Fist of the North Star is essentially responsible for the entire "battle to the death" genre, both western and eastern. While it wasn't the first, it was definitely the best. While people tend to think the artwork is quaint now, the style at the time was something no one had seen in print or on cel. It was an absolute groundbreaker, and basically from Berserk to Jujjutsu Kaisen owe their existence to this seminal work, never mind Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat... and Jojo.

So, Kenshiro's fighting style, Hokuto Shinken, consists on mainly striking pressure points, which can cause many effects, but the most common effect is someone exploding.
The "Merciful Execution" move (which is originally called "Ujou Hagan Ken" - Humane Face-Breaking Fist) is called that because, even though the enemy dies, they feel absolute bliss instead of pain while their body contorts and explodes horribly. Also, that technique isn't originally Kenshiro's, but it's Toki's technique, which fits his more gentle, compassionate personality.
Jagi isn't really an "evil Kenshiro". Yeah, he's evil, and he knows some Hokuto Shinken but he also got the seven scars so people would think that he was Kenshiro (since people only knew that Kenshiro had seven scars on him, but many haven't seen Kenshiro personally before), in an attempt to defame the real Kenshiro. And he wears a helmet because he and Kenshiro fought before, and Kenshiro made it so Jagi's head would explode at any minute, but Jagi struck his own pressure points so he'd survive. However, his face got deformed, so he uses a helmet to hide his hideous face.
That's so interesting man, I didn't watch the Anime but as a huge Yakuza fan I played this game a lot when it came out.

Hokuto no ken was the greatest anime in the 80s. I saw the movie and the series. I never play that game but I play in arcade hall called Fighting Mania Fist of the North Star is punching bag shield arcade that you must punch the correct and you must punch the fastest as you can to win the game.

I know a guy who owns a Fighting Mania cabinet. It's surprisingly fun. There's six panels on each side that come in and you have to hit them *at the right time* while normally fighting, then periodically the game while tell you to go full ATATATATATATATATATA.

To explain the green aura move Ujou Hagan Ken(Humane Face Breaking Fist)
Originally by his brother Toki, that move strikes the pressure point Kensei which will send your entire body into a bliss of heaven eventually contorting one's body into a snake until death. It's not a pretty way to go out from that move because you'll be in so much bliss that you won't even feel it.
It is however "comparativly" a great way to go.

Fist of the North Star is basically "What if Mad Max had crazy martial arts instead of cars." And its fucking great.
I always saw it as "What if Mad Max had the son of Bruce Lee and Sylvester Stallone as a protagonist"
This is such an awesome game. I knew nothing about Fist of the North Star but bought it because I was on a Yakuza kick (this is made by the same people) and it's so much fun executing all these moves.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It's called "Hokuto ga Gotoku" in Japanese while Yakuza in Japan is called "Ryu ga Gotoku", so it's a lot less difficult to connect when you see that.
It's also fun if you know the Yakuza series because most of the important voice cast from that series are characters in this one. Kiryu's voice actor plays Kenshiro and Majima's voice actor plays Jagi (guy with the mask and shotgun).
The cool thing about the "two finger interception" It has two alternate angles/animation depending on where the arrow came from. He either catches the arrow on his left with his left hand stratched out or he uses his left hand to catch the arrow on his right hand side.
The merciful execution doesn't look merciful but the target doesn't feel pain, only joy as their bodies automatically twists on their own.

The move Kenshiro used was from his brother who practiced gentle fist version of Hokuto Shinken. His attacks while killing you doesn't register to your pain receptors. Instead it makes you feel good while dying instead.
That's why it's merciful.

i like how when kiryu's voice actor made kenshiro's voice and yet there is a kiryu outfit which is makes kenshiro turn into the kiryu with face hair everything, even it's kiryu. kiryu never kills because they're already dead.

Flame is not fist, in theory, but in Street Fighter hadouken(fireball) translates as "wave motion fist" and it have even shapes of hands inside it if you look at it carefully
The "merciful execution" was a technique he learned that was created by his brother (who looks like a gray haired Jesus), to kill enemies using a state of euphoria instead of direct pain and punishment like his other moves
The guy with the helmet was Jagi, one of Kenshiro's adoptive 'older brothers' (fellow disciples essentially) & the reason he wears the helmet is because his entire head is messed-up from challenging Kenshiro for the title of successor.
The blonde guy that Kenshiro fought is Shin. He was originally Kens best friend but betrayed him by taking his fiance and he marked Kenshiro with the seven scars on his chest

The guy on the Football helmet that has the same scars is Yagi, one of the three brothers of kenshiro. He made himself the scars to resemble kenshiro's ones so he can do bad acts and ruin his reputation, also he wears the helmet so no one can recognise him by face, only the scars cause he has a disfigured face, product of a fight where he attempted to kill kenshiro. As a martial artist he studied the same assassin art as kenshiro and his brothers, the hokuto shin ken, but was never talented enough to master it so he uses guns and all kind of dirty tricks to fight. sorry for my bad english, i hope this helped.
Fun fact: if you notice that Kenshiro voiced by Takaya Kuroda mainly known as Kiryu Kazuma from Yakuza series; Jagi is Majima Goro voiced by Hidenari Ugaki; Shin is Nishiki voiced by Kazuhiro Nakaya and last but not least Raoh also known as Ryuji Goda voiced by Masami Iwasaki.
So it's Yakuza but 100% anime.

