So basically it's like the Mission district in San Francisco- a historic latin area that is slowly being taken over by hipsters. If they open up a cupcake shop, it's all over for Echo Park.
mark velasco i feel you. I'm 28 years old but our generation don't give a shit. Our neighborhoods can be this fucking nice but look at all the tagging on streets. The shit looks ugly af. These fools are talented but they choose the wrong career.
I dont know if you are familiar with Downey. Its a beautiful city. One of my friends neighbor white boy said, " i hate mexicans but the dirty one's." at first i thought he was being racist but then i knew what he meant. My friend is Mexican by the way but they get along.
I'm still happy that a large portion of Latins own Echo park till the day .. that spot dates back to the 17th century when our Spanish ancestors were colonizing it, so yeah, L.A means a lot to Latins. Anyway, some Latins now rent out their apartments and business locations to new hipsters (Anglo, black, Latin, Asians, etc) & Anglo-Americans while the other Latins are still in place safe and sound. As for the gangsters, well, the economy and education has changed them for the better; and the rest are 6ft under some grave. Anyway, great mi Gente for kicking out the maras and boosting your property value! Gentrification can work for everyone 🤘
This is my childhood Echo Downtown L.A. Great memories of the 90s chilling in the park and the city.

Pretty sure there are already cupcake shops in the area or at least some pretty good bakeries!
Daveissa87. Yes. You've summed it up nicely.
Maybe they 're coming full circle. A lot of neighborhoods across US that are being gentrified were originally old ethnic European neighborhoods.
this place was full of gangsters in the early 1990s. I'm glad it changed.
It's definitely much nice and safer than it has been in past years.
Its safe because rent is getting higher so la raza can't afford so alot of Hispanics moved out but I'm glad it's safe

Echo park was dangerous back in the day it's a good thing this place is safe now

hushg2000 That last comment of yours hits the nail on the head.
Maybe if you guys wouldn't have fucked it up with gangs you could of kept more of it.
Fun Fact: "Mirror Park" in GTA 5 is based on this neighborhood.
SophisticatedCheese That's how I found this video
i'll have to check it out. Thanks!
Echo Park was kinda shady even up into the mid-late 2000's. It cleaned up, _FAST._
Echo Park has changed tremendously over the years and is a very popular neighborhood for first time home buyers.
...beautiful
This place is slowly becoming gentrified
Good!
Great video
