omgg i love the way you explored this city via bookstores!!! also the wayyy you explored soo many of these bookstores i had no idea existed and i live here 😅
I lived in Pasadena for nearly a decade. Book Alley is alright, but I recommend Battery Books and Music on Robles. That's my favorite Pasadena bookstore.
Never been to Iliad or Book Soup, but have been to the Last Bookstore in DTLA and was blown away! However I was only there once. (I have a picture of me with the book tunnel somewhere). Having lived in Pasadena for nearly a decade I've been to Vromans MANY times. Its like its own local version of Barnes and Nobles. (in other words - not used).
Skylight Books is an all time favorite. i'm also a big fan of their annex store right next door where they have mags, zines, comic books, graphic novels, and art crit!!!
I'm so glad you were able to make it to Stories Books! When I lived in LA I loved to drink a coffee there, get some work done, then grab a beer and go to comedy shows out back at night.
I live in los feliz and skylight is my local bookstore. I’m in their book club! lol. I also used to live in ojai and have visted calico. if you haven’t been to bart’s books you absolutely need to though!
I live near Book Alley but never go there... Thanks for the recommendation! You missed Vromans. It's gorgeous but not funky and unique like the others. Really enjoyed this video.
Stories in Echo Park is a gem. Have done a lot of writing in there... as have a great many friends/colleagues. They could put up framed posters of at least a half-a-dozen movies and TV shows that were written in there.
I wish you would have visited The last bookstore in Downtown and Lost books in Montrose, the first is the largest in LA and the second the most beautiful.
A little further up the road north of greater LA in the charming small town of Solvang (in the Santa Ynez Valley north of Santa Barbara), I recommend checking out the Book Loft. This is perhaps one of my favorite bookstores in SoCal. They have a small museum on Hans Christian Andersen (due to the Danish heritage in Solvang). I buy something there every time I am there.
i really really loved Alias, in Glendale. was in LA in September on a road trip and stopped by (but didn’t go to the Rose Bowl 😫) and was really impressed by the used collection! it’s not a big store but everything is cool about it. I also loved stopping in at Skylight after seeing Inherent Vice at the Los Feliz theater next door. LA is the best!
My parents have moved to LA from the uk and I’m visiting in a couple months can’t wait to check out some of these stores please if anyone else has anymore to suggest or fun things to do I’d be over the moon xx
I was caught off guard when the video ended because I thought for sure you’d be going to The Last Bookstore. Looks like you had a great time. Next time come south to San Diego.
Just finished this newly released, original collection of fairy tales, entitled 'Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles' - it was phenomenal and just perfect for the season. You guys would love it! What's everyone else reading, I want some more recommendations to add to the lovely ones here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
You look so much and interestingly like the features and personality of an extraordinary and charming actress - Rebecca Ferguson. Just as charismatic, jovial and full of a specific humor. Keep being who you are.
Omg! Albany/Troy area 👋👋👋 It’s called Lyrical Ballad. It’s right off the main strip in Saratoga Springs. Kind of diagonal to the cigar shop, if you know it. So cool & was an old bank!
I walked into a old book store that was a drug front. Me: "I'd like to buy this book, how much is it?" Bookstore Owner: "It's not for sale. GO!" As I was leaving three people walked in they looked like they were welcomed right in.
