      Hi, i'm also in the same crossroads. i have a 6400 with kitlens, i want o get a zoom for use in travels, how is the difference in image quality for a hobbyist photographer? is the extra hassle of sony 70-350 worth it's image quality? i'm just thinking to sell the kit lens and just have one 18-300.

    amazing-i didn't realize that the tamron has such a huge zoom range. I have the sony 70-350mm plus the 18-135mm lenses, and this one lens is much smaller than the two lenses I have put together. my only issue is: 1. 300mm is much less a zoom maximum (despite your comments :)) and 2. have a huge honkin' lens as a default lens on my camera is simply too large and heavy. I prefer the smaller 18-135 that I use all the time, with the 70-350 as a separate lens I can attach. Still, thanks so much, the Tamron is a great option!

    Fantastic comparison. I'm really eyeing the Tamron 18-300 as an all in one travel lens. Take it and maybe my Tamron 28-75 for lower light and basically be set for a very compact travel setup. I've seen a lot of tests where the focus is pulsing and struggling - but you showed that clearly it's user error - not the lens - in those reviews. It held on quite nicely to the bands at the end when you had the proper focus settings. Thanks for this!

    I bought the Tamron 18 300 and had to return it. The image quality was "ok", well it was in the centre. Towards the edges and corners it was too soft, esp above 200mm. I expected that from a lens with so much range but it was below an acceptable level. Tamron do make some excellent lenses but the 18 300 is not one of them. I also own the Tamron 17 70 which is tack sharp.

    • @stevewest131
      @stevewest131 29 дней назад

      @@goactivemedia I used it on my a6000 and a6700 for stills, results the same. I didn't attempt an update for the lens just in case I couldn't return it after that. I doubt an update would have made any difference as the issue was optical, ie the glass itself. Tamron make great lenses but to expect all-round sharpness from a lens with so much range was probably my mistake. I have no doubt the lens fills a gap in the market for those who want a "one lens" solution, and it might be better than the 55 210 kit lens, but for those seeking good image quality for stills this isn't the lens for them. For general video use and walk around photography it would be fine.
      When I returned it we compared it with another 18 300, it was exactly the same.

    Very good combination of Tamron 18-300 and Sony A6700 and very good review, very wide, both lenses open at F.3.5 so their best use is in broad daylight, I liked your photos and videos of the concert, good sharpness.
    Most Sony lenses focus at 40 or 50 cm distance, some at 1 meter. Check the minimum focusing distance of your Sony 70-350 lens.
    Distances that I check with lenses that I have tried:
    18-135 Sony APSC focus from 40 or 50 cm.
    35 mm f.1.4 Sony GM Zeiss Distagon FF, focus from 40 or 50 cm.
    15 mm 1.4 Sony G APSC, focus from 20 to 25 cm.
    24 mm f.1.8 Sony Zeiss APSC, focus from 10 to 12 cm. very good, very sharp, nowadays it is a rare lens.
    I use the 24 mm Zeiss for product photography and some social and 18-135 for sports and tourist photography with my A6600.
    I found your video because I am interested in the Tamron 18-300, thank you very much, your video is really very useful and fun

    • @maggnet4829
      @maggnet4829 Год назад +1

      I can confirm what the video says. The lens works as well very reliably with older bodies. E.g. it works just as fine with my a5100 as it does with my A6700. It doesn't like the A7RIII, however. I had the impression there was some blur that I didn't see on the crop bodies, maybe some compatibility issues with the image stabilisation.
      The lens is wide open a little bit soft at 300 mm, but that goes away if you stop down to f8. For portrait, it's fine wide open like that, but if you shoot a bird with all those details in the feathers, you'll want to stop down. All in all, I can highly recommend this lens and would love it so much if Tamron would offer a version II with improved bokeh and a little bit more sharpness wide open.
      I can not say how liberating it is to almost never have to switch lenses while you have good lighting conditions. It just covers it all.
      PS: I'd suggest the 135 - 200 mm range for getting crisp portraits while still having good bokeh.