That song is actually NOT from the game, but from the Hokuto No Ken movies. I think it's probably from the first movie, but probably also played in the third "Death of Raoh".
It is an incredible soundtrack.
Something that was announced by Fromsoft at the Game Of The Year awards last year was the upcoming Armored Core 6 with the trailer for it they showed there. Something I think you might like seeing is a compiled video someone did of all the intros to the previous games. They grow from a PS1 development to a PS3 one. The video I've seen came up as an HD first result by the search "all Armored Core intros" and is an interesting sort of preview on what was a company's star game before a sort of genre it popularized of very different nature. IDK if you seen the trailer for the new one they released, but I think it's well worth a watch. I myself get incredibly nostalgic for it. The compiled video I seen was done by Aldahe and is about 30 min long.

It would have been nice if the Video included the English VO aswell. The voice acting is really good. Especially Patrick Ziets as Rao the Keno. Man the Classic Anime movie is also still one of my favorites.

Pretty much all of the moves shown are ones kenshiro does in the original story btw. The only “non-canon” moves are rising force, twin execution, crucifying strike, bone demolisher, rising thunder kick, hordebreaker strike, and time to take out the trash.

To think, fist of the North star also takes inspiration from something else before it, I don’t know what, but I bet there’s some inspiration behind this franchise, overall, I’m saying, inspiration comes from a lot of things, that leads up to the things that you like today.
Since you’ve seen this I’d definitely recommend reacting to the attacks from Ken’s rage 1 and 2. Different style of game so they don’t have the same cinematic quality but they are still super flashy, and there are a ton more characters.
Now we only got to see a Yakuza like a dragon all essence/tag team reaction 😳😳😳😳

For anime games, there are the Shounen Jump fighting games but i think you covered some of them, there is the biggest anime crossover game series, Super Robot Wars, but videos tend to be too long sadly, great series with CRAZY animations...particularly for the OG sub series where the heroes seem less worried about destroying the Earth or an entire galaxy.

Kenshiro, will make a great guess character in, mortal Kombat. I may be over see guest characters in fight video games, but when it comes to Kenshiro, this is one exception, he fits right on in with the characters.
Not a series I’m familiar with, but aware of the legacy it holds.
One of the most well loved anime back of the past that still gets used to this day. And the insane moves that come out of it are definitely up to par with most anime stuff. Hope we see another game soon.

the guy with the football helmet is called Jagi, and he is one of Kenshiros elder brothers (Believe or not, Kenshiro is supposed to be 18 years old in Fist of the Northstar 1).
Your guess of him being an evil kenshiro isn't that far off. He actually dressed up as him and committed a lot of attrocities to put their blame directly in his younger brother. The reason for that is that kenshiro outclassed Yagi almost immediately as a practitioner of their fighting style "Hokuto Shinken"), and, when Jagi tried to kill Kenshiro during training because of this as well Kenshiro retaliated by using a technique that would also cause Jagis head to explode due to extremely raised blood preasure (which Jagi couldn't undo because he wasn't good enough in Hokuto shinken for that.)
Jagi has to wear the helmet to survive, because with out it his head would explode sooner then later.
also interesting tidbit: jagi is one of the very few villains Kenshiro actually seeks to kill because of said evil deeds he did (the series even started because of one of Jagis machinations, turning Kenshiros best friend Shun against him due to a lie), and because of that kenshiro is extremely reckless and merciless in his fight against him.

Kens chest scares were caused when his rival jabbed his fingers into his chest making I big dipper constellation.
An the auras u see ken glow with are his brothers an friends moves he incorporated into his fighting style
Red for Roa his oldest brother
Green for Toki his second oldest brother
Orange for jagi third oldest
An his friend sei the one in the mint green in the cage match
This might be hard to believe but some of these moves are actually toned down compared to their original presentation. A prime example being the Kaikotsu Ken/Bone Crushing Strike; the name is very misleading because in the original manga, the attack doesn’t *break* bones, it makes the victim’s body forcefully and violently eject every single one out.
Fist of the North Star is the pioneer of all action anime genre. These scoundrels deserve the beating after what they've done to the weaklings.

Its really too bad ..you guys could have also reacted to this anime if they have abridge but I think dbz and hellsing ultimate has. When I first watched this anime back then I only think its funny because of body exploding and body parts I never took it seriously but the more you progress to the series the character development just progress. It can make any man cry this series. I have watched many epic animes like one piece, naruto, bleach. Etc. But this one of the legendary anime for me.