Great bookstores in L.A. Just try to find some readers though. You might as well look for a flying penguin. But novelists are everywhere. You can’t walk a block in L.A. without seeing a dozen novelists.
So weird, that little green drink you are drinking…. My husband was the owner’s Uber driver last week and we got a bunch of free bottles. I just had one an hour ago! I love these tiny connections.
Is that Star Lounge still in business after all these decades 😮😸!? Not that you or I would go in any more but did you notice if it was that would be unbelievable! It was shown among others at the beginning of the movie "Barfly" screenwritten by Bukowski, which was made in 1986 and the joint was old THEN!
You're kidding! 😮 Well in today's L.A. Skid Row has moved out to the streets in the form of homeless encampments, so it's not surprising 😒😾 In Bukowski's time there were little places to rent cheap rooms, but apparently no more.
But you missed the best bookstores! Last and Lost in downtown and Montrose. (same owner). Then Counterpoint (lots of movies filmes here, which just tops Alias for most hipster. And Iliad Books, which is hands down the best bookshop in the world.
Hahaha! Well, the biggest investment is living in NYC and making friends that live in different cities so you can stay on their couches when you visit (and vice versa). But Oleg and I primarily work freelance and I basically budget everything. It hurts me to even buy a coffee, sometimes haha
it's amazing what happens when you open yourself to new experiences in travelling and going beyond your little bubble.
I agree! I always feel wiser and, weirdly, healthier when I travel
@@AnaWallaceJohnson I am happy to hear that Ana🥰.
As a non-US watcher, I love watching you guys travel around ❤
We boppin, baby! Hopefully one day it’s all we do. Thanks for coming along :-)
Finally, a worthy bookstore! The haul will be LEGENDARY
Hehehehe there will be something of a haul coming sooooon
Didn't even go to The Iliad Bookstore in North Hollywood. You'll find cats there.
I knoooow. I missed some epic stores and some epic kitties!
omgg i love the way you explored this city via bookstores!!!
also the wayyy you explored soo many of these bookstores i had no idea existed and i live here 😅
lmaoooo story of my life. I find NYC bookstores through other people's vids and I live here
I lived in Pasadena for nearly a decade. Book Alley is alright, but I recommend Battery Books and Music on Robles. That's my favorite Pasadena bookstore.
The Battery owner has a brother, who also happens to own a dope bookstore! His is in Bisbee, Arizona though. Highly recommend.
Exploring indie bookshops on vacation or short trips is always an absolute must for me. I really enjoyed this video!
Thank you! I go by bookstores and thrift stores!
The Iliad, Book Soup, Vroman's, The Last Bookstore!
Never been to Iliad or Book Soup, but have been to the Last Bookstore in DTLA and was blown away! However I was only there once. (I have a picture of me with the book tunnel somewhere). whaaaat! I wish we went. Oleg and I were moving parking meter to parking meter, so so much was left undiscovered. But Los Feliz is my dream
I'm so glad you were able to make it to Stories Books! When I lived in LA I loved to drink a coffee there, get some work done, then grab a beer and go to comedy shows out back at night.
Oh, that sounds like a perfect time. Perfect date!
YES queen! I LOVE a bookstore vid! I cant keep buying books myself so I live vicariously through others purchases
Same! I might not have even bought anything here! Budgeting and suitcase size does wonders for decision making hehehe
I live in los feliz and skylight is my local bookstore. I’m in their book club! lol. I also used to live in ojai and have visted calico. if you haven’t been to bart’s books you absolutely need to though!

