You should probably know that Frank’s “I’ve covered wars you know” line is very iconic to Dead Rising fans.

Fun fact there is a counter in the game that tells you how many zombies you kill and if you kill the exact amount as willamette's population you get a trophy or achievement!

Longest day I spent in a game ever... Driving cars back and forth in the parking garage at a set route, pretty much the only way to reach the goal in time.

Random fun fact: a natural mammalian response (might be in other animals, I don't remember) makes them aroused in preparation or after a life-threatening experience. This is to ensure that there are offspring that may survive. It's responsible for a phenomenon of why mourners hook up after a funeral (yes it happens enough for studies to be done on it). So...yeah...statistically speaking, more of us are like Frank than we'd like to admit.

AH CLASSIC MASTERPIECE BEST VOICE ACTOR EVER!!
Man this takes me back to my childhood, countless hours spent playing through this game trying to figure out how to save all the survivors and get the best ending possible. Such a compelling well written story too that really grabs you. Highly recommend this game to any zombie lovers

Dead Rising is super fun! Gave me nightmares when I was kid, first 3 games are amazing. Can't wait till you two find out about how the wasps work it blew my mind! (No pun intended)

Credo became a journalist after his stint in DMC4...even though chronologically its the other way around.
Dead Rising is a tremendous game. Not to mention it's pretty scary the first time through. So many good memories playing it as an inexperienced kid and watching gameplay of it on G4. I guarantee everyone who played it for the first time got pretty frustrated with it, myself included. It's hard at first but once you align your expectations and learn what to do, it becomes easier. A huge open mall where you can use damn near everything as a weapon, unlimited options of clothing and loads of unlockable combat moves. As you'll find out in the next part, the mall is filled with insane humans called psychopaths. As well as survivors you can rescue. You are timed though, as you only have 3 in game days to what what you want. The story is very good and continues into the second and third games. Highly recommend them.

Oh yeah, you guys will definitely enjoy this journey. Dead Rising is lots of fun, all the games(though 4 was meh), fairly wacky while also being fairly serious. Used to play the crap out of this first game in particular back in the day. Cheers! Also, yay, Spooky Season is finally here!!!🎉😁

Wasn’t expecting this!
Dead Rising is one of the few zombie game franchises that actually makes it fun to kill the undead.
The story tries to take itself seriously at some points, but the wackiness of what you can do outside of cutscenes, and how wacky the characters get later, makes it more memorable.
*Game Mechanics SPOILERS for Dead Rising 2 (+Off the Record), 3, and 4*
The cutscenes don’t show off the most important parts of the games known as Combo Weapons and Vehicles. Where you put certain things together to have even more fun killing zombies.
If you guys ever continue watching Dead Rising, then I highly recommend looking up all the combo weapons videos for when you get to a particular game.

yeah definitely a case of the cutscenes and story being very seriousand straightforward, but the gameplay just gets all wacky, add to that the fact the cutscenes show frank in whatever costume he's wearing, so having a giant legobot head saying 'I've covered wars y'know.'...

The Lego bot you’re referring to is actually called a “Servbot” from Megaman Legends. They belong to Tron Bonne, more known as the girl in the mech suit in Marvel vs Capcom 3

I'm convinced that old lady is the devil, and her dog is a freakin demon. She threw grown men away with no problem so many people die because of her.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames have you see the movie call 'dawn of the dead' all zombies are not interesting eating the dog while he carrying all the pack of foods on his back to delivery a hungry gun shop guy.
Fun fact: Yes...there are zombie poodles in in Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop (Wii version) 🐩.
And some of the bosses become zombies in that game.
It's non canon though.
Oh and there's another psychopath you can save.
This was a childhood game for me. There's something I can't quite put my finger on and if someone knows please chime in but the story and world has such a dramatized mysterious ambiance that makes it one of a kind and makes the cutscences a treat plus you throw in the classic soundtrack and mall music and it's a absolute staple of the xbox 360 Era and zombie games in total