    • @PavelQuijanoOno
      @PavelQuijanoOno Год назад

      @@maggnet4829 Thanks for the advice, this Tamron is a somewhat dark lens, it starts at f.3.5, its best advantage is obtained by using it during the day with good natural lighting.
      Using it in broad daylight you shoot at f11, for product photos also f11, with lighting and flash, so it would work quite well.
      I have the Sony 18-135 f.3.5-5.6 lens and I used it that way, on trips if an all-terrain lens is very convenient and relying on the ISO, I have the Sony A6600 camera.
      Obviously this Tamron lens covers a great focal length but in terms of image quality it should have some deficiencies, you can't ask that much, I agree that there should be an update to this lens, it would be much more attractive to purchase.
      What I need with detail and quality I achieve with my 24 mm f.1.8 Sony Zeiss lens, very sharp, I use it a lot for product photography, social, although I really use f.1.8 on few occasions due to the shallow depth of field, I end up going down to f.2.8 generally and in f11 product photo, f5 or f5.6 product video
      Have you taken photos of the full moon with this Tamron lens? what about the result? I show you some of my photos with the Sony 18-135 lens, there is not great sharpness but something can be done instagram.com/pqophoto/

    Sharpness look really good on tammy, only thing that differs from sony, is that tammy shows fringing on contrasting edges, while sony is clear.
    For photos tamron is really good lens, but when you want steady video, especially handheld, sony is way better, with tamron I had jumping effect which is impossible to stabilize in post without strange artifacts, while sony is gentle swaying all time, much easier to stabilize clip in post.

    Wow great video. Im a complete newbie, I bought a Sony A6400 for myself, & aA6000 for my wife. Both have 16-50 kit lenses. I also bought a Sony 55-210 oss lens. But I know absolutely nothing about photography yet. Can I use the Tamaron 18-300mm, for everything ? Like a one lens package. I will be using the lens for real estate & wildlife. Is the Tamaron good for this kind of photography?

      The 18-300 is not a great lens for in door shooting as it has a high F stop of 6.3 when you zoom in so does not let in a lot of light. But for video its not to bad as for video your are shooting at a much lower shutter speed and that lets in more light. Anything outdoors in good light the Tamron is great for. I traveled around Portugal for a month shooting with it every day all outdoors daytime and it worked fantastic for the wide range of zoom it has. I was able to shoot anything I wanted and video as well. For wide stuff like real estate you can get the Sony 11mm 1.8 lens. This lets in a lot of light and is very good for that kind of photos. It is a 16.5mm equivalent focal length on a cropped camera. I had that with me on my trip as well and only used it one time as most everything we shot was outdoors and I used the Tamron. Also shoot two days of motocross with the Tamron 18-300 and it worked great on the a6700 I shot many hundreds of images and video and not one of them was out of focus on fast moving action outdoors. You can see a full video on this as well I made. ruclips.net/video/TuMOzrWXj8M/видео.html

    tamron has a long history of succefull super telephoto lenes. Not long ago tamron introduced th APS-C 18-400mm for canon and Nikon dSLR cameras bu not a-mount sony cameras. Also EF to e-mount autofocus adapters by sigma and metabones are not compatible with this amazing lens.
    About the video the correct comparison between the two lenses requires raw photos.
    Digital image correction inside the camera does not reveal many optical lens problems.

    It's not very smart to show the focal length only and no f stop number of the photos. It's not very informative.

    Instead of a lens review, you keep reiterating the examples where indeed the Tamron look excellent. Only, from the MANY examples of both, and in truer side by side comoarisons, the 70-350mm dusplayes better edge to edge sharpness, less CA, fringing, etc. And why wouldn't it? The focal range isn't as wide. Have you considered it's just possible the Sony was not in proper working condition? Anyhow, thanks for the comparison. My 70-350mm just arrived today. Coupled with my Sony 18-135mm, I have no quams traveling with both lenses. Both sharper, quieter, and faster focusing, respesctively. I will say, the Tamron is a fantastic all-purpose travel lens, and you'll enjoy it. Very nice all-purpose super telly, indeed!

      I am back from a month long trip and used the Tamron every day it works fantastic very sharp and focus is super fast even shooting motor bikes racing we shot for both photos and video. Having the wide end is also a huge help as I can shoot more with just the one lens. I did a lot of testing vs the 70-350 and it did not focus as good as the Tamron at all. Yes it did work good but not as good as the Tamron. Many times it would hunt some or a lot and the Tamron never did on the same subjects. The Sony was brand new so I would hope it was working right as it did work but shooting them side by side you can see the Tamron did better.

      @goactivemedia Cool.Im glad you're enjoying it! Just a FWIW, having the Sony 70-350mm these last couple days, taking many shots while walking our dogs on hikes, this lens paired with my a6600 has not hunted even once. Also, not let in so little light that it blurred swift moving ospreys, seagulls, ocean waves, deep woods, etc. I'm thinking your lens no doubt passed on by mfr to many reviewers MAY have not of been up to snuff by the time it got to you. However, I do get the beauty of the wide angle advantage. My experience with the Tamron super telly's has been not so great. Particularly ones with the twin tube extension. But we all have our unique experiences with these amazing and wonderful tools. Happy shooting, my friend!
