The Swedish language is so beautiful.
I have been studying it for several years and I spent some time in that country of wonderful musical talent too. :)

This didn't win Eurovision, it won Melodifestivalen (Sweden's national final). The winner of Melodifestivalen is sent to represent Sweden in Eurovision. In Eurovision he sang the lyrics in English and the song was called When Spirits Are Calling My Name. It came 7th in Eurovision.

Some years ago a Swedish TV team gathered a group of Swedish artists and went to New York, to make a TV series.
Each show in the TV series they made focused on one artist's preparation for a geat finale performance with an American paying audience, in an old theater.
Roger Pontare did this song, very much like the performances he made at and after Melodifestivalen and the ESC. He even had the native Cree Ken Roulette, (in the ESC also the Inuite woman Kasaluk och a Norwegian Sami, Johan Sara J:r , all names from Wikipedia) doing traditional dances on the stage. You should watch the ESC version, in English btw. The translation is not exact, but the essence is kept very well. Wouldn't be anything else, Roger Pontare has partly Sami heritage.😅
I don't remember the name of the show, nor when it was broadcasted, but it was popular in Sweden, and the final concert a success.
There are snippets of the show on YT, but I can't find any of the single episodes, not even of the separate songs from the concert.
THAT'S CHEAP! (I think it was the public TV Sveriges Television, but I'm not 💯 sure.)

I have actually worked with Ken, he was employed as a janitor with me. He's a real cool guy, very chill and easy going. And he loved to tell the story of how he was the dancer behind Roger haha. He's touring with his wife all summer doing native crafts and teaching people about the Cree.

To bad you didn't see a live performance, it really adds to the experience. :)

När vindarna viskar mitt namn won the Melodifestivalen, the Swedish contest chosing an entry for Eurovision. Sweden had won the previous year.
The song was translated into English (When Spirits are calling my name; the Swedish version is superior) and finished in 7th place.

I also don't know exactly what genre 🤷🏼‍♀️ - for myself I call it "tribal rock" 😉🎶

Tribal rock sounds pretty spot on. Specially if you seen Roger one stage. 🙂 Mycket mer tribal går knappast att bli. 😉

There is definately a symphonic element in there so I understodd why he went there. My thought was "symphonic folk rock", but "symphonic tribal rock" is even better I think. :)