Dead Rising was basically a barometer for Capcom's fortunes in the US; people were like "wait, what *another* zombie game? No way this is gonna work" and it definitely did work. All the things you would ding a game for, the repetitiveness, the goofy ass sterotypes all worked in the game's favor because it simply didn't take itself seriously and it favored fun over atmosphere.... and the fact that with the exception of three people, everyone in the game is a mouth breathing idiot.
Not taking yourself too seriously is our jam. It’s like Max0rs review of Doom Eternal. Just lean in to what works. Not every game needs to be game of the year. It just needs to be fun. 🙂

Dead Rising is such a banger game of my childhood and I'm so looking forward to this series. The dialogues are so cheesy and corny but also super memorable, same with the characters

oh, forgot to mention: part of what makes this game so fun is the weird and stupid costumes you can make frank wear and the improbable weapons you can use. you can walk around killing zombies in your underwear, or in a crop top, or with a giant lego head, with weapons like guitars, plates, soda cans, mannequin legs, fish and buckets. you get to keep your costumes in the cutscenes, too, so all the characters are having a serious conversation while frank is dressed like a total goof.
Haha, wish the vid we were watching would’ve shown off some of those goofy outfits 😂

17:33 I think these zombies function much like the ones from Romero's Dawn of The Dead; the zombies ignore animals and specifically go after humans. The zombies were clearly not paying attention to the dog. Plus I do believe this game took a lot of inspiration from Romero's work. The sequels kind of do their own thing.

The voice actor who plays the old dude here is Bill Farmer, best known as the voice of Goofy. He did quite a few characters for this game.
My favorite Dead Rising moment remains that old woman being able to easily shake off 2 grown men and move the barricade away

Man watching this game with you both is a treat for October Halloween video game watching 😄 the game series is funny and awesome. As I remember playing my first time with dead rising for Wii as my cousin let me play it during our sleepover on Halloween day.

I really enjoyed your reactions to the first part of the first game in this amazing series, I played and finished every game in this series even the spin offs and all dlc it was one heck of a ride experiencing it first hand. I recommend trying a play through because everyone has their own experience and i would like to know your take on all the dumb ways you can kill zombies.

Regarding the helicopter part, in game you gather experience not just by fighting, but by taking pictures that meet certain criteria. Its a neat way to get buckets of experience and see how dangerous you wanna be taking pictures.

There's actually a joke with the first dead rising Involving the dog "Madonna", it's that the dog is Satan because the woman letting the zombies in is somehow strong enough to throw 2 full grown men in their prime off her

In Dead Rising almost anything that a person can move with their hands can be used as a weapon and almost anything that can be eaten can be used to restore health.
Normally I don't like the zombie genre, but Dead Rising is an exception, they are very good games. Combining dark humor, parody and tragedy in a way that works.
They are really fun to play also. The gameplay is really fun in these games.
The first game also had a unique gameplay style, where you had limited real time to do the story missions. If you got there too late you would lose story missions and you couldn't get certain endings.
The second had a different form of less demanding time limit.
That’s cool that they used real time limits for the game. Dials up the anxiety 😅

I still remember when this game was an Xbox 360 exclusive. I was hella jealous if my friends cause I had a ps3. Fun fact if you meet certain conditions you can get mega mans real mega buster by killing 53,594 zombies. It's all an achievement that's based on Willamettes population.

How did I miss this series? I've only ever played the first Dead Rising game but it's great fun to just go in and slaughter a bunch of zombies if you just want to kill some zombies XD It can be tough if you're trying to kill all the bosses and save all the survivors in a single run though.
It looks like fun gameplay from little bit we’ve seen and the comments from people. This might be one we have to go back and play since each playthrough can be different 🙂

If you're gonna go down the Dead Rising rabbit hole, I'd really recommened you stop after ya'll watch Dead Rising 3's cutscenes.
Trust me when I say Dead Rising 4 isn't worth watching.
Games 1-3 (As well as Case Zero and Case West) however are definitely worth your attention though in my personal opinion.
(and just so you both know in advance, Case Zero will take place before the main game of Dead Rising 2 and Case West takes place after the events of Dead Rising 2)

I remember playing this on the wii, and I still cant put my finger on how an old lady overpowered 2 people. To the point that both were overpowered that they were knocked down for that long.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames yes. But those do not show up until DR 2. But still, the fact you can use anything and everything in the mall as a weapon is both hilarious and intuitive enough to be one of the most fun parts of the game
