of that. Recently, here in France, I had a heat pump installed to keep the upstairs cool.
@@NearbyVeggies I have a split heat pump for the upstairs. They work fine, but are a little bit ugly because of the big unit interior. If you have the Euros, a central system with the machinery in a utility closet is best. If a split is what works, find a discrete spot. cheers
Awesome, things are starting to take shape , a mansion in the making. One thing about this "Ugly Old " house I loved was the view and the tasty food that my auntie cooked in that primitive kitchen , unreal . I'm also glad to hear the old table is going to stay , had many good meals on that "Old Table" good memories of so long ago. Saudades e beijos from Canada.
Fantastic, your house is wonderful! The butterflies too are incredible! Can you tell me the name of the purple flower that the striped butterfly was on? ( swallowtail?). Thankyou for your videos. Cheers from chilly Oz! 😊
We love watching you guys and are excited about all your choices and the house will be amazing. We bought a house and also a ruin in Salaborda Nova - near Figuero dos Vinhos and we have been working with an architect on plans for the ruin. I think you are close to us ? We are about 30 min south of Coimbra
Do you have a good size wooded area on your property that you can cut firewood from? The way things are going in the world it’s best to be as self-sufficient as possible. Very smart to put in wood heat.
Nice tour! We have been thinking about moving to Portugal (or similar locations) but in our early 60s now and I wonder if it is too late to start such a project. How hard or difficult do you find all this to be?
One comment...be careful on the size of kitchen island you put in. It is the no.1 regret people tell me--that they went too large. It eats up traffic flow, visual balance, etc. And 9 times out of 10, they don't customize the height to the cook (most important!!). Get storebought if you need to, but have the top adjusted to you by a carpenter. 2 cooks? Split the top so surface works for both. Also, 2 areas for prep--wet one near a sink, and only put a small sink in your island if you don't have wall space (it is useful there for wet prep & drinks/parties--but visually sticks out in line of sight from other rooms.)
This a very good point re the island. It can be quite deceiving how much space they can take up. You will need a minimum of 1.2m walkway- 1m and you start pushing it. I can’t remember if you said you had an architect, But having your proposed kitchen drawn to scale will really help. Having said that, I’m sure you have it all under control! Cheers! 😊
You little tease you, Mairead😂😂😂😂....I think it's the trusses for the roof that are en route.