I know! It was on the map of places to go, but I never made it around to that area. Next time! There will be a follow up, I’m sure.
Ana meandering abroad, I freekin love it. Love these traveling vlogs . Yes to all these fab bookstores.
Boookstores are the best travel destinations!
Yay! Thanks for making a tour of my hometown. I'm glad you found some lovely places
THANK YOU for all the suggestions. Omg, you basically made this whole itinerary. You’re amazing. Really enjoyed LA this time around.
@AnaWallaceJohnson Awww, thanks! I'm glad you had a good visit. Come back anytime, there are so many bookstores to see!!!!
Loved the vlog! Such beautiful bookstores! 🤩
I agree! I love to be in them!

My parents have moved to LA from the uk and I’m visiting in a couple months can’t wait to check out some of these stores please if anyone else has anymore to suggest or fun things to do I’d be over the moon xx
I have a whole community tab that people left amazing recs on! I barely had a chance to get to half of them! Have fun!!
I’m from Ventura county and I love calico ❤
Loooove the rose bowl and Pasadena!
Me too! Pasadena might be one of my new favorite spots

CA baby!!! I am craving the sun so hard in nyc! It’s 26 degrees rn wooof
I love your travel vlogs! And...what great bookstores !! Ana standing outside each with the thumbs up makes it though :)
Thumbs up for books, baby!!!
I was caught off guard when the video ended because I thought for sure you’d be going to The Last Bookstore. Looks like you had a great time. Next time come south to San Diego.
I knooooow. Second to last day I realized I wouldn’t be able to go to The Last Bookstore and I whimpered a bit. Next time, it’ll make the list!
My favorite part was the same pose at every single bookstore 👍🏻
Gotta activate the tourist!
what a beautiful trip!
Trips are fun!
Best wishes from wet windy darkest Lancashire, England. Hope you are reading something good.
Yes! Soon the skies will clear!
California is indeed beautiful!!!!

Such a cute name!!! Sillies haha. I love it
I can tell that I would drop a paycheck in Stories. You're right, it looks like it totally belongs here in New York.
RIGHT!? I'd spend all my time there
Lovely. I might get that Walking in Berlin book for me.
Oleg thought about it!
The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles wasn't on your list? Wow!
It was on the list! I just didn’t have time to check it out. Next time I’m in LA, I’ll make it a priority
You look so much and interestingly like the features and personality of an extraordinary and charming actress - Rebecca Ferguson. Just as charismatic, jovial and full of a specific humor. Keep being who you are.
omg, big compliment. Love her. I think she's fabulous and so classy.
I am happy for you!! ❤
Thank you!! 💕
Unrealted to books but could you tell us about your rings? They look so nice especially the one with the pillars🏛
Love your videos😍❤️
Yes! I think I have a vlog somewhere where I talk about them
Then I'll gladly keep binging your videos anyway until I find it😂❤️
2:48 Which book store in Saratoga Springs are you referring to? I'm in the Albany/Troy area. Would love to check it out.
Omg! Albany/Troy area 👋👋👋 It’s called Lyrical Ballad. It’s right off the main strip in Saratoga Springs. Kind of diagonal to the cigar shop, if you know it. So cool & was an old bank!

Haha! I feel that way about NYC, too. They’re in the cities!
So weird, that little green drink you are drinking…. My husband was the owner’s Uber driver last week and we got a bunch of free bottles. I just had one an hour ago! I love these tiny connections.
Omg!!! No way!! I love these things so much. Everyone in the company has been really kind to me. I hope you’re liking them!
Cool. Thanks.

It was shown among others at the beginning of the movie "Barfly" screenwritten by Bukowski, which was made in 1986 and the joint was old THEN!
I think it was still in business-though it definitely had been revamped and was playing music Bukowski might’ve hated. But it’s still goin
You're kidding! 😮 Well in today's L.A. Skid Row has moved out to the streets in the form of homeless encampments, so it's not surprising 😒😾 In Bukowski's time there were little places to rent cheap rooms, but apparently no more.
man i fucking love your travel videos!!!!!
I love this comment hehehe
First time I went to The Last Bookstore is when I saw a homeless man smoke crack for the first time. Imprinting experience
Omg! You became an adult that day. Just a special DTLA moment.
Can we expect a book haul from all these places in the near future?
Next video will be a book haul (though bag weight might’ve restricted purchasing the books in LA 🤫)
And you missed The Iliad in NoHo!
Yes, the Iliad with the cats Apollo and friend
He IS stunningly gorgeous.
I agree 😏😏
I loooove LA
Me too! Really fell in love with it this time
But you missed the best bookstores! Last and Lost in downtown and Montrose. (same owner). Then Counterpoint (lots of movies filmes here, which just tops Alias for most hipster. And Iliad Books, which is hands down the best bookshop in the world.
how do you guys have time for this? What jobs do you guys have because I need to apply.
Hahaha! Well, the biggest investment is living in NYC and making friends that live in different cities so you can stay on their couches when you visit (and vice versa). But Oleg and I primarily work freelance and I basically budget everything. It hurts me to even buy a coffee, sometimes haha
Tbh being born and raised in LA, it still feels like no one really reads out here.
How TF did she not go to The Last Bookstore??
did you buy anything?
Not on this trip, but next video is a cumulative book haul
😁👍😘
